On an entirely different note

October 1, 2009

Last week I mentioned I went shopping with my friend, Steph. While we were out and about we happened to wander into Gap and both decided to try on the boyfriend jeans just for kicks.

To our surprise, we both really liked them. Granted, part of the love might have had something to do with the fact that we were both able to wear a size smaller than we normally wear, but they were also pretty dang cute. Neither of us actually ended up buying them, but I saw Steph last night and she told me she bought a different pair of boyfriend jeans that she found at Nordstrom.

I’m still on the fence about them. They’re very comfortable (but so are purple sweatpants and that doesn’t mean they’re right), however, they may require things like a belt and a shirt that actually tucks in and I’m not sure I’m ready for the commitment.

Is it just me or are these kind of cute minus those shoes which I wouldn’t wear with them because I’m not twenty-five and am also not looking to twist my ankle while volunteering in the classroom at Caroline’s school?

And while we’re on the subject of shoes I wouldn’t wear, check out P’s new snake boots that he bought last weekend.

I think the embossed leather snake baring his fangs on the side really gives them that extra something special.

Hunter Hubs would be so jealous. It is that time of year isn’t it:o)

Boyfriend Jeans- Well I’m 27 and I wouldn’t wear those shoes…. Anyway, love my pair of boyfriend jeans, so comfy and casual. I wear mine with flip-flops and flats. Get some, so worth it!

Hey now. Not every 25 year old has a lack of common sense and taste in the shoe department. Plus, if I ever saw anyone who wasn’t walking a runway in Milan wearing shoes like that, with pants rolled up above the ankle (and not in a “oh, these pants are too long, so I’m going to roll them up with an extra large cuff to look like I’m wearing capris but am entirely too smart to actually buy capris” kind of way), rest assured that I’d sneeze really hard in her direction in order to topple over that 96 lb fashion disaster.

I’m going to sport mine tomorrow & I’ll let you know if anyone thinks I’m 25. If so, then we need to buy 10 pair!!!

5 Keyona October 1, 2009 at 6:16 am

I too think the boyfriend jeans are super cute but just too much work. Now I found the purple pants at Target and think there has to be a way for a pregnant girl to pull them off. They are TOO comfy to pass up!

I got some boyfriend jeans this last spring from Ann Taylor Loft and ohmyword I love them. I’ve unrolled the bottom to wear them normally, and also worn them rolled up — so so cute!

Those “Boyfriend” jeans are a complete waste of money as far as I am concerned. I couldn’t bear the thought of plunking down a wad of cash on a pair of pants that looked as if they’d been around since Michael Jackson was black.

Instead, I perused the racks at the local thrift store until I, no joke, found a pair by the same manufacturer that looked identical to the ones I’d found at the mall with a substantially larger price tag.

They are so comfortable and have that real “broken in” feeling, which is the exact reason I also like to buy t-shirts at the thrift store.

I found something better than boyfriend jeans – my 19 year old sons jeans that no longer fit him!! I think they are cute and so comfy – I just can’t tell him they were his castoffs. That would definitely disturb him!

9 Amanda @ Serenity Now October 1, 2009 at 6:46 am

The boyfriend jeans look amazing on that model, but they’d make me look like a dumpy, lumpy mess.

Gotta love those snake boots…stylish and utilitarian. ;)

10 Becky October 1, 2009 at 7:03 am

Thumbs up on both! It must be nice to be able to shop for jeans that aren’t made of material that stretch! :)

11 Rachel October 1, 2009 at 7:04 am

I don’t do boyfriend jeans or skinny jeans. Give me a nice bootcut and I am gold.
Thanks for pointing out the snake fangs on the boots, I wouldn’t have noticed it otherwise!

12 Rena October 1, 2009 at 7:11 am

I’m totally loving those boyfriend jeans! I do believe they are the answer to the new jeans I’ve been looking for!

(Interrupts comment to write note to get jeans, scrolls back up to stare at picture of jeans. HUGE GRIN.)

YIKES! Sorry, when I scrolled back down and saw that boot, I thought it was going to jump off the screen and bite me.

What I think is funny about P’s boots is that he just bought them last weekend but they already look nice and worn in. :)

I ordered some maternity jeans from Gap that ended up looking like the boyfriend pants and I just couldn’t do it – had to send them back. They weren’t very flattering even though they were so comfortable. I can just imagine as I continue to get bigger that they would be even less appealing.

