Frank and cents

December 10, 2009

Last night Caroline informed me she’d like to make a little video about Christmas. It seems that she had some important information she needed to share.

Some Christmas Facts from Big Mama on Vimeo.

Just a few things:

1. When she says she “has a little one” in her class, she’s referring to a friend who is actually only about an inch shorter and doesn’t really just come up to Caroline’s midsection.

2. “My, my, my”? Am I raising my great aunt Maddie?

3. I love that Christmas movies have ” a little bit of a lesson in them”. Who says television isn’t educational?

4. The apparel of the wise men is so crucial to the miracle of Christmas. I’m glad she knows that information because it makes up for the fact that she just made up some stuff about the tree symbolizing the hay in the manger.

5. I don’t know that my accent has ever been stronger than when I say the word “bank” at the end of the video.

I guess if I had any sense, I’d know it isn’t a three syllable word.

Did she say she’s in the Young Democrats??

She preparing to run for something soon?

2 Krista December 10, 2009 at 3:53 am

She is so cute. My sister has those PJs, too. I’m pretty sure the best part of this was her describe what those crazy ol’ wise men were wearing. :)

3 *~Michelle~* December 10, 2009 at 6:55 am

OK, not sure if it was the “my, my, my” or her accent throughout that melted my heart more.

She is truly a blessing!

ps. love the deer mounted in the background. The only thing missing is a Santa hat on him. ;)

4 Monica December 10, 2009 at 7:03 am

2 words… Doll, face!

5 Amanda December 10, 2009 at 7:20 am

haha…the ‘my, my, my’ is perfect!

and her little accent kills me – super cute :)

6 Liz December 10, 2009 at 7:22 am

My, my, my, that tree is fabulous!

And so is Caroline!

7 Kelly December 10, 2009 at 7:25 am

Love it. Two things captivated me… first, the fact that despite her teetering near the tree you didn’t repeatedly shirek “Careful!” as I tend to do, and 2. the deer seems completely focused on the star.

This is cute, cute, cute, and the perfect way to start the day:-)

8 Pam December 10, 2009 at 7:27 am

precious…..Precious….PRECIOUS!!!

9 Cindy December 10, 2009 at 7:32 am

Apparently its all little girls who can’t stand still while trying to have a converstation. Now if I can just figure out the smelling thing.

10 Katie December 10, 2009 at 7:38 am

I want to get those pj’s! I hope I can find a pair in super tall gangly woman. So adorable – but I totally want to know what’s she’s eating!

11 Terry in Indiana December 10, 2009 at 7:40 am

Priceless! Amazing what goes on inside their little minds! And yours and Caroline’s southern accents are charming! My, my, my!!! Thanks for sharing!

12 Jennifer December 10, 2009 at 7:40 am

And bah.nnn.kkk is the very reason I don’t do vlogs. :)

13 Julie December 10, 2009 at 8:27 am

This is so cute! She is full of personality. Caroline and my daughter Emily(6) would get along great. :)

14 Jessica December 10, 2009 at 8:38 am

What an eloquent little speaaker! I love listening to her. Christmas just makes more sense when spoken from the mouth of a 6-year old!

15 Terry December 10, 2009 at 9:01 am

Oh, yippee! A “Caroline” video! What a lovely way to start the day!

And your tree, by the way, is beautiful!

16 Traci@TotalMomsense December 10, 2009 at 9:02 am

Just makes me smile. :)

17 Ann December 10, 2009 at 9:02 am

She’s adorable. Did the wise men spend a little time at Bath and Bodyworks? And the deer is the ultimate TX touch. Too cute!

18 Rena December 10, 2009 at 9:03 am

You found your media empire after all!

YOU DO HAVE ‘CENTS’!

19 sarah December 10, 2009 at 9:05 am

Your daughter is so adorable. Kids are so wise.

Your tree is fabulous! nicely done.

20 Joanie December 10, 2009 at 9:11 am

This post made my morning. Caroline is hilarious as are you!

21 Shelly December 10, 2009 at 9:12 am

I just about died when she is talking about the star and you move the camera up. My husband is also a Great Outdoorsman from Texas and I have two “beautiful” deer mounts on my wall also I have since delegated them to the “office” room. We have two more heads to mount that
he and my son have shot this year. From one hunters wife to another. Merry Christmas.

22 Jan @ Little Glimpse December 10, 2009 at 9:15 am

I have always wanted to move to the south just for the accent. Instead I get “Oh, Yaahh, you betcha” and get to freeeeeze my behind off up here in the artic (otherwise known as Minnesota). Don’t you wish you could have tape running 24/7 on the kids because they can be SO insightful. Love the video!

23 Jen December 10, 2009 at 9:15 am

This is perfect! I loved it…how precious is she?!?!

24 momof8 December 10, 2009 at 9:15 am

My, my, my, she is precious!

