This and that and the other

October 15, 2009

There are a few different things I’d like to address and so I am going to go with the handy list format, otherwise known as the lazy bloggers answer to midnight writer’s block.

1. I cannot even express my joy over how much y’all share my love of the occasional fast food item. I’d like to think Monday was a day that caused sales at Sonic and McDonald’s to skyrocket as we all indulged our cravings.

Also, I feel that I owe a huge apology to two fast food establishments for leaving them off my list. How could I forget my love of Long John Silver’s fish and chips covered in malt vinegar sauce? My only excuse is that the one near our house closed down and is now just another local taco shop. Because San Antonio really needed another one since we only have 846 of them already.

And Dairy Queen. The Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard is on my list of perfect foods. It’s got calcium, protein and chocolate. All the basic nutrients a girl needs to survive PMS or just a road trip to Houston.

2. Several of you have asked about the trip to Memphis. Sophie and I write for LifeWay on their Allaccess blog and occasionally we get to go on trips and then write about them. In fact, Sophie wrote a great post about the Memphis trip on Monday and you can read it here.

3. Every now and then I tend to get these ulcer-type things in my mouth. A few months ago, Mimi showed me an article that said L Lysine supplements are supposed to keep you from getting them. I’d kind of forgotten about it until I found myself on the vitamin aisle at the store the other day and I bought some.

You know why the L Lysine keeps you from getting ulcers and cold sores? Because the pills are so dang big that you’ll choke to death if you try to swallow one. I wish I had a picture to show you, but I don’t because that would have required effort.

4. Gulley is looking for new bedding for her bedroom. We have searched high and low, but can’t find the right thing. And by the right thing, I mean something that’s not floral or looks like the same tired Ralph Lauren bedding circa 1992. If you know of a great place to find bedding, I’d love it if you’d share.

5. Caroline and I were in the car yesterday and she said, “Mama, when you get dressed up for a wedding or a party, you always look so pretty!”

“Thank you, baby. You know what?”

“What?”

“I think you’re beautiful all the time.”

“Of course I am. Why wouldn’t I be?”

Bless her heart. She just has barely an ounce of self-esteem.

See y’all tomorrow for Fashion Friday.

Crate and Barrel have contemporary bedding if she’s into that style. Then there is always Pottery Barn if she’s able to pay a fortune! Good Luck :-)

2 J. Johnson October 15, 2009 at 5:13 am

Recently we redecorated my daughter’s room, and she wanted “modern” bedding. After looking in every place relatively close by that sold bedding, I turned to the internet. We ended up buying the perfect bedding on Ebay from King Linen, an Ebay store.

3 Mindy October 15, 2009 at 5:33 am

I’ve always had success at Penney’s. My Mom (who loves to browse for a bargain) can find great linen items at TJ Maxx or Marshalls.

4 Kim October 15, 2009 at 5:36 am

I just take the lysine occasionally now (as needed) but back in the day when I had a terrible time with fever blisters the pharmacist told me about lysine. He said to take it every day as a preventative measure and if I felt one coming on (which you do, it’s a terrible nasty tingly feeling) to take a handful. Several times that day. Ugh. Yes they are horse pills but THEY WORK.

I took one lysine a day for YEARS. Literally. I think maybe seven, eight years? A really, really LONG time. Then I gradually started weaning myself off (sounds like they’re addictive and they’re not; but my body had gotten used to having a certain amount of lysine and when it didn’t get it, the fever blisters threatened to come back). Anyway, went from one-a-day to one every other day for a while, then every third day… You get the picture. Eventually I had stopped taking any on a regular basis.

But you can bet I keep a bottle on hand for those odd occasions when I feel that terrible nasty tingly feeling, when I pop six or eight right away, then another 4 a few hours later. Swallowing horse pills is infinitely preferable to big ugly painful fever blisters!

5 Michelle October 15, 2009 at 5:59 am

Can you crush a few of those pills up and toss them in a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard? Just thinking outside of the box!

