  • Fashion Friday: Edition cone of uncertainty

Well, this is going to be brief. Mainly because I am still monitoring the weather situation to determine if our girls’ trip to the beach is still going to happen. As of now it looks like all systems are a go. Especially because P packed me a handy tactical bag full of flashlights, glow sticks and TWO headlamps in case of a power outage.

So now I just need to finish making one of the fourteen different dips we’re going to eat over the course of the weekend and continue to obsessively watch the radar to see if the cone of uncertainty shifts.

But here are a few cute things I’ve found. Complete with no pictures. However, everything this week is very moderately priced and most of it is on sale. So there’s that.

    1. boronia curvy plus top

I think this is so pretty and I adore the berry color. It would look especially great with turquoise accessories.

    2. three layer gold coin necklace

When we were in Bryan last week, Nena had on a gold necklace with a very small gold coin pendant. I said, “Nena! Gold coins are so in right now. Did you know that?”

    “Of course I knew that.”

Then Gulley asked her if it was a real coin and she replied with the utmost authority, “Yes. It’s Mexican.”

Between you and me, I don’t think it was any type of peso. In fact, I’m hard pressed to believe it was any form of legitimate currency.

But gold coin necklaces are in right now.

    3. v-neck tab blouse

This is a great blouse and would be a great transition piece for fall with the addition of a scarf.

    4. tiered midi skirt

I love a skirt when the weather is so hot that people wish they lived on the surface of the sun.

    5. deco adoration blouse

I love this and it’s a deal right now.

    6. schoolboy eyelet blazer

Personally, I don’t live in a place that allows a fun, warm weather blazer. But I wish I did because I adore this.

    7. raw edge ruffle tops

    Great top.

    8. ruffle trim henleys

    I really like these tops.

    9. mementos maxi dress

This is really pretty. But only in the yellow.

    10. summer ballad maxi dress

I like this because it’s a maxi dress with a little more coverage than your average maxi dress.

    And that’s it.

    Y’all have a great Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition still on the road so I will keep it brief and random

Well, we are still in the midst of our road trip. Yet here I am with Fashion Friday because I feel that it’s my duty to not shirk my sartorial responsibilities. Also, I suffer from borderline OCD and can’t help myself.

But here’s the thing about fashion right now. It’s a mixed bag. You have summer clothes on sale and fall clothes just beginning to emerge and it all makes my head hurt because I’m mixing boots with sundresses and I feel conflicted. Especially because I love fall the best. It’s my favorite but I hate to make summer feel bad.

Which is ironic because summer certainly doesn’t mind making me feel bad. It doesn’t mind the temps being hotter than the surface of Mars (The hottest planet. Or maybe not. I don’t really know and I don’t want to do the research.) and it doesn’t mind that I’m sweaty and tired and totally over the whole thing even though we have MONTHS of unbearable heat to go.

It’s kind of like this whole thing with the Longhorn network and the Aggies threatening to move to the SEC. We act like we’re worried about hurting the Longhorns feelings, but you know who never worries about us? The Longhorns. We are just their less hot sister that they hope makes them look better by comparison.

And you know how I feel about that? I feel that it’s time for us to say ADIOS, SUCKERS and take our still very attractive selves and lucrative media market and move on to better things.

However, last I checked, the Board of Regents hasn’t called to ask my opinion. But they should because I have A LOT OF THOUGHTS. And now you’re sitting here wondering what any of this has to do with clothing. The answer is I DON’T KNOW.

    1. varesca gala drop earrings

I adore coral and turquoise together. They go together like peas and carrots.

    2. dawson’s chic dress

This is a very summery dress, but I love the white. So crisp.

    3. sanctuary greenwich tunic dress

See? Conflicted. Because why am I adoring fur vests in July? But really this isn’t about the fur vest as much as it’s about the tunic. So cute. Would love this with skinny jeans and boots.

    4. slung scarf tank

And now we’re back to summer. I can’t keep track. But this would look great with some white jeans. Or regular jeans. Or whatever.

    5. tethered orbs cuff

This? Summer or fall. I feel so much more centered.

    6. floral-print dobby shirts

I’ve been torn about this shirt because, as a rule, I do not like most florals. But I like this. I think. I don’t know.

    7. hinge stripe oversize poncho

And we’re back to fall. I’ve always loved a poncho. Just think of all the chips you could hide under it when you go to the movies.

Not that I’ve ever snuck chips into the movies, but maybe it’s because I’ve never had the right poncho.

    8. crochet trim top

This is from Zara. And you can’t shop online at Zara. But I wanted you to know that they are having a huge summer sale right now and you should totally go if you have one anywhere near you.

    9. Two-Tone link necklace

    I just like this.

    10. Green patent flower flat sandals

Well, these are just darling. And totally summer.

    That’s it for today.

    Y’all have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition laziest one ever

It’s true. This is the laziest Fashion Friday in history. And that’s saying something.

Actually, it’s not so much lazy as it is that I’m pressed for time because I’m trying to get this done on Wednesday night so I can leave my computer at home and not lug it with me through the airport. It makes life so much easier.

So I’m sorry that there are no pictures this week and no commentary on the various items. But I assure you that they’re very cute. And in an attempt to make it up to you, I want to share a website that a reader emailed me last week. It’s called What Kate Wore and it’s all about Kate Middleton’s wardrobe and details what she wears to various events. In other words, it’s perfection.

I realize some of you may not care at all what the Duchess wears, but I find it fascinating. And inspiring. There are even moments I pity her when it appears she has been forced to wear pantyhose and closed toe shoes as a matter of royal etiquette. Because why else would you wear pantyhose? Unless it’s 1977 and it feels like a right of passage to wear a pair of L’Eggs in suntan color with your new Yo-Yos and a red terrycloth dress?

One last thing, this weekend is Nordstrom’s big fall sale. None of this stuff is from Nordstrom, but you may want to go on their site and look for good deals.

    That is all.

    1. saltwater blouse

    2. brunch at my place dress

    3. leopard wedge

I know I wasn’t going to add commentary, but these are on sale for a limited time.

    4. lucky brand riding boots

The same goes for these and I ADORE them.

    5. rustic canyon embroidered dress

    6. villa fonte lace dress

    7. mementos maxi dress

    8. knit maxi skirt

    9. orla kiely super maxi sling bag

    10. siren necklace

    That’s it.

    Y’all have a great Friday.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition there’s nothing here

Well, it turns out that I took an unexpected break. Life sometimes gets busy with things like sun and sand and the ocean and little girls who won’t be seven forever.

And, really, it’s for the best because I’m tired of looking at summer clothes.

I want to look at boots and sweaters and jeans.

And then I just feel hot because it will be MONTHS before I can wear any of it.

    I’ll be back on Monday.

    Y’all have a great weekend.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition God bless America

So this weekend is 4th of July weekend. Or as Caroline referred to it last year, the day the UK celebrates its Day of Shame.

And wouldn’t it be cool if I just featured things that were red, white and blue? I thought about it for at least twenty-two seconds before I realized that would take me a sweet forever. And I don’t have that kind of time.

You also may notice that I didn’t feature one single picture this week. That’s because I have embraced my inner laziness and kind of gave myself the week off.

But yet there is still good fashion to be found.

I also wanted to let y’all know that I’ve started writing a regular column called Fashion Cafe for Praise and Coffee magazine. You can find it by clicking here if you’re interested.

No pressure, but there are some good finds over there.

Also, here are a few things I found this week.

    1. eyeleted corset top

I debated posting this because I realize it’s not for everyone AND it’s almost sold out in every size. But I think it is so pretty and you might be able to find it in your local Anthropologie store.

    I adore it.

    2. classic linen tunic

I bought two great linen tunics at the beginning of the summer and have worn them non-stop. I love the versatility and the way I can effortlessly look like I put some effort into getting dressed.

    I believe that’s called irony.

    3. black wedge espadrilles

I’ve noticed that Target has some cute shoes in the store lately, but these are my personal favorites.

    4. soft v-neck striped tee

Is it just me or has Gap become kind of MEH lately? Like I got an email announcing their 70% off summer sale and was barely tempted to go look because I can’t remember the last time I really loved anything at Gap. Which makes me sad.

Have I ever told y’all that one of my favorite things ever was a pair of plaid walking shorts I bought at Gap in 1991? I wish I had a picture. Maybe I do. I’ll check on that this week.

But Gap does do t-shirts well. They are soft and fairly good quality. And I appreciate the stripe.

    5. ruffle hem tank

Last fall I found a ruffle hem tank on sale at Nordstrom Rack for $4.99. It was one of my greatest fashion triumphs. And then over the winter I discovered it looked really cute paired under a simple black blazer I bought at Target. So what’s my point?

This ruffle hem tank is on sale for $13.99 right now. And it would make a great piece to layer when the weather cools off. if it ever cools off again.

I also really like this sequin embellished tank which is 40% off right now at Ann Taylor. It’s still pricey but could be worn with so many things.

    6. double wrap african turquoise and leather bracelet

I cannot express how much I love this. It’s got such a great bohemian thing going on.

    7. old mexico teardrop ring

These rings are so great and so expensive. Plus they come from the Junk Gypsies who are the ones that sent Caroline her mama tried t-shirt.

    8. hazel crochet poncho

How can you dislike anything that has the word “poncho” in the description?

    9. hive and honey open stitch vest

I love pieces that can transition into other seasons and this is one of those things.

    10. laced with love dress

It’s hard to tell if I’d actually wear this as a dress. My guess is probably no. But I’d totally wear it with a pair of white cropped skinny jeans or with regular jeans. Or with leggings.

    That’s it for today.

Hope y’all have a great holiday weekend full of hot dogs and apple pie and patriotism.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it’s officially summer

Wow. How is it Friday already?

I guess that’s one of the things about summer. All the days just blend together and there isn’t much difference between a Tuesday and a Thursday. And then maybe you spend all day thinking Wednesday is Tuesday. And before you know it another week has gone by.

    Or maybe it’s just me.

Anyway, it works out that today is Friday because I spent all day yesterday by myself because Caroline went to the ranch with P and there is no way I can make my day of running errands sound interesting.

So, here are a few cute things I’ve seen this week.

    1. phoenix rising top

I saw this a few weeks ago at Anthropologie and thought it would look so great with white jeans. And now it’s on sale. Which means it would look even better with white jeans.

    2. mexican embroidered tunic/dress

Speaking of things that would look good with white jeans, I love any sort of Mexican embroidered top. Especially if it comes down a little long like a tunic.

    3. embrace scarf

I know it’s 152 degrees here right now, but sometimes an outfit still needs some accessorizing. This scarf is the perfect thing because it’s lightweight and such a great color.

    4. pink jersey ruffle bottom dress

I am such a fan of a dress in the summer because it eliminates all the issues I have with shorts. Plus, it’s one step dressing. Like Garanimals for adults.

    5. sabrina strapless dress

This is such a gorgeous color. I can just see it paired with some turquoise jewelry and worn to dinner during some fabulous vacation on an island somewhere.

If that is in your future, can I go with you?

    6. free spirit tiered maxi

Several of you have asked about a maxi dress that isn’t quite so bare. I think this one is perfect. It’s long and comfortable, but with a little more coverage.

    7. striped jersey skirts

I saw this skirt in Old Navy yesterday except it was white and orange striped. I like it better in those colors, but they didn’t show those colors online. So just picture it in your head. And maybe go see if they have it at your local store.

    8. liberty one-shoulder dress

    \

I realize all these stripes and navy and one-shouldered business might not be for everyone, but I saw this and just thought it was too cute not to feature. My deepest wish is that someone, somewhere, would be able to rock this dress. And then tell me how that feels.

    9. bahia hobo

Cute, cute summer bag. And it’s on sale.

    10. diagonal stripe jersey tank

Old Navy also had these darling tanks with diagonal stripes in various colors. I thought they were darling.

And speaking of Old Navy tanks, this weekend (IN STORES ONLY) is the Old Navy tank top event. All tanks for only $2.00. TWO DOLLARS. You could buy them and use them as dust cloths.

Assuming you’re not like me and actually dust from time to time.

    Y’all have a great Friday.