25 rhonda December 10, 2009 at 9:20 am

Very cute. If you come up with any tips for decorating deer mounts please let me know. Right now mine are supoorting ever so festive neck ties;)

26 Lauren Kelly December 10, 2009 at 9:28 am

She is positively the cutest thing EVER!!!!!!

Beautiful tree!!!! :)

27 JSanchez December 10, 2009 at 9:43 am

Love this, we have to see more video’s of Caroline and all she has to say! I am laughing reading everyone’s comments about her accent, I heard yours but didnt notice hers…but I am from Texas so I guess that is why :)

28 Robyn (3girlsmom) December 10, 2009 at 10:06 am

1. I need you to tell little missy that I have a cousin, Megan, who was born on Christmas day. So technically, Caroline is just two little steps of separation from a real live person who shares the birthday of our Lord and Savior.

2. Please put a Santa hat or a wreath or SOMETHING CHRISTMASSY on that deer. And you call yourself a Texan. Wait, decorating dead animals might be an Alabama thing…..

3. My, my, my? Favorite part of the video. Hands down.

4. I didn’t even notice the exaggerated AAAA in Bank. Why? Because I’m from Alabama. That’s why.

Love ya, girl.

29 Stephanie(ocean mommy) December 10, 2009 at 10:07 am

Precious. :)

At least she wants to talk, my girls have choreographed a “little dance number” to jingle bell rock that they want me to put on my blog…. my, my, my….

Have a great day!
steph.

30 Shannon December 10, 2009 at 10:08 am

Favorite = “btind”

31 Annette Standrod December 10, 2009 at 10:18 am

Awesome!

32 Jaime December 10, 2009 at 10:26 am

my, my, my … Adorable.
1. However, I am not sure that “bank” is the most accented word … I thought “mmm-kaaay” was a little more indicative of your geographic nature. Being southern at heart, but transplanted in Colorado – I notice these things. and it is precisely why you won’t hear me on my blog. :D
2. I agree … if the deer stays, he needs some festive attire.

33 Amber December 10, 2009 at 10:26 am

Too precious!

And “bank” sounded just fine to me… but then again, I named my son Sam but constantly catch my self pronouncing it, “Say-yum”… Nice! Reminds me of my former employer who called me “Aay-yum-buah!”

34 Becca December 10, 2009 at 10:35 am

I love when you post videos of her — I mean not in a creepy way – but she just cracks me up :-)

35 Sunni December 10, 2009 at 10:40 am

Can I tell you how much I love that the wisemen brought sense to Jesus?

36 abby December 10, 2009 at 10:56 am

I really enjoyed the animal head (deer?) (not sure what it was…can you tell I’m not from Texas?) on the wall overlooking the tree. He kinda looked like he was protecting the ornaments:) Kinda like you’re own little “Elf on a shelf”.

37 Married to an Aussie in OK December 10, 2009 at 11:07 am

LOL I also enjoyed the deer. He needs a Santa hat. And Caroline is wonderful. Even my son watched. He’s 7. And yes, he’d dwarf her. He’s 4.5 feet tall. ;)

38 Amy R December 10, 2009 at 11:09 am

My nephew referred to the wise men as “those three wise guys”…too funny!!

Great video
Amy

39 Lindsey December 10, 2009 at 11:20 am

That girl really knows her stuff! I love it! And if you can tell me where this bank is to get sense out of, I could probably use some too. ;)

40 Chelsea December 10, 2009 at 11:28 am

I love your girl! She makes me less scared about the possibility of having girls!

41 Jessica December 10, 2009 at 11:28 am

That was too cute! and what? bank isn’t a three syllable word?

42 Chelsea December 10, 2009 at 11:28 am

Oh glory, please don’t dress the deer. It’s bad enough the poor thing met an untimely death, so let’s not humiliate him posthumously. I do love how he’s gazing at your tree, though.

43 Cydney December 10, 2009 at 12:03 pm

I absolutely love this. You can just see the wheels spinning…I think that is why they can’t be still…EVER.

What was she eating by the way?

44 Mama Chris December 10, 2009 at 12:11 pm

I LOVE her!!! She can came stay up here in the northern midwest at my house anydayoftheweek….
1.go for the rudolph nose on the tree-guard–absolutely necessary
2.fashion sense is a must for any genteel southern belle that says my,my,my
3.hug Caroline–from all of your readers–she is a gem.
God Bless!!

45 Sue Speir December 10, 2009 at 1:16 pm

When my daughter was 6 she kept insisting a girl in her class was 4. I was so puzzled until I helped in the classroom and met her. The little girl was really short … so Susannah assumed she must be only 4! Kids crack me up.

I loved the video and especially the “my,my,my”!!
Yours is the only blog that I read the comments, because your readers (present company excluded) make me smile. Robyn talking about dressing up a dead animal and Kelly saying the deer is focused on the star. They make me laugh out loud.

I know I sound like a broken record, but please cherish your time with Caroline at Christmas. My four kids are in their 20′s and Christmas is NOT the same with grown children. (Maybe that is what is so great about grandbabies)?