So here is what came to mind when I read about Caroline’s answer. It is so important that our young girls know and believe they are beautiful. My husband tells our little girl every night before she falls asleep that she is beautiful (and smart, funny, strong, etc)…..his reason is not only because he truly knows she is,…but because when the first bonehead guy comes around and tells her that, she’ll be saying/thinking “yeah, yeah, I know….is that all you’ve got?”

But, considering she has three older brothers, I am pretty sure she won’t be dating until she is 23 anyway.

6 Kelly October 15, 2009 at 6:20 am

Tell Caroline to watch Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders – Making the Team. That show will take your self esteem and shoot it right down the tubes every time.
(or maybe it’s just me)

7 Jamie October 15, 2009 at 6:35 am

Tee hee on the self esteem. :)

I just bought my 7-year-old a brown leopard quilt on clearance from Company Store Kids. I like their things….good quality. She’s finally outgrown her sweet Waverly paper dolls bedding (she’s been bugging me for a while.) I’m makin’ her wait until Christmas, though, for the room redo. Any way I can’t handle total leopard so it’s fairly subtle. You know as far as leopard goes. (I bought solid pale pink sheets to go with it.)

8 Julie From Inmates October 15, 2009 at 6:40 am

So why not take the Lysine with a Reese Cup Blizzard chaser? Sounds like a perfectly acceptable way to down the horse-like pill. I hate fever blisters. I mean HATE them with a passion. I get them periodically throughout the winter. I have found that applying Abreva to the tingle the VERY second I feel it, it will fend it off. It still takes awhile to go away, but it takes care of the tingle and the fat lip. I’ve decided they are of the devil. If swallowing the horse and the pill is what it takes, then, I’ll try it!

Oh, and your Caroline sounds like a great gal! I’d love to meet her sometime. =)

9 Jennifer October 15, 2009 at 6:42 am

You are cracking me up! I am with Kim above, I just take a handful when I feel a cold sore coming on, and it always works! Those suckers are huge, My throat feels clogged, scratched and gaggy just thinking about. I mean you can feel each individual pill travel down to your stomach! FYI- I have only made the mistake once thinking I could take a handful all at one time, what can I say I was young!

10 Erin Ward October 15, 2009 at 6:44 am

Can you believe that I’ve never had a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard? This must be fixed.

11 rhonda October 15, 2009 at 7:01 am

Ya’ll are really gonna have to build her up so she has some confidnce for those teen years!;) Have a great day! (Of course you will now have to move past the thought of your kid becoming a teen).

12 Emily D October 15, 2009 at 7:03 am

I am in the same predicament as Gully. I found some bedding I really like from Pottery Barn, but I am still looking because I can’t bring myself to throw down the cash just yet. The pattern I like is called Simone. Tell her to check it out.
Once again, Caroline cracks me up! Thanks for a nice morning laugh!

13 Stacy October 15, 2009 at 7:07 am

IKEA!!! They’re cheap so you can buy two and switch them out!! :)

14 Kelley October 15, 2009 at 7:07 am

I am all about Macy’s for bedding. They have excellent sales and I’m all about some sales.
Also, I must say that if you must mention DQ, then I have to give a shout out and a big ‘ole AMEN to the Girl Scout Mint Chocolate Cookie Blizzard…perfection in a cup.

15 Makila October 15, 2009 at 7:08 am

I’ve taken the L Lysine too! SO HUGE!

About the bedding, good luck. I’ve been looking too and really find nothing. And if I do find something it cost more than a car, or my daughter’s entire year of preschool tuition.

:) Have a great day!

16 Melanie October 15, 2009 at 7:10 am

first, the Reese’s Blizzard is the best food of all time!

second, I love some of the bedding at Kohl’s…especially the Daisy Fuentes line. very classy stuff.

17 Patti Young October 15, 2009 at 7:20 am

This is going to ‘sound’ like a strange place to get bedding but check out Restoration Hardware. They have some beautiful stuff. http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/index.jsp

18 Amanda @ Serenity Now October 15, 2009 at 7:27 am

A Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard is up at the top of my list of best desserts (that you can buy anyways)! There’s a Dairy Queen just a mile or so down the road from us…that’s just not even fair.

