I really can’t thank you enough for answering so many of my questions yesterday. Sometimes a girl just needs some input on important things like hair color and underwire.
You’ll be glad to know (That’s probably overstating it. Chances are good you’re not really going to care one way or the other.) that I’ve decided to get the jeans hemmed to wear with flats and flip-flops. It seems like the right choice given the time of year and the fact that I have a few other pairs of jeans that I can wear with heels. Plus they were only $30.
(For those of you who asked, I found them at a boutique that was going out of business and bought the last pair in my size. Trust me, I tried with all my might to be a different size in order to acquire more bargain-priced jeans but my efforts proved fruitless. And kind of painful.)
I also downloaded a few new apps for my phone and have reconciled that I might have to sacrifice some wrinkle prevention in favor of some color on my face this summer.
The turkey is still in the back yard.
Mocking me.
Anyway, it was a little hard to come up with material for today’s Fashion Friday because I am in the midst of a full-blown obsession. FULL-BLOWN.
About a week ago, I decided that I might want to paint my kitchen a kicky shade of turquoise. I can’t really explain why, but it just feels right in my soul. I waited a few days to mention it to anyone because I thought the feeling might pass. However, my obsession only grew and I found myself googling “turquoise rooms” and looking at paint chips. Then, last night, I mentioned it to Sophie and she told me I had her full support for Project Turquoise.
And then I mentioned it to P and he asked if I was going to hang some neon beer signs in the kitchen, convert one of the windows to a drive-through, and start serving bean and cheese tacos.
He is hilarious.
My thought is that it’s just paint. If I hate it then I can paint over it and laugh about that one time I was dumb enough to think I wanted a turquoise kitchen. I’ll keep you posted on the matter. And if you happen to know a great shade of turquoise paint that says “Tasteful and trendy” as opposed to “Bean and Cheese Tacos only 99 Cents”, please let me know.
I’m envisioning something along these lines.
Okay, other than turquoise paint chips, here are a few great things I’ve seen this week.
I know not everyone is a fan of the ruffled tank thing, but this one is so cute that you might change your mind. It’s thirty-one flavors of adorable.
2. Linen-blend Boyfriend Shirt
The website says that these shirts are $24.50, but they’re on sale in the stores for $12.00 and they come in a delightful array of colors, including turquoise. It’s the perfect shirt to wear alone or to layer over a tank top.
Sam Moon, the home of cheap jewelry, is now selling Big Buddha handbags. I’m a big fan of the Big Buddha bags and really love this one, but don’t know if I’m really meant to own a white bag. It feels a little bit like tempting fate to rain down cherry-colored Kool-Aid.
4. One Shoulder Side Ruffle Dress
I don’t have anywhere to wear this dress, but maybe you do.
I also love this knit top with rosettes in the black or the yellow.
The only thing better than a comfortable t-shirt is a comfortable t-shirt with a little something extra.
I realized the other day that I have a few outfits that could really benefit from a pair of cute shoes in the silver/pewter/metallic category. I have some silver flip-flops, but I wanted something with a heel. My chances of finding what I was looking for didn’t seem great because I figured most heeled shoes in the silver family would be dressier than what I wanted. But I was wrong.
Pewter/silver/metallic shoes are everywhere. It’s a shoe revolution and I almost missed it.
I love these wedge sandals
And these sandals are really pretty if I didn’t need something with a heel. They’d look great with summer dresses though.
7. Bamboo Shoes
Speaking of something that would look cute with summer dresses and really anything else, I love these flip-flops by Bamboo. Best of all, they’re only $20.00 and come in a wide variety of colors.
You’ll notice that I featured the turquoise.
Shocking.
Y’all have a great Friday.

i am going through a turquoise room painting obsession, too! i was JUST thinking that my kitchen needs to be turquoise or green! LOL!
I love that gap shirt you linked too…the one shoulder dress, not such a fan. turquoise flip flops are too cute.
love your tips! keep them coming, and let us know if you find that perfect shade. i’ve been hanging paint chips in my kitchen for weeks…
love,

I’m obsessed with painting my new kitchen turquoise to!!
