Kind of sad that so many are still trying to put that limitation on this wonderful country that ALL of our ancestors fought so hard to be a part of and so many came to to avoid religious prejudice. Just Sayin'... My father was presented with one at his father's funeral (my grandfather was a WWII vet) and this post has given a whole new meaning to that memory. I know that without them, we would not be free and I would not be living MY life without worry during this hard time for military members, friends and families. I don't think that people shouldn't learn about the representations of the flag, and I'm not saying I do not care. It's just my opinion that God, prayer, and ALL religion for that matter (well, not if you're going to teach about it) needs to be left out of public schools. And then I thought, but I teach in a public school that was recently scrutinized because of a prayer that was said, so I wouldn't be able to do a program like that... which is sad to me. I am glad Caroline goes to school that allowed that. It is important to remember the principles our country is based upon.