I hope Caroline holds onto her sense of self-esteem. :) A compliment from my oldest always makes me feel so much better about myself. :)

19 Jennie October 15, 2009 at 7:35 am

You don’t know how many days I have to work to keep from going to DQ for a Blizzard. Butterfinger. Double Butterfinger. Yeah, that’s right. Double ingredients. Double your Reese’s next time. Heaven! And more protein!

I did not leave a comment the other day, but I am currently fast-food-hooked on a Wendy’s ninety-nine cent crispy chicken sandwich, small chili (don’t eat the beans) and a Coke. We also recently bought one of those Halloween Frosty coupon books for a dollar, so I chase the chicken and chili with that cute little six ounce Frosty. Guess where I’m going for lunch.

20 Jan Ross October 15, 2009 at 7:37 am

Wasn’t lysine the stuff the dinosaurs had to have in Jurassic Park?

It is! I just checked THE GOOGLE.

God. I can’t believe I can remember that and yet I can’t, at this moment, find my glasses.

21 Heather BC October 15, 2009 at 7:40 am

So weird… My husband was just telling me about being canker-sore free since April while I stepped away from the computer for a minute, I came back and read about your troubles. He tried lysine and some other things – the thing that worked was a toothpaste called biotene. Good luck with your bedding search!

22 Dawn October 15, 2009 at 7:41 am

Looks like Caroline needs a lift in the self esteem department :) What is a girl to do?

I also have to agree with Kelley, GS Thin Mint blizzard, LOVE them!

23 Jessica October 15, 2009 at 7:47 am

Some brands of toothpaste include an ingredient called SLS that can aggravate cold sores. Sensodyne does not include this ingredient. My husband gets the colds sores frequently, but since he switched to using only the Sensodyne toothpaste, he has only got one in the past year or so. See the below link.

http://www.dentist.net/sls-free-toothpaste.asp

24 Kelly October 15, 2009 at 7:51 am

Love Reese’s Cup Blizzard, my all time fav!
I agreen on the Lysine, every time I have to take them I feel the same way (like I’m going to choke)! Oddly they remind me of these weird roach bait tablets that used to be on the floor in this old place we went to the beach at when I was little….YUCK! I hate taking Lysine!

Check out Pottery Barn, I think they have the best choices….just buy the main decorative pieces there and then check Target and Tj Max, Ross….see if they have anything that can save some money to complete the bedding! Good luck!

25 wanda October 15, 2009 at 7:57 am

L Lysine is magical for the mouth booboo’s.

Believe it or not….they make it in a capsule (not all of them are that giant dry chalky monster thing!).
You have to look everywhere. When I find them…I scarf em up.

They really do work!

26 Melanie October 15, 2009 at 7:59 am

I, too, suffer from the canker sores, like, all the time. Find a toothpaste that does not contain sodium laurel sulfate (SLS). It is found in most toothpastes, so you will have quite a search. Rembrandt makes one, though, labeled either “sensitive” or “canker sores”. Since I started using it, the number of sores has decreased dramatically!

28 Mrs. A October 15, 2009 at 8:17 am

Pottery Barn!!

29 Suburban Princess October 15, 2009 at 8:23 am

Now I need DQ!!!

30 Ashlee October 15, 2009 at 8:24 am

Your little girl says the cutest things!

I just saw a friends new bedding and it came from JCPenney. Could not believe it. It was a light turquoise with a chocolate brown design. ADORABLE!

31 Jane October 15, 2009 at 8:24 am

I looked for quite some time for new bedding…I finally found exactly what I wanted at JC Penney and that was after looking at Pottery Barn, Bed Bath and Beyond, Dilllard’s, Macy’s and every other store that you can imagine.

32 Kristen October 15, 2009 at 8:31 am

I second the Restoration Hardware suggestion! They have some great stuff, but it can be expensive. Another great option is Overstock.com. They have some really nice bedding for great prices!

