The princess and the pedicure

July 22, 2009

Yesterday I introduced Caroline to one of the best parts of being a girl.

The pedicure.

IMG_6955

Of course I’ve never had a pedicure complete with my own personal DVD player and a wide array of DVD’s to choose from.

I’ve also never had flowers painted on my big toes.

IMG_6996

Frankly, I feel a little ripped off.

She is absolutely PRECIOUS! Congrats on your first pedicure, cutie! I can hardly wait to take my DD for hers! Until then, Daddy paints her toes :)

2 Traci July 22, 2009 at 5:31 am

How fun they have a little set up for kids! She is adorable and I love the flowers on her toes:).

3 Amanda @ Serenity Now July 22, 2009 at 7:13 am

I can’t let my 3 year old see your pictures today or she’s going to feel ripped off too…she has to settle for sub par pedicures a la Daddy. I’ve never seen a kid’s chair like that–pretty cool! :)

4 Michelle July 22, 2009 at 7:18 am

How fun is that!?!?

And here I thought I was all “mother of the year” with our home spa nights. I could never top this!

5 Annie July 22, 2009 at 7:32 am

Check out the teddy bear chair…

6 Jennifer July 22, 2009 at 7:37 am

that is definitely a milestone in a young girls life :o )

my question is:

what kind of salon has a ‘kid chair’ & dvd player?
i’ve never seen anything like it!!!

i do admit — i’ve had flowers on my toes before — ONLY ONCE;
and i was so ‘CHAWED’ (special shout out to kelly’s korner) – ha ha ha!!

7 Jessica July 22, 2009 at 7:38 am

How fun! I confess I got my first flowers on my big toes this year at almost 30. I felt like a kid!

8 Jill July 22, 2009 at 7:39 am

That kid’s spa chair is the coolest thing! Heck, I’m 26 (I just typed 24, omg what is happening to me)…and I never saw anything like that back in my day! Now I feel ripped off. I might like one of those *NOW*

9 Ceridwen July 22, 2009 at 7:46 am

For real! What a set-up!

10 kerry @ colored with memories July 22, 2009 at 7:47 am

you know that you’ve started a habit with her now, right? we’ll y’all be going weekly or biweekly? ;)

my mom just got her first pedi last month! can you imagine? she’ll be 60 next week!

11 kerry @ colored with memories July 22, 2009 at 7:48 am

*will* y’all not *we’ll* y’all. i guess i wanted to include myself in your future pedicure ventures!

12 kerry@colored with memories July 22, 2009 at 7:50 am

*will* y’all not *we’ll* y’all. i guess i wanted to include myself in your future pedicure ventures!

13 Tara G. July 22, 2009 at 7:53 am

Oh. My. Word. Where do I go to get a set-up like that!?!??

14 Traci@totalmomsense July 22, 2009 at 8:00 am

But you get to sit in the colorful bear chair right?

15 Lauren July 22, 2009 at 8:13 am

ok, that chair is just freaky. There’s two at the nail salon I go to. I prefer to stick with my chairs that have the back rubbers, thank you. But seeing that makes me want a pedicure now!

Good job at getting that habit started now :D

16 Tammie July 22, 2009 at 8:13 am

I was 25 when I got my first pedi. You are a rockin mom.
And yeah, the flowers? way cool.

17 Lauren Kelly July 22, 2009 at 8:17 am

Oh my word, how fun, and I would totally be feeling ripped off too, haha!!!!! :)

18 Kelly July 22, 2009 at 8:27 am

SO fun!! I’ve never seen a set up like that for kids!
I can’t wait to do that with Harper one day!

19 Ruthie July 22, 2009 at 8:33 am

Too cute! Where on earth is a Salon with a kid-friendly pedicure station? My daughter would LOVE that!

Ruthie

20 Kerri C July 22, 2009 at 8:36 am

Yikes…the bear chair is a little creepy, no? However, I’m sure she had so much fun! Cute!

21 Amy July 22, 2009 at 8:47 am

Little miss is livin’ large, now, isn’t she? My daughter loves the pedicure hot seat. She even squealed when her Grammy mentioned they might get one this weekend. And I think she might have mentioned Justice in the same text. It’s fantastic being a girl!!!

