This really got to me! I have sponsored children through Compassion for over 20 years now and have lived in other countries and have seen first-hand what you are talking about. However, I am ashamed to say I have not taken the time to write to my child for a long time. Thank you for encouraging me to do that today and reminding me what joy/hope/encouragement it can bring to a child that is hurting. I read your post with tears falling and a heart that aches and also feeling guilt for being so blessed. It's a fine line to try to walk. Again, thank you! What if we followed the literal words of Christ (take care of the widows of the orphans, give to charity, sell your possessions). I feel like Compassion is a great way to do just that! I also read about Ree's family on Pioneer Woman. Those people touch my heart - I have read about the Compassion Project and it is a deep desire in my heart to one day be part of it. I've traveled quite a bit - and a couple of years ago to Egypt.. when you see other cultures living like that - and usually living Happily... it's just mind blowing, and eye opening and touches your heart like nothing else can.
