Yes. It’s true. Our air-conditioning is out. On the bright side, it’s only the unit that cools our bedroom. Yet on the downside, we like to sleep in our bedrooms. And on another downside, the repairman had to order a part and told us our circuit board is dead. I’ll be honest, that doesn’t sound cheap.
But I don’t want to let my personal A/C tragedy interfere with fashion.
Also, I have to tell you two things that happened today that made me believe I might have some sort of sixth sense.
First, I tweeted yesterday morning that Gap can’t even make clothes that look good on the models on their website anymore. And that doesn’t bode well for those of us who are normal. Then I read just a little while ago that Gap is closing a third of their stores nationwide.
This comes as no surprise to me. I want to like Gap, I really do. Plaid walking shorts from Gap were a staple of my college wardrobe along with their side zip black skinny pants. But I can’t remember the last time I bought something there for myself. Dear Gap, where did it all go wrong?
Secondly, I was dropping off a shirt at the drycleaners’ and was standing in line behind a man wearing a t-shirt that read, “I DRESS MYSELF”. I didn’t need the shirt to tell me that was the case because the fact he had on knee-high white socks with shorts told the whole story.
Now for a few things I’ve found that you may or may not have some interest in knowing about.
1. raking leaves striped asymmetrical cardigan
I’m sure someday I’ll regret all the striped items I’ve accumulated in my closet over the last six months.
This is really cute, but it doesn’t really go with my life. I rarely wear dresses anymore because I just don’t. But if I were still working I’d totally buy this dress.
3. brandee ruffle knit cardigan
Love that this could just go on over a white t-shirt and some jeans.
I’m always on the lookout for great pieces to layer under jackets or sweaters or just to wear on their own.
5. tulle highlands wool peacoat
I love a great camel-colored coat. So versatile.
6. bb dakota zeke striped brown coat
This has potential. I love the thought of it with skinny jeans and boots.
Pretty scarf.
Love this top.
I thought this was really pretty.
Now I love this. Great with leggings or skinny jeans or tights with boots.
That’s it for today.
Hope y’all have a great Friday.

Yes, our town’s Gap store has closed. Which is unfortunate because last week I went to the mall not knowing of the closure and walked the halls over and over thinking I’d lost my mind and couldn’t find the store. And, I believe all A.C. units across the state of TX may deserve a round of applause for keeping us all cool this summer- they have had quite the workout this year. Praying yours gets fixed soon- we’re still braving the heat out here in East TX, too
My MIL’s husband wears knee high socks…. with sandals! Girl, it’s not pretty. Sorry to hear about your A/C unit. We had to replace ours and the ductwork last year. Ugh.
Wait–I’m certainly not a fashion expert, but the gray smoke dress said to wear it with scrunched socks. What does that mean? I wore scrunched socks in the 90s (probably incorrectly), but I didn’t know people were wearing them now. Do those words have new meaning now?
I want to wear that peacoat – when you get your AC fixed turn it down real low and open the windows, I’ll stand in your front yard and model it until I start to melt
I saw people packing up for the river yesterday and thought “it is way to cold for the river”. Then I hit the thermostat in the car an it read 92* – now I’m thinking I should go to the river today!
Ha! We went to “our” river for the weekend, and it was 39 degrees in the morning. Ha!
I had no idea that GAP was closing up shop to such an extent. Sign of the times! Although, our GAP left the mall when I was a Freshman in high school and my friend Ann mourned for a whole week.
I have an asymmetrical sweater and if it would ever get cold enough, I would wear it. I find some of your choices very conducive to me thinking about maybe going to the gym some time soon. I won’t ever look cute in that lounge tee until I shape up!
I actually like clothes from the GAP. I shop there often, because their clothes fit me. I wear their curvy jeans and lots of tops from them. Maybe that is telling about my style or lack of it…lol. I always shop their clearance racks too, so I’m buying the stuff no-one else wanted! Oh, me. I may need fashion intervention.

I’m with Fringe-girl — I shop at Gap often…. I’ve thought before, when shopping, that I needed a Big Mama app to help me make smart choices!!!
Maybe it is because I live in the Midwest where we set often the last to get new fashion trends, but my closet is full of Gap. Most of it is jeans and solid colored tops in slightly different styles. What is in store often is much better than what is online and most time a lot cheaper, too. I also live in a black hole of shopping and Gap is one of about 3 stores to buy inexpensive women’s clothes in our town.
I have a love/hate relationship with Gap. I have found some really cute things in there over the years but I have also tried on countless items that have made me want to cry and never return.
I think I just fell in love with that tribal top! And I know exactly what you mean about Gap. I haven’t found anything there in FOREVER. So sad.
I cannot say I am surprised about Gap. This summer I went to stores in Canada & Memphis and in both cities, the adult stores had been combined with the children’s stores. The adult sections all looked as though they were clearance outlets and had large “9.99 & up” signs. Bleh. It is disappointing as I, too, have fond memories of this chain and -want- to like them.
I’ve tried to stay in love with the Gap, but the love has slowly died over the last few years. They’ve lost that loving feeling. It is so sad to see it go by the way side.
Love all of your suggestions. I am such a fan of those cardigans. I started buying them last season. They are just perfect for these hot and cold transitions we have.
Oh, you picked some cuuute things!! Sadly, our weather is foreshadowing the winter to come. Our heat was actually turned on two days early- the standard in former Soviet countries is on Oct. 15 and off April 15- climate control in your own home is a novelty.
I am not a shopper, but the descriptive language on the ModCloth site is enough to make me want both the items you listed even though neither one is my style or color. It’s like reading a travel novel and being portrayed as the romantic heroine!
I never comment on Fashion Friday because when it comes to fashion, I’ve learned it’s best for me to just go along with whatever people who actually possess a sense of style suggest for me. However, I have to question the advice from Modcloth to wear the “Where There’s Smoke Dress” with scrunch socks. Scrunch socks? Like the kind I wore in high school when I worshipped Bananarama? If those are sincerely making a comeback, can the next edition of FF offer me some advice on this trend? I’m going to need guidance.
I am powerless against an asymmetrical cardigan. POWERLESS. And sweater #3? It makes me want to crawl inside my computer to get it. It’s Fall in Wisconsin. Highs of 60.
Love almost all those looks. But, I’m wondering if you ever get to wear sweaters and coats? Or do you just wear them because the calendar says it’s fall/winter and you don’t care if it’s 80 degrees outside?
So many questions. . .
I used to wear Gap jeans, but they don’t fit me anymore since they changed to the 1969 style a few years ago. Although they still caryy the style I like at the outlet malls. I love their kids clothes though and they are always on swale.
I LOVE that grey dress and am seriously thining about ordering it.
PS I bought the pink ruffled skirt from Piperlime you fetured over the summer and it soo comfortable.
The last time I was in Gap I was so surprised… the clothes were just awful. Expensive and unattractive. So disappointing.
Has anyone used ModCloth? Worth the $$? Quality was good? THANKS!!!
Not surprised about Gap. Only shop there for my boys now…still like the jeans for them and cute t’s and button downs
I’m in love with the raking leaves cardigan and its name. Of COURSE I rake leaves in flowy asymetrical cardigans. Who doesn’t?? I find stylish layering adds visual interest to my yard work.
I guess I could assume the name refers to the color being similar to autumn leaves, but that’s not nearly as fun!
