The one that got away

May 4, 2008

This is Caroline’s account of the fishing trip she took with her daddy yesterday.

Fishing Story from Big Mama on Vimeo.

She comes by the use of hand gestures honestly due to her Italian ancestry.

Which also explains her need to overshare.

Surely that shirt will soon be the main topic of the next Fashion Friday???

2 Jenny May 4, 2008 at 11:58 am

Oh my gosh…that video is going to be priceless when she is older and brings home her new boyfriend for you and P to meet! She is ADORABLE! Her passion and excitement are contagious!

3 Karly May 4, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Oh, the ending just kills me. That is one funny little girl.

4 Makeshift Mama May 4, 2008 at 12:26 pm

Oh, man! You should have warned me! I came THIS close to spitting my coffee out when she said that last bit! LOL!

5 Wendy Darling May 4, 2008 at 12:45 pm

As another one of Italian heritage, I can clearly relate to the use of hands while talking. :-) Very cute!!

6 Mel May 4, 2008 at 12:59 pm

Did she get her line caught on the bottom of the boat?

Kids are too funny!

7 Renna May 4, 2008 at 1:14 pm

That was thoroughly entertaining, and going along with what Jenny said, I agree the video could be priceless when she’s about 16.

8 kelli May 4, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Bwahahahahahhahahahaha! She cracks me up!

9 Cheryl May 4, 2008 at 1:44 pm

oh. my. word!!!!!!!!!!
I bent over laughing at that one! She totally caught me off guard with her last statement.

Fishing equipment $25
Cute little camo shirt $15
Video that will embarass her in the future-priceless!!!!

Big Mama! I dont’ want to sound like a blog-stalker but it was SO good to finally have a voice to the blog!
Caroline is a hoot!

11 D May 4, 2008 at 2:01 pm

Too, too cute! I have 3 girls (5, 5, 4) and their storytelling style is very similar to Caroline’s right up to the bold proclamation of bodily functions.

12 maria May 4, 2008 at 2:02 pm

Yeah Big Mama, what Stephanie said…your accent is so cute! And well I have found that most good fishing stories end with some poop.

13 Sister Honey Bunch May 4, 2008 at 2:05 pm

My favorite: “I need to go poop”. Yep. Our kids keep us humble.

14 Liz May 4, 2008 at 2:10 pm

all that yankin’ lol

15 Chelle' May 4, 2008 at 2:11 pm

…and yankin’ and yankin’ and yankin’ and yankin’…..

I need to go poop.

PRICELESS!!

On a personal note- I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your Oh So Southern accent!!!! Now I feel as though I am a friend and not just an internet reader of your life. :0)

16 Holly Smith May 4, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Funny! Who knew I had an italian heritage? But I must what with the hand gesturing and oversharing. :)

Our Tabor likes to talk with his hands as well. They’d have to talk from a couple feet apart, so no one would get hit.

17 Ruth May 4, 2008 at 2:16 pm

Priceless. Thanks for sharing. :-)

18 Melanie May 4, 2008 at 2:19 pm

But was there any yanking? :>)

SHE IS ADORABLE!!!

19 Inna May 4, 2008 at 2:28 pm

She is hilarious! Love the ending! :D

20 Sara May 4, 2008 at 2:37 pm

So funny! My son is 4 1/2 and he is big on the hand gestures too. I cracked up with the “I have to go poop” part because we get that a lot in the middle of our stories too!

21 Org Junkie May 4, 2008 at 2:43 pm

That is such a fun age, I LOVE it!!

Too funny :)

22 Kara Messner May 4, 2008 at 2:54 pm

I am not sure if I have ever left a comment for your blog or not. I have been a new reader for the past several weeks and your interesting and funny posts have now brought you up to a “must check everyday” status on my end. I really enjoy your writing style and I must say that this last video of your daughter with the fishing story was priceless. I was laughing out loud thinking that my daughter will be quite similar when she gets older – mainly because that was ME when I was younger! Thanks for sharing on the blogosphere!

23 brandi May 4, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Glad I watched to the end, the last five seconds are the best!

24 AnnieD May 4, 2008 at 3:14 pm

That was glorious.

25 Erin May 4, 2008 at 3:19 pm

what more is there to say?

26 Lavender Chick May 4, 2008 at 3:29 pm

LOVED it! I’m still laughing… Got to go watch it again!

27 Kelly May 4, 2008 at 3:34 pm

The Academy called.
They are wondering where to send the Oscar.

28 robin eggen May 4, 2008 at 3:39 pm

At least she knows her limits on not starting long stories when other things need to happen first.

I laughed so hard!

29 Amy Beth @ Ministry So Fabulous! May 4, 2008 at 3:45 pm

Unbelievable.

30 Jenny May 4, 2008 at 3:59 pm

i liked your southern drawl– very cute. :)
and the hand gestures KIIIILLLED ME!!! caroline, you are a funny girl… just like your (big) mama. haaaaa….

31 Moriah (Please Pass the Salt) May 4, 2008 at 4:00 pm

BAH HA HA! Madeline did that to me TODAY…IN CHURCH!

32 Ashleigh (Heart and Home) May 4, 2008 at 4:26 pm

I nearly spewed diet Coke out my nose. Okay, now breathe, breathe. TOO funny!

Clearly, this is why God gave us kids. He knew we’d get bored from time to time and need a constant form of entertainment.

33 Stephanie May 4, 2008 at 5:08 pm

Keeping it real, here at Big Mama. Caroline is a cutie pie!

34 cyn May 4, 2008 at 5:35 pm

That is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!
Is she always that animated? IF she is, we must keep her far from my five year old. They would make quite a pair! TROUBLE!

35 Jenn May 4, 2008 at 5:57 pm

Hahahahahaha! I love a surprise ending :) That’s priceless.

36 Joni May 4, 2008 at 6:05 pm

Too funny.

I was telling a story the other day and the same thing happened to me…. : )

37 Heather @ Loving Our Homeschool May 4, 2008 at 6:45 pm

Oh, I’m just cracking up at the ending!! She reminds me of my niece telling us all a story, ending and all. LOL

38 Angie May 4, 2008 at 7:44 pm

Funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. Love it!

39 Christine @ Serenity How? May 4, 2008 at 7:46 pm

What a cutie! Loved it! :)

40 Cathy May 4, 2008 at 8:00 pm

Well, apparently Caroline is the long lost twin of my 5 year old son. I just made my husband watch that video, and he said, “Gosh, that looks familiar! Who knew he had a sister out there somewhere?” They’d be seriously dangerous together. So funny. Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone.

41 Jackie Sue May 4, 2008 at 8:02 pm

The whole family gathered around to watch that one…laughed outloud…thanks for that! She is precious…and so reserved and shy :-)

42 Sarah May 4, 2008 at 8:16 pm

“and yanking and yanking and yanking” HA! Adorable.

43 Emily May 4, 2008 at 8:37 pm

I’ve been reading your blog for a long time but have never commented. That video was hilarious. I was laughing out-loud for sure!

44 Jen May 4, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Oh my word!!! That just kills me! toooo funny!!!

45 Ashley May 4, 2008 at 8:47 pm

Did she finish the story after she went poop? Or was it just too long? And was there more yanking?

Way too cute.

46 Maxime May 4, 2008 at 9:13 pm

That has got to be the cutest thing ever!

Absolutely priceless!

47 Betsy May 4, 2008 at 10:17 pm

Now THAT is funny!! You could send it in to America’s Funniest Home Videos!! Actually, no, wait a few years and THEN send it in… she will just want to DIE! (Imagine her saying that with big arm motions and lots of tears! ha ha)

48 Fran May 4, 2008 at 10:55 pm

Ohhhhh…watch out Hollywood…I see a star in the making…..

a yankin and yankin and yankin!!

And, I gotta go poop!!

Way too funny Caroline! Great story!

49 Jenny May 4, 2008 at 10:59 pm

She is too cute. And funny too!! I bet she’ll really love that video when she’s about 14. ;)

50 Indiana Keetha May 5, 2008 at 3:45 am

I’m laughing right out loud now – - – that ending was to die for!!!

51 Dana May 5, 2008 at 6:25 am

All that yankin always leads to poop (or toots!)

52 Linda at 2nd Cup May 5, 2008 at 6:57 am

Cutest thing ever. Ev-er.

53 AnnieH May 5, 2008 at 6:57 am

Hilarious! She is such a cutie! Our 4 year old little boy likes to announce his need to poop wherever he may be. Saturday we were in Wal-Mart, when he yelled it out. It must be a 4 year old thing…

Anyway, you got one funny gal!

