On Monday afternoon, P mentioned that he would take Caroline to the ranch to go fishing on Tuesday, which worked out nicely because I don’t think another trip to the mall would have gone over all that well. However, if she’s really good, we may hit Target later today. I like to save things like that for special occasions.
Apparently, I’m not the only one suffering from some sort of Daylight Savings Time jet lag because Caroline slept in until 9:15 yesterday. In fact, she was sleeping so hard that she didn’t even wake up when Shorty began raking leaves right by the bedroom window. P rushed outside to ask Shorty to quit raking leaves since Caroline and I were still asleep and for some reason Shorty took that request to mean that he should instead get out the leaf blower and BLOW the leaves out of the yard right by the window.
Because that’s so much quieter.
Anyway, in spite of the roaring sound of the leaf blower, she slept until 9:15. That has happened approximately NONE other times in her entire life.
By the time she woke up, P said they needed to get going if they were going to make it to the ranch, otherwise he’d have to go without her. I guarantee you have never seen someone get a pair of Wranglers and some camo on a child that fast. She was ready to go in about 5.2 seconds with a cup full of dry cereal and a juice box in her hands.
I spent the rest of my morning running a few errands. Then I came home and decided that our bathroom cabinets desperately needed to be cleaned out. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I threw out an entire garbage bag full of various toiletry items, including some Immodium AD that expired in June 2004. On the bright side, it’s nice to know that we haven’t needed any Immodium AD since the early 2000′s.
Apparently my makeup bag is the place where lipgloss goes to die. There were at least sixteen different variations of lipgloss, which is astounding since I wear the exact same color every day. I started trying on various shades to see if any of them were keepers and unfortunately came across some kind of All-Day Lip Color that cemented itself to my lips, which wouldn’t have been so bad except that it was some sort of day-glo coral tone.
Why do I even have that? Did my Great Aunt Fina come to visit and leave it in my bathroom?
So while I threw out six pounds of lipgloss and Maalox (I guess I have some sort of irrational fear about possible stomach ailments that never come to pass. Pun not intended.) my peeps had themselves a big time catching fish and riding around in the Polaris.
I sent the camera with P for the day, hoping he’d get some pictures of the catch of the day. It’s very important to me that we document our Spring Break with photographic evidence of all the fun. He took one darling picture using his cell phone and sent it to me.
I’d love to show it to y’all, but the problem is that I don’t know how to get pictures off my iPhone and onto the computer. Part of the problem may be that I don’t actually have an iPhone, but just a four-year-old hot pink Motorola Razr phone which seemed so cool and edgy four years ago and now is just a constant reminder that technology has passed me by and left me lying in the gutter of total uncoolness.
It’s probably kind of how Bill Gates feels.
However, I did get some video of Caroline talking about her day after they got back home. She was channeling her inner Steven Spielberg, so it took a couple of tries to get the whole story, but here it is in all it’s amateur quality.
Spring Break Fishing Trip from Big Mama on Vimeo.
Here’s hoping that she’ll always say “be-cept”.
Also, the temperatures are supposed to drop into the forties complete with some sort of monsoon later today. It’s going to put a real damper on Spring Break ’09.
Pray for me.

Hi…I found your blog through “Bring the Rain” and love it! My son says “be-cept” as well…He is almost 8 and I just don’t have the heart to tell him otherwise. It is too darn cute.=)
That might drive you nuts when she’s 14. She’s so cute.
You’re a hoot!
she is so cute. “ginormous” is one of my favorite words!
how wonderful to make those memories with her daddy… priceless!
As a mom of two college kids, I say a great big “yay, you!” for documenting even the small things of Spring Break ’09. Time flies by. And oh yeah – I have the same hot pink Motorola Razr…
“And I loved it, and I had a good time, and I loved it.”
LOL!!!!!!!! She’s a riot!
Try this…..pull up the picture on your cell phone and hit “send to”……then type in your home email address…then send.
Then once you receive it in your email, you can “file” it and import it on your so cute, so funny blog.
That works for me on my pitiful little cell phone…
I would talk more be’cept I gotta go to work….
Spring break or the time change = one or both has made you real funny.
I have the razr phone too and normally I don’t care about such things but lately I’ve been a little embarassed of it. ha!
Well I’m going to take a guess and say she had fun. I hope I’m right. ;o)
AH-DOOR-ABLE!!! Such a cutie!
Glad she had such a fun day with her Daddy!
She’s adorable!
I think it’s so cute how she can go from the pretty dress in yesterdays post to camo in todays!
