Things you might want to know and a giveaway!

My day got off to the best start ever yesterday. My friend Laura texted me a picture of a freshly baked chocolate croissant from Trader Joe’s around 7:00 a.m. And I jokingly texted her back “What time are you bringing one over for us?”

About ten minutes later there was a knock on the door and Laura’s daughter stood there holding a bag with two warm chocolate croissants in it.

I don’t really know that life gets much better than that. And y’all weren’t lying about them because I took one bite and was transported to a bakery in France.

Which is really weird when you factor in that I’ve never actually been to a bakery in France. But I have been to La Madeleine several times and that’s like France and this was better than that.

Okay, I just have a few quick things today, but the last one is a giveaway so make sure you read until the bitter end.

1. My book

Um. It’s less than a month until Sparkly Green Earrings is released. And I alternate between being excited and wanting to throw up. It’s kind of like pregnancy but without a good excuse to eat a dozen donuts in one sitting and wear pants with an elastic waistband.

So here a few book related things (Is this becoming an outline? It feels very fancy.)

A. I have a Facebook page for the blog and book stuff now. Please let’s not call it a fan page because belch. (I meant to type “blech”, but I’m going to leave it as “belch” because it seems equally appropriate.)

Anyway, I’m going to try to post all book related news there, so you can like my Facebook page if you want. It’s Melanie Shankle-The Big Mama Blog.

My publisher is also working on setting up a few book signings for anyone who wants to meet me and buy a copy of the book at one of the stores I’ll be visiting. Let me clarify that this is not quite a nationwide tour. As in, I’ll be in San Antonio and Houston. I’ll be driving to them in my 2006 Volvo station wagon.

As of now, I’m doing a signing at Barnes & Noble at San Pedro in San Antonio on Tuesday, February 12th at 7 p.m.

And one at Books-A-Million at Katy Mills in Houston on Saturday, February 16th at 1 p.m.

The good news is if you show up we can probably hang out and visit since it will just be you and my dad.

(You’ll be able to know it’s me because I’ll be the one sitting at a table reading Beth Moore’s book So Long, Insecurity.)

2. DotMom Conference

I drew the winner of the two tickets to DotMom in Frisco on February 22-23. So if you haven’t received an email from me that means you didn’t win.

But I really wish you’d still attend. It’s going to be amazing and I guarantee you won’t be sorry. Tickets are still available, but going fast. You can find out more here.

3. Lauren Chandler – The Narrow Place

My friend Lauren Chandler, who is married to Matt Chandler from The Village Church in Dallas, has recorded the most beautiful album called The Narrow Place.

I downloaded it about a month ago and have listened to it over and over again, especially while cooking dinner at the end of a long day because it takes me to a happy place. Even though it’s a Narrow Place.

(Get it? I made a little joke.)

Anyway, you can download it for only $5.99 on iTunes, but I also have three copies to give away today. All you have to do for a chance to enter is leave a comment on this post. I’ll leave it open until Sunday and then choose three winners.

Even though you’re all winners to me.

By the way, I think my finger is a little bit better. Just in case you were wondering.

See y’all tomorrow.

  1. Melissa H says

I am really happy for you and want to congratulate you on your book.
I plan to buy a copy because you are a gifted writer and also because I want to thank you for brightening so many days with your humor and of course the fashion advice!

  2. Heather says

Can’t wait to read your book! I have been praying for Matt Chandler since I heard about his cancer diagnosis a few years ago. God has been so merciful to him!! What a beautiful family!! I have listened to one of her songs and she’s amazing. Pretty soon they’ll be introducing him as Lauren Chandler’s husband!!

  3. Bethany says

Looking forward to your book!!! I would totally be a groupie who would be at a book signing…. Except I am in Georgia. So, best wishes for successful signings!!

  4. Jody says

I cannot wait to read your book. Your writing is so honest, so refreshing – you make me feel like the goofy things I do are normal and okay. And that’s a good thing! :)

  5. Jennifer Weston says

Super excited for your book! Wish I could make the book signing, but living in PA…that would be quite a drive. And thanks for the opportunity for the giveaway.

