About two weeks ago, Caroline and I were leaving Mimi and Bop’s house. Our usual routine is to turn around in their driveway and then roll down the back window so that Caroline can yell “Ciao Ciao! Ciao Ciao! Adios Cha-Chas!”
She is so multicultural.
But on this particular day she motioned for Mimi and Bops to come closer to the car and said, “I want to spend the night at your house after the holiday of the turkey!”
And lo, Thanksgiving for me will henceforth be known as The Holiday of the Turkey.
I have so much to be thankful for this year. It’s been a year of changes and adjustments, but God has been faithful. We are healthy, we are happy, we are blessed.
And I am grateful.
Here’s praying that y’all have a blessed, happy Holiday of the Turkey surrounded by the people and the food that you love.

How precious! Thank you for sharing this with us! She is so adorable and she will be grown before you know it so I am so happy for YOU that you have these priceless Caroline treasures documented.
The BEST dressing ever is in the refrigerator waiting to be heated. Thanks again! God bless your day! Melinda from Bham
We are blessed & happy as well, & I am also grateful.
I am making your pecan pies this morning because they look so delicious. Wish me luck!

Happy Holiday of the Turkey to you as well….although ours was Holiday of the Chicken here as the turkey is a wee bit out of our price range here. Always enjoy your blog! Candice from BKK, Thailand
Happy Holiday of the Turkey!
Happy Thanksgiving and Blessings to you and your family! I love the picture of your little Indian Princess
Have a blessed Thanksgiving, Mel!
She looks like an Indian Princess!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m sitting here reading while I wait for our company to show up for dinner. I have cooked more in the last two days than I have all year! I can’t wait to see how my “brined” turkey turns out….thanks to the Pioneer Woman! Thank you for making me laugh out loud this year and blessings to your sweet family!
A few months ago, my 4 yr old asked me “Momma when’s it gonna be gig’em time?” And I realized she meant football season! So football season has a “special” name in our house as your holiday of the turkey does in your house.
Let’s just hope the Ags give us something to be thankful for tomorrow. Yeah right! Oh well, maybe we’ll have a new coach to be thankful for by this time next week.
Thanks for your cranberry sauce recipe! As a Texan who has been overseas most of her married life, I’m back in the US of A and was thrilled to have FRESH cranberries but didn’t have a clue what to do with them! They were delicious. Love the recipes you share – my daughter flagged your blog for me as I’m a blog virgin and just started this year (you NEVER forget your first blog! It was good, REALLY good….)
I digress….
Happy Holiday of the Turkey to you! We’ve enjoyed the Holiday of the Pig – much more suitable (and actually quite true) for us.
Cheers!
Looking forward to the Holiday of the Jesus, coming right around the corner. Too cute.
Happy Holiday of the Turkey to you as well!
By the way, I made your Baked Oatmeal for my housefull of company this morning. I got a small bite of my 6 year old’s. So, I will be making this again. After the company leaves. And I can actually enjoy it!!!
Blessings,
steph.
I also made your pecan pies for today! One with the chocolate chips (YUUUUUMMMMMY!) and one without, which was also yummy…. my husband said, “THIS IS THE BEST PECAN PIE I’VE EVER TASTED. REALLY!”
Thank you for making me a rock star! To my credit, I did disclose the recipe came from you instead of hogging the glory all to myself.
Tomorrow morning….baked oatmeal!
Hope you had a fabulous Holiday of the Turkey!
The Holiday of the Turkey…I’m going to use that from now on. Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you and your family had a wonderful day together.
When my (step) children were little (think post Lion King (1 1/2 or 2 era) every thing was “Hakuna Matata.”
One afternoon after visiting Grandma-ma and Grandpa-pa we rolled down the rear windows and told the kids to say “hasta luego” and the kids mixed it up with “hakuna matata” and it came out “hasta mah-ku-ku” and now EVERY time we see the grandparents it’s always, “Kids say goodbye to grandma-ma and grandpa-pa” and the kids holler, “hasta mah-ku-ku!” and they recite it back.
It’s been about 4 years now and I don’t think I’ll ever find it obnoxious. It’s one of those moments were time seems to stand still or play back like an old black and white movie.