The problem? My kitchen/dining room are 1 room. The dining room has a chair rail, and I plan on painting chocolate brown from the chair rail down. I think that’ll look fine. However, my dining room and living room are kind of cohesive as well… and I have NO IDEA what color to paint my living room. Except I know I don’t want yellow. And I know I want it to be light and airy. And it needs to match red, maybe, eventually. I don’t know.
But I wanna paint my kitchen turquoise.
of course, this made me think of you! maybe it will lead to some inspiration…

I’m pretty sure Fashion Friday next week should just focus on handbags. It’s almost my birthday, and I don’t get really adventurous with clothes, so it would make my almost-27-year-old-handbag-coveting-heart so joyous to see an entire post devoted to bags.
Thank you. The end.
LOVE the turquoise room idea! I’ve seen a couple of dining rooms that are robin’s egg blue/light turquoise and it’s beautiful!
You know it’s the color of the year for 2010. Anyway, have you been to this blog? http://www.houseofturquoise.com/ If not go check it out. Talk about a turquoise obsession!
I love the flowing tier tank. It would be cute with white jeans.
Check out Restoration Hardware’s Silver Sage paint. It’s a little softer than turquoise, but it might be a close choice.
Thanks for sharing!

Yes he is. But he should only worry if you go yellow in the ;iving room and purple some where else. Then it might be time to be concerned.
Okay, how in the world did I not know about Sam Moon? I think you may have just started a new obsession for me. Cheap, cute jewelry? Be still my heart.
Turquoise kitchen sounds lovely! I’ve been wanting to paint E’s bathroom that color. I saw a Benjamin Moore color in a magazine the other day called “Mexicali Turquoise”. It might’ve been Southern Living? P will especially love the name!
LOVE that dress! The link didn’t work for me though, could you tell me where it’s from? Also, I am in full support of your Tasteful Turquoise kitchen. Of course, then again, my wedding color was Tiffany Blue, so I’m a tad obsessed with the color. So go for it, if you hate it, you’re just another paint can away from fixing it!
Turquoise, Aqua. Tomato, Tom-Aaa-to. I’m all about it. I want that boyfriend shirt. I could never have enough of those buttoned down linen things. With some jeans (or cream boyfriend jeans, rollled up) and a brown belt, you could conquer the world and have a successful appeal on that – whatchyoumightcallit – oh right, that health care reform nonsense. When did I start carring about politics?
Happy Friday and Praise the Lord! Hellelu-er.
One of my best friends painted her kitchen turquoise about 2 years ago and I completely and utterly fell in love with it. She wasn’t sure if she’d get tired of it, but 2 years in and she still loves it. So I say DO IT!
I like that floral appliqued tee!
I have come to love turquoise, but it has been a long, hard road for me. My Nannie, who will be 99 next month, got stuck in a decorating time warp sometime back in the mid 1970s. Her home in Northern Virginia featured white leathery vinylie furniture, white and green shag carpet, a yellow and lime green couch in one room, and deep dark turquoise carpeting in the very large living room. She also had a white Christmas tree with matching turquoise ornaments. That tree would be fabulous now, but as a kid in 1987, I was not feeling it.
So that is my story with turquoise…I love it now, and I love your inspiration picture. That’s an example of turquoise that has been updated.
Just please don’t start writing about how the UN and the “red Chinese” have troops amassed on our borders, waiting to take over America. Because then I will know you’ve been talking to Nannie, and it’s only a matter of time before you go for the turquoise carpeting.
LOVE the turquoise kitchen idea…LOVE it!! I say go for it!!!
I painted my living room turquoise and I love it:) I say go for it!
After a few different attempts to get the perfect turquoise for my daughter’s room, we ended up with ‘sea sparkle’. I’m kicking myself for not remembering the who has the actual paint chip, but we got it at Lowe’s. Not even a year ago. Maybe it’s Glidden? I don’t know, but check Lowe’s. We all say her room is the most soothing, prettiest room in the house. We love it. It’s a tad bluer than the ‘pool’ color on Pottery Barn Teen website (www.pbteen.com). Anyway, hope this helps.
