I love Erin's comment. I got a fortune cookie not too long ago that had an actual fortune in it (Not "You are very sweet."), and I have it taped on my computer monitor.

It says, "It's time to get moving. Your spirits will lift accordingly." I'm trying to apply it to all aspects of my life, including fashion. I didn't think I knew what I was doing, and I needed to lose some pounds, so I stated in the Frump Zone. After the fortune, I bought some new items, received a ton of compliments, and now I am hooked on fashion again. Back to the days of my youth. My new-found fashion confidence and my fortune cookie have also prompted me to start exercising, which means that I have lost some weight and get to buy new clothes.

I used to hate to spend the money on myself. I used to stuff a cookie in my mouth and think "I deserve this." Now I purchase clothes that are a size smaller, and I think, "Now I really deserve this!"

Okay, and one more thing--am I the only one who thinks khakis are hard to do right? I think that for the most part, they are the most frumpy piece of clothing known to man, or woman as the case may be. Of course, this may be because I was forced to wear them for years as part of my school uniform, but still, I think they scream "frumpy" and I don't care that GAP tries to say otherwise.

Great post and great advice. I love the idea of having a couple pairs of basic bottoms and many interchangeable tops. It saves time, money, and closet space. Plus, it makes getting dressed quick and easy.

Looking forward to the Fiesta. I minored in Spanish, and I think that your Spanish is better than mine.

I agree with you on the mirrors at Gap. I can't tell you how many things I have returned because they didn't fit or look good at home.

I believe there should be some sort of legislation on mirrors. Either all mirrors in the world should be skinny mirrors or they should all be normal. Maybe I'll start a petition...

I have experienced the mirrors at the GAP and Banana Republic. I also agree with Moriah about Ann Taylor LOFT. I bought a pair of black capris for my honeymoon last May and they looked fabulous in the dressing room. When I put them on to show my darling new husband how fabulous his new wife was....the effect was so not the same. Talk about a kick in the teeth.

I, too, am bigger. I'm 5'6" and 185. I used the same excuses for not buying, until I literally started running out of clothes to wear in public because they started tearing. I actually wore them out. The final nail in the coffin was when I sat down at work, and my pants ripped all the way up the behind. Thank God for long sweaters. That was my wakeup call - 'cause those pants were NOT too small. I sale hopped, got stuff in my current size. I felt so much better (and being the right size IS comfortable, if you go with the right fabrics) that I actually started wearing makeup and accessories again. I know I look "put together" regardless of the size, and that gives me confidence, and I'm not shying away into my frumpy attitude anymore. My shoulders were actually starting to slump. My bottom line? By the clothes that fit you NOW so you can feel good NOW. And then... If you DO lose weight... You get to buy more! Sales are our friends.
