Has it been five weeks of fitness already? This has got to be some kind of personal record for me. Especially the time I’ve spent all aboard the healthy eating train. A train with limited carbs and raw almonds as my most appealing snack option.
Although I do give myself weekends off. I’m happy to announce that this weekend was filled with crispy beef taco plates, fajitas, queso, and guacamole. And the people said AMEN.
And I think that’s the key. I can make myself mind over matter the junk food addict who enjoys Gummie Sours Lifesavers and Sonic tater tots during the weekdays because I know that I get to take a break on the weekends and eat the foods of my ancestors. Assuming my ancestors ate a lot of Mexican food. Which is really highly unlikely since they were Sicilian and you never hear anyone talk about visiting Sicily for the guacamole.
As for working out, I keep waiting to LOVE it and feel all those endorphins and all that other fitness propaganda that people spew. And it hasn’t happened. I love my playlist. I love the way I feel AFTER a workout is over. But the actual running part? Not a huge fan.
But I’ve found a lot of good workouts on Pinterest that I can do in the comfort of my living room on the days I just can’t get out the door because it’s too cold or too warm or too rainy. Can anyone tell me what we used to do before Pinterest? How did I find recipes or cute clothes or obsessively daydream about all the ways I’d like to redecorate my living room.
It’s a wealth of workout suggestions that I’ve incorporated to mix things up a little bit.

Because man (or woman) cannot live by running alone.
I think that’s in the Bible.
And here’s the other gem I found on Pinterest that I look at every time I start to lose my motivation and gaze longingly at the couch.

Just last week someone told me my face looked a little thinner and I wanted to give them a prolonged hug. It was a good reminder that just because I don’t see results doesn’t mean things aren’t changing. I just see myself everyday and so it’s hard to tell.
But I know I feel better and isn’t that what really matters? Just wait until I’m sitting by the pool this summer and everyone comments on how healthy my heart looks.
It will be totally worth all the sacrifices.

I saw that same list on Pinterest and felt even more unfit because I had to look up on youtube what a burpee was. I do the same kind of way of eating by eating what I want on the weekends. THere is just something about that mindset that helps me succeed.
I spent four years losing a TON of weight — very slowly — and have managed to keep it off. What works for me is to give myself one treat a week. Never thought of giving myself one day a week. Hmmm. I will say this: it does get easier. Will power grows. The more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. Carrots and cabbage begin to sound good. Crazy? It’s all about getting back to eating in a sensible manner. Congrats for what you’ve done so far — you can do it!
It’s amazing, the truth in the statement on that last picture thing! My husband and I have been doing P90X for the past 12 weeks and, while HE has lost almost 30 pounds, I’ve lost a whopping 6! HOWEVER, I had to go and buy jeans in a smaller size last week (HAD to…as in, my others were kind of falling off!) and I’ve had many people comment on how I look like I’ve lost weight. Nope, I’m just changing shape! (Although, I will argue to the DEATH that I WAS in shape because ROUND is a shape!)
You may be putting on some muscle, so I am sure you have probably lost more fat than what you are seeing on the scale. I try not to put too much emphasis on the number the scale shows and go by how I feel in my clothes.
I just posted about weight loss, obviously a lot of us are on this journey right now. I’ve been hesitant to talk about it on my blog, but today i posted pictures and everything…..I think talking about it to the world (or my 3 dedicated blog readers) helps…..I love to read your posts about it, and I’m with you on the waiting to love exercise thing…..it just doesn’t happen for me either…but I love how I feel after….and I love how my body is changing…so that keeps me goign back…
That last quote is great. If I don’t see results in like 5 minutes, I tend to get frustrated and give up….great reminder. 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration! I’m on the treadmill while I’m reading.
7 burpees? Not sure what that is.. I will have to look it up. I pulled out my vhs from 1999 called Boot Camp. 30 minutes of weights, push ups, situps and cardio. I can hardly walk, but I sure can feel those “fat” areas hurting.. That has to mean they are firming up, right? My daughter is a huge pinterest user. I tend to steal from her boards. She finds all these healthy vegetable dishes and so far they have been great. She made a wonderful cauliflower crust pizza, with veggies on it the other night. Who knew it could taste so good.
Keep on moving!
Got to have the Nike sports watch… Cool….. Thanks for the giveaway..
Way to go Melanie! You go girl!
That is the same workout I found on Pinterest! Actually, I just finished and sat down to catch my breath. I needed a break from Jillian Michaels but I gotta say, I’d rather do her mountainclimbers than burpees! Burpees must be some type of torture (which probably means they are exactly what I should be doing!)
On the Fitness at Home graphic…Uh, WHAT is a burpee??? Cause that doesn’t sound hard at all–just need to drink a big Dr. Pepper first…
I almost NEVER love it while I’m running. (Or, more specifically: I usually hate it WHILE I’m running.) I think all the endorphins come AFTER you run–when you are saying, “Oh, thank the Lord THAT is O-VER!” Then, you get that sweaty glow and think, “Hallelujah, my exercise is DONE for the day, and I don’t have to do it again until tomorrow!!”
I am proud of you for keeping it up for five weeks. Right now I am trying to get back to my prepregnancy weight and it hasn’t proved very rewarding just yet. I just keep telling myself it won’t happen unless I put forth an effort.
You can do it… don’t be like me. I still haven’t lost my prepregnancy weight and my baby is 18. Years old. I am the worst (best?) procrastinator in the universe!
bodyrock.tv THAT’S SOME REALLY GOOD STUFF!
Have no clue as to what a Burpee is and I may be a little too scared to find out. This week is my week to begin my new approach to a better me. We will see how that goes because right now I am not feelin’ it.
It really is wonderful how well you are doing. I know you have to be very proud of yourself. Go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back.
I’m clueless as to what a burpee is too – I saw this on pinterst too and marked it, but I guess til I find out what it is, I’ll have to keep sitting on the couch with my Thin Mints 🙂 Good job on 5 weeks! I’m impressed!!
I’m so looking forward to your book! 🙂 Your blog brings me joy daily!
Thank you!
Jackie
Love that you linked to your pinboards. YAY! I just tried to find you the other day. Unfortunately, there are a lot of big mamas out there.
I have started running too and posted about it today. Don’t you love it when people say your face is thinner? I mean, my goal has always been to be a size 6 in my face. (Kidding aside, when anyone tells me any part of me is thinner, I am a happy camper.)
Looking thru your comments to see if anyone else mentioned this motivational quote I saw on Pinterest but then noticed all the people who don’t know what at burpee is. Check youtube. I can’t even do one burpee. The quote that really hit me was this: When your mind asks, “Can I really do this?” Reply out loud with, “I ABSOLUTELY CAN!”
Satan is the father of burpees. That’s definitely in the Bible.
Second that on the cauliflower pizza. I made it this weekend and it was REALLY good. I’m going to try it again. Make sure you don’t spread the crust too thin and allow it time to settle and set up. Mine kind of fell apart but it still tasted excellent.