I will never be able to go to Taco Villa again and not think of you and P. Good luck on that drive-thru window.
But really, I think turqouise – the right turqoise – would be lovely.
Have a great day.
Amy
DO IT! paint it! Take pictures. Start today!!!! I really hope you do it because seeing the random few videos/pictures of your kitchen I think it will look fabulous. And you are right, paint is only paint. You can always change it.
Thanks for another great Fashion Friday.
Remember when you talked about Target having Merona collection? I finally had a chance to check it out without the kids along with me. Um, I think some of the stuff is kind of cute, but I really don’t want to pay that much when at Target! I did find this
http://www.target.com/Merona-Womens-Open-Cardigan-Cream/dp/B002IWYX7Y/ref=br_1_19?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=676593011&node=676593011&sr=1-19&searchRank=pmrank&searchPage=1&searchSize=30&id=Merona%20Womens%20Open%20Cardigan%20Cream&qid=
I bought it in black and the purplish/eggplant color and thought I would bring it home to see which one I liked better. Since they were marked $19.99 each, I didn’t think I “needed” both. BUT THEN. They both rang up $4.98 each. Totally keeping both. I have no idea why they rang up that much but now I’m wishing I bought one in cream too. Ha ha.
Have fun painting! DO IT!
I work at a large telecommunications company. 7 years ago, in a fit of office improvements, the building admin came around with the entire collection of some brand’s paint chips and told me to choose my color to have my office painted. Really! While my peers were all choosing lovely shades of beige, I immediately earmarked a lovely shade of turquoise. It’s nearly the color of a Tiffany box, and looks darn near the same color as the picture you’ve posted. I’ve never regretted my decision since I spend more time sitting in my office at work than any other room. Go for it!
friend of mine has that color in her kitchen/dining room — I think of it more of a robins egg color – but its very cool, upbeat color – no clue the paint chip name tho
Can you find me some coral/orange sandals???
I was also concerned about purchasing a white bag. Anytime I wear a white shirt, I spill something! Last summer, I bought one anyway. It does get a little dirty but it’s nothing a Mr Clean Eraser could not clean. In fact, it still looks new! Go for it!
Just a note on the turquoise…. My friend painted her bathroom a gorgeous turquoise color, and it was awful! There was no natural light in the room, so it kind of looked like a circus. If you have enough natural light, I think you’d be fine.
Oh, turquoise, colors make me happy, too.
They just change my mood instantly. Is everyone affected like that?
I say, it’s only paint… do it!
OK, I think it is fate that someone else named ANNE already commented about House of Turquoise since that is precisely what I planned to do. So if I were you, I’d take that as a sign from God to go ahead, check out that blog and paint your kitchen turquoise.
http://www.houseofturquoise.com
Oh yes, and I would like extra guac with my chips and salsa.
After an unfortunate rental experience with a nasty flat seagreen-ish blu-ish color, I never thought I could have any color of turquoise on my wall– until this past Sunday. One of the young couples at our church had us over to their gorgeous newly-built home, and her kitchen was painted turquoise, with lots of silver and black accents. JUST GORGEOUS! I say go for it.
Love turquoise, love it! Painted my daughter’s playroom turquoise trimmed in white when she was young. It was the most favorite room in the house. Turquoise makes for happy happy happy. What a good way to start the day in a turquoise kitchen!
Ooo Ooo! I was checking out this great web site that continually wows me and there was a kitchen with turquoise accent! It’s on the slide show if you want to have a look. http://www.theletteredcottage.net/
I love the turquoise – my daughter’s room/bath is painted a shade very similiar!
I am getting ready to repaint my entire downstairs a very bold shade of WHITE. Can’t get the Pottery Barn catalogs out of my mind, so I’m just going for broke, hope I don’t regret that decision!
You should totally do it. I’ve been obsessed with turquoise/teal and REALLY want to paint a living room wall one of those two. Ironically, just the other day in apartment therapy they had a posting about turquoise in the kitchen!
