We interrupt this weekend…

May 22, 2009

I normally don’t post on the weekends, but I felt like there were a few crucial pieces of information I needed to share.

First of all, look who changed her mind about the madras plaid shorts. I could eat her up.

img_6607

Secondly, I ran by Gap to see if they had put a shirt on sale that I’ve had my eye on. Sadly, it’s still full price. However, they are having a 3-day sale on shorts. All shorts are $25.00 through May 25.

I felt like I wouldn’t be a true friend if I didn’t share this information.

Lastly, I am saddened for all of you who have never experienced peanut butter Rice Krispie treats and feel that needs to be remedied toot suite so here is the recipe.

(I thought about making some so I could include pictures but then I lost my motivation. Not to mention that it’s about as foolproof as boiling water.)

Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats

1 cup light Karo syrup
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup sugar
6 cups Rice Krispies

In a large pot combine syrup, peanut butter and sugar over medium-low heat. Stir until thoroughly mixed together and smooth.

Remove from heat and add in Rice Krispies.

Pour into buttered 9 x13 pan and press down with buttered spatula.

Eat them until entire pan is gone which will probably be about six minutes later.

Oh, the madras shorts are beyond cute! And the peanut butter rice krispie treats? Cruel and undeniably delicious punishment for reading your blog. How can you give a hot sale tip for shorts in the same darn blog entry as this recipe? And is it possible to curse and praise you at the same time?

2 Joy May 22, 2009 at 10:47 pm

So cute! A love of khaki and plaid shorts…she has a well rounded sense of fashion!

3 Sturgmom May 22, 2009 at 11:03 pm

Thanks (or not) for the recipe! Top those babies with some nutella and you’ve got a treat that will make me about 50 lbs. heavier just by looking at them.

4 Hannah Royall May 22, 2009 at 11:04 pm

Okay- I’m a strong STRONG believer in the PB rice krisp1e treats. Growing up, that was the only way my mom ever made them. I thought there was something wrong with the regular ones the first (and several subsequent times) I had them. It’s just not the same without the peanut butter.

5 Tiffany @ Paging Doctor Mommy May 22, 2009 at 11:05 pm

She is so cute in those shorts!

6 Christy May 22, 2009 at 11:10 pm

adorable! One can never go wrong with pink in my book :)

PB Rice Krispies rock! My brother loves them so much he learned how to make them :)

I am still quite partial to the marshmallow one’s but my Mum, borther, and sister-in-law can eat a pan of the PBRK’s in one sitting…crazy!

have a fabulous weekend.

7 Christina May 22, 2009 at 11:11 pm

Caroline is too cute. And so are those shorts!
My mom always says that kids live to make a liar out of you. Right after I say my kids won’t eat carrots, they walk into the kitchen and ask for some baby carrots with ranch, and can they have some cooked carrots with dinner.
Have a restful weekend!

8 Junglewife May 22, 2009 at 11:26 pm

Too cute! The shorts are adorable.

The PB Rice Krispies sound tasty – I make a variation called Scotcheroos and it’s basically the same except you also put either chocolate (like melted chocolate chips) or chocolate mixed with butterscotch (also melted chips) spread on top. Yum!!!

9 MooBeeMa May 22, 2009 at 11:33 pm

Why oh WHY do I keep reading this BLOG! First, it made me have bladder control issues and NOW it’s threatening to clog my arteries too? DANG! Do they make a patch for quitting the Big Mama Blog??

10 Shelly W May 22, 2009 at 11:45 pm

Oh my gosh! That’s the ONLY way I make Rice Krispy treats (except I use brown sugar instead of white–it’s healthier that way). Yum!

Those shorts are adorable, and so’s the little girl! :)

11 Kimberly May 23, 2009 at 12:54 am

Sounds yummy I can’t wait to try them.

12 Teresa May 23, 2009 at 1:23 am

I have enjoyed reading your blog.
I am new to the blog world, but have seen the miracle of the blogging community and prayer in the last two days. Hope you will stop by my blog and pray for little Maggie.

13 Geri C May 23, 2009 at 2:05 am

Cute shorts on Girly! Thanks for the sale info!

14 Lisa May 23, 2009 at 2:25 am

Oh my, you girl is too cute. I made your pizza last weekend and it was the BEST pizza i have ever made. Thanks for sharing.

