So my cold is still hanging on. It’s somewhere in that dreaded middle ground between feeling like bad allergies and a full blown opportunity to go to the doctor and get some prescription cough medicine. And I could bore you with all the details and complete list of all my symptoms but I know no one wants to hear it. At least that’s what P tells me.
And I’ve spent the last few days on the couch although I did venture to the store yesterday because we were out of dog food and trash bags. Clearly there is no way to survive without those items, especially if you’re the dog.
Anyway, I just don’t have one exciting thing to report. However, I do have a list of things I’d like to share.
1. This post about one of the victims of the Aurora shooting is an amazing story of God’s grace. It’s worth the read.
2. I also loved this post by Sally Lloyd-Jones about kids and the Bible. If your kids don’t own the Jesus Storybook Bible then you should fix that immediately. It’s so beautifully written.
3. Am I the only one who cannot wait until the Summer Olympics start on Friday? I’m so excited.
4. There is never a day when I don’t think Ann Voskamp’s blog is beautiful, but I especially loved her post yesterday When All Hope Feels Like A Drought. This line in particular has stuck with me, “We pray to God to be prepared by God for a purpose of God.”
5. This feels like a good day for y’all to leave any prayer requests you might have in the comments. Feel free to leave them anonymously if that’s easier.
See y’all tomorrow.

Hope you feel better Mel!
My prayer request is for my youngest daughter Kayla. She will be traveling to Moldova on Aug. 8th with a group who will be directing a restoration camp for young women who have been rescued from human trafficking. She has become very involved in this ministry after attending the Passion Conference this past January. This momma is so proud but is somewhat petrified of her traveling so far from our great state of Texas! When people ask me where the heck Moldova is, my first response is “very close to Iran!”
Prayers for safe travels and hearts restored for those precious girls will be much appreciated.
Nancy, My husband went to Muldova 2 yrs. ago to support a minister there who is activitely fighting the human traffic crisis. He was very safe the entire trip and wants to go back sometime. I will pray specifically for your daughter and her safety while she is there. God is doing wonderful things in that little country-I pray she will be encouraged while she is there. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions and I will try to answer them.
My prayers are for a precious group of people that our church has adopted. They are refugees from Kosovo living in Montenegro in a refugee camp. Two days ago, 150 families were displaced by a fire that ripped through the camp. They had so little and now that too is gone. I know the Lord can use this in a really big way, just waiting on His plan.
Thank you for sharing those links. I love reading your blog–I look forward to it every day. Yesterday morning, I remember thinking that bc you are always so silly on your blog, that you must also be spending a good bit of time reading things that make you think and even touch you deeply. I so appreciate you sharing some of those things with us. I love seeing tiny glimpses of your sweet heart in your blog every day. You are a blessing to so many women.
My sweet 18 year old niece is struggling with depression and her parents are trying desperately to get her the help she needs. She is a beautiful young lady, inside and out, with so many wonderful and unique qualities and I pray she is able to see the value she adds to our family and to this world! Prayers for her entire family would be appreciated.
Please pray for my husband’s job search. He’s been looking for several months, and things are getting very difficult.
Please pray for the safety of my 17 year old son who is driving 12 hours to TN today by himself! I am one nervous mom!! He is headed to his college to meet with the golf coach:)
Thanks, and I love your blog I read it first thing when I wake up every morning!
Please pray for my friend’s 14 yr old daughter, Brooklyn. She was in a terrible accident Monday, her hair was caught in some type of post hole auger and she has severe scalp injuries. She is in ICU on a ventilator after undergoing over 12 hours of surgery. She is stable but still very serious and will have to undergo many more reconstructive surgeries. Also please pray for her younger brother and cousin, who saw the accident, her parents, and grandparents (she was helping her grandfather).
Thanks, hope you’re feeling better soon!
