Because I am thankful

November 27, 2008

Caroline’s version of the reason we celebrate Thanksgiving goes something like this:

“A long time ago the Indians and the Cowboys were fighting. Then they stopped fighting and said, ‘Hey, why don’t we all eat some dinner and be friends with each other.’”

I’m not sure this is completely historically accurate so check Wikipedia before you go throwing this story around at dinner parties and such in an attempt to impress people with your knowledge of history.

For me, this Thanksgiving is especially poignant because it comes right on the heels of my trip to the Dominican Republic. As I sit around the table with my family, I will take a moment to be grateful for things I have taken for granted in years past.

Things as simple as clean water from the tap.

I am beyond grateful and humbled at the blessings God has lavishly poured out on my undeserving soul.

And I’m grateful that y’all take the time to stop by and read whatever randomness I write each day.

Happy Thanksgiving! May your tummies and your hearts be full today.

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1

Today, as my brother sleeps on my couch, I am thankful for my boys who have come home safe from the war. I am thankful for what they have sacrificed for us.

Happy Thanksgiving, Melanie and family! Happy Thanksgiving to the Big Mama Blog Reader Family!

When Caroline gets to third grade and hears the real background of Thanksgiving, she might be a little shocked to find out those “cowboys” are “pilgrims.” :) Have a happy one!

That’s my favorite verse! I don’t have very man bible verses memorized but this one I’ve known forever.
I’m thankful with you today. Caroline is on to something…nothing like bonding with friends (and family) over a meal that makes you whip out your XXL sweat pants from WalMart! Or Juicy Coture velour suit, like some of us people own :-)

I just ordered some of these: http://thankyoubracelets.com/

Because my ungrateful behind needs to be reminded every day about how my cup truly does runneth over. And I bought extras to share.

There’s nothing like a Mission Trip to a 3rd world country to open your eyes to ALL we have to be thankful for! Clean water and a good plumbing system are at the top of my list with central heat and air being up there, too.
Have a wonderfully BLESSED Thanksgiving!!

Mel, your blog is always a highlight of my day. I have told you before that my granddaughter, Avery, gets such a kick out of Caroline and we just love your positive messages. We have so much to be thankful for and you are on my thankful list. The story is simple and great. That’s what we need more of….simple. God Bless!

I am thankful for the humor you produce in my day.

For the kids that are running around me driving me crazy today.

For the turkey I smell but can not eat yet.

For the shopping day Mom and I are about to experience.

And the PARADE, I love it!

Enjoy your day!

I am thankful for you and your blog and all that comes with it. Especially the love of God and the humor as it reminds me that I am normal and the things I think and/or encounter as a mother are the same for other mothers as well.

A Belated Happy Thanksgiving to you!