  6. Ioana says

    so excited about your book! i am sure the books signings are going to be awesome and full house. that’s only to be expected when a great writer is there. {i mean you, just to be clear :) }

  7. jenny f says

Looking forward to reading your new book.. I have never been to Katy Mills, but I know that it is not too far from where I live.. Hopefully I will be able to make it there to say hi. Congratulations on this grand achievment!

  8. Kindra says

I would LOVE to win the album!! I am needing to be transported to a happy place these days after work….completely stressed and hate bringing it home to the fam! Enjoy reading your blog daily!!

  9. Stephanie says

Chocolate croissant?… oh my! I’ve heard rumors that OKC might get a Trader Joe’s in the next year or so.

Looking forward to reading the book!

  10. Daphne Petrey says

My sister-in-love pre-ordered me a copy of your book for Christmas! That made me three types of happy! And I would love some new music for our iPod. I love reading your blog every day – you make real life just seem “normal”. (except that no one would ever show up with warm croissants at my front door since the closest Trader Joes is almost two hours away)

  11. Amy says

I so wish you had a signing in Dallas! I’d love to hang out with you and your dad!
So proud of you Melanie! As proud as anyone can be of their Internet best friend they have never met! *hugs*

  12. courtney sloane says

I’m really excited about your book! I’d love to attend a book signing, but unfortunately, I’m not gonna be able to swing a trip to Houston from my abode in western North Carolina.

  13. Wendy says

Thanks for the reminder, I need to find my gift card so I can pre-order the book. So excited. And new music sounds fun!

  14. Kelly O says

I cannot wait to read your book – and I might just have to get myself over to Katy Mills to get it signed too. That is not at all un-doable.

  15. Laura B says

I made the blog!!! My life is complete. So did you share one or just go ahead and eat both? I preordered my book (actually I think I ordered 2 or 3 to pass out with chocolate croissants) and I can’t wait to read it.

    Have a wonderful day!

  16. says

Read this while eating my breakfast of … grr…. shredded wheat! Those chocolate croissants sound much yummier! And to top it off, there is no Trader Joe’s within a hundred, or 500 miles of here. But you brightened my day at the end of the post with the great news about your finger!!! Good luck with your book. I’ll look forward to reading it!

  17. Terry says

I wish you wouldn’t write about chocolate croissants before I’ve had breakfast! Any resolve I had to eat healthy today just went out the window.

I was worried about your finger and I’m thankful it is getting better. :-)

  18. Marianne Tabor says

Melanie, please come to the DFW area for a book signing! I would so get up early and wait in line to visit with you AND your Dad. You’ve been my early morning friend for several years now.

  19. Megan says

Please come to georgia for a book signing!!! And pick me for the free music. I love free music!!!

  20. Sallie Baker says

I was Lauren’s Kindergarten choir teacher at church in Longview, TX….
so I am very proud of her beginnings! Beautiful girl . . . inside and out!
Come to Ft. Worth or Dallas for a book signing….???

  21. Sue S says

Please do come to Georgia for a book signing!
I am so excited about your book. I am so, so proud of you! I cannot WAIT to read it! I have been reading your blog several years. You were painting your back house – whenever that was – when I first started reading. I cannot even tell you how much joy you have brought me. So much laughter. You and your blog have truly been a blessing to me.
I would love to win Lauren Chandler’s music.

  22. Ashley Corbett says

HI, I’ve never heard Lauren Chandler so I’m excited to be entered. I was linked to this page from Ann’s “A Holy Experience” :) Thanks for entering me!!

  23. Vicki B says

Chocolate croissant???? Dang! I’ve never seen a chocolate croissant at my Trader Joe’s. Are they frozen and she baked them at home? Now I have to go to Trader Joe’s today. Must investigate ASAP. Congrat’s on the book. And that is just silly the publisher isn’t sending you out on a tour, but then again with the flu hysteria and all, maybe it’s just as well.

    • Laura B says

      Vicki B-
In the frozen section with other breakfast stuff. You let them rise overnight and just bake and serve. REALLY good and I think they are only like $3.50 for 4. But from what I hear, products vary from store to store. Good luck!

  24. Misty says

Come to Austin for a book signing! We are getting a TJ in 2014, so you got me all excited now! Sorry about all the exclamation marks! :)

BTW, your book trailer made my husband and I cry. We have an only child, too, and she is the light of our lives! Totally relate.