15 Rena May 23, 2009 at 2:31 am

There are people out there who have NEVER had peanut butter Rice Krispie treats?

They’re the “real” Rice Krispie treat in my opinion.

I LOVE peanut butter! We go way back. I shudder at thought of those with peanut allergies. What kind of life is that?

16 Jenilee May 23, 2009 at 5:52 am

love the recipe… they sound SO GOOD!!!

17 Michelle May 23, 2009 at 6:21 am

She is the sweetest little girl…..wow, I can see how you melt! Those eyes! That smile. How blessed you are!

But I will have to say that I feel a Shred sabotage coming on with posting that recipe!
(as I copy/paste with plans of making it for tomorrow’s cookout)

Have a wonderful and safe weekend~

I see Caroline is still doing her famous Caroline pose when she agrees to have her picture taken.

She is so darlin’.

My mom used to make peanut-butter Special K bars – - – very similar to your recipe, only you use Special K instead of Crispies and spread melted chocolate chips over the top when you’re finished. They were my fave. Well, ONE of my faves anyway.

19 Mary May 23, 2009 at 7:15 am

thanks for the recipe! that sounds similar to my “puppy paws” recipe…but use cocoa puffs instead of rice krispies and drop spoonfuls on wax paper to cool. YUM!

20 shelly May 23, 2009 at 7:34 am

$1 flip flops at old navy all day saturday

21 Becky May 23, 2009 at 7:35 am

Junglewife beat me to the punch! You have to melt the chocolate and butterscotch chips and put them on top. Scotcheros all the way!!

22 Becky May 23, 2009 at 7:36 am

Oh yea! Forgot to agree how adorable your girl is and thanks for the sales tips. Some rain in the forecast here this weekend so hope to squeeze in some shopping!

23 Barbara H. May 23, 2009 at 7:39 am

LOVE peanut butter Rice Krispie treats — in fact, that’s the only way I make them any more. Only I use the traditional recipe with marshmallows and margarine and just ad peanut butter to it.

I also melt chocolate chips (and toss in a few peanut butter chips if I have them) and pour that over the tops. Luscious!

24 Michelle May 23, 2009 at 8:49 am

Madras shorts, sales info, and peanut butter rice krispie treats (which I’ve never had), all in one post…love it!

25 Heather May 23, 2009 at 9:26 am

Thanks for sharing the recipe! You are most definitely a true friend :) !

I too could not consider myself a true friend if I didn’t let you know that adding a can of chocolate frosting to the top of the peanut butter rice krispie treats once they have cooled slightly, makes them even more delish than they already are! Crazy I know – but very, very true!

26 Bethany May 23, 2009 at 10:09 am

OOOHHHH….the peanut butter rice krispies sound so scrumdidiliumptious!
And Caroline in the shorts is too cute for words! You are a blessed woman indeed :)
Have a blessed weekend!

27 Hopefulmom May 23, 2009 at 10:16 am

Mercy sakes, you reminded me of my favorites…Chocolate Scotcheroos! You’re leaving the best part off of the recipe! Melt 1 cup semisweet choc chips and 1 c butterscotch chips in a saucepan over low heat. Pour over top and allow to cool to set the chocolate mixture. Absolutely heavenly! Here’s a link to the recipe: http://www.allhomemadecookies.com/recipes/browniesbars/chocolatescotcheroos.htm

28 Erica May 23, 2009 at 10:20 am

I love those! (The shorts and the dessert). In Minnesota we call them scotcharoos.

29 Barb @ A Chelsea Morning May 23, 2009 at 10:23 am

Thanks for the recipe – I’m one of those people you’re feeling sorry for. That’s about to change.

She looks cute as can be in those shorts – madras brings back tons of memories.

And I’m pretty excited that Shelly just let us know flip flops are on sale for $1 at Old Navy all day today. I’m on my way!

30 Jamie May 23, 2009 at 12:24 pm

She looks so cute! And I am sure the recipe is fat free and calorie free, right????

31 Amanda @ Serenity Now May 23, 2009 at 12:52 pm

She is so stinkin’ cute! Love the pose! ;)

Thanks for the recipe. I bet my husband (ok, really me) would love to try them! :) Have a great weekend!