I switched phone companies from (in the day) Cingular to Verizon JUST so I could get the LIGHT pink Motorala Razr. I thought it was a must have accesory and I much preferred, for me, the light pink vs. the darker shade at Cingular. So I gave up all my rollover every month minutes for a phone that my middle school daughter is now embarrassed that I use. I’m going to go get something new and slick one of these days. It’s just that now, if I want the iphone, I have to switch BACK to what is now AT&T. I swear I can’t catch a break!
Oh Spring Break of 2009 the weather tricks you play aren’t nice. It’s been so nice outside the past few days but torrential rain and the high temp of 53 for today have totally trashed my mini vacation. Hope you have a better day and watch out for ponding!!
Hi,
I have been following your blog for a few weeks now and get such a kick out of it! You are hillarious!
I think the video could have appropriately been called “Girls Gone Fishin; SB 09!”
She is so cute! I love the fact that all of her fish very “ginormous” and “really, really, REALLY” big! She is catching on to this fishermen thing, pretty well!
Laughed out loud when you were talking about your iphone…..I am right there with ya babe!
I love that other people have documentation of their delicate little flowers in wranglers and camo talking about the cat fish they caught. Gotta love TX!
I think I just found Disney Channel’s next star! She is too funny and so expressive. I love how she mentions in the end that she hopes you are happy…sweet girl! Enjoy this Texas weather…Spring Break Day 3 for Big Mama: Movie, Roller Skating or Bowling..
so cute!! Hope the rain doesn’t affect your spring break plans!
Tap the picture. Tap the curved arrow button. Tap the “email photo.” Ta da…… you’re done! You’re going to LOVE the iPhone. (except when it wigs out occasionally.)
She’s too cute! You reminded me I need to go through my cabinets too… a task I have been avoiding forever! Hope you’re able to find something fun to do on spring break day #3!
Soooo, I’ve noticed in a couple of videos (this being one and the Easy Bake flick being the other) that you somehow pull off this super cool sounding British accent on top of your Texas twang. Not quite sure how you do it, but I’m totally jealous. The EB video was actually the first video that I saw of yours. After watching it, I was convinced you were British. But then I saw your scarf video and realized you’re pure Texan.
Don’t know if you’ve been told this before, but I just thought you would get a kick out of it:)
Next time P will have to bring a freezer so that Caroline can keep the big catfish!
Ginormous, ginormous fish! Adorable.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned how you can get the picture off your phone or not… but you can text it to your email as a picture! i do it all the time! Hope it works out well for you… going to watch sweet Caroline’s video!
I LOVE “be-cept”…my (soon-to-be-nine-year-old) son still says in “puh-tween”!
)
Ugh … your make up bag sounds like mine!
Weird weather everywhere, we had the coldest March 10th EVER recorded yesterday with -52! HUH? No fishing around these parts.
Love your blog!
Oh, yes. What’s spring break if you don’t get to throw back a ginormous catfish or two?
WHAT?? The hot pink razr is still not in style?? Oh great!
Both of my kiddos say…maZAgine…instead of Magazine…I love it.
You nearly made me spit out my oatmeal with that iphone thing! you’re so freaking hilarious! I even had to read it aloud to my co-worker who was equally amused
Stay warm and dry today – I’m not looking forward to the nastiness that is our weather either!
My cell phone is more than 5 years old and I only use it for CALLS. I don’t take photos, surf the net, play games, or anything. The ring sounds like it was recorded on a Casio keyboard in 1982. I never, ever want a different phone, either!
My kids are 12 and 17 and don’t have cell phones! When they eventually get them, the phones will not do anything except calls either. Why? Because I loaned my daughter my cell phone a couple of years ago when I was in Kazakhstan adopting my son, and she ran up $1800 worth of charges on it in 3 weeks! I nearly had a cow! And Verizon was awful about it. I hate Verizon. // Now you know why I hate cell phones!
Oh, and your baby is so adorable!! I need to take more video of my two…
I’m still rockin’ a pink Razr too.
I think it’s very important that she wanted to be sure that YOU had a good time and wanted to be happy! Hilarious!
P.S. She must have had SO much fun!
Oh, you are too funny, Big Mama! “never come to pass” Ha, ha!
I’m glad Caroline likes to fish. Uh, what’s a cork? Yeah, had to put it back because you didn’t have a freezer. Riiiiight. I get it. Wink, wink.
Regarding your phone, I have a Razr too and I use a USB cord to download pictures.
Where else can the girls go from pretty and sparkly to fishing, hunting, and camo.
God bless Texas.