  25. says

    Hi, Melanie!
Listen, I’m putting the Houston signing date on my calendar, yay! It’s not that far and who would EVER give up a chance to go to Katy Mills Mall? Oh, and yes, I’d love to win the album!!!

  26. says

I preorder my book just this week and then gave it a shout out on my blog yesterday! Absolutely can’t wait to read it. Wish I lived in TX so I could get an “autographed copy” LOL!

  27. says

Hello! I’m so excited for the release of your book. It’s been pre-ordered and will arrive the day it comes out! If I lived in TX I would totally come to one of your signings and try to force you to become friends with me, but that might make you a little uncomfortable, so it’s probably for the best.
All this Trader Joe’s talk means I’ll be making a trip there this weekend. I’m preparing by writing a list of necessary items (such as chocolate croissants and cookie butter) now.

  28. says

Melanie, I’m so excited for you. Can’t wait to read your book. If you were going to be up in the Dallas area I would try to show for your book signing…I imagine it would be a lot of fun.

  29. Vickie says

I would love to win a CD. I need a happy place right now.

I love your blog so I’m looking forward to reading your book.

  30. jaime says

Can’t wait to read your book! Come to San Angelo {home to Julio’s Chips & Salsa!} for a book signing.

  31. Stephanie says

I’m excited for you and your new book coming out. Wish I was closer and could actually make the book tour =) But I;m guessing Idaho probably won’t be one of the stops.

  32. Kimberly M. says

First off, I am pretty sure you should add a trip to College Station for your “book tour”, because I don’t think it would be fair to leave your old stomping grounds out. Also, because I would love to see you in person so that it seems real instead of my family thinking I have taken up with imaginary friends. :-)

I’d love to win the CD…I can use all the happy place music I can get!

  33. Margaret says

I always enjoy your writing except scorpions maybe. I look forward to your book and I’m with the others who want you to come to Georgia. Gainesville would be a great place.

  34. Sarah says

I’ve been wanting to listen to this album since I heard of it, and this would be the perfect chance. Thanks!

  35. Kristen says

I would love to win a CD! And I can’t wait to read your book. Any chance you might come to TN for a book signing????

And chocolate croissants?? What a great friend!

  36. Louise in NE OK says

Would love the music and love to read your blog each and every week day morning! Looking forward to your book!

  37. Whitney says

We would love to have you for a signing in Indiana! I pre-ordered my book on my Kindle. I’ve never pre-ordered anything on it before and it makes me super excited to think that one day it will just appear there, ready for me to read! I’m not a mom (well, I’m a dog mom), but I’m definitely looking forward to reading your book. Between you and Sophie, you girls have given me a lot of entertainment (laughs AND tears).

  38. Miss B says

Just me and your dad! Lol, I’m sure you will be surprised how many people show up. You are an internet sensation afterall!

  39. BethA says

Oh I’m so excited!!! I will definitely be at your book signing in Katy, even though I’m on the other side of town. Can’t wait to meet you, although I don’t think you’re right about no one being there. There are WAAAAYYYY too many of us who wait expectantly for your posts and now your book! It’s going to be great! Don’t be nervous. I see “best-selling author Melanie Shankle” in your future.

  40. Gabrielle says

The lovely cover on that music makes me want to listen to it right now! (And as for the chocolate croissant – YUM!) Thanks for being a bright spot in my days. : )

  41. Johanna says

I am really looking forward to your book! I really hope you will reconsider your statement – “I plan to post all book related news on my Facebook page.”

I’m not on Facebook (I know!). Is there any way you’d post the news, or at least some of it, here, too? Or even, you could have another page on your blog site, kind of like you do for the book now, except it could be book news?

Something, somehow, I hope you will talk about the book experience here, too, please! :)

  42. Amanda Yates says

I wish you would come to Birmingham for a book signing!! I can’t wait to read your book!

  43. says

I stumbled upong your blog via the “Pioneer Woman” blog and I have to say I just love it! I have been reading every day! I am going to have to get your book…can’t wait!