LOVE the color you picked for the kitchen! Against the bright white it looks clean and fresh. What does P know anyway!
We interrupt the reading of this post to comment. . .
Well, “I” interrupt. . . OH! MY! LOVIN’ the beautiful living room! I might cry. I am HUGE fan of turquoise, aqua or any colors of the ocean. So beautiful, so quaint. . . so tranquil. I want to live there!
I’m off to dream of that beach cottage I’ve been longing for. And a few turquoise items of clothing.
http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/dc/turquoise-touches-in-the-kitchen-112331
SOMEONE MAY HAVE ALREADY POSTED THIS, BUT I THOUGHT OF YOU WHEN I SAW IT THIS MORNING
I did the backs of my built in shelves tuquoise and LOVE IT!!
I did it in a day when the hubs was at work. He would of said no.
I love a turquoise room! We painted our half bath and part of the nursery in our old house a great shade of turquoise. I probably have the paint name somewhere in a file. I’ll look and email it to you if I find it. You’re making me want to paint our mbath!
That’s a beautiful color. Go for it! It couldn’t possibly be worse than any kitchen painted in the 70′s. I still cringe when I see the mustard yellow wallpaper my mom used in our kitchen growing up.
I should say “when I see pictures of the mustard yellow wallpaper”. I don’t believe that wallpaper is still there. I hope not.
My kitchen is sherwin-williams “Moody blue”…. It’s in the turqouise family and is beautiful! Everyone was skeptical when I picked the color but now they are all believers. It is the one room I get the most compliments on! I think the name describes it perfectly because when the sun shines in during the day it looks more turqouise and an the evenings more blue. If you want pictures I would be happy to email some or you can look at my august 17th post: (but the quality of those photos aren’t great) http://mlpetrich.blogspot.com/2008/08/tour.html
Have you seen Edie’s cabintes (lifeongrace)? they sound like exactly what you might be looking for. They are gorgeous!
Love the color!! I accent with that color in my living/family room…For some reason I’m totally obsessed with turquoise and green together!! I say go for it!!!
Makes me want to paint everything that lovely shade of blue!! Sending hugs and prayers across the miles, friend.
I love the color turquoise, my grandmother turned me onto the color when I was younger. I painted one of our bathrooms that color and it made the small room so much larger and brighter. I say go for it, it is only a can of paint and like hair it can be re-done if you don’t like it.
I just painted my boys’ room Betsy Ross House Blue, a Valspar color from Lowes….I promptly told my husband I wanted to paint every room in the house the same color. He looked at me like I was nuts! It is the most awesome shade of Turquoise! It is on the Valspar website under Historical colors, but looks lighter in person/on the wall!
Kingston Aqua – it’s an Olympic color from Home Depot (the paint chip number is B57a…still in my purse!). I just painted my bedroom and a powder room this color and have gotten nothing but compliments!! It’s bright but not obnoxious, almost a Tiffany blue but darker. Go for the turquoise kitchen
That’s so funny! We are about to move in our new house in about a month & there is a little sewing room/nook for me & I told my husband I wanted to paint it turquoise/teal and he was like really??…I think it would be so fun! Can’t wait to see pics when you to it! & I LOVE those turquoise flip flops!
I painted my kitchen turquoise based on some Southern living kitchen containers I have and I LOVE it! I can look up the name of the paint I used and show you a picture of my kitchen if you are interested. Have fun! It is such a fun color and looks great with so much!
I may or may not be taking a trip to Sam Moon to purchase that purse. I think you may want to do the same. Embrace the white, my friend. Embrace the white.
I love your blog. This is the first time I’ve ever posted….but December, 2008, with the help of my daughter and daughter-in-law we painted my kitchen an aqua/turquoise….LOVE IT! So cheery! I say, “Do it!”
I love the picture of the room color! It doesn’t look very turquoise though. It looks more blue than blue/green. Either way I think you’d love it in your kitchen. I have my office just about that color and i’ve got all black and white pictures and decorations and it looks great! (I got the idea and color from Pottery Barn). I definately think you should find the color you like in a design magazine and then have the paint store match it for you. It’s better than buying some paint and then finding out that it look a little to fiesta-y!