22 Courtney July 22, 2009 at 8:50 am

I am so jealous I didn’t have that growing up! You are a great mom!

23 Pennie July 22, 2009 at 8:59 am

I’m 42, and I’ve never had a pedicure! :-(

24 Darla July 22, 2009 at 9:19 am

Gosh…and to think of all those years I hired a babysitter so I could go and have a pedicure and read my People in peace. If only Houston had had a bear chair!!

25 Lee @ foodie plus 4 July 22, 2009 at 9:19 am

Genius marketing – this salon knows where it’s at.

26 AmazingGreis July 22, 2009 at 9:34 am

I get flowers all the time. LOL

Love the bear chair and DVD player. I’ll need to talk to my spa about adding those to my pedicure experience. LOL

27 Heather July 22, 2009 at 9:58 am

Well, I thought we were way behind the times here in small town MO, but after reading all the comments on the kiddie chair, I realize we’re way ahead of some. My Mom, who’s past 60 yo, just got her first pedi right before Mother’s Day. My sister, daughter, and myself went with her, and our salon had 3 of those chairs! My DD is 13 and didn’t get to use one, but she did get beautiful flowers on her toes! And, yes, I believe you’ve probably created a pedi monster! ;)

28 Dandy July 22, 2009 at 9:59 am

Um, is that a pedicure chair designed especially for kids!?

29 Marty July 22, 2009 at 10:17 am

I’ve never actually seen a chair like that.

30 Keyona July 22, 2009 at 10:18 am

Girls her age have it so good nowadays! Hmph.

31 Sarah July 22, 2009 at 10:37 am

Pedicures are one of the best parts of being a girl. I count down the days until my monthly pedicure!

32 Vicki July 22, 2009 at 10:37 am

You are one fun mama!

33 Chelsea July 22, 2009 at 10:45 am

Check out that chair! I have never seen anything like that! I love mother/daughter pedi trips. My mom and I still go eveyr Christmas and get snowflakes on our red toes!

34 Melanie July 22, 2009 at 10:49 am

But do they have a tree stand and Cabella’s for P?? ;>)

35 Jennifer July 22, 2009 at 11:03 am

That is totally cool. I’ve never seen a kids chair in a salon. I wanted to take Baby Girl to get her toes done, but I’m scared she won’t be able to sit still for it.

36 Kelly July 22, 2009 at 11:08 am

ok–I HAVE to know where that is. Is it a chain? Or, some specialty pedicure spot only Texans can enjoy?

37 Nicole July 22, 2009 at 11:11 am

Oh that chair is creepy but the flowers are Sa-weeeet! It’s never too early to learn about good foot care. ;)

38 Mama Belle July 22, 2009 at 11:16 am

Now, my girls ask for pedicures. The nerve.

There were no pedicures when I was a child, just clippers. And I was OK with that. Well, there was polish. Heck, I’m not that old.

39 Branalyn July 22, 2009 at 11:31 am

Oh the flowers on the big toes is fun! I do that many times! And snowmen in winter. If I go to get a pedi, I go all out!

40 Hayley July 22, 2009 at 11:44 am

Who thought about inventing the “bear chair” for girls? Very cute – and smart! – idea!! A girls got to have a pedi, no matter how young or old :)

41 Kelly @ Love Well July 22, 2009 at 11:54 am

I’m stunned you’ve never gotten flowers on your toes. What’s the point of a pedicure if not flowers with a faux jewel in the center?

My daughter was three when she got her first pedicure. (In my defense, it was for my sister’s wedding, and it was the the bride’s idea, and we all know you don’t cross a bridge on her wedding week.)

As usual in California, the nail shop was staffed almost entirely by sweet Vietnamese women. They were delighted to do Natalie’s toes, and they kept trying to ask her questions (with thick accents) to keep her engaged. And bless her little Dora-infected heart if she didn’t speak Spanish back to them. “Hola!” “Lo hicimos.”

42 Dawn July 22, 2009 at 11:55 am

wow! a pedicure experience obviously aimed at young girls…

my 13 year old already asks for pedis regularly…she doesn’t get them much, but she asks…

43 Angela Conklin July 22, 2009 at 12:03 pm

We are a little behind times here…I’ve never seen one of those chairs!! Amazing!!