  44. says

I’m hoping to win the Narrow Place! But I’m also really excited about your book and buying it as soon as it comes out. Any way I can convince you to come do a book signing up in the DFW area? I could probably gather at least 7 people to go with me, which, according to what you’re expecting, would be a huge crowd! 😉

  45. Ailene says

Found this blog through Ann Voskamp’s- intrigued by the title of your new book. I’ll have to read it! :)

  46. Andrea in Aggieland says

i can’t wait to read your book! BTW, I think you should do a signing in Aggieland. You can always do it during baseball season since you’ll probably be here at some point during the season anyway. Just a thought…

  47. Carla says

Why don’t you have a book signing in NEBRASKA? Then, you could wear sweaters and coats and still never be warm! And be miles and miles from Trader Joes and Target… Life on a cattle ranch. Can’t wait for your book and would love to win free music.

  48. says

I just realized this morning that your book was available for pre-order, so I promptly went and pre-ordered it. Come to KS for a book signing!

The cd looks like a great thing to win, so I’d be delighted if you picked me. 😉

Pretty sure there will be more people than just your dad at the book signings. And I could go for a chocolate croissant about now.

  49. Sharon says

    Outline …
    A. I’m kind of new here and didn’t know you were writing a book, but …
    B. I will definitely buy it!
    C. I am severely bummed that I will in Nashville visiting Son 1 on the date of your Houston signing. Somehow, I doubt you will be alone.
    D. I’d love to win the album!

  50. says

Congratulations on the book coming out! You should check out Book People in Austin for a signing. Austin is closer than Houston :) and Book People is incredibly supportive of authors.

Glad to know the finger is getting better! We old-fashioned doctors like to check up on our patients. :)

  51. Ann T says

I would come to your book signing to meet you and your dad if I lived in Katy. Love me some Lauren Chandler!

  52. Julie D. says

Found out about you from Holy Experience and read the story about the sparkly green earrings. Looking forward to reading your new book!

  53. Lisa says

Laughed so hard at the “(You’ll be able to know it’s me because I’ll be the one sitting at a table reading Beth Moore’s book So Long, Insecurity.)” part! You are hilarious!

  54. Tonya says

I wish you’d do a signing in Dallas! I’d drive over to see you. But juggling my littles makes SA and Houston a little too far for me. :( blech

  55. Kathryn says

Please, please do a book signing in SA on a Saturday!!!! I would LOVE to meet you and get a signed copy but can’t drive up unless it’s on a weekend. :)

  56. Amanda Weems says

Can’t wait to read your book! Just reading about your every day life on the blog blesses mine in more ways than you’ll ever know. It would be awesome if you could come sign books in Abilene, TX. We’re just four hours from San Antonio and you’ve got lots of fans up this way!

  57. jenner lee says

It is supposed to snow here in NC today. I would love to be snuggled up on the couch reading Sparkly Green Earrings, while eating a chocolate croissant and listening to Lauren Chandler’s The Narrow Place! Glad your finger is better : )

  58. Christa says

Sounds like a fun February! I was gardening and got something in my pinky and it was a little bump and it would get red, itch and hurt and then kind of go away and then get red and itch again, for two years. I finally asked a doctor and then got an x-ray and about a month later it went away! Weird. She said that sometimes things get in and the body does not work it out like a splinter. Fascinating, right;) To have had it out may have been a bigger problem. I hope your finger continues to improve!

  59. Mary says

Oh, how I wish you would come to South Carolina for a book signing! I’d love to meet you and your dad :)

  60. Erin Seaman says

So long, Insecurity! Ha!! You’re secure enough to write a book which is more than most of us can say. Wish you were coming to Dallas; I could introduce you to the best TexMex outside SA. Grilled avocado anyone? Mmmmmm……

  61. Jenny R says

Glad your finger is feeling better! I’m pretty sure it was the chocolate croissant that made it better. You should probably eat more just to be sure it heals fully.

  62. Melissa D says

Your Beth Moore “So Long, Insecurity” joke made me laugh out loud. :) And now my four year old is asking me (over and over), “What’s funny, Mom?”

  63. Michelle Pharis says

Can’t wait to read your book. Thanks for the chance to win. You have one of my favorite blogs. Love your humor and realism.