Caroline is precious. Thanks for sharing!

46 Lynsey December 10, 2009 at 2:11 pm

She is such a doll! And when she started talking about the three wise men’s apparel I started crying laughing! Fashion is important no matter who you are, I guess.

Y’all have a Merry Christmas!!

Sincerely,
A Fellow Texan and Aggie.

47 jenna December 10, 2009 at 2:28 pm

How Funny!! She is so creative! I couldn’t help but laugh outloud!

48 Courtney December 10, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Adorable!!
Carlie is all hung up on the “everyone is older than me” thing too!
Loved the wise men “Caroline Report”!
I guess it’s because I’m a Bama girl….but I don’t hear the accent.
Well maybe when you said “bank”! ha ha! just kidding!

49 Amanda @ Serenity Now December 10, 2009 at 2:47 pm

She needs her own blog. ;) Love her pjs!!!!

50 Laura December 10, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Your voice totally sounds like Sandra Bullock’s, has anyone ever told you that?

51 rrmama December 10, 2009 at 2:58 pm

To cute! Caroline is precious!

52 The Beaver Bunch December 10, 2009 at 3:53 pm

I’m so glad someone else’s kid says, “be-tend” instead of “pretend.” Does she also say she “be-got” stuff? Like, I “be-got” my shoes outside. (forgot)

Just curious.

53 Pam December 10, 2009 at 5:12 pm

I have watched thie THREE times to …just to make me smile….thank
you….thank Caroline

54 Cathy Davis December 10, 2009 at 5:21 pm

I haven’t seen C in a LONG TIME and she’s growing up so fast! Wow!

55 mia December 10, 2009 at 6:28 pm

THE cutest video. Ever. Love her and can’t wait to see what she grows up to be.

You are so definitely abundantly blessed. Amen :)

56 gitz December 10, 2009 at 6:37 pm

I want a southern accent. seriously. I think it would allow me to get away with so much more of what I say :)

57 Lorinda December 10, 2009 at 7:15 pm

Golly, please do dress up the deer – he is looking a bit lonely!

I love Caroline – she just cracks me up. So precious…

58 k&c's mom December 10, 2009 at 7:28 pm

Love the deer in the background of the tree. Nothing says Christmas in Texas like a buck mounted near the Christmas tree. Maybe you should tie red bows on each point. (I’m sure P would LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that!)

59 Christine December 10, 2009 at 8:08 pm

Hahahaha oh my my my! that’s cute! lol – Um I LOVE the idea of putting a santa hat on the buck in the background, that would really just complete the Texas Holiday picture LOL … Maybe I can find some really small ones and put them on the ducks mounted in my hallway ;-)

60 hannah royall December 10, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Let’s not forget to point out the deer on the wall behind you. If it helps- I was raised in a home where we had not a star on the top of our tree but a lasso. I repeat, a LASSO!

61 Aunt Rhody December 10, 2009 at 11:36 pm

Muffin and I are laughing, calling her “firstborn”. The oldest of our four daughters spoke very authoritatively also. Still does.

62 Mary @ Giving Up on Perfect December 11, 2009 at 9:47 am

I just love that your Christmas tree is right next to a deer head. :)

63 allyson December 11, 2009 at 1:52 pm

what a cute, cute video!!

64 Karen December 11, 2009 at 3:51 pm

I, too, love that the camera never got up to see the star, but did show off the deer head mounted on the wall. My dad had two in our rec room growing up!

65 Kelly December 11, 2009 at 4:25 pm

Love it;) She’s so cute and I love the southern accents, being from the north an’all;)

66 AngAk December 11, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Cents? ya suppose she’s thinking about cents that you have to go to the bank for? Or is it that scents are so darn expensive you have to go to the bank first? and then there is sense. does this make any sense?? lovely post.

67 Sarah M December 12, 2009 at 4:44 pm

i think I’ve watched this 3 times (no, I’m not a stalker–but the part where she says, “My, my, my” just cracks me up every time!) Thanks for sharing :) I’m pretty sure if I taped my kiddos, they would be fighting/arguing…not so very festive

68 Pam December 12, 2009 at 4:49 pm

So cute! This reminded me of the time I found a bunch of pennies inside our nativity set at Christmas. When I asked the kids why they were there, my then 4-year-old son said, “Because that wise man named Frank brought those cents for Baby Jesus.”

69 Melanie December 14, 2009 at 7:37 am

your daughter is amazing. hysterical. And I oftentimes share her antics with my husband. I refer to her as, “Little Caroline, the girl with the pink gun.” :D

70 Elisabeth December 15, 2009 at 6:38 pm

i love this!! your blog posts are always great, but i must admit the Caroline videos are my favorites. =) i love the accents (from SC myself, so i’m sure mine would shine through as well), and C reminds me of myself when i was that age. just ask my mom.

=)
