Fresh from heaven

October 20, 2009

A few mornings ago the weather had finally cooled off a little and so I decided to walk Caroline to school. As we walked down the street side by side, she looked at me with a serious look and asked, “Mama, what does heaven look like? I used to remember because I’d just been there, but now it’s been a long time and I can’t remember anymore.”

Oh, my heart.

I replied, “Well, God sits on a throne that looks like it’s surrounded by a rainbow. There are beautiful jewels everywhere, streets of gold and a sea of glass where God has thrown all our sins. Angels bow down and say ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty’ and there’s no more sadness or tears ever again.”

She stopped walking and looked at me for a few seconds before she said, “Wow, Mama! It’s even better than I remembered!”

And then my heart officially exploded into a million pieces.

The end.

That is a moment that you will NEVER forget. When my grandson was around 5 (he is 13 now and still has an old soul) he said “Nana if God kept all of the tears that have ever been cried how many days would it rain?”
God Bless, Pam, South Bend

Faith like a child;) My oldest asked me the other day what happens if you are never born? I think I would rather field the heaven question!

So sweet! My middle child….constantly talked about heaven when she was little. It used to pretty much freak me out.

She would dream about how wonderful heaven was and long for it. Weird, huh?

The heart of a child is an amazing thing. I pray that I could see and love like that.

14 Lorie October 20, 2009 at 7:49 am

47 Carlisa October 20, 2009 at 9:39 am

Okay, let’s get one thing straight. I read this blog to LAUGH, not cry. Isn’t it crazy how kids do this? My children have taught me more about God and myself than I could’ve learned in a lifetime without them.

48 Julie D October 20, 2009 at 9:43 am

It’s funny how when you are having a bad day; that a girl you never met-can add some sunshine to your day! Tell your daughter thanks!!

53 Abby October 20, 2009 at 10:08 am

I ask you, is there anything more wonderful in the world than the sweet words of our children?

54 Tammie October 20, 2009 at 10:24 am

Can I just tell you how glad I am to hear that I am NOT the only child in the world who claims to remember Heaven and who swore on a stack of Bible that God showed me who my family was before he sent me to them?
Seriously, I feel vindicated.

55 The Beaver Bunch October 20, 2009 at 10:28 am

61 jobie October 20, 2009 at 11:26 am

I’ve just spent a very fun morning at work with a group of loving first graders so Im all gooey anyway. But that slayed me!! Caroline has such a special perspective that I’m glad you share!! Thank you!
Loved your description of Heaven. You left out my favorite part from Memphis, though – the two gold bowls!!

83 Kimberly October 20, 2009 at 10:34 pm

Oh my word, how precious is that?

84 Nancy October 20, 2009 at 10:52 pm

Thanks for sharing this . . . I needed to read it, and just forwarded it to some friends. We’d been praying for a very sick 7-year-old boy who went to heaven last week. Right now he’s getting to find out that it’s all true!

85 Marie October 20, 2009 at 11:11 pm

You are not the only one who thinks you have a very special girl. That was remarkable. One day I would like to just sit and listen to her. It’s amazing!

And especially since she can also shoot guns and all that other girly stuff she does! LOL

Hugs,
Marie in Minnesota

86 Jennifer October 21, 2009 at 6:14 am

Love it, love it, love it!

87 Nancy October 21, 2009 at 7:37 am

Do you make this stuff up?! Precious!!!

I’m always telling my husband that I want to marry the little 6-yr-old boy next door. He’s very mature for his age and quite a little gentleman. When I showed my husband the picture of Caroline w/the javelina he said, “I want to marry that girl!”

88 Jennie October 21, 2009 at 8:55 am

She used to remember because she had just been there!!! That is the best thing ever. A friend of mine used to talk about how our kids knew each other from before they were born, when they were first in heaven. But to hear it from a child…wow…that just makes it real. Beautiful!

89 Amanda October 21, 2009 at 9:25 am

amazing! no wonder Jesus commanded us to have faith like that of a child!

90 Bethany October 21, 2009 at 10:27 am

My kids (2 and 4) talk about missing heaven all the time… it really makes me wonder– do they remember being there? Can’t wait to see it myself! Come, Lord Jesus!

91 Joanna October 21, 2009 at 10:57 am

Mercy! That girl is something else.

92 Angie October 21, 2009 at 12:29 pm

That instantly brought me to tears. I could blame it on my pneumonia or PMS, but I think I’ll blame it on you having a tender-hearted little girl.

Much sweeter than mine who told me that burping’s just not as funny when her sister’s not around to laugh at it.

*sigh*

93 Minnesotamom October 21, 2009 at 12:38 pm

That is unbelievably sweet…

94 Juice October 21, 2009 at 4:00 pm
