Whatever happened to Fashion Friday?

August 15, 2008

Thank you so much for all the birthday wishes, emails and sweet comments! I have to say, other than the fact that it’s just three years away from forty, thirty-seven is awesome.

We’ve been at the beach in Port Aransas since Tuesday morning, so this is how I spent my birthday.

I’ll have y’all know that I became so obsessed with building that moat that I continued to dig long after Caroline lost interest and headed back into the surf.

In fact, look what I did to my finger in my quest to make the BEST MOAT EVER.

The picture does not do my injury justice. It is a massive blister.

I blame the quality of the plastic shovel that I bought at Dollar Tree.

And the fact that my OCD was alive and well on my 37th birthday.

We got home late yesterday and decided to finish the birthday celebration by picking up Mexican food from one of my favorite restaurants.

Oh, and then I spent the rest of the night watching The Olympics and getting P to take pictures of the blister on my finger from various angles so that I can show it to Caroline some day as proof of her mama’s dedication to sand-crafting excellence.

Which just goes to show, while I may be a year older, some things never change.

And on another note, I promise I will get back to Fashion Friday at some point, but it clearly didn’t happen today and I guarantee it won’t happen next week. Let’s just call it a summer hiatus.

Y’all have a great Friday.

Diet coke in photo is hilarious.

why is it that cameras never do justice for blisters?

i recently tried to photograph some pics of blisters on my baby’s toes…from crawling of things…they didn’t turn out.

all that said…i trust you that it is awful.

just awful.

I dunno…nothin’ says haute couture like goggle “sunglasses” and a hot pink beach hat ;) .

4 Superchikk August 15, 2008 at 6:28 am

Love it.

I would also like to know where you got your “rashguard” shirt. I easily found one for my son this year, but haven’t been able to find one for me!

And the blister…totally horrid. ;)

You weren’t one year older on your birthday, just a day older than the day before. :)

I guess I will just have to slum it in my jammies today. so sad. :)

May the finger heal well! Glad you had a great birthday!

Port Aransas? Are you serious? That’s my neck of the woods! So close! Did you eat at La Playa? That has to be one of my favorite restaurants, period. We love to rent to golf carts and ride all around. Lots of fun. I think you are ready to enter the Sand Castle festival in Port Aransas next year. (I just learned this year how the sand castle festival is the best in the nation…it has the best sand…who knew?) Take care, Julie

I hope it is not weird to say this, but you have some great legs! And you are clearly a dedicated Mommy. And I miss Fashion Friday and eagerly await its return.

It’s too hot to be fashionable anyway!

I got a blister playing “follow the leader” with my kids last spring…I set my knee down on the slide and it burned me…I never did get the picture I planned to take, but the scar is still there 5+ months later, so I use it to my advantage when I can :)

Oh such great memories of Port Aransas! Okay – minus the tar. Someday…I go back to the sun and the sand and the beautiful salt water!!! (sigh) thanks for the great memory!

I want your legs. If my legs look that good at 37 I’ll eat my hat. Even if it’s not made of meat.

That is all.

I’m from Corpus Christi (but live in Georgia now) so when you mention Port A, my heart sang “Home!” Sweet memories.

Hope you guys have made some sweet ones yourselves. Looks like ya have.

If you’re still there, I’m curious to know if you have seen the pool at Port Royal? Oh, it is the best. Enjoy!

I just wanted to say that I turned the BIG 4-0 this year.

I will have to say turing 40 was not as bad as I had it in my mind it was going to be.

I was dreading that awful day, but on my actual birthday I snapped out of it and had a great day at the zoo with my family.

Oh, and my husband took me on a cruise to celebrate. Can’t beat that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I enjoy your blog.

Glad you had a great day…sorry about your blister. One question, how in the world do you pronounce that beach name? And, from a woman who used to do the sun thing, you have really changed! So, an old dog CAN learn new tricks…I am so totally joking about the old dog…since I will turn a full 10 years older than you next week!

despite the blister, sounds like a perfect way to spend any birthday. i mean who doesn’t love a good moat?

18 Shalee August 15, 2008 at 1:11 pm

Melanie, if it weren’t for the fact that I like you so much and know that your heart is beautiful in so many ways, I would totally be ticked that you could post a picture of you like that. Long pretty legs and you looked great at the beach, shirt hat and all.

Happy birthday! 37 is a lot more fun than you think!

19 Lori August 15, 2008 at 1:21 pm

What a wonderful way to spend a birthday! You do need to keep the pictures of that blister. You can remind Caroline of your sacrifice when she gets to the middle school years….I noticed the hat….could it be you are trying to protect the face from the bad sun rays?? That’s what turning 37 does to us. Robs us of our innocence.

20 Indiana Keetha August 15, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Actually, THIS is my favorite of your “types” of posts – - – this where you share photos and stories of her own life.

Thanks!!!

21 Nancy August 15, 2008 at 5:23 pm

37 was one of my best years! Enjoy it!

22 Rena August 15, 2008 at 5:24 pm

I’m longing for the beach…
hope you had a great time! At least your not one year away from 40. ;)

Rena

23 Rena August 15, 2008 at 5:25 pm

um, that’s “at least YOU’RE not one year from 40″…

…that would be a bit of MY ocd coming through…must correct the typo.

25 Rachael August 15, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Looks like a lovely time. Where did you get your swim shirt? They are hard to find!

26 Hollie August 15, 2008 at 9:52 pm

okay so i’m going through fashion friday withdrawal and I need my fix. Glad to hear your b=day was filled with fun times (and blisters?)but we miss you out here in the blogosphere!! Come back home!!

27 Brickhouse August 16, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Okay, I am sending my drill sarge of a trainer to your house to beat you. Your legs look great, and I don’t think that my 300 squats (done out of fear of my trainer) are going to get me there!!!

I am trying to remember how I spent my birthday this year. Oh wait, you are going to laugh. I took the boys to the beach! And you are really going to laugh when I tell you that I spent the day with OCD making a sand COUCH! I will try to remember to send you a picture! It was big enough for Jared to lay down on. I was very proud. We took breaks to get in the water and dig our toes in the sand for hermit crabs. What we didn’t know was that a tropical storm was headed our way. We were enjoying a beautiful day, while others were boarding up their beach cabins and heading out. Ignorance really is bliss!
