It’s true. There’s another giveaway today.
I’m starting to feel like Crazy Larry at Furniture Mart. TODAY ONLY! EVERYTHING MUST GO! THE BOSS IS AWAY AND WE’RE GIVING AWAY EVERYTHING!
Except I’m not giving away furniture. And my name isn’t Larry. And I’m not really crazy.
I’m just a girl, standing in front of a blog audience, wanting to give them a $100 gift certificate to DeJaVu.
They recently sent me two darling items. First, this crazy chevron dress.
(Please forgive the poor self-photography. P wasn’t around and I just did the best I could. Also, my closet is a mess. I desperately need to clean it out but I’m waiting for the cool weather.)
And this no vacancy top that has this cool snakeskin collar thing going on that doesn’t show up in pictures.
But they have so many other cute things, like this navy chevron dress or this simply put top or this on the boulevard necklace.
In other words, it will not be hard to find an abundance of ways to use a $100 gift card. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post for a chance to enter. I’ll keep comments open until Monday morning and then email the winner.
Here are a few other cute things I’ve found this week:
1. long sleeve cowl neck tunic
I like stuff like this. Just kind of loose and easy to throw on but could possibly look like you put some effort into it if you added cute earrings and boots.
I’m a sucker for a coat with a faux fur collar. I can’t explain it. I just am.
3. dreamy destiny curvy plus cardigan
This is a really pretty cardigan and it’s plus size. Perfect thing to throw on over a shell.
And I just channeled the spirit of Ann Taylor by using the word “shell”.
The collegiate striped sweater I had on a few weeks ago is still sold out, but I really like this striped tee. It’s long and looks really comfortable.
5. kendra scott danielle earrings
Gulley and Jen surprised me this week with a gorgeous pair of green Kendra Scott earrings like these. I adore them and felt like you should know about Kendra Scott jewelry if you don’t already.
Please overlook the fact that they’re showing this dress with booties. I know it’s a thing, but I don’t understand it.
I was talking to my sister this week and she asked me what I thought about booties and I just told her I’m on the fence. I’m fine when they’re with jeans but it’s rare that you see someone wearing them with a dress and think it looks good. Frankly, they can look like hooves.
I guess what I’m saying is I’m not ready for the bootie. Not to be confused with the booty.
7. mossimo ultra soft cocoon cardigan
I was in Target yesterday getting razors and dog food and decided it was my duty to peruse the clothing section to see if there was anything noteworthy. And that’s how I stumbled across this sweater.
It looks a little more grandma-ish online than it does in person. In person, it’s really soft, comes in a ton of colors and is the perfect thing to throw on over sleeveless tops to transition to fall. Plus it’s long enough to cover the booty. Not to be confused with the bootie.
8. towne & reese chelsea gold bracelet
This is a great gold bracelet.
9. trench coat with detailing on sleeve
I don’t always agree with Tim Gunn, but I think he was spot on about a trench coat. It immediately elevates the look of an outfit and is the perfect weight for a lot of “winter” days here in Texas.
Y’all. These boots are so great. And they’re only available online. But I think they look a lot like Frye boots for less than half the price.

I have a love/hate relationship with cardigans. I love to wear them. In fact, I own them in two shades of yellow, mustard, purple, while, gray, and a lovely sky blue. I can’t help it. I hate that I feel compelled to own a cardigan in EVERY COLOR.

Very crazy chevron dress! That would brighten up a wardrobe that consists mainly of solid colors and lots of black.
+infinity to whoever it was that mentioned the dress is actually long enough for a full-grown woman to wear and not have to worry about accidentally flashing half of Houston (or San Antonio, or Dallas, or Baltimore, wherever you are.) I cannot tell you how many cute dresses I’ve seen that really should have been in the “tunic” area instead of the “dress” area once you got them on.

Thank goodness! Someone else agrees with me about booties (not to be confused…)! I was watching a commercial the other day, and all of these beautiful women with a lot of attitude were walking around in beautiful dresses, classy scarves, gorgeous handbags…and they looked like Fauns because of their clunky hooves. Totally agree with your opinion on booties! We see them a lot in Florida cause it’s just too hot to wear anything that covers the bottom half of your legs right now. But, really, the coolness of the bootie does not outway it’s resemblance of bovine feet.

Sheesh! So many comments, will you ever even read this? Just in case here it is. The Target sweater is really cute and I thought I’d pass on a tip that my daughter does…She buys the maternity tanks and then wears them with leggings and that same sweater you featured with leggings. The maternity tanks (and t-shirts) are nice and long, also covering your booty and the always possible (dare I say it…but I need to) cameltoe that happens at times with leggings. Looks cute with a belt underneath or over the sweater, too!

I am going to go against the majority here viz the booties. Here’s the thing: I cannot wear boots. I love them, and when I see them photographed, like in your post, I become so jealous (ok, not really… that might be too strong) of how others can really look awesome in them. I have short legs, and boots are just overwhelming. I cannot pull it off.
As for booties, I had an initial bad reaction to them as well. This trend really started with Sarah Jessica Parker and the first SATC movie. I remember seeing booties paired with the really amazing wardrobe choices and thinking, “Boy, that Patricia Field really blew it!” But, as sometimes occurs with a new idea, the bootie-worn-with-dresses/skirts became less offputting over time, and I finally tried the look last year. It totally worked for me. I would still prefer to simply wear boots, but that doesn’t work for me.
I will, however, check out the hooviness when I break out the booties this fall.

For the sake of all out begging, which I am in all actuality not above, I would love love this gift card to DejaVu. My closet is in desperate need of some rehab, I was pregnant through the Fall last year and the year before that I was out of the country teaching English to some Chilean chill’n. So, it’s been two years since I’ve needed/wanted to buy new Fall clothes. But, here’s the real clincher, I need game day attire. The South Carolina Gamecocks need me lookin’ good in the stands in order to bring home SEC East this year. There it is, groveling at it’s ugliest. Either way have a fantastic weekend!

As for the bootie thing, I think it’s kind of cute. Here’s my story: Last Christmas I saw my fashion friend wear them with a dress. She is the friend that I watch, see that she looks great in a trend, and then I shamelessly copy her. So, I wore my brown booties with brown tights and a red dress. I felt pretty. Shoes are one of the things that I can pull off, because I wear a size 6 and everything looks good in that size.
So I don’t have a lot of bootie. As for booty, well…

My (60 something y.o.) mom brought up “sha-booties” the other day and how they are ‘all the rage’ and so versatile. Huh? She got her fashion advice from Nate Berkus, apparently. I agree they look like hooves – oh! the flashbacks of Rachel from Bachelor pad – but I love me some cardigans and trench coats!

I am in total agreement with your booties comment. Booties really don’t flatter any body type. It is just a trick to make us all invest in shoes that look ridiculous. I had some half boots in 1993 and they look exactly like what is out there now. On a happier note, your blog is a true gem. So glad I found it.
