Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Caroline. She had a great day and, based on the way she crashed out late Monday afternoon, may already be in the process of growing three more inches. I will tell you that we bought her a new pair of cowboy boots for her birthday and had to go exchange them for a size and a half larger than she was wearing a month ago.
Anyway, it’s August. Just in case you didn’t know. And that means we’re at the tail end of summer so I’m just going to give the disclaimer that I’m probably not going to be posting as often over the next couple of weeks so we can soak up every minute. Life has felt so busy since Nobody’s Cuter came out in April and I just want to take a little bit to catch my breath before all the craziness of the school year gets going.
All that being said, Sophie and I are planning to record a podcast tomorrow if all goes according to plan. And I may still do Fashion Friday because fall clothes are my favorite and all the stores are beginning to get in their fall things.
But everybody needs a little time away. I’ve heard her say. From each other. Even lovers need a holiday, far away from each other.
Which just goes to show that, much like in middle school, my feelings are best expressed through the lyrical stylings of Chicago.
Here are a few things you may be interested in:
1. The Chipelada
Listen. I will be the first to say that sometimes the chip people get carried away with all the various chip flavors. But the Chipelada is a chip masterpiece. Gulley found them at HEB the other day and bought a bag for me because she knows me so well and knew these would make my life complete.
And for those of you who aren’t familiar, a michelada is a drink that’s basically spicy tomato juice, a couple of dashes of worcestershire sauce, lime juice and beer over ice. It’s one of my favorite things ever.
2. Books I’ve Read
Y’all. I have plowed through some books this summer and here are the latest on the list.
What Remains by Carole Radziwill – This is such an incredible memoir. Carole Radziwill is the widow of Anthony Radziwill and was best friends with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. She lost her best friend and her husband within three weeks of each other. And while the story fascinated me, it was her writing that totally drew me in. It’s just beautifully written.
Wife 22 by Melanie Gideon – I thought this was okay. It was a quick read but I guessed how it was going to end before I was halfway through and then it just kind of lost its appeal.
Secrets of A Charmed Life by Susan Meissner – I’m a sucker for anything that has to do with World War II and so I really enjoyed this book. It’s a sweet, heartbreaking story of two sisters in London during the war.
Happily Ali After by Ali Wentworth – I fell in love with Ali Wentworth when I watched her on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jerry Seinfeld. I just thought she seemed hilarious and real and this book made me love her even more. She’s funny and doesn’t take herself seriously, two qualities I really admire in a person.
For the Love by Jen Hatmaker – This doesn’t release until August 18, but I preordered a copy and got an advance PDF copy. Trust me when I tell you that you’ll want to read this book. Jen is so dadgum funny and I’d read the whole thing again just to read the chapter on how leggings aren’t pants, but there is also so much truth and goodness woven throughout that makes this a must read.
Next up, I’ve got The Light Between Two Oceans and The Invention of Wings.
I’m also watching The West Wing for the first time ever and at the end of season one. It’s safe to say I’ve achieved some life goals this summer.

4. Nobody’s Cuter Than You Audio Version
It’s true. There is an audio version and it’s my voice doing all the talking.
And I have three copies of the audio version that I’m giving away today. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post for a chance to win. I’ll keep comments open until Sunday at noon and then choose three winners at random. Maybe you can tell me your favorite Chicago song just to bring this post full circle.
Have a great day.