33 Brandy October 15, 2009 at 8:31 am

I didn’t get a chance to read through all of the comments, but I would suggest Kohls or Target for cute bedding. Also Pottery Barn (I found a great duvet cover on sale there).

34 Morgan October 15, 2009 at 8:45 am

I’ve gotten all of my bedding at JC Penney. It’s reasonably priced, and they always have some beautiful pieces.

Right now, they are having their Fall Home Sale and you can get 10% off of items that are already on sale!

35 Melissa October 15, 2009 at 8:45 am

Warm Biscuit Bedding Company…amazing bedding!

36 Jessica October 15, 2009 at 8:54 am

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Blizzards are SO good! I drive 25 miles to get one every time I have a craving. There aren’t many DQ’s left around here. …and don’t even think that the Resse’s Pieces will satisfy that craving. They didn’t have Peanut Butter Cups one day and it just wasn’t the same. I call now before I head out there. Now THAT is pathetic, huh? :)

I’m not sure if Gulley is looking to spend a lot on her bedding; however, this is one of my faves. http://www.redotheroom.com/
They have TONS of choices and you can mix & match so you don’t get tired of the exact same thing for years on end. (Or am I the only one that keeps the same bedding for that long?) I also like their philanthropy. Anyway, check them out when you can!

37 Stacey October 15, 2009 at 9:00 am

Pottery Barn – but who can really honestly afford it?

I got a GORGEOUS Pottery Barn set complete with a sheet set, shams, and comforter cover for super cheap on EBAY. Granted it is discontinued but it is still gorgeous. I got free shipping too.

38 Carrie October 15, 2009 at 9:10 am

You should check out Overstock.com for the bedding. I have an extremely thick mattress w/ pillowtop and had the hardest time finding decent sheets with deep enough pockets to fit. I not only found greats sheet SELECTIONS at great prices; I also found a mattress protector to fit that wasn’t all plastic/crinkly as well.

Good luck with the horse pills. I tend to just toss large pills back with a big glass of ice tea.

39 Julie October 15, 2009 at 9:11 am

Here is my cure. For sores inside your mouth mix benadryl and milk of magnesia(a 1 to 1 mixture) and gargle with it 3-4 times a day. It helps get rid of the sore and numbs it for a while.Sounds gross but it works! For fever blisters on your lips, when you first begin to feel the tingle, put alcohol on a cotton ball (or toilet paper if you’re like me and don’t have toilet paper around)and leave it on for a while. I usually walk around the house with it between my lips, until the kids laugh at me!

40 sarah October 15, 2009 at 9:14 am

I love the flannel sheets and bedding from Lands End…course it is only 43 degrees in Virginia right now, so you may not want to bother with the flannel…

My current obsession is Wendy’s double stacks or chili and baked potato. I could eat there every day.

41 Angie October 15, 2009 at 9:15 am

I love Bed, Bath and Beyond bedding. I don’t always love the price but they usually have a great selection. Looking forward to Fashion Friday even if only to keep my adult head focused on clothing other than the latest Miley leggings and Hannah backpacks. (not that there is anything wrong with those – hehe)

42 Becca October 15, 2009 at 9:17 am

Caroline is about my favorite person ever. She just cracks me up :-)

43 shayla October 15, 2009 at 9:23 am

For bedding try JCPenney, Z Gallerie and Walmart. I actually bought our guest bedding from Walmart and it looks great! I have bought bedding from the other 2 as well without any floral motif. Happy shopping!

44 Erika October 15, 2009 at 9:27 am

I have a very difficult time finding bedding that I like…I hate 99% of the bedding out there. I just ordered the Retro Chic in Neutral from JC Penny yesterday. I really like it.

http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6E.aspx?DeptID=59474&CatID=65575&GrpTyp=ENS&ItemID=168bed3&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CMID=59474|61635&Fltr=&Srt=&QL=F&IND=2&cmVirtualCat=&CmCatId=59474|61635|65575&mscssid=65746481c14e94fd4a723c9b388e85324xMnVNoVzayoxMnVNoVzayW200BDC795733256287B0BDE8B41E5A64C6F50928719

45 Erika October 15, 2009 at 9:28 am

Sorry for that ugly broken link, lol. :)

46 Lemonade Makin' Mama October 15, 2009 at 9:33 am

I got the most amazing bedding at Garnet Hill. It’s even husband approved!! They have a few collections that make a girl want to whip out credit cards from the freezer. (Yes, I keep my cards on ice. Which only presents a problem when my girlfriends come over and put the dang thing in a cup of ice. Oh, they think it’s hilarious, but how am I supposed to hit the One Day sale at Macy’s when I’ve got to defrost a credit card? Ask yourself that please.)

Good luck with the mouth ulcer. I used to break them into pieces, and just rub the crushed tablet on the sore. No idea if that worked. Just sharing.

47 Whitney October 15, 2009 at 9:33 am

Ahh…I love picking out new bedding. I’ve actually done VERY well with Target. It’s not super expensive and it looks modern. You sometimes have to get creative, but I love their stuff.

If she’s willing to spend more $$, I love Dwell’s lines. Also Overstock.

48 Darci October 15, 2009 at 9:43 am

I’m with the comments on the sls in toothpaste. we pay a whoppin’ $8 per tube of toothpaste for my husband, but he doesn’t get sores anymore…it’s worth it. he won’t kiss me when he has them!

49 joyce October 15, 2009 at 9:50 am

I’m looking forward to the bedding answers…I’ve been looking since July and still haven’t settled on anything. I saw one I liked alot in the Restoration Hardware catalog but when I totaled it up it was about $800 which seemed excessive even to me.

I almost spur of the moment bought a shabby chic thing at Target the other day…I’ve go back and forth on that one every time I’m in there but I know I don’t really want it and the color is sligthly off with my paint so not sure why I keep putting it in my cart and then putting it back.

My husband said its getting cold and can I please make up my mind? Did I mention that I’m in that stage of life where being too cold when I sleep is most definitely not an issue for me? I

50 Mama Bub October 15, 2009 at 9:53 am

Anthropologie for bedding! Yes, some of it is floral, but not your mama’s floral.

51 KK October 15, 2009 at 10:03 am

I second the emotion re: Overstock.com Here’s the direct link to their bedding… http://www.overstock.com/bedding/29/store.html

Now… if someone could just help drive ppl to my mommy blog too… hmmmm… :)

52 k&c's mom October 15, 2009 at 10:04 am

Steinmart (s) has wonderful bedding that is different from other stores…

53 Laura October 15, 2009 at 10:04 am

Go to Stein Mart(s) for the bedding! I got the cutest set for my guest bedroom and LOVE it!!

54 Kelly October 15, 2009 at 10:06 am

I, too, get the dreaded ulcers and cold sores. I have started taking one zinc tablet and one Vit. D every day. Forget the multivitamin. And, if a cold sore does get you, as soon as is starts put on some Zovirax (I think its Rx). I also rinse regularly with that listerine mouthwash but it burns the holy heck out of my mouth, so it probably doesn’t have time to do its job. As all my bedding came from JC Penney (pronounced by my kids as JC Penn-aayyy) or Walmart I can’t help you there.

55 Hillary @ The Other Mama October 15, 2009 at 10:07 am

A well known fact is that I get the herpes. The lip kind, you’ll be happy to know. And my mama always made me choke down those dang L-Lysine horse pills and swore they helped. They did not. But I haven’t heard about them helping with ulcers.
I say go to Dairy Queen to numb the pain. :)

56 Amy October 15, 2009 at 10:20 am

Ooooo… I got a new Ballard Designs magazine in the mail this week and saw a beautiful new bedding set that wasn’t too masculine, but not floral either. On top of that, its reasonably priced.

http://www.ballarddesigns.com/Linens-Fabrics/Bedding/Canter-Bedding/p/11530?path=1%2C2%2C1465%2C1507%2C0&iProductID=11530

I am currently salivating over this…and it just became eligible for free shipping!