  64. Carolyn B says

Love your blog — always makes me laugh. Well, except when I’m not supposed to. I’m sure the book will be a big hit. My nephew’s book was just released, Super Center Savior, (a shameless plug) and he said the same thing about his book signing. But, people did show up. You’ll be surprised. Good luck.

  65. Kim says

Would love the music! I am very excited about your book. If I weren’t 12 hours away I’d come to a signing!

  66. Sharla says

So excited about your book! I look forward to reading and laughing! Thank you for keeping it real, Melanie. You truly are a breath of fresh air.

  67. Heidi Roseman says

Hi there – ummmm well I just met you yesterday thanks to a little mention of you by the one-and-only Ann Voskamp 😉 I have NEVER written on somebody’s blog like this – so you should feel honored. And if we could meet – we would be friends – I’m just sure of it :) You crack me up!!! Anyway – I have no link….yet :) I’m just a facebooker, contemplating being a blogger, so you can be my friend at Heidi Murray Roseman. That would be cool :) Now I shall press “post comment” and see if this actually works…..

  68. Amy says

I just learned about Sparkly Green Earrings from Ann Voskamp’s post yesterday and CANNOT wait to purchase and read a copy-it sounds so wonderful and hilarious-what a blessing!

And the Narrow Place CD sounds perfect for while I am cooking too :)

Thanks so much for the fun giveaway!

  69. Nikki H says

I can’t wait to move to Ft. Worth, so I can experience Trader Joe’s. Congratulations on your book release!

  70. Nicole says

Hey! Just caught wind of your blog from Miss Ann Voskamp’s blog, very interested in looking around when I get a chance – but read the first post, and found it humorous. This could be the beginning of a beautiful blog-ship. ANyway, just wanted to throw my hat in for the drawing! Looking forward to discovering more!

  71. Jen says

Would love this CD!! And I cannot wait to read your book and if I didn’t live in Alabama I would SO be at your book signing!

  72. Debra says

I wish I lived in Texas, because you can bet I’d be at one of your book signings!! I’ve pre-ordered my copy and can’t wait to read it!!

Your droll wit makes me laugh out loud every day!! Thanks for the fun!!

  73. Karen L. says

Congrats on your book, I can’t wait to get one! Please come to Tampa, I would love for you to sign mine. Don’t you need a little vacation anyway! (Wink)!!!

  74. Anita says

Melanie, Congratulations on your book. I live in Texas and will do my best to make your Houston book signing. I love reading your blog, I save it until its the last blog I read each day because I enjoy saving the best for last.

  75. Marilyn Long says

I just discovered you yesterday, and have been reading past blogs–it is comforting to find a soulmate with the same (warped) sense of humor as I. :) I am looking forward ti many more smiles along the way. It is so wonderful to belong to a family of sisters in Christ.

  76. sarah says

i’m pretty sure you’ve been to nashville enough times to have a book signing here, right? i can’t wait to read it!

  77. Alisha says

I pre-ordered the book! And I’m a tad tempted to drive the five hour round trip from Temple to San Antonio to have you sign it…

  78. Missy says

I still have dreams about those croissants from Trader Joes. We got them while on a girls trip to California last spring. My life will never be the same. When are you coming to Dallas?

  79. Amy says

I was introduced to your blog by a dear friend. We might be moving to San Antonio in the summer and she said I just had to get acquainted with your blog. So glad as I am reading it everyday. Excited to see the book released. Can’t wait to read it.

  80. says

I laughed out loud at the “So Long Insecurity” comment. I have your book on pre-order and if I were anywhere Texas, which I am not, I would come visit and get it signed. I know there are ladies like me in Texas and i can’t wait for the post about how great the signings were.

  81. Mandy Monson says

Oh PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could you come to Alabama for a book signing?!?! I live in Montgomery, but could certainly drive to anywhere in AL or eastern MS or western GA! I’ve read for your blog for a few years now and am dying to get my hands on your book….and a copy of The Narrow Place. Thanks for the great recommendation!!

  82. Meredith W in TX says

I can’t wait to read your book, I pre-ordered it on Amazon so it will arrive the day it’s released. So excited you’re coming to Katy. :-) I”ll keep you company so you don’t have to read So Long Insecurity!