14 Jessica October 1, 2009 at 7:18 am

I take it the snake is for fashion sense only and not actually camouflage? Or are there quite a few brown leather snakes when he is hunting? I think Caroline needs some in pink and purple to go with her gun.

15 beckypdj October 1, 2009 at 7:27 am

I like P’s boots.

16 Shelly Muhlig October 1, 2009 at 7:27 am

The snake boots are more my style!

17 Jan Ross October 1, 2009 at 7:39 am

The boyfriend jeans I have seen were very baggy and unattractive – those are kind of cute. Slightly worn – cute. Worn so they have holes in them – tacky.

18 Traci@TotalMomsense October 1, 2009 at 7:41 am

Very nice!

19 wanda October 1, 2009 at 7:43 am

I love the boyfriend jeans! They really feel amazing too!

I like the look….but the snake boots? Naaaaah! Not my style! :)

20 Mary October 1, 2009 at 7:48 am

I did break down and buy some boyfriend jeans but only because I found some at Old Navy, (cheap, may not last long but neither will the trend???) and I wear them almost every day. I really love them!

Love the snake boots. My man would want some if I showed him.

21 Holly October 1, 2009 at 7:49 am

Oh those are some snazzy boots. You just don’t see those everywhere. Brings me back to my s. Tex. days. Have you ever been to the rattlesnake roundup? Everyone should see it once!

22 rrmama October 1, 2009 at 8:05 am

I want the “boyfriend” blazer/jacket. I haven’t tried it on yet and I’m hoping it doesn’t let me down!

23 Michelle October 1, 2009 at 8:06 am

I like the boyfriend jeans because unfortunately I’m built somewhat like
a boy, especially in the hip/waist area.
Since they’re a straighter cut through
that area I have a fighting chance of
actually looking cute in a pair of jeans!
I wouldn’t pair them with sandals though,
flats look much better.

24 Nicki October 1, 2009 at 8:29 am

I feel like Fashion Friday came early this week, and I love it!!!! :)

25 Natalie October 1, 2009 at 8:33 am

Oh My Goodness those boots are HOT! I am glad you pointed out the snake thing because it totally would have gone unnoticed to me. I wondered at first why they were snake boots! My husband owns way too many pairs of camo boots, but I can assure you none of them have a snake with a huge fang on them. If they in fact had a moose he would be all over them!

26 Kristyn Mostek October 1, 2009 at 9:09 am

I will admit I bought a pair of boyfriend jeans. Late this summer Old Navy had jeans for $19 and I had a $10 reward card, so for $9 I couldn’t pass them up. They are very comfy and I love wearing them to the college football games. It makes me feel younger, although the college girls are wearing short, short denim skirts and t-shirts all blinged out ala Flashdance style. So I guess I won’t be mistaken for one of them.

27 Karen October 1, 2009 at 9:10 am

Do boyfriend jeans do the dreaded back gap thing? I’m in need of jeans, but keep putting it off hoping I’ll gain five pounds of fat where most jeans think I need it–at the lower back.

The boots? Awesome. My 19 year old daughter would totally wear them with her skinny jeans tucked in.

28 Heather October 1, 2009 at 9:37 am

After seeing those boots, I believe P needs to do an edition of Fashion Friday!! :)

29 Melanie October 1, 2009 at 9:45 am

It looks like the snake had his nose pierced.

30 Cari October 1, 2009 at 9:45 am

Not loving the boyfriend jeans. Anything baggy and rolled up is usually not flattering unless you have legs up to your armpits and way less than 90 pounds. Clearly that model qualifies. Praying my husband doesn’t walk in and see the snake boots cause he would HAVE to have them.

31 suburbancorrespondent October 1, 2009 at 9:48 am

They’re cute if you are stick-thin. I’m not. Never have been, never will be…

32 Cheri October 1, 2009 at 10:03 am

Frankly, being a “woman of size”, having jeans with “a shirt tucked in” isn’t in the cards. I go for comfort, albeit is something made THIS millenia, rather than what is “IN” at the moment. Sometimes I wish we gals could just dress like the guys – a good pair of jeans or slacks, shirt and every once in a while a jacket. Certainly would be cheaper and more comfy to boot.

Obviously I am NOT of the “pain in beauty is expected” camp. Life’s too short to ruin my feet for the sake of having someone say, “Wow, those are killer heels!” (even if they are – I mean, KILLING my feet).