58 Betsey October 15, 2009 at 10:33 am

I have taken L Lysine for years…cured my on-going issue with caker sore…I took it every day (1000mg) for years)…until I read on-going use of it can have a potential side effect of something…I think it was kidney stones…but I had always heard if you take it everyday for a year or so, it will decrease your frequency of outbreaks over your lifetime? At first taking a smaller dose didn’t seem to work, but the 1000mg did. Now, I just take a bunch when I feel one coming on, but honestly, I don’t think I have had one over a year or more…I used to get them OFTEN! Good Luck!

59 Traci@TotalMomsense October 15, 2009 at 10:44 am

Okay two things – one for the mouth ulcers- take TUMS- the ulcers are from acid in your stomach- chewing a couple of TUMS each day will take care of it and give you some calcium, well, if you get the TUMS with calcium. Much easier to swallow than horse pills.

Two- I just bought bedding from JC Penney’s of all places. I usually have it made, but I was looking through House Beautiful and there was an ad for Cindy Crawford’s new line- and it’s really pretty. I am so surprised by this, and have to admit I felt a little like I was buying a dress from the Jaclyn Smith line for a moment, but it was reasonably priced and well made and pretty. THis way- if I get tired of it in a year or two I won’t feel so bad about replacing it- or maybe I’ll go seasonal or something. I’ll shut up now, I’ve practically written a whole post here. Happy Thursday!

60 aimee October 15, 2009 at 10:48 am

First, I LOVE your blog! :)
Second, I get ulcers in my mouth, too, but I figured out that it coincides with eating walnuts and sometimes pecans. Any chance you recently had something with walnuts? Like brownies? Cookies? :) Good luck!

61 Courtney October 15, 2009 at 10:53 am

I used to get mouth ulcers too. Someone told me about Rembrandt Canker Sore toothpaste. I started using it several years ago. I’ve honestly had maybe 2 ulcers in the last 3 years!!! It can be hard to find. I get it at Target….but since they moved your Target.(what is it 7 minutes away?)I’d check in the closest drug store! No sense in driving ALL THE WAY OVER to Target!! :-)
I’m looking for bedding too. Carlie just cannot understand why I haven’t already bought the peace sign bedding from Pottery Barn that she showed me last week!! Somehow I’ve resisted.

62 DeeAura October 15, 2009 at 10:57 am

Okay, I was introduced to your blog a few weeks ago, and I just have to say it makes me laugh every time. Or it makes me feel like “You know, life isn’t so bad today…” because if I don’t laugh, I’m lifted. So I just wanted to say thank you! Also, Caroline: don’t ever lose that confidence. Your ounce of self-esteem was my first laugh this morning. ;)

63 Trish Roberts October 15, 2009 at 12:00 pm

First I want to thank you so much for the post yesterday. My niece had asked my opinion on a job opportunity. The message we received was confirmation of just what I said. She even shed a tear @ realizing that God loves us so much he-he’s got our back right? & check out Brylane Homes they have really good stuff(some of it) at good prices. I purchased several things from them(600 count sheets) & have been pleased w/them all. Thank you for sharing your life.Tupelo Ms

64 Cyndi October 15, 2009 at 12:26 pm

My son has similar self-esteem issues. Sunday before church he was admiring himself in the mirror and asked me, “Have you ever noticed that I look AWESOME in church clothes?”

65 Courtney October 15, 2009 at 12:32 pm

I have found great bedding at Kohls, Bed Bath & Beyond and sometimes even Target. I’m in New York though so I don’t know how helpful that is! Hey at least you won’t have to worry about self-esteem with her….well at least right now!

66 SHIRLIE T. October 15, 2009 at 12:35 pm

THE REASON L LYCINE WORKS IS BECAUSE IT IS AN AMINO ACID, PART OF THE PROTEIN COMPONENTS, SO IT’S PERFECTLY NATURAL. I KNOW IT WORKS BECAUSE THE ONLY TIME I GOT A COLD SORE WAS WHEN I QUIT TAKING IT AND ENDED UP GETTING A TERRIBLE COLD SORE IN MY RIGHT SALIVA GLAND. (THAT WAS SCARY AND EXTREMELY PAINFUL. SO TAKE YOUR L LYCINE.