My daughter has Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. She will not live independently. Please pray that God’s plan for her will keep her safe when i can no longer care for her. Please pray that pregnant women refrain from alcohol during their entire pregnancy.
(If you drink, don’t get pregnant. If you are pregnant, don’t drink. FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) is the leading cause of mental retardation. Although there is no cure, FASD is 100% preventable. FASD affects nearly 40,000 newborns each year. There is no safe time, no safe kind, and no safe amount of alcohol use during pregnancy. For further information, visit http://www.nofas.org.)
Please pray for the fire victims in Colorado, so many have either lost their homes or have been displaced due to smoke damage, etc. Also, keep praying for all the Aurora Colorado shooting victims and their families. Thank you.
Please pray for my husband and his job search.
Please pray for my father who has lung cancer. He’s 83 and just tired out. Another round of chemo today.
Please pray for my mother who has lost feeling to her feet. Unable to drive she feels like a prisoner in her own home. Depressed and just not feeling well.
Please pray as I leave for my first mission trip to Ecuador this coming Monday. Pray for those of us going for safety and health, for the missionaries as they prepare for the children coming to the summer camp they hold yearly. Pray for the kids. Pray for souls saved and Jesus glorified.
And pray that I make it through security. {I’m terrified a tube of Vaseline lip balm might land me in some dark office with a group of large men interrogating me.}
P.S.
THANK YOU!!!!
I’m deeply moved by the prayer requests already in your comments. Praying with you! God is faithful, God is good and I wait expectantly for Him to move on behalf of every single request!!!!
Praying that we receive a referral for the daughter we’re dreaming of (from Ethiopia) soon.
I am praying for all of you!
Please pray for my grandmother who is in the hospital with congestive heart failure and other medical problems. Along with this prayer I thank the good Lord above for allowing her to see one of her grand daughters whom she hasn’t seen in eight years just a day before she went into the hospital.
Thank you in advance for all of your prayers.
God bless.
Love your daily posts. You make me smile! Thank you for that.
I would love some extra prayers for my fiance to find a job. We recently moved from NY to VA due to my job, but my fiance is having some difficulty finding employment. He has sent out around 30 resumes with no bites yet. Any extra prayers are much appreciated. God is GREAT and I know it’ll happen in His time, not my time.
Oh I have been down this job search road and it’s not an easy or short road. He will land in the right spot. Just like I FINALLY did….God Bless and many prayers for him.
I just moved to a new town and I am looking for a job. Hopefully a job in our school district. Pray that I find something and be content if not.
Please pray for my 16 y-o son and my husband who is an alcoholic. My son feels so beat down (not physically) by all of the negative comments my husband has EVERY day. They are not true or even realistic, but it is such hard time right now. Please pray that God would intervene and pursue my husand relentlessly. My son is a strong young man in his faith, but this is hard.
Hey
I grew up with some alcoholics in my life and a father with a mental illness. Having one too, it caused even more pain to hear a lot of their comments. The pain does ease, but he will carry a part of it with him all his life. Help him to be able look at himself and be able to see the good. A couple of things I did at his age helped me immensely. One sounds silly, but it does work. Stare in the mirror & repeat good things about yourself, tell yourself you are worthwhile and a creation of God. Also, if he makes a list (in his head or on paper) of everything to be thankful for in his life, no matter how small, it helped me to feel better about myself when I did. And get him into counseling, of all things my parents did during that time, that helped me the most. I’m praying for him.
Pray that God will help me to move from Baltimore to Sacramento (if that is his will). I want to be closer to my sister’s family, but finding a job in CA is tough.
Mel, I hope you feel better soon.
Lifting up all of the prayer requests listed here. My hear aches especially for those having such a hard time right now. So many stories. I pray you all will receive peace and comfort from the only ONE who can give that.
We are leaving to go on vacation Saturday. Will continue to read the blog just won’t be commenting.
