Y’all.
If ever a week was about to do me in, this would be that week. If I could go back in time and talk to myself last week at this time here is what I would say.
“Girlfriend, deciding to paint an entire backhouse in the name of distracting yourself from going to Target is a bad idea. It is evident that someone who puts off cleaning the bathrooms until the last possible disease-filled moment isn’t necessarily a good candidate for undertaking a massive home improvement project.”
I was actually doing pretty well until Wednesday came along and then I reached my limit because I tried to do too much. I spent the morning helping out in Caroline’s classroom, went to the grocery store, came home and started painting the house, went inside to make Rice Krispy treats for Caroline to take for snack, painted some more, cooked meatloaf for dinner, got Caroline bathed and in bed, and then went to Bible study while simultaneously suffering from massive PMS.
And now I would just like to crawl in bed for a week with a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup the size of my head and all the American Idol that’s waiting for me on my DVR.
So you may be wondering what any of this has to do with fashion.
Yesterday, Angie Smith from Bring The Rain posted a precious video and in this video she called out to me for some scarf-tying assistance. I love Angie and I am never one to turn down a sister in a time of fashion need, so I called Gulley and asked her if she’d like to come over and videotape me doing a scarf-tying demonstration.
Because what else could Gulley possibly have going on that’s more important than that? Feeding her family? Taking care of her children?
She came over and we basically made the most amateur video known to man. The lighting is horrible, there’s a continual clunking sound which I think is her wedding ring hitting the camera, and I sound like I have a lisp every time I say “scarf” or “issues”.
I realize that after that build up, you are dying to see it and, in all honesty, I have never worked so hard to make a big goob out of myself on the internet because I have tried (UNSUCCESSFULLY!) to upload the aforementioned video for the last twelve hours.
I’d like to blame Youtube or Vimeo, but the problem lies somewhere with my camera and my computer and my intellect. However, I have called in technical support that will be arriving later this morning and I will either get the video to work or I will make a brand new one.
It will not beat me.
And I wish in the meantime I could offer some other brilliant fashion advice, but I am completely unprepared because I put all my eggs in the scarf-tying video basket.
I could not be sorrier for my lack of technical skills and abilities and the minions of Satan who have taken over the iMovie feature of my Macbook.
Just know that I will have a video up before the day is over and hopefully it will be about tying scarves.

I have been all about the scarves this year, and Christmas really beefed up my collection. It didn’t really occur to me as I accumulated them that I might not want to wear one (or two) every single day of my life. Still, I’m having trouble resisting buying more. But I don’t want to end up making quilts from scarf squares, especially since I don’t know how to quilt.
You could always make a new video on your new specialist subject of painting the backhouse.
Found your blog this morning and let me tell you, you had me in stiches laughing. I will be adding you to my favorties -for sure! Angie has been there for awhile:)I loved, loved , loved the post where you made the elk for your friends. Having to get excited over that raw hanging meat… bringing it in to “clean it up”- yeah , I’ve had to do that kind of stuff…. funny!! I wil be checking your progress on that back house:)
yay! I have been waiting for this since I saw Angie’s video yesterday — I can’t wait to see! I spent a lot of yesterday getting acquainted with your blog, which is quite delightful!!
Looking forward to the scarf tying lesson!!!!
can’t wait!
I had a feeling about that backhouse . . . I’m just sayin’.
I am on the edge of my seat. Especially since I didn’t know I was supposed to tie my scarf…
video aside (I know it will be great), you now have a great excuse for ANYTHING that doesn’t get done around your house in the next month:
blame it on the backhouse.
oh the video upload can be a beast! hopefully your tech support is a genius… and hopefully you can take a break from the backhouse this weekend and just kick back after all the hard labor =)
My first Fashion Friday…here I am…and I’m told I “have to” wait!!?? No seriously I can so relate to this post because I’m SO technically challenged myself.
I found this blog through Angie’s (who I’ve been reading for nearly a year now) and since I think she’s just precious and sweet—I thought this one too would be a great one to add to my fav’s. As it is now between my 1/2 doz. blogs and Facebook…where does my time go???
I will be checking back to I can find out how to be even “cooler” with scarves……
Oh my! I love the first word of this post. Ya’ll! lol
I pray for the goodness and mercies of YouTube and/or Vimeo because I can’t, for the stinkin life of me, tie a scarf so I don’t look like a big goof.
It could also be because my scarves are about 12 years old, short, and thick as a ream of paper. I probably should go with the thinner, longer ones. That way, when I do tie them, albeit incorrectly, they won’t be so thick that I have to walk around with my head and neck looking like I’ve been in some sort of vehicle accident and am wearing a neck brace.
Call me crazy.
Spiritual warfare.. that’s what it is. I see it everywhere, and it’s gonna be the topic of my next post, and I come here and find that he has escalated the battle by putting a hex on your computer. And I can’t even think of what he’s doing through the backhouse. I’m prayin’ for you… and it might even be a “get down on my knees” kind of prayer, cause Angie NEEDS that video, and so do I. Thank you for hearing our prayers, merciful Lord..
I don’t do scarves or any other accessories that look like I’m trying. I’m fashion-illiterate, and my only hope is convincing people I don’t care.
But I’ll watch the video just to hear your cute accent.
Oh, Darlin’! Don’t you just love all these crazy little frustrations!?? Opportunities for growth! Can’t wait to see–and hear (clunk, clunk)–the scarf video. But! If it has been viciously destroyed by Satan’s minions (who seem to regularly disturb my cyber-space power), know that I’m praying for you! I’m sure you’ll overcome this evil scheme, too! love you! Sylane
Hello! My first time to your blog. You are a great writer…I can spot ‘em a mile away!
I saw on Lysa’s blog that you are going to GNO. So am I! Hope we can meet!
Have a blessed day,
Sandy Cooper
God Speaks Today/Fitness Friday
I have TOTAL faith in you and your computer and such! Can’t wait to see the video!!!

Another first-time visitor today. And I’m desperately in need of scarf-tying advice, since I love the idea of a scarf but can never make it work. So, you know, I’ll be back for the video.
Thank you so much for the scarf tying tips! I am from the North and always use example #4 with my huge, puffy winter coat but it was so nice to see the other options too. Glad the video finally posted!
Thanks for the lesson! I found your blog through Angie though I wont be wearing a scraf anytime soon I might look a bit silly here in the FL heat I will be looking into some rocking jeans!
In addition to loving the video, and your accent, and your advice, I also love that you can (and do) talk about PMS freely. I love it.
I’m another one sent by Angie. I got here last night after her video, and laughed for a LONG time catching up on your blog. Awesome.
As far as the video goes, a couple things struck me as odd: a. I wouldn’t have even noticed you giving fashion advice with half a deer head hanging on your wall had Angie not pointed it out. (yes, that does indicate I’m from Texas.) and b. you said sophisticated ascot, and I was thinking Lorelai Gilmore. (but I’m really not sure what THAT indicates.)
Thanks for the desperately needed scarf tying lesson, and the giggles.
You are so funny!
Yes, the minions of Satan are everywhere, even here: http://sonotsouthbeach.blogspot.com/2008/03/fire-ants-amazing-arthropoda-or-minions.html
Found you from Angie! #4 is the one that I wear ALL the time!
Love it!
I am wondering if you need any new friends. You are my kind of girl!!! Funny stuff and I love that you have friends that will help you do things like this video. If you are ever near Atlanta let me know and I would love to take you to lunch.
Pam