32 Carol May 23, 2009 at 3:04 pm

How have I never had PB rice krispies before? I read the post, walked to the kitchen, and made them immediately. My children thank you, my bottom doesn’t.

33 Mel Black May 23, 2009 at 4:10 pm

The Rice Krispie Treats recipe from the box (with marshmallows) is wonderful with a cup of p’nut butter added, too! It’s the only way my mom made them, so the only way I’VE made them!

34 kelli May 23, 2009 at 5:02 pm

and? Kati mentioned she found flip fllps at Old Navy for just a buck!

Run, don’t walk…

35 Melanie May 23, 2009 at 5:36 pm

Karo syrup and peanut butter. I feel the protein balances out the carbs. Don’t you?

36 everydayMOM May 23, 2009 at 6:07 pm

I must be soooo cheap! I wouldn’t consider $25 for shorts a “sale”. (I guess that’s why I have to stick to Old Navy!) =]

37 Liz May 23, 2009 at 7:20 pm

Love the shorts- what a cutie!! :) Glad you convinced her!

38 Lynne' May 23, 2009 at 7:58 pm

My grandmother makes all kinds of goodies, and she has her own twist on the PBRKT – instead of Rice Krispies, use Corn Flakes. It sounds a little odd, but it is OH SO GOOD! And we call them Corn Flake Cookies…..ladies, you heard it here 1st!

39 Kristina May 23, 2009 at 8:52 pm

I grew up w/ PB in my rice krispy treats. My hubby thinks they are gross that way…I think they are SUPER bland w/out PB. What’s a girl to do?!?! Well, usually the PB wins! My recipe calls for butter, marshmallows, rice krisp, and PB though. HOWEVER, the best EVER are made with PB and COCOA KRISPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YUMM-O!!

40 Stacey May 23, 2009 at 10:29 pm

Hi. Followed your blog from compassion. Your daughter is too cute and I love the shorts!

Thanks for posting the pb recipe. I was going to buy some rice crispy treats recently till I saw that they were made with dairy stuffs in them. I’ll definitely be trying this version!

41 Monica May 24, 2009 at 6:52 pm

Our family loves these yummy treats but we use chex cereal and then we drizzle the top with melted chocolate. Yummy!

42 Rebecca May 24, 2009 at 9:52 pm

instead of rice krispies, use corn flakes….OMG!!!

43 Tatersmama May 24, 2009 at 10:03 pm

Those shorts are adorable!!! I want me some!

I used to always make RKT’s for my kids, but I was smart. I would make one pan for them and one for me, but I never told them that…so Shhhhh!
But making them with peanut butter? OMG, I wish I had some Rice Krispies right now!

And now reading the comments and thinking Chex.. cornflakes… Cocoa Krispies…. chocolate chips…
I’m probably gonna end up hating you all, but hey, a girl only lives once… right?

44 Sandy Cooper May 24, 2009 at 11:09 pm

OOOOOOhhhh…I was just at the Gap today and bought two pairs!!! And all their tanks are $10, so I bought like a thousand!!

And Banana Republic has all full priced items 30% off. So I bought some full priced items.

Yum!!
Sandy

45 The Gonzo Mama May 25, 2009 at 3:19 pm

…and what a great thing that she did change her mind! Too cute!

It’s such a relief that madras is making a comeback. I think I’ve held on to my clothes long enough that they just might be stylish again.

46 Amy May 25, 2009 at 8:33 pm

My grandmother used to make those PB rice krispie treats. They’re even better with melted choc chips spread over the top.

47 Jacque May 26, 2009 at 10:00 am

I made your recipe on Saturday. YUMMY!

48 Amy May 27, 2009 at 9:15 am

That is the same recipe my great grandma used and the only way that I have ever made mine. Topped with melted chocolate chips and peanut butter chips and chilled, you can’t beat ‘em. The marshmallow ones are just all wrong when this is what you’ve grown up on! LOL

49 Sally May 27, 2009 at 12:58 pm

My 14-year-old daughter made PB treats using Cocoa Krispies and entered them in our county fair last fall (her first entry ever.) She won a 1st place blue ribbon and also an Outstanding ribbon, so I guess the judges loved the chocolate/PB combination!!

50 Jada May 31, 2009 at 9:53 pm

When my friend makes peanut butter Rice Krispies, she drizzles melted chocolate over them! They are to die for!