I do ask for prayer for the company I work for. We have had a good many changes and they have not been positive changes. This company has never had lay offs and we are experiencing them now. A lot of uncertainty and worry. Please pray for our company, our management, and employees. Thank you.
Could use some prayers for my oldest son for this next school year. We recently moved from San Antonio to NW Florida, and are afraid that the schools aren’t going to be a great fit for his special needs. The school we were at was wonderful, but the system in Florida isn’t the same.
Not to be a creeper, but I live in NW west FL. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about the area!
Do you know much about Crestview?
Have prayed for each and everyone of you and your needs. I always believe any prayer helps and can cause great things.
Please pray for me for the following:
My brother, sis in law and her sister as they struggle to deal with the loss of a best friend in the Aurora shootings. Pray that they feel God’s love and their friends and family’s love. Pray that they can have moments of peace in the following days.
My husband & I, that I find some ongoing part time work to ease our financial burden, as it is getting pretty bad. But also pray that I am able to work towards having trust in God that He will provide.
And last, make sure to thank God for any blessings in your life and pray that others receive the ability to see the blessings in theirs

What a great story! God is good!
Please pray for rain in the Midwest. I know Texas went through a drought–it is horrible. It will impact everyone in the price of goods at the grocery store, anything from cereal to all meats. I have been around farming for 35 years and have never seen conditions like this. My Dad just retired from farming, so that is a blessing, but this is the first year my brother-in-law has farmed (corn and soybeans). Hoping that he gets a harvest this year. Some farmers are already cutting down their corn and calling it a complete loss.
my prayer request is for friends from high school. their youngest daughter was thrown off an ATV driven by her middle sister, but didn’t survive after many CPR attempts. please pray they will find peace in family, and not blame God.
I could use some prayer to help me trust God and not live in fear about our finances. My company is about to start moving employees to part-time or layoff due to sharply declining revenues. This has happened before and God provided, so my rationale mind knows He will walk us through no matter what happens. But, the battlefield of the mind is a fierce battlefiled and fear, discouragement and worry are sometimes overwhelming.
My aunt just received diagnosis of a terminal illness. The family is reeling, as you can imagine. Please pray for the Nelson family.
Thank you for the opportunity to list a prayer request Melanie. Right now my husband and I are in the middle of trying to adopt 1 or 2 children from Russia. Things are not going well to say the least and the whole situation just seems impossible. We are asking God to move mountains so that our agency can find the right child(ren) for us to bring home.
Please pray for Ty Pittman. He is a 5 year old little boy from Orange Beach, AL that is VERY sick. They have a Facebook group called Fighting for Ty. He has several health issues and has been in the hospital for while.
Mel- I pray that you feel better soon!
As I read your blog, I was so moved when you offered for us to leave prayer requests.. I was thinking that my needs were mountains. Then I read the other requests and my heart was humbled. I will be taking time to pray for the many lives that are in need of an answer from God.
My husband and I just relocated to SA from Colorado. We have lost everything and are praying for a new start. My husband is attempting to start a new business here. Also, we moved here to help care for my mom who had a massive stroke two and a half years ago. She requires constant care and is dealing with severe nerve pain.
Thank you for offering this forum where we can lay down our burdens and pray for others, too. Praying that you feel MUCH better soon!
Thank you for posting about that children’s story book Bible. Our 4 year old has been expressing an interest in having a ‘big boy’ Bible and this seems like a good next step since he can’t read yet. LOVE your blog and hope you feel better soon.
Prayer request for 2 members of my family and their relationship.
First of all, thank you so much for your blog. I look forward to reading yours and Sophie’s post everyday.
After reading other’s requests, mine seems so insignificant. I really want to be a wife, and one day, a mom. I was in a relationship for several years that ended nearly a year ago , and feel like I wasted so much time. I Just pray someone to love will be placed in my life soon.
Thanks.
Prayers going up for all. God is always faithful.