And God bless your precious little girl…
)
You have made Granny’s day! Just loved getting to see and hear all about the fishing trip. Love the videos!
just came to get my laughter fix for the day…you crack me up. And my dear Aidan loves Cream of Wheat…he is six and up until last year he called it “Queen of Eat” Poor guy, he’s my last so I can’t bring myself to correct him cause it’s so darn cute…He still to this day says that someone is “at sleep” instead of “asleep”…I’m sure I’m doing him no favors! He’ll be 28 and asking his lovely wife, “Are you at sleep honey?”
Caroline is so adorable…and looks so much like you!
okay. that just made my day.
i’m gonna count that as my spring “break” 09. thnx.
She is just too cute!!!
I’m two hours south of you in CC and we don’t have spring break until next week. But we ALWAYS have a cold front and rain come through during that week. Here’s hoping we get at least a little sunshine next week.
Seriously. What is up with this weather??? Only is San Antonio is it 85 and sunny one day and 45 with torrential rains the next.
Hope you and Caroline find some fabulous indoor activities.
Did you know that the Pioneer Woman has graphic/link in her side bar for your website?! Woohoo!!!
LOL LOL LOL!!!! Are you sure she isn’t my hubby’s grand-daughter??? I’m just sayin’ – - – the way she loves to fish, she MUST be related to us.
How cute! Have you tried emailing the photo to yourself? I have to do that on the occasion my camera is not strapped to my person.
Good Lord, that child is cute. And she just wanted you to have a good time.
Someday she’ll get big and realize that, to a mama, being alone to look through lip gloss is actually a day of perfection
OMGosh! I wish I had one third of that energy!
I think it’s great that she got to spend some father/daughter time with her daddy – and you got a bit of a break!
Adorable =)
The leaf-blower story is pretty funny.
Razr’s Unite! Ya’ll forgive me – we would KILL for 50 degrees, since our temps had been in the 40′s and dipped back to single digits with sub zero windchills last night. Spring break is a week and half away – and I’d just like to be able to go outside without getting frostbite. . .and yes I know we’ve made the choice not to move to a warmer area – but the family’s all here, and that is pretty important.
I, too, still have the pink razr… I would love all the newfangled gadgets, just can’t afford them. I also have the cheapest cell phone plan.
Oh look, two squirrels! I love her attention span, or lack thereof. So funny.
I have lipgloss issues. Same thing. Lots and lots of lipglosses that I have to dig through to get to the ONE I use daily. WHY must I keep them?
She is so precious!
My hubby is on a fishing trip at this moment and I think he should have taken my 3 or 2 or even 1! I predict they would have a “ginormous” time!
I think about Great Aunt Fina quite a lot. Is that strange? Or, strangeT? I try to imitate her in my head and I’ve found her lots of rockin’ jackets in the Chicco’s catalog that comes to my home for reasons I do not know.
Happy Spring Break!
I TOTALLY feel your pain about the leaf blower. My next door neighbors have this weird obsession with blowing the leaves off of their driveway TWICE. A. DAY. No lie.
I suppose I really shouldn’t make fun, since the guy is in a wheelchair. Maybe the leaves get caught in his wheels and burn them up.
However, when Ali was taking two naps, it NEVER, EVER failed that the twice a day leaf blowing was ALWAYS during BOTH of her naps.
Now that she’s down to one nap, the game is oh-so-much easier for them – they have two shots to hit it!
I like the word “ginormas”.
She makes me think of my son because if you cut of his hands and arms he would probably be unable to speak….and yes he gets it honest from a long line of “visual speakers”. hahaha
My girls say be-cept also… along with be-piano and be-puter… so cute!!! She is so cute!!
I don’t know how to download pictures off my pink razr phone either. It’s disturbing. And now everyone I know is on to their fancy schmancy phones and treat me like a slow person carrying an antique phone.
She is adorable!
I’m not sure how you are SUPPOSED to get pictures off of the phone, but I do it like this: act like you are going to send it as a text message (or multimedia message or whatever that is). Then, you know how you can change from ABC to Abc to abc to 123? change to abc and type in your email address. It will send the picture to your email!
Also, I am a Texas girl but I live in California (my husband’s in the army). There is definitely a rash of tank tops with scarves around here. This morning, at the bagel shop, there was a girl in a strapless shirt and a scarf. What’s that about???
I’m thinking she said “butt-cept!” lol!
P.S. I love your blog and read it often. No pressure, but you make me laugh so hard! I also love that you mentioned MOPS in one of your post…I feel like it’s a hidden gem for moms of young kids!
Loved the video. Caroline is just too darn cute in her camo and pigtails. I dressed like that when I was her age.
We lived on a farm and rode our four wheeler through our “10 foot hole”. I thought that was the best!