67 Nicole October 15, 2009 at 1:02 pm

OK, the Dairy Queen (or DQ as we lovingly call it here) is my BIGGEST WEAKNESS!!! We have a drive-thru about 3 miles away and it’s open late. Now, that’s just not right. And bedding, I am in a love-hate relationship with bedding. Nothing seems to feel exactly right. It’s like going after that mystic unicorn. HA-HA! Good luck with your cold sore. My hubby gets them and it sounds VERY painful.

68 leah October 15, 2009 at 1:26 pm

My Lord! Malt Vinegar … fish … Long John’s. I think I may pass out. Love it so much!
Back when I was child-bearing age (I still am I think, but that phrase amuses me), I would drive two towns and 20 minutes away to a really sketchy neighborhood where the closest Long John’s was. It was so amazing.
Another time, I asked my husband to get it for me on his way home. He brought it in and they had forgotten the Malt Vinegar. I CRIED! Real tears!
So I bought my very own bottle and it sits in my pantry today!
Lysine does work by the way. Go to a health food store and you may be able to find a smaller pill.

69 Married to an Aussie in OK October 15, 2009 at 1:26 pm

Amazon OR Walmart.com. Not kidding. There is some great bedding on either site. My MIL is still drooling over my bedspread that I got from the Walmart site… and I typically despise Walmart.

Strawberry cheesequake blizzard at Dairy Queen in my favorite! My husband says that Dairy Queen is his first love.

71 Angie October 15, 2009 at 2:44 pm

I took L Lysine for several years, since I used to get ulcers when I was younger (I always had 2 or 3 in my mouth–not fun when you want to eat something with salt!!) and every time I got a scratch in my mouth or bit my lip, it would turn in to a huge ulcer.
Although I had to psyche myself up to swallow the mongoso pills, the L Lysine did work. I took it faithfully for a couple of years and they gradually stopped appearing after a couple of months. When I stopped taking the pills (out of laziness–I ran out one time and forgot to ever get another bottle) the ulcers didn’t come back. I rarely get them now. It’s great.

Get yourself a pill cutter and half that horse pill. Mouth ulcers are the worst!

I love that Caroline.

Another vote for Macy’s Home Store. They’re also online if you don’t have one nearby. Calvin Klein and DKNY always tempt me when I go in there.

I’ve gotten canker sores my whole life. Maybe one, maybe seven at a time. Carried baby anbesol in my pocket to even be able to eat or talk. I took Lysine for almost a year and saw not one improvement. Finally a doctor suggested I cut out juice (Ilovejuice!) to see if lowering the acid intake into my system helped. I cut out juice 2 years ago (with the exception of the occasional caramel-apple-spice from Starbucks) and have not had a canker sore in almost as long!!!

If the Lysine doesn’t work for ya, try cutting out juice.
Best O’ Luck!

Try using sls free toothpaste! It helps reduce the occurance of mouth ulcers. Rembrandt makes one that you can sometimes find at cvs or walgreens!

Walmart carries the L Lysine in smallish pills. Target has great bedding and so does Penneys and Macy’s and there are great sales right now. Bed Bath & Beyond has nice stuff too but it is expensive.

Next time you have an appt, ask the Dr for a RX for Valtrex. It works very well, you take it when you feel it coming and then maybe one the next day. My sores are usually stress related (like when the inlaws are coming for a MONTH!!) I always make sure they write on the RX that it is for cold sores! Wouldn’t want any rumors!!

I have to agree on the Macy’s Penneys, and Overstock. In fact, I am about to order one from Overstock, I have a magazine with a $10 off coupon in it… ;)

So with you on Long John Silvers covered with malt vinegar! And my teenage daughter is hooked. And we have to get those crumbs/cracklins’. We actually just had LJS this past Sunday on our way to the mall. It’s not right near us, but we always know when we’re headed in that direction there’s always a stop by LJS!