Lord, I wait on You because You are my Lord and I trust that You know the very best time to fulfill Your promises to me. I depend on You at all times, but especially when I feel weak in the face of unanswered prayers and postponed dreams. Give me the faith and patience I need to rest in Your timing. You are my strength, and I ask that You would enable me to be strong and whole in my mind, body, and soul as I wait on You to move on my behalf.
Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!
Psalm 27:14
I would appreciate prayers for a project I am working on that is encountering roadblocks in every direction. The stress is starting to discourage me and my teammates. We want to bless others and serve God by finishing up this project, but some days are harder than others. Thank you for your prayers!
I would like to ask for prayers for my husband and I. After many years of infertility, we have finally begun the process of adoption. We are just waiting on our attorneys to finalize everything and start showing our letters to birth mothers. Would you pray the our baby comes to us and this his or her birth mother is blessed with good health and peace of mind in her decision? Thank you so much…
Please pray for and help spread the word about my daughter’s preschool teacher. Her nieces and nephews are orphaned in war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. A summary:

Thank you.
Don’t you love all the love between women of faith? It’s amazing, it’s bonding, and it brings us closer to Him. Praying for each on here, and you too Melanie.
My prayer request: please lift my boy, age 21 up as he doesn’t walk with the Lord, and lives accordingly. God knows his needs, and only He can soften Matt’s heart.
Love to you all.
I’d appreciate prayers as I job-hunt and apartment-hunt. I need both by the end of August, and the combination can often be overwhelming. Thanks for opening up the comments for prayer requests. And thanks for sharing the post/ quote from Ann Voskamp… I’m heading over there now to read the whole post!
Today my brother flew from MN to Dallas to undergo surgery to relieve his constant migraine headache that he has had since sustaining an injury on an ATV 19 yrs ago. Long story…but we see God at work bringing him hope, and healing. Please pray for “Jonny”, age 34, husband, father of two kids, elementary school teacher…pray that he would see God’s goodness and kindness, and pray that God would use this surgery to bring him this much needed relief. Thank you!
Maybe some good news will cheer you up: H&M is coming to Austin at the Domain. No more trips to NYC needed to shop there!
Well, I have more than one. Like many more than one. I will limit it to three (my favorite number).
1) My sister – for her vocal cord surgery in just a few short hours and her ongoing job search,
2) My boys – their safe return tomorrow and for reasons that I will probably blog about soon but can’t quite wrap my brain around tonight, and
3) The family of our recent fallen schoolmate – her sister and nieces loved her dearly.
As always, thanks so much for everything. Love ya!
Thank you for asking for prayer requests. I will be praying for the needs that are on here. I would ask for prayer for my husband and I as we really strive to trust that God will provide. We own a handyman business, and need for it to be producing more. We are hoping to start another business part-time to hopefully ease some of the financial burden we feel. We know that God is faithful and He does provide. Thank you in advance for your prayers.
I hope you feel better quickly. I do not like to be sick in the summer. I read thru the requests and will be praying.
Please pray for my son, Ethan, age 22 to see his need for a Savior. He is a delightful son and an amazing person. But he needs Jesus.
Also, my older son, Barrett, who needs to fully rely on God, and trust that God is Sovereign. For him to seek hard after God with all of his heart. He and his wife are expecting their first baby this fall. I want him to be a Godly spiritual leader in their family.
Thank you ever so much!
Barrett is a great person, too. I just mentioned that about Ethan since many people assume he is saved because he is a “good” person. Just wanted to clarify.
Please pray for my daughter’s best friend Kristin. She lost her husband suddenly and unexpectedly, at the age of 30, six months ago. They had twin daughters, who it was then discovered had the same syndrome that caused their daddy’s death. One of the twins had been more severely effected by the syndrome and after complications with her liver, she went to be with Jesus and her earthly father last Sunday at the age of 16 months. This family has had to endure so much. You can read Kristin’s blog at http://www.tkwallis.blogspot.com.
