  • Big Boo Cast: Episode 280

Since we recorded our last episode a few days early, it felt like we had lived ten lives when we sat down to record for this week. That’s why you’re going to hear about a wide array of topics, from which ride made Sophie nauseous at Universal to how college kids don’t like to commit to activities to when Sophie’s family received a free gift in Georgia to why she experienced buyer’s remorse over a new dress.

    A lot has happened, y’all.

There’s no Five Favorites this week – we’re doing a quick graduation gift guide instead – but rest assured that we’ll be back with Five Favorites next week. I think it’ll be my turn.

    Hope y’all enjoy!

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it’s April Fools Day

    Listen.

I just watched the Aggie men’s basketball team lose by one point in the NIT championship game so I’m a little depressed at the moment. But I do just want to say that I am so proud of this team. They could have quit when they lost eight games in a row in February. They could have quit when the NCAA cheated them out of spot in the NCAA tournament (I SAID WHAT I SAID) but they showed grit, resilience and heart all season long. They fought back time and time again and there is nothing I appreciate more than a team that digs deep and keeps going in the face of adversity. And while I’m sure most of them don’t read Fashion Friday, I just want to say that they made me proud to be an Aggie.

Also, today is April fools Day. I do not care for practical jokes so I will not be participating in any shenanigans but God speed to you if this is perhaps your kind of day.

Anyway, here are some things I found this week:

    1. dolce vita Francy wedges

I have been looking for the perfect casual summer sandal to replace the pair I’ve worn for the last several years and I believe these are the winner.

    They are $120.

    2. free people le femme top

I have loved this top for a long time and now it’s on sale for $54.97. It’s a great option to wear with higher waisted jeans and shorts.

It also comes in blue or peach if you’re like me and don’t need any more white shirts.

    3. Maeve kick flare pants

I bought a different version of these pants about a month ago and I have loved them so much. All you need is a good solid shirt or lightweight sweater to wear with them and they are so comfortable.

    They are $130.

    4. Maeve longline classic shirt

I love the whole retro feel of this shirt. It’s so fun for spring and summer.

    It’s $98.

    5. time and tru high rise denim frayed shorts

Y’all. These shorts. I know I featured them last week but I have since ordered them in two more colors. They are honestly the best cutoff shorts I’ve tried this year.

They are $13.98. You can’t beat that deal.

    6. vince camuto mirinda sandal

I ran in DSW this week and I tried these on. They are the perfect neutral dress sandal and super cute. They are also surprisingly comfortable for a higher heel.

    They are $79.99.

    7. Nine West strappy sandal

I love a gold sandal for summer because they go with basically anything. These are really cute and also come in other color options.

    They are $69.

    8. the one I want chambray romper

Whether you’re a fan or not, rompers and jumpsuits are a big trend. I happen to love them and I think this chambray one is so cute.

    It’s $58.

    9. hat attack raffia sun hat

This is just about the perfect sun hat. It’s cute and it doesn’t feel too heavy or hot on your head. I also love that it has a brim that’s large enough to really keep the sun off your face because that is priority one for me these days.

    It’s $138.

    10. linen jumpsuit

See? Another jumpsuit. I think this has so much potential. It’s $119

And I also love this belted printed jumpsuit for a different option.

    It’s $79.99.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the last one of March

It is hard to believe that March is almost over, yet here we are. Spring is officially in the air and I, for one, couldn’t be more excited about this development. Springtime in Texas is really the best season because it’s just the right amount of warm before summer gets here and tries to kill us all.

Here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. exploring love coral maxi dress

Love this coral color. It’s something a little different than usual and this dress just looks like an easy one to dress up or down.

    It’s $58.

    2. time and tru high rise denim cutoff shorts

I ordered these shorts because I thought they were probably too good to be true, but I will tell you that they are a winner. The length is good and they aren’t as high rise as they appear in this photo, but still high rise enough to suck everything in. I ordered one size up because I like my denim shorts a little loose.

These have a little bit of stretch and a great small side slit in the legs so they don’t fit too tight on your thighs. They also come in pink, blue and white and are only $13.98. They are honestly some of the best jean shorts I’ve tried.

    3. pleated maxi skirt

This is such a gorgeous skirt and it also comes in a gorgeous solid blue. I would wear this with a simple white shirt tied at the waist and sandals. It’s just a dreamy look.

This skirt is on sale for $99.95.

    4. donna frayed medium wash flare jeans

These jeans are so good and they are finally back in stock. If you need a good casual flare, this is your jean. The raw hem means you can cut them to the length you need, but they are long enough to wear with heels if you’re 5’7″ or shorter.

    They are $56.

    5. where it all begins yellow babydoll dress

Kate and William are currently on a Royal Tour which makes my heart so happy. I love a Royal Tour and the chance to see all the outfit selections. Anyway, she wore this gorgeous bright yellow dress in Jamaica and it made me want a bright yellow dress. I feel certain this is not the one she had on. In fact, it looks nothing like it except for the color. But I do think this bright yellow is so pretty.