54 Muddy May 5, 2008 at 8:46 am

lol priceless

55 lori May 5, 2008 at 9:01 am

I LOVE that. Wow…..THAT was why she was using the hands…..to keep from thinking of the other! What a sweetie….thanks for sharing!

56 Darlene May 5, 2008 at 9:24 am

So Funny!

I loved the yankin’ and yankin’ and yankin’…

And I gotta go poop~~ so funny!

She is quite animated, isn’t she?!

57 Sasser May 5, 2008 at 9:51 am

I love the honesty

58 Quirky May 5, 2008 at 11:57 am

Too cute! That was the short version of the story? I’m worn out just from listening. The ending was worth it though.

59 Cindy May 5, 2008 at 12:17 pm

I wish she’d been a little more animated. Hopefully she’ll come out of her shell someday. :)

60 Blessed with olive plants May 5, 2008 at 12:32 pm

Oh too cute!!!

61 Fuschia May 5, 2008 at 12:45 pm

The only thing more fantastic than her story ending was your willingness to share it with us! I, too, almost lost coffee through the nose.

62 jean May 5, 2008 at 1:24 pm

“I need to go poo”. Classic. She will be so proud of this video someday. I want to be there in 10 years when you show it to her again.

63 Kathleen in TX May 5, 2008 at 1:29 pm

I had to laugh! She reminds me so much of my oldest daughter (6 yrs). Love the animated storytelling! And yes, at our house that would be saved for viewing at a later date…

64 Beth B. May 5, 2008 at 1:42 pm

ok now THAT was hilarious. :-) I have a 4 1/2 year old myself so i know all about this…. anyway – thanks for sharing a good laugh this morning.

Beth B. (tired mommy to a busy 4.5 yr old)

65 nicole May 5, 2008 at 3:58 pm

Greatness! What an ending. I love how kids share everything.

66 Amy May 5, 2008 at 4:19 pm

Stinkin’ hilarious! Oh, no pun intended!

67 Jessica May 5, 2008 at 4:25 pm

I love it! What a precious girl you have. Save that to show to her future husband. My mom shared all our naked little kid videos with my husband when we were dating in high school. He then delighted in telling people he had seen me naked. Ha ha!

68 PJ May 5, 2008 at 8:37 pm

Get it on DVD and play it at her wedding rehearsal!!!! It’s priceless!

69 Amanda May 5, 2008 at 9:32 pm

You could not have planned a better ending. If she wouldn’t hate you for the rest of her life, I’d send it into America’s Funniest Home Videos (or whatever the current format is).

70 Honey May 5, 2008 at 10:37 pm

I DO love that sweet child!!!

71 Jen May 6, 2008 at 1:55 pm

OMGoodness! I am just dying over here. Caroline and J would be good, good friends. That is just too funny!

72 Annie May 6, 2008 at 2:09 pm

You should have warned us that anyone who is 36 weeks, and 2 days pregnant (like me) ought not to view that video for fear of pre-term labor due to spontaneous outbreak of big ol’ belly laughs! Priceless. Simply priceless.

73 Elaine May 6, 2008 at 4:10 pm

That could NOT have ended any better. I love the “yankin and yankin’ and yankin’” part!!

74 Tina May 6, 2008 at 9:47 pm

laughing so hard i’m crying…JUST in case you were wondering!!!

75 Christine May 7, 2008 at 9:35 am

Cutest thing I’ve ever seen!!!!

76 Emilie May 7, 2008 at 2:25 pm

I am that fool in the office that bursts out with a loud “HAW” when all else is dead silent. Thank you thank you for making my day… and making my coworkers think I am nuts.

77 Sileena May 8, 2008 at 2:22 pm

That was HILARIOUS!!!! It takes guts to share EVERYTHING with all of us! HA

78 Suzanne Eller May 8, 2008 at 2:23 pm

Love your site, and the video of your little storyteller. : )

79 Janel May 10, 2008 at 8:58 pm

Oh, I just love it! She may not love it when she is about 14, but whoo hoo that is funny! Thanks for sharing. she is a cutie pie.

80 Marie May 11, 2008 at 4:42 pm

Oh my word! I laughed till I cried! I needed that laugh today, thank you Caroline. The ending was really special!

Hugs,
Marie