44 Cydney July 22, 2009 at 1:23 pm

How fun was that!

45 shayla July 22, 2009 at 2:29 pm

so fun! my daughters (4 yr and 2yr) love them too. do you have a sweet and sassy there? she would really like that and they cute hair too though it might put you over the edge. go visit one and you’ll see why. ;)

46 Married to an Aussie in OK July 22, 2009 at 2:45 pm

Yikes. My daughter would absolutely poo purple monkeys of excitement to get to have a pedicure. It’s a neat idea. Don’t like the chair, but I bet I could still find someone to paint my wee girl’s nails!

47 Becky@oursweetpeas July 22, 2009 at 3:20 pm

Seriously, what was up with parents in the 80′s? I agree we may have gotten a bit ripped off ;)

48 Mary Virginia Grandle July 22, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Flowers on her toes! Life doesn’t get much better than that!

49 Julie From Inmates July 22, 2009 at 4:01 pm

I have never seen a pedicure chair like that. How cute!!!

50 marcy July 22, 2009 at 5:09 pm

That is an absolutely adorable picture, but I’m surprised that a germ-phobe such as yourself does the pedi thing. Most places don’t empty out the water basin all the way.

51 Margaret July 22, 2009 at 5:24 pm

I’m 63 and had flowers on my toes for a trip to the beach. I love a pedicure. One way to spoil myself.

52 Brooke July 22, 2009 at 6:13 pm

Okay that is soo sweet of you.. and ahem why when I use to get them didn’t I ever get the video and cute wee flowers….

53 Halala Mama July 22, 2009 at 6:40 pm

But the chair? Have you been allowed to sit in that chair?? :)

54 Jonell July 22, 2009 at 6:54 pm

I think it’s precious..but at the risk of being booed off the site may I suggest something.
It’s quite likely that little princess will always remember a parent or grandparent doing her nails more so than the spa pedicure w all the trimmings.
I had a “manicure” the first time when I was 60ish and in the last 3 years have had a spa pedicure maybe 3 times.OOOOOOOO it is such a delicious decadent treat..too bad it just costs too much for this gramma to do regularly :^(

55 Jeannette July 22, 2009 at 8:16 pm

I just met up with five other ladies early yesterday morning for a group pedicure. We had so much fun.

56 Teri July 22, 2009 at 8:47 pm

2 yrs ago, I took my daughter for her first pedicure as her 5th b-day gift. She absolutely loved the whole process, especially the massage chair. She laughed the whole time the chair was massaging

After 2 boys, it is so much fun sharing the girly stuff. But, we only get them about once a year.

I have to know where you took her. I just go to a salon on Bulverde Rd, and K has to slide down in the chair for her feet to reach. Although if the chair doesn’t massage, she might not like it

57 Shelly the Chic Crafty Chick July 22, 2009 at 9:36 pm

Ok, I’m officially jealous I don’t have a girl. Looks like y’all had fun. So cute.

58 LoveFeast Table July 23, 2009 at 12:39 am

I did my own nails for my wedding day…now 18 years later, my 4th child, who is 5 has been getting real pedicures with her mama and big sis, since she was at least three! Her sister didn’t have one until elementary school. But, we B-Bunch girls love a little night out, especially before vacation. It’s more fun to be together, than to wait for a wedding. Ha! :) -Chris Ann

59 momof8 July 23, 2009 at 10:22 am

You know, I was thinking of going in for my first ever pedicure, but that pink head on the chair is scaring me.

60 Heather July 23, 2009 at 2:08 pm

LOVE IT!!! I am getting ready to introduce it to Emma as well. Fun times!

61 Mari July 23, 2009 at 7:11 pm

her toes are so cute. i took my 14 year old niece who was out visiting from las vegas and we had a blast at the salon getting nails and toes. i go every other week and this was her first visit–she loved it. so fun. so girly.

63 maddy July 24, 2009 at 9:13 am

That is the cutest! I had my hubby install a new Pedicure Massage Chair this past spring. I think I know what the next step will be.Either that of a new Vichy Massage Table.

65 Nicole West August 25, 2009 at 6:59 pm

I love that chair! It’s so cute. What’s the name of the place you took her to to get her nails done?