Our little hometown is getting a Hardee’s. Yes, just what we need another hamburger place to go with the 10 (seems like your 846) already here!

Check out Horchows for great bedding

I just want you to know that I had Taco Bell today and twittered that to you. What I failed to mention is that I had only $4 and scored big time!!! Thank you Lord for 79 cent menu items. ;)

84 Melanie October 15, 2009 at 10:09 pm

I’ve taken Lysine. It works but you have to take it every day. HORSE PILLS.

Try Rembrandt toothpaste for canker sores. It lacks an ingredient that makes some people prone to mouth sores. It helps a lot.

I love Anthropologie bedding!

86 Claudia October 15, 2009 at 11:00 pm

She might want to try http://www.linensource.com. They have some nice pieces. And may I just say, your Caroline cracks me up!

87 Melissa October 15, 2009 at 11:21 pm

You might want to just look into to an antioxidant formula..it will have the lysine in it. Antioxidants fight off free radicals and in a nutshell they can help boost your immune system as well as give your skin a healthy glow! That darn TX sun ;) As for the bedding: Overstock, Amazon, Kohl’s, Tarjet, the Walmarts, and the always social experiment of a store IKEA. HA!

I love the bedding I have gotten from TJ Maxx. And they do offer lay away as well.

My mom has found awesome bargains there like the queen size laura ashley comf/curtains/sheets/etc etc…something like 15 pieces and by the time she paid for the whole set she spent 30$ and 14 of that was on the comforter and bed skirt.

Just wanted to say that it’s a huge testament to her daddy’s love in her life that she knows she is beautiful with such confidence. Praise the Lord for fathers like that.

1. definitely get rembrandt’s canker sore toothpaste! i used to get sores every time i’d bite myself when eating (…don’t know) or get even the tiniest of abrasions. it has helped significantly!!!!
2. i discovered a product called “canker cover”. i keep it on hand just in case i happen to actually GET a sore, which is rare. it is like a disc-shaped pill that you hold on the sore for 30 seconds until it attaches itself (with your spit, i guess, hehe). if you use it when you VERY first start to get one, it works! you have to leave it on for 8-12 hours, so it’s good to do before bed and leave on all night. it becomes a gel, completely covers the sore, and dissolves by itself. tastes like mint, kinda gross when it gets gooey, but i am sold on these. they’ve worked for me 100% of the time in the rare occasion that i get a sore. thanks to the toothpaste, i hardly get them anymore!
3. bedding – west elm has AMAZING bedding. it’s expensive, but oh my gosh i love it. we have the pintuck duvet cover in white, and i’m head over heels. :)

Try The Company Store. They have quality stuff, and the fitted sheets are made really deep so they stay on really well, even with a kid’s wriggling around :)

92 Shannon October 17, 2009 at 11:45 pm

Yes, the L-Lysine really works. You know what else works (and this is gross)…swishing out your mouth with Maalox, just like it’s mouthwash. Don’t swallow, just swish (as long as you can) and spit. And when you’re done, your teeth will have a lovely, chalky, minty white coating. Ugh. (But it really works).

93 Amber October 17, 2009 at 11:57 pm

L Lysine really does work for mouth ulcers! I’m a dental hygiene student and I recommend it to patients. Another hygiene student at school gets ulcers all the time and started taking it. She NEVER gets them anymore unless she forgets to take it. The giant horse pills are totally worth the effort!

94 Shannon October 18, 2009 at 6:43 pm

Anthropologie of course!

95 Donna Norton October 19, 2009 at 11:24 am

if you place a small aspirin right on the spot where the ulser is, it will cause it to stop hurting instantly! and will also help the ulser to clear up. (p.s. not the coated aspirin, but uncoated) (p.s.s. washing the taste of the disolved aspirin out of the mouth afterwards is a little gaggy, but well worth the pain relief!)

I love bedding from West Elm. Beautiful!
