On Saturday my sister and I packed up our girls and headed to Beaumont to see Nanny. Our mom is also in town right now, so we got more family for our road trip buck and it’s a good thing because I was tempted to head back home sometime around Schulenberg, Texas due to a headphone malfunction that caused some angst in the back seat.
We’ve had a great time this weekend. One of the personal highlights for me was watching the American Music Awards and hearing my Nanny ask, “Oh! Is that Fifty Cents?”
Granted, it should be pronounced 50 Cent and it was actually Kanye West, but still, how about the cultural relevance from a nonagenarian?
All Caroline has talked about since the last visit is Nanny’s cat named Coco or, as Caroline likes to call her, Coconut.
The minute we walked through the front door on Saturday, Caroline found Coconut and hasn’t let her out her sight ever since. It has been a sweet reunion of old friends.
Although I think for Coco it might be more like the dreaded realization that your great aunt Bessie has come for a visit and may hug the life out of you before she leaves.

That cat is huge! or all fur:)
I had the same cat growing up.
Waaaaaa, now I’m missing her.
I love hearing about Caroline – she reminds me SO much of my own youngest daughter that it’s kind of like reliving it all.
Except, of course, you get the challenging, day-to-day stuff.
)
Every time I see a picture of Caroline holding that cat I cannot get over how huge it seems.
Can you post a picture of the cat just sitting, to give us a better idea of what it actually looks like.
In the pictures of it being hugged to death, it always looks like it must weigh around forty five pounds!
Cat? Are you sure?
We leave for my parent’s house on Wednesday.
There I will see my Granny who is 92. I can not even tell you the rejoicing over eating her dressing, coconut cake, and cheese pie (oh, and I love getting to spend time with her too).
Anyway, my daughter loves my parent’s dog, Scout. She loves her so much that Scout (a normally social dog) will hide in the laundry room the remainder of our visit. Coco is not alone!
Everytime you show a picture of Coco the cat it freaks me out and causes me to jump a little at the computer. That cat is so big and furry. Very, very furry. Some friends I know have a dog named Stormie and a little granddaughter who is three years old. The three year old chases the dog all over their house – under the table, under the bed, etc. Except they are mutual friends because when the three year old has had something good to eat the dog is more than happy to help her clean her hands with its’ gleeful licks.
I have to know, did you make another trip to Parkdale Mall and let Caroline jump on the trampoline bungee thingy? Glad you got to spend time with your family.
That’s a Cat? I tought it was a furry wombat nest!
Speaking of wombat nests, have you seen these sweaters? http://weloveholidaysweaters.wehatesheep.com/
I think some of these could win the tacky sweater contest HANDS DOWN!
Too funny about Nanny and the AMA!! (Actually, I think it would be “Fiddy Cent”. Or something like that.)
Caroline holding the cat like that cracks me up! : )
I just can’t go before I comment on your Nanny asking about “50 cents”.. I tell you that is hilarious and priceless!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Love,
Patty
That cat looks so much like Maggie. It’s scary.
Have fun with Nanny! Good times!
From what you’ve shared about her, I’m just crazy about your Nanny. She sounds like so much fun!
And that cat….oh, my!
Caroline with Coconut reminds me of the dentist’s niece Darla in Finding Nemo: (shaking Nemo’s bag): “WHY…ARE…YOU…SLEEPING?!!!!”
I’m loving the tv in the background! That is a classic.
50 Cent??? Really??? Thats hilarious!
Go Nanny Go!! What did she think about the outfits??
My brother used to have a small pug that was so loved by my daughter, it would end up hiding under large pieces of furniture to get a break from the vigorous affection.
Great Aunt Bessie indeed.
Oh my dear. That poor cat!
)
That’s a cat?! It’s true. Things are bigger in Texas!
I thought that was a picture of a dog. That cat is huge!!
You came to Beaumont and did not tell me? We went to Frankie’s this past Sunday for lunch. You would have been so welcomed to come. Now I am in Fredericksburg. Close to you.
Is that cat on ‘roids, the ‘juice’? It’s as big as Caroline…….
What a fun trip. Definitely a memory maker. You must get your wit from your nanny!
I will never get over the size of that cat…I mean, I am dumbfounded!
Holy hairball Batman! Are you sure that’s a cat?
That cat’s bigger than Caroline. I’m sure Coco could get away should she so desire!!!
Heeeey, we took the same route…but we ended in Denham Springs, LA. Much much further than Beaumont.