  83. Beth says

Praying for you as you near your book’s release. I can feel the anticipation with you. Can’t wait to read it!

  84. Kelly says

  87. Kim says

I’d love a copy! I follow you from South Carolina. I am a Texan living in SC. I follow your blog from an Aggie friend. I am a Baylor Bear, but we can still be friends. Since we both have a Heisman winner, you know?

  88. Meg says

I just wanted to say I’m so excited for your book, and if I lived close by I would totally go to your book signing (kind of a far drive from Indiana!)! I can’t wait to hear about them on your blog at least!!

  89. Desiree says

Completely relating to the doughnut and stretchy pant thing since I’m 28 weeks pregnant tomorrow. :)

  90. Meredith says

It’s like you are Teresa Guidice but without the big hair, heavy eye make up and family drama.
Can’t wait to read the book and hopefully catch you at dotMom-Chattanooga in the fall!

  91. Amanda D. says

I’ve pre-ordered your book and can’t wait to get it! I would also love to win that album, sounds lovely.

  92. says

I ordered your book the other day & can’t wait for it to arrive :) Is it weird to tell you I’m so proud of you? Well, I am!

p.s. I’m so, so glad to hear the good news about your finger :)

  93. Carol says

Looking forward to reading your book. Wish I could make it to your book signings, but the great state of Texas is a little out of the way for me. I am wondering, though, will you be wearing sparkly green earrings to said signings??? : )

  94. AliciaC says

I got all excited thinking you were in NM..even tho you said you weren’t doing a big tour. You said San Pedro in San Antonio and we have two streets here in Albuquerque named that, that intersect. So I was confused and excited but now I’m calm and realize I’m just a dork.

  95. Karen H. says

A couple of things…..wish we had a Trader Joe’s here in Colorado so that I could get my hands on one of those chocolate croissants and also wish your little volvo could travel here for a book signing:) Can’t wait to read the book!

  96. says

I would love to win a copy of the new music. I used to live in Katy and I would totally come to meet you at Katy Mills (which is an awesome mall by the way) if I still lived there. Been reading for years. Too bad I live on a different continent now!

  97. Cynthia says

    1. Congratulations on your book!

    2. It would be nice to win a copy of the music.

    3. It would be fun to meet you and your dad.

    4. Have you tried soaking your finger in hydrogen peroxide? It seems to help when I have an “oachie” on my finger.

    5. It’s snowing in North Alabama.

  98. Denise says

Congrats on your book! I would definitely go to a signing if I lived close enough to drive there. I’m wanting some new music, so would live to win this. May have to get it whether I win or not!

  99. says

Ooh! Would love to win–I need some new music in my life. So beyond sick of my 17 year-old’s obsession with Muse.

  100. Angelica says

I am a fellow San Antonian and love your blog! I added your Feb. 12th signing to my calendar and cant wait to get your book :)

p.s- I too wind down to cooking and music at the end of a long day… I just add a few glasses of wine as well 😉

  101. Alyson says

Glad your finger is feeling better.
Wish I lived in Texas so I could go to your book signing. :( I’m sure you will have a great turnout. I am so ready to get my copy!!!!!!
OH and I would love to win!!! Thank you!

  102. says

Can’t wait to get your book! (I pre-ordered it as soon as I read about it.) Also, thanks for sharing about Lauren’s music. Her voice is just heavenly, isn’t it?!

  103. Hannah says

I sure would like to have “The Narrow Place,” as nothing on my body is narrow after holiday eating. I need to pipe something “narrow” into my ears! And, because I am a college child of the 90’s, I was temporarily in love with Chandler on “Friends” . . . not that such a fact would have any bearing on this giveaway.

  104. says

Excited for you and about your book. Gonna pre-order it tomorrow (payday) for myself and for my college roommate who’s currently receiving chemo treatment. I want to give it to her because I know it will make her feel better!!

I’m really interested in the Lauren Chandler’s album and would love to have it, but goodness gracious have you figured it out itunes since their latest update? I knew what I was doing before the update, but now they’ve gone and changed everything and I’m completely lost now. When I can no longer figure out the newest technology update, that means I’m old, right? God help me.