I’m officially a “fuddy duddy”. Please be nice to me when you see me at Target… :)

33 Racer October 1, 2009 at 10:45 am

Love the jeans, and I also love the shoes, but not for volunteering in a class.

34 Lindsee October 1, 2009 at 11:00 am

I bought those boyfriend jeans at Gap. Oh yes I did. And I’ve NEVER looked back! Love them.

35 Amy October 1, 2009 at 11:39 am

I really just don’t think I need any more bagginess on my body. The boyfriend jeans seem like they would just highlight all that I don’t want exaggerated any more than it already is!

36 Bonnie Novak October 1, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Yep Big Mama – we already own a lovely pair of snake boots just like that at our house! Aren’t they beauties? But the lovey dovey have already left our country – now on to deer and quail – and all too soon pheasant. Tell P to come up and enjoy some Okie hospitality on us. It is not the Lodge, but it will do.

37 Rebekah October 1, 2009 at 1:49 pm

P’s boots are nearly as hideous as those strappy stilts in the other picture.

38 Daniel Semsen October 1, 2009 at 1:53 pm

As far as the jeans go, I say GO FOR IT.

39 the domestic fringe October 1, 2009 at 2:56 pm

The jeans look comfy! I’d get em.

Snake boots? They make Snake boots? Wow, I must be living in a cave…

I’m still not convinced about the boyfriend jeans. The Gap and I are no longer Facebook friends because of the whole jean restructure of 2001 that I still haven’t reconciled myself to… though that one size smaller thing does make me want to reconsider.

I DIE!

42 Teri October 1, 2009 at 9:08 pm

I do not know how you contain yourself when P wears those boots ;)

43 Libby October 1, 2009 at 11:08 pm

I, too, tried on the boyfriend jeans at Gap. And I didn’t go down a size. So no.

A couple of years ago my boyfriend was developing some land in East Texas. His dad’s birthday is Christmas Day, so they have an extra big celebration. His gift from his dad that year was snake boots, so he could tromp around his land under development. My thought at the time was, “Wow, I hope I never have to go anywhere with him when he’s wearing those creepy snakeskin cowboy boots.” (And, by the way, he had a ranch so I was not unindoctrinated to the ways of the wild west.)

When he showed me the “snake” boots a couple of days later, he got the biggest kick out of my reaction – knowing, he said, from my reaction to his gift story that I thought he was actually going to wear snakeskin cowboy boots. Funny funny.

(But, as a snake hater, I applaud the purpose of the boots!)

44 Tina October 2, 2009 at 2:10 am

I kinda like the boyfriend jeans…at least they aren’t skinny jeans…which I wouldn’t wear if I could fit into a pair…LOL…

45 Julie From Inmates October 2, 2009 at 7:08 am

I didn’t even see that when I looked at them the first time. Nice. =)

46 Amanda @ Serenity Now October 2, 2009 at 7:38 am

Congratulations on the bangs, from a fellow indecisive mama. :) I need a new hair style so badly, but I can’t ever commit…just long and wavy here for now.

$2.50????!!! That is worth me shoving both kids into their car seats and speeding (okay, maybe not speeding) over to ON to check it out. They had some amazing sales on sweater coats and cardigans earlier, but not sure if that sale is still on….

47 Amy B October 2, 2009 at 7:53 am

Not only did I buy a pair of the Gap Boyfriend jeans, I went back for a second because it is just too much work to wash those things everyday so I can keep wearing them. I turn 40 this week so I did question whether or not I was eeking my way past participation in the trend, but they are so comfortable and can be worn so many ways that I couldn’t help myself. Go for it!

48 Heather October 2, 2009 at 10:44 am

Dang it, my husband just saw them, guess we’re getting a pair, too!

49 lindalou October 5, 2009 at 12:42 pm

I went and bought the ultimate boyfriend jean. I went to the Levi outlet store and bought a pair of men’s lowrise, bootcut jeans in one size larger then my regular size. They are officially my favorite jeans. Granted, I don’t wear heels with them, but frankly I rarely wear heels anywhere, if I can avoid it. The best benefit…mens jeans are cheaper than the versions they make for women. Plus bigger pockets. Guys pants have great big pockets.

50 Brickhouse November 11, 2009 at 4:01 pm

Are they jeans for girls with junk in their trunk?
