I just took a wild guess and decided the majority of you probably don’t care to hear about what I did yesterday. Especially considering it involves such excitement as a trip to the grocery store, going to the pool and driving Caroline to soccer practice.
So I thought I’d tell you about a few of my favorite things this summer. Please note that whiskers on kittens are nowhere to be found on this list. Not because I don’t like them so much as I don’t have a cat in my life right now.
Favorite Candle:
My friend Leslie gave me one of these candles a few months ago and I am addicted. Plus, do you not see the turquoise jar? What’s not to love?
This is one of those candles that make your whole house smell divine.
Favorite Moisturizer:
This has been one of my summer favorites for a long time. It smells so great and makes your skin feel good even after a day in the pool.
Favorite Song:
Mirrors by JT
I knew the first time I heard it that this would be my favorite song of the summer. It sounds like something Justin would have sang when he was with ‘N Sync.
And, yes. I call him Justin. We’re very close friends. In my mind.
Favorite Hair Product:
My hairdresser told me I should use coconut oil on my hair and it is a wonder. It totally moisturizes it, but doesn’t leave it feeling oily or limp.
You just leave it in for about ten minutes and then shampoo it out.
Favorite Nail Polish:
I love all these bright pastels from Essie. It’s like a basket of Easter eggs.
Favorite Cover Up:
This is a great coverup. I love that it’s easy to pull on and not too short.
Favorite Beauty Product:
I realize all the cool kids have moved on to CC creams, but I just discovered the BB cream in the spring and I’m not ready to leave it behind yet. Especially because I really like this. It’s been the perfect thing to wear all summer.
Favorite Sandwich:
I may have a slight obsession with this sandwich. But I will tell you that I don’t put cheese on mine other than the cream cheese. That’s all I need.
And you can do a mix of various vegetables depending on your personal preference. I tend to stick to tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce. But I’m a small town girl, living in a lonely world and I took the midnight train going anywhere.
Wait…
Favorite Bible Study:
If you’re looking for a great Bible study, look no further. I’ve always loved the story of Gideon and Priscilla Shirer has written such a fabulous study on him.
Favorite Movie:
Granted, it’s the only movie I’ve seen in the theater this summer, but I think it’d be my favorite no matter what because MINIONS.
So what are some of your favorites this summer? Clearly you’re not limited to any specific category.
We LOVED Dispicable Me for one reason: Minions. You cannot have enough of them for me. I saw a picture of Tic Tacs that look like minions and they are supposed to be real. It has become my mission in life to find them!
My favorite discovery this summer has been the Thai green papaya salad. My ultimate goal has been to search the island for the best one. So far the best one has come from A Taste of Siam at Ala Moana mall which is basically like going to the Galleria for lunch. Ludicrous. But it’s SO good. I have to find somewhere NOT in a mall that has a salad that good.
I’ve never even heard of CC creams, so now I feel completely out of the loop! Where have I been? Oh, and while I haven’t had a chance to do the Gideon study yet, I was super blessed to see her live during the simulcast here in Richmond when she kicked off the study! It was awesome…she is awesome….so I know the study must be awesome too! 🙂
If anyone could have made a trip to the grocery store sound interesting…it would have been you. 🙂
Just started Gideon. Looking forward to it!
Summer produce – and the bonus of losing weight and feeling really healthy!
Peach salsa – I probably didn’t make enough of it!
Long, light filled days.
We have a coffee shop here called Biggby’s….. they have The Bragel. As you might guess it is amazing bagel cream cheese sandwich combo goodness. It took a few pounds for me to remember to steer my car away from Biggby’s instead of towards it! 😉
Love Ava Anderson body butter on dry feet after too many days of beach sand and flip flops!
I, too, am a fan of Essie polish. My favorite fruit in the whole world is peaches and Palisade, Colorado, has the BEST peaches. They’re fresh right now, I get them at the Farmer’s Market. Another favorite — walking! Early morning is the best time to start the day off with thankful thoughts and some exercise.
What’s the difference between a bb cream and a cc cream? What are those anyway? I’m lost in all the facial cream choices, which is why I haven’t changed my facial regimen in over a decade.
I was wondering the same thing – I found this helpful:
http://fashionista.com/2013/04/the-difference-between-bb-cc-dd-creams/
(although after reading it I concluded I like my face cream just fine!)
Definitely the Gideon Bible Study by Priscilla Shirer, Also, Pineapple Island Slush drink from Sonic, Burt’s Bee’s Moisturizing lip balm, and the books, “Sparkly Green Earrings” and of course, “A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet”. 🙂 These are a few of my favorite things….wait, isn’t that a song? heehee
My most favorite things of summer are the smell of Coppertone, the sound of crashing waves and happy kids 🙂
Have become a huge fan of BB product also – makes skin look so smooth and just that little bit of coverage.
Eucerin skin calming formula – I buy the biggest tubes available at local WallyWorld – great softening, healing without all that greasy mess.
Favorite clothing item – the huge free t-shirts I get when donating blood at local blood bank – so ugly but soft and free (well except for the whole give a pint of blood thing)
Favorite summer food – yellow meated watermelon – ice cold and crispy delish
My summer favorites?
1. Mangos. In everything, with everything, on everything, by themselves.
2. No alarm clock. Not most days, anyway.
3. Vacations. We’ve been to NYC and Orlando. This Sunday, we head to our timeshare in your neck of the woods. You will find me floating on a lazy river in an inner tube. Or eating at La Fogata.
Try sunflower seeds on your veggie sandwich!
I love summer and everything that goes with it!
The Gideon study was AWESOME.
My favorite product is Nivea A Kiss of Cherry Flavored Tinted Lip Care SPF 10.
I LOVE Garnier BB Cream! I found it this spring, too and I don’t want to move onto CC cream. This stuff is too good!
I recently saw a Despicable Me Monopoly game in Barnes & Noble. The playing pieces were minions…I’m trying to figure out how to justify buying it for myself.
I loved the minions!
My two favorite things this summer, besides my girlies:
1) a cheap pool we got at Walmart. I never knew a $100 pool would elicit such responses as, “You’re the best mom ever!”
2) a new puppy. A little bit more than $100, but same responses from the kiddos. Added bonus–I don’t have to sweep the kitchen anymore. Unfortunately, I am now the crazy lady in the neighborhood that can be heard yelling, “No! Bad dog!! You go potty outside!!” every 30 minutes…
Not sure which scent you got in the Capri Jar Candle, but the Volcano scent is the best, HANDS DOWN!! (it’s Anthropologie in wax form 🙂
Arbonne Make-Up Primer: my favorite new discovery. It really does work (make-up stays put longer) and it feels like silk on your face!

I love reading about other people’s favorites. And for the record, I love JT too!
Just wanted to let you know that I have nominated your blog for an award!

That candle …. I need it in my life!
Can’t believe you didn’t include the “snake farm” video I emailed you!!!!
Favorite new clothing item: knit maxi skirt
Favorite new nail polish: Essie “bikini so teeny” blue
Favorite new health food: Spinach shake with frozen fruit and almond milk and one scoop of slimfast vanilla
Favorite devotion: reading through the Bible from The Message with Eugene Peterson’s commentary
Favorite entertainment: reading your blog. seriously. it never fails to brighten my day
Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was just thinking earlier this week that I wished I could remember what you mentioned in your podcast that you used on your hair to make it all silky smooth. And, voila — here it is spelled out for me!
Summer… I’m still hoping we’ll get a bit here in No Cal before Autumn arrives with colder nights. My favorite part of summer is seeing the Littles who have started preschool and moved beyond my care come back for the odd week during this time of year; it’s been joyous having Piper around the last few weeks.
Neutrogena sesame oil & Neutrogena rain bath are my jam- the ladies in our family have used them as long as I can remember AND if you add just a little sesame oil to an unscented body lotion, it takes smooth to a whole other level.
Also, how could you not love a movie that gives a nod to John Michael Montgomery? Even if I’d hated all of it, the ending was totally worth it!
I tried the Garnier BB cream after you recommended it (on the blog or in a podcast, can’t remember where) and I love it. I use it instead of foundation or powder.
My favorite thing so far this summer has been reading Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist.
My favorite thing still to come this summer is a week at the beach in August!
I have been using coconut oil in my hair but I do it while my hair is wet? Is it effective if you put it on dry hair? That would be easier.
Hmmm I think my fav so far this summer is my new shiny yellow KitchenAid mixer that I have wanted for YEARS! Also tho right on par with that is the pearl necklace and earrings hubby got me for Mother’s day this year 🙂 And I LOVED Sparkly Green Earrings!!!!
If I have played Mirrors once on my phone I’ve played it a thousand times. Forget the rest of the album. Who doesn’t love a little retro JT? My poor husband is tired of my jamming it in pickup – it ruins his image :). My women’s group is starting Gideon in September – glad to hear its a winner! See you at Allume!