It’s $48. It also comes in hot pink.

    6. Rebecca dress

I think this is so bright and pretty. It would make a great Easter dress and I love that it’s just a little bit retro.

    It’s $88.

    7. universal thread button-down shirt

I bought this exact white button-down last summer and have worn the heck out of it. I bought it in a large because I wanted it oversized. It’s so soft and just a great shirt to wear untucked or tied at your waist or untucked or open over a tank top.

It’s $20 and also comes in a couple of other colors.

    8. utility cropped jumpsuit

It’s no secret I love a jumpsuit and this one is just really cute for a casual look. I’d wear a tank or tee under it but I like it for just a good outfit to run around in.

It’s $29.99 and comes in a couple of color options.

    9. o’neill Culver quarter zip cotton sweater

I love a lightweight sweater for spring even if I only get to wear them about three days before it gets too hot. This one is so pretty and would look so great with jeans or cutoff shorts.

Oh! How cute would it look with the pink Walmart cutoffs up above?

    It’s $69.50.

    10. bauble bar custom multi disc pisa bracelets

I think this is the cutest customizable bracelet and there are lots of other color and letter options on the BaubleBar site. This could make a really cute addition to an Easter basket or a great grad gift. Just note that it takes two weeks to come in so allow the time needed.

They are $40 but you can take 20% off two bracelets with code STACKING20.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Big Boo Cast: Episode 278

If you’re wondering this week if I am over my spirit of grievance with the NCAA regarding the college basketball tournament, I will settle that question for you almost immediately after this episode starts. We also explore two new topics – doom piles and tantouring – and lament our complete lack of skill when it comes to organizing and applying make-up.

It’s my turn for Five Favorites, and you’ll be delighted to hear I have a new slogan for arugula in the process. Take that, Whoop City.

    Hope y’all enjoy!

  • Big Boo Cast: Bonus Episode with Kim Spradlin Wolfe

This bonus episode marks a first for us, and that’s because our guest, Kim Spradlin-Wolfe, was actually a Survivor champion about ten years ago. This means she can claim some next-level mental and physical toughness, so suffice it to say that Sophie and I – as a couple of Enneagram 9s – are fascinated.

Kim also has a new show coming out on HGTV, so we talk about that along with a fun project she and I are working on. You’re going to love listening to her, and we got such a kick out of having time to sit down and talk with her. She really is one of my new favorite people.

We’ll be back in a couple of days with our regular episode for the week (278). Hope y’all enjoy!

  • Fashion Friday: Edition time changes are the worst

I realize it’s Friday and the time changed on Sunday and I should be over it by now. But I am not. In fact, it feels like losing one hour has actually equaled losing six hours as the week has progressed. And I don’t even have kids at home who are waking me up at odd hours.

I just personally feel so disoriented when it stays light for so late. I look up and it’s 7:30 and we haven’t eaten dinner yet because I thought it was still maybe 4:00 in the afternoon.

Thank you for listening. And, Congress, I realize you have bigger things going on that you’re not really doing anything about, but if you could work on getting the time change thing fixed that would be great.

Anyway, here are some cute things I found this week while not knowing what time it was.

    1. a new journey print maxi dress

This is one of the cutest dresses I’ve seen this spring. I love the green color and the style. It would be so cute for Easter.

    It’s $64.

    2. in your dreams playful pink multi dress

I love a bright dress and this one is super cute.

    It’s $58.

    3. pilcro flutter-sleeve button-down tunic dress

I was initially worried this might be too short looking at it on the model, but it’s 34.5 inches long which should hit you above the knee if you’re 5’6 or so. This is just a really easy dress for summer and could be dressed up or just worn with sneakers. It comes in a couple of color options.

    It’s $148.

    4. olivaceous printed jogger

I think these joggers are so darling. They would be great with just a simple tee or tank.

They are $69 and also come in a pink pattern.

    5. Whitney boyfriend jeans

These are some of the best jeans I own. The denim is so soft and lightweight and they are a great boyfriend fit.

They are $95 but you can get 15% off with code MELANIE15 at checkout.

    6. Sofia top

It is no secret that I like a white top. This one is really cute and it’s $64.

    7. nike blazer low jumbo sneakers

My sneaker obsession continues. I love the blue and green on these Nikes. And they also come in a blush color if that’s more your style.

    They are $95.

    8. vuori daily leggings

I know everyone loves the Vuori joggers, but I personally am a bigger fan of their leggings. These daily leggings fit like a dream and are perfect whether you’re just lounging around or working out. I size up to a medium because I feel like they run a little small.

They are incredibly soft, have good compression and are $89.

    9. gingham tiered maxi dress

This is another really cute dress that would be good for Easter. It also comes in pink but I just kind of love this yellow.

    It’s $120.

    10. pink blazer

This is the cutest pink blazer and it’s just $34.99. You could wear it over all white. Or with denim. Or over a dress. It’s just a great piece in a great color at a great price.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
