A few notes of interest

November 28, 2008

For those of y’all who are interested (all three of you!), I thought I’d let you know that I did not venture out this morning for Black Friday shopping. I decided to go with my original thought which is there isn’t enough money to be saved or sedatives to be taken to make me want to get out in the crowds on a Friday morning.

Plus, you know the new Target is now seven minutes and one extra stoplight away instead of five and I just don’t have that kind of time.

And Walmart is too much for my delicate sensibilities on a normal day that doesn’t involve professional shoppers looking for great deals on flat screen T.V.’s. and a Barbie Hot Tub Party Bus.

So, I’m just sitting here eating leftover chocolate ice box pudding, the way God and the pilgrims intended.

However, there are a few things I need to share because they are too good to keep to myself.

1. From now until Monday, December 1st you can make personalized Christmas cards at Studio Dayspring. They have really cute designs and, best of all, if you enter the code Staff50 at checkout you can get 50% off your order of 50 or more cards.

2. CWDKids is doing a fun 12 Days of Giveaways on their Kidbits blog starting Monday, December 1st.

They’ll be giving away gift certificates, products, and charitable donations. The first day, they will ask blog readers to tell them what charity is important to them and why. They’ll pick one winner and donate $250 to their charity.

The winners for the 12 days of prizes will be announced on December 25.

3. Don’t forget that if you want to participate in the Dear Army Family project, you need to get your cards in the mail today.

I wish I had two more things so I could have a list of five, but Caroline is threatening to run away if she can’t get on the computer and play various games on Nick Jr.

It’s a lot of drama.

Can’t tell you how proud I am of you that you passed on the early morning madness! This is the first Black Friday in 8 years I haven’t had to work the madness at the Bullseye and it’s heaven! Needless to say, I’m not shopping either!

I saw that someone got stampeded to death in New York this morning at Walmart. How sad for his or her family.

I never shop on Black Friday, it’s too scary.

I’m sitting at home today with my children eating leftovers.

You are smart. Check out my blog later and I’ll tell you how WalMart and Target were her in the DC area…at 4am. :o )

Way to stay home Big Mama! I think really the sane people were the ones that were still asleep at 5 a.m. instead of pressing through the windows of Best Buy. The former included myself and my household. I don’t think I can speak for extended family, though.

i slept in this morning, and it was SO worth it! we did make one evening trip to Garden Ridge last night for a new Christmas tree, and that was enough to wipe me out. :0)

So glad to find you’re home and posting in bloggy land today! Have to have my daily fix of bloggy posts and so many of my other friends have taken a vacation for the weekend! :)

As for me, all I could think of to write about on my blog today was FOOD! Imagine that! ha

I did sleep in this morning but relented and hit Walmart before the big sale was up at 11:00. Got several “Princess” items for granddaughter’s Christmas.

The chocolate ice box pudding sounds divine by the way!

I did not shop either but my mother, my son and I are going tonight. I really don’t care for shopping at anytime but the is the only time of year that I do shop. I have to be in the mood and know what I am going after. Well today instead of working (yes we had to work today) I have study ads and my Christmas list and I am ready to do some shopping!

I just have to tell you how enjoyable i find your blog!!! I came upon it by accident in September and have to read it every day… it makes me laugh and lifts my spirits! Today was my 14th black friday working at old navy and today I had to be there at 4:00am (we opened at five). All I can say is EVERY customer i had today was so nice (unlike Last year where people yelled at us and threw clothes at us…unbelievable). It was a good day and I even got a couple bargains at Target (which is next door to our store) so I felt like I was able to participate in the madness. Just know that the retailers will have tons of great deals in the next three weeks to keep us in the stores! have a great weekend. p.s. I’ve never commented on a blog before!!

This was my very first black friday participation. Other than getting a few electronic stuff for a great deal (my husband not me), I really don’t get what the fuss is really about. Next year, I’ll go back to my original ways and sit on the couch eating leftover pumpking cream cheese filling sandwich cake with chocolate icing (it basically looks like a ginormous moon pie) and watch old Christmas movies on the couch.

Basically, you didn’t miss much.

Is Black Friday something new? I don’t remember it from when I lived back “home” (the US 13 yrs ago) but then again… senility might be setting in. Hmmm?
IMO…There is no bargain in the world worth fighting crowds for, and I really think online shopping is sooo much easier.
I got most of my Christmas buying out of the way at 4 am this morning. Why get dressed when you can do it in your jammies?? :o )
BTW… I’m addicted and start my morning reading your blog. I really should be doing other things. More productive things.. but hey, I like what I like.

Glad I’m not the only one who stayed home. I let the men in my family do all the Black Friday business. Because I have a teensy fear that a hysterical shopper might decide to go crazy and take hostages. But the men in my family would know what to do. Me? I would just give them my purse and run for the shoe department. Much safer to sit by the wood stove and wait the whole thing out. With the left over Sees Candy box.

Thank-you so much for posting the link and the discount code for dayspring! I got on there right away and created a bunch of fantastic picture postcards to send to our extended family…and even with the shipping to Canada it was only about $1 per card! Yay! :)

I have spent a good portion of the day with my head either in the refrigerator or the washer. I can’t keep from eating and then this houseload of people can’t keep from using 3 towels at a time when they shower. It’s a zoo but I love it.

“the way God and the pilgrims intended” :-) Thanks for brightening my day!

Black Friday is crazy…i went later in the day but yikes…it looked like a herd at stampeded the stores..

16 Kathy November 28, 2008 at 10:28 pm

Girl, neither did I! I stayed in my robe and pajamas all day and made foacaccia bread with reggiano parmesan sprinkled on top! Happy holidays to you and your lovely family -

we went out to the land of crazies… and it was so fun. I guess our town isn’t as bad as some places – that, and we were not looking for electronics. People aren’t that ruthless over play-doh and foam swords…

Thanks for reminding folks about the Dear Army Family cards. I have started getting some in, and it has been so heartwarming!

I absolutely love your style of writing. You end up making the most random useless information interesting. Kudos for Big Mama!

I wish I had your strength of will.. I ventured out and THEN I remembered why I don’t like to shop on this particular day!

Check out my blog to see the pics of the ridiculous parking lots I fought a spot for to get a total of 5 items on my list… BUT I saved about $100 between them all! NICE.

I’m with you. Black Friday shopping is not for me!

Just in case any other readers were tempted to use Dayspring for Christmas cards….DON’T!!!! I ordered mine, waited and waited, and they arrived today. I was so excited!!! Only to open the box and find that my pics, which were taken with a 10.1 megapixel camera were grainy. And orange. That’s right – every one of my children has orange skin. I popped those suckers RIGHT BACK in the FedEx box and shipped them back. And now, I’m starting over on the Christmas card hunt.

I hope my experience can save some other people from the same fate!