The featured this turquoise kitchen in Coastal Living:
http://parkersimsinteriors.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Retro-Kitchen-from-Coastal-Living.jpg
It’s a little on the funky side, but I love it!
The sample color room you posted reads “Tiffany Blue” on my computer screen. You know, as in the the little blue box that usually has some overpriced yet beautiful bauble inside. Maybe if you start saying you want to paint your kitchen Tiffany Blue instead of turquoise, the taco jokes will end. You’ll sound a wee bit pretentious, but hey, it’s a small price to pay.
Choose a turquoise with more blues than green and you won’t be craving queso. Look forward to the pics!
You are a shoe fashion genius!
Hi there!! I didn’t read through all of the comments on your page, so someone may have mentioned this, but you must go to http://www.houseofturquoise.com !!! I too am in LOVE with turquoise and it’s just got some beautiful pics! I subscribe to it so I can get my daily dose of happy (as well as my daily dose of envy!!). This site LOVES Sherman Williams Robin’s Egg paint. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Oh MY! I am loving everything you posted! Love love the turquoise paint idea in the kitchen! That picture you posted with the white accessories–pretty pretty pretty!!! Please post after pictures! And I loved the Taco Cabana reference–hilarious!
I just painted my 17 year old daughter’s room turquoise not even two weeks ago and I absolutely love it! I used Martha Stewart’s “Sunken Pool” which came out a touch darker than I expected but I love the results. Dying to see how your kitchen turns out!
So this is my favorite day on your blog. SOOOO I kind of started something similar. If you want you can come by and check it out.
Well what was the underwire verdict?! That was the one I also needed insight about! Although last year I got a tankini that tied halter and around my back (like really a bikini except it hid my belly a little…or at least I pretended it did) and it really seemed to help even though it didn’t have underwire.
I just love how you kept the whole turquoise theme throughout this post. Let us know how your kitchen turns out.
I appreciate you posting the pictures of some items as well as the link. Makes reading easier even though you are working harder!
Your brave…very brave. But go for it! I admire the bravery!
Of course I can’t get past a beige of some sort. It’s safe…it’s neutral. And I’m OCD and couldn’t handle if things didn’t match perfectly. Well, maybe not match but “go” perfectly.
I’m starting to get a twitch thinking about it.
Moving on…love the picks for today!
http://reddirtandcrazy.blogspot.com/
Ok, I do have a place to wear that dress, we have 3 weddings to go to this summer and that is so cute, but didn’t pop up online. Dern. Secondly, have you seen clothes for kids from Garnett Hill? They have some extremely cute things for girls. Caroline and my girl Emma are the same age and they have some adorable skirts. Emma loves anything that twirls, she tries to make her shirts twirl. Anyhow, I thought you might like them for Caroline. They are so cute!!!!
I just painted my bathroom turquoise. I used Lowes Valspar paint in La Fonda Mirage. It looks fabulous!
I HAVE A TURQUOISE KITCHEN! I have had it for about 3 years and still LOVE it! I used Behr Jamaica Bay and have brown and cream accents all over with a little bit of orange to make it “pop.” The other rooms that you see when standing in my kitchen were left fairly neutral to offset the bright kitchen. They have turquoise and orange accents too.
You may have already found it, but one of my favorite turquoise sites is http://www.houseofturquoise.com/
(I too have a wee obsession with the color.)
She’s shared some absolutely amazing kitchens on her blog and they’re easy to find since she has a handy dandy index on the sidebar. The turquoise mexican kitchen might be my favorite though: http://www.houseofturquoise.com/2009/10/turquoise-mexican-kitchen.html
My sister painted her ceiling in her kitchen turqoise; kept the walls white. It looks fantastic! So – just thought I would pass along; if you don’t want to make the big plunge with the walls, think about the ceiling.
I’m a little late, but I would cut off my left arm to have a room in my house painted that color.
I think that you need this link:
