All roads lead to Rome. Or my hair.

You know what else I totally forgot to mention over the last few days? The cover of US Weekly that is declaring “A BABY FOR CHRISTMAS!” from Kate and Wills.

A few of you emailed to tell me it looks like I’ve won my bet with my friend at Starbucks. And I wholeheartedly agree. In fact, I walked into Starbucks on Monday morning and told him he owes me a cup of coffee because there is a bun in the royal oven.

He asked me for my source and when I said US Weekly he told me he was going to need me to cite a more reliable source. As if that even exists. What more could he want? A phone call from Pippa?

But, listen. I’m a fair person. I don’t want to claim my free grande peppermint mocha through false information. So I agreed we could wait for a more official source.

In the meantime we have a new bet as to whether or not Johnny Manziel will win the Heisman. I think you all know how I feel about that.

And, in other news, P thinks I might need to find a new Starbucks since my usual one has turned me into some sort of pop culture bookie.

Speaking of Princess Kate, I need to talk about hair. Specifically, hair products.

A few weeks ago I mentioned a hair revelation in the form of Kenra Thermal Styling Spray. I don’t expect any of you to really remember it because you have more important things to do with your life than worrying about my hair. However, I don’t have more important things to do with my life than worrying about my hair. Unless you count the fact that P was out of Natural White Cheddar Cheetos on Monday and needed me to go to HEB immediately to rectify the situation.

You’ll be glad to know it turned out all right. It was scary there for a moment.

Anyway, what I said was that I’d learned the secret to lasting curl and, therefore, lasting happiness is a 1.5 inch Hot Tools curling iron and Kenra Thermal Styling Spray.

Then, in one of the best things that has ever happened to me, the nice people at Kenra offered to send me a few more products to try. They didn’t even ask me to do anything for them in return which was so nice because I hate the pressure of a review. I mean, what if I hate the product? What do I do then?

But I have loved everything so much that I have to tell you about my favorites, in addition to the thermal styling spray that already had my love and devotion.

This is in no certain order. It would be like choosing a favorite child.

1. platinum blow-dry spray

Okay, this claims to decrease the amount of time it takes to blow dry your hair while also offering protection from the heat. It’s also supposed to help with frizz and humidity.

But who cares about all that? Because did you read the part about decreasing your blow dry time?

And it totally does. This has possibly been life-changing for me because it takes a sweet forever to dry my hair and this has absolutely made a difference. I love it. I’ll never be without it again.

2. platinum dry shampoo

This might be my favorite. I know I said I didn’t have a favorite, but if Vidal Sassoon held a gun to my head and made me choose, this is it. Last week my hair really needed to be washed, but I didn’t realize it was too late to do anything about it. Then I remembered I had dry shampoo and LO AND BEHOLD a miracle occurred.

It wasn’t quite the fishes and loaves, but it helped me in my time of hair need by giving me extra volume and the illusion of clean hair. LOVE.

3. volume spray 25

Best hairspray ever. It’s got the hold of Aqua Net but without the smell. But it’s not like a hairnet hold, it’s just enough to make curl stay all day and give me volume when I pull it back in a ponytail or something. I’ll buy it again and again.

So there you have it. My new can’t live without hair products. And I’m even including a picture of my hair even though there’s a good chance P will see it and make fun of me because I can’t manage to smile and take a picture of myself at the same time.

Also, my forehead looks big. And some Retin A might be in order.

Which brings me back around to my bangs or no bangs dilemma.

Because there are always new hair problems to be solved.

Your hair looks lovely! I must get the dry shampoo. I confess to sprinkling cornstarch in my hair when really desperate, which works mainly because I’m blonde. I don’t recommend it when wearing black though. Suffice it to say it’d be quicker to just break down and shower.

  2. Mary says

Woah baby! Now that is a serious ‘do! I have hair envy. Lots of it. Also, my hair is the longest it has ever been and I am finally understanding the people who complain about drying time. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Ps, I tried to come up with a way to describe the length of my hair but how does one do that without getting graphic?

You’re killing me! I e-mailed the company after your first post and was all, ‘I need to find this stuff overseas PRONTO, because Big Mama tells me it is awesome.’ To which they replied, ‘Sorry… not sold overseas, you’ll have to wait until you visit the USA.’ Which brings me to my next point… thank you for adding a trip to Ulta to our Christmas plans. It will surely get me out of a board game (or 5) with my in-laws.

Lessen the blow dry time – I’m there! The economic crisis could be solved in the amount of time it takes to blow-dry my hair. Maybe if I could lessen the blow dry time – I would have time to do it! :) YOUR HAIR LOOKS GORGEOUS! Do you use any mousse, gel, etc?

  6. Whitney says

Girl, Rayna James would be jealous of that hair! Looks great! I have very short choppy hair, but the Kenra thermal spray is also one of my favorites.

  7. Colorado says

Great hair Big Mama! I also use Kenra products and love the shampoo for color treated hair. At age 50+ I need all the hair help I can get.
Now about P and his cheetos….. if HE is out of HIS snacks, then why did YOU have to go to the store?? Hmmmm?

  8. Chelsea says

I love Kenra hairspray, but it is so strong that the nozzle keeps getting clogged! I just run it under hot water and occasionally scrub the nozzle with my husband’s toothbrush. :)

A friend of mine went to Adele’s wedding at the end of July or August, I can’t remember. Anyway, the Prince and Kate were there and they confirmed at that time that the princess was expecting a baby.
So there you go, all the way from Minnesota!

You. Are. Hilarious. Your hair looks great! I think the Eric Estrada cir. CHiPS sunglasses added an extra “bang!” too. ;o)

  12. Kristen says

That is some good hair! I am going to have to try some of those products. You and Kate have convinced me!

  13. BethA says

Okay, Melanie. Kate has side bangs. Saw it this morning. What to do, what to do? I know you agonize over bangs like I do!

  14. Christa says

Oh my word! Gorgeous hair! I am going to try some of this product. Faster drying time sounds great. We are going to Chicago and my husband HATES waiting for me to get ready. I already have shorter hair so maybe this will help too. I love bangs and really think a lot of women would benefit from them. Cheap Botox;)

  15. tammy says

You need to put you up some kind of Amazon link. I just bought some dry shampoo and blow-dry spray, and I wish I could’ve have made you a few pennies with my purchase!

And now would be a great time to thank you for introducing me to Carol & Co; she is awesome and I love the Lenny and Eva jewelry!

  16. says

I just love you and your hilarious blog posts! But I had to comment on your gorgeous hair because wow, Kate’s got some stiff competition!! Also, I think you would rock side swept bangs. Do it!

Love those glasses and your hair looks great! I cannot wait for our itty bitty duchess to get pregnant, just because I want to be shocked by how fabulous she makes maternity clothes look.

  18. says

I was having some bang or no bang issues myself and in my Bible study yesterday was reminded of this scripture…And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered…Matthew 10:29…sure made me feel better…He cares!

  19. Nicole says

The ‘Hairspray 25’ looks like what Theresa the Long Island Medium uses. Seriously! And THAT Is some serious hold. Love her!

  22. Kelly says

I have used their platnium blow dry spray for some time and I agree that it cuts dry time significantly!! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!

  23. says

A couple of months ago I bought my first can of Kenra hairspray. I love the hold and when it went on, I liked the smell.

Then my hubby took me out on a lunch date to one of our favorite Mexican places. When we got home, I had to change my shirt because it smelled like old Mexican food. I assumed it was from the restaurant. Then, after I’d changed my shirt, I could still smell the smell. I realized that it was my HAIR that smelled like old Mexican food. And it wasn’t old Mexican food, it was the Kenra.

I’d paid the most amount of money I’ve ever paid for that bottle of hairspray, so I had to endure it. I think I’m used to the ‘after-smell’ now. Either that, or it’s been way too long since I’ve had Mexican food.

  24. Kelly S says

Your hair looks FANTASTIC. Kate and Pippa could learn a thing or two. Seriously, well done.

You could be a hair model. Just sayin’

  25. Donna Small says

Actually I do remember. I have loved Kenra hair spray for some time so when I ready your blog I bought the thermal spray & have used it ever since. I have been wanting to try a dry shampoo so guess that will be next!! Thanks for the info. Now if I just had your hair instead of my fine yucky hair.

  26. Valerie says

Your hair is fabulous. I wish you would do a tutorial on how you curl your hair…I have used the same products as you but my curls just don’t look the same. Major hair envy!

  27. says

Thanks for the review! I just sent links of all 4 things to my hubby for stocking stuffers:) The blow dry spray and dry shampoo could seriously make my life wonderful! I need all the hair help I can get! But inquiring minds need to know how you get your curls. Is it one of those wands or a regular curling iron and what size? I love how soft it is!

  28. Lisa says

You are beautiful but I cant get past the CHiP’s glasses. Pancho had a pair of those ages ago. I guess they are not out of style yet?