Looking forward to the book! I’m putting the Katy Mills book signing on my calendar and hope I can make it. We live in the Clear Lake area, so that’ll mean leaving my hubby with the kids all afternoon. And since I’m leaving him with the kids to go to the DotMom event just a few days later, that might be asking a bit much. He’s pretty nice about these things, but I hate to take advantage. I’ve read your blog for several years and would love to meet you!

Your book is on my gotta read list! I am a homeschooling mom of six and three year old girls, so the fact that I have a book that is about something other than an “American Girl” or a llama, says a lot.

  107. says

Yay, yay, yay for a book signing in Katy!!!!!!! (see, lots of exclamation points!). :) Can’t wait to meet you & read your book. Congrats!!!

#1 So glad your finger is better.
#2 Even though I don’t REAL-EE (I, too, watch The Bachelor) know you, I am so proud of you for writing and publishing a book. I will be purchasing a copy. There were times last year that I prayed for you as you mentioned you were writing. I just know there will be God-loved nuggets that will bless me (and others) in that book.
#3 We’ve purchased live crickets for reptalians the kids have wanted. Yuck!

    God bless you!

Please come to Dallas for a signing, you can still drive there and see your friend (I think her name is Jen) who has cancer.

Well, if I was anywhere near Houston or San Antonio, I would be first in line and begging everyone to GET IN LINE. I have read your blog from the beginning (and met you at the last SSMT :). I am so excited for you and know God will use your book in so many ways. Can’t wait to read it. I pre-ordered my copy!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to read your book. I review books for Thomas Nelson, Waterbrook/Multnomah, and recently signed up with Tyndale House and am waiting on my first book from them. Do you know if a review copy of your book be available? And if not, I would love to write an honest review for you if you could hook me up with a free copy!

Get your publisher to fly you to Hawaii to sign books! You can stay with me & you can be our Muster Speaker!! Did I tell you I run the Oahu A&M Club? Yeah, I do. It’d be awesome to have a published Aggie as our Muster Speaker. :) I’m kidding but not really.

I have been thinking about Trader Joe’s since I read your post a few days ago. It’s been ages since I have been. I made a list from all the comments here-so many new things I have not tried! Cannot wait to get there!

Would love to have some new music. Would also love to be able to come to your book signing. I’m hoping you’ll venture outside Texas. Maybe at least Birmingham? Not there right now, but may be taking a job there soon and I know you and Boomama always have a good time.

My family are members at The Village Curch in Flower Mound and have the honor of listening to Matt speak and Lauren sing often. While I podcast all the sermons to listen over and over while I run, I don’t have Lauren’s album yet. Thanks for the reminder!

  126. Denice says

I am so excited about your book! I have mine preordered and am counting the days. I’m having surgery next week and will be home for awhile and I was so happy when I realized your book would arrive while I was off work. Yay for me!

I’d love to hear the CD! And I’d love to read your book. I’m sure you won’t be sitting there alone. :o)

Congrats on the book! How awesome was it that Ann Voskamp talked about it in one of her amazing posts too?! Yay!

  129. Ginger says

I laughed out loud at you reading Bethie’s SLI at your book signing! What’s that thing actors say about “I don’t really care if people like the movie…it’s the work that I find so satisfying…”?

And now you’re laughing out loud!

  130. Elizabeth says

You absolutely rock. I read some excerpts of your book using the Amazon look inside feature and loved it. 😀

  131. says

I cannot wait to read your book! I wish I could come to a book signing, but I’m in GA, ha! Cracking up about you reading “So long insecurity”, ha!

You are hilarious. I’m not sure what the evening of Feb 12th holds at the moment, but I would love to come visit with you and your dad. :-) Sounds like a fun evening! I’m excited for you. May the Lord continue to do great things for you and through you!

  133. says

I pre-ordered my copy on I ordered Sophie’s book too. I am SO SO SO excited for you. I checked my calendar and unfortunately, I can’t make it to Houston on Feb 16th because of a soccer game at 10:30am. (In Durley Stadium. Flashbacks?) Wish I could come and show you my support at the book signing. Know that I will be thinking of you and smiling. Well, when I get done yelling at a soccer game.
Oh, and your other Mom is beaming with pride, just so you know.
