Dominican Republic unplugged

November 4, 2008 ·

Today during one of our home visits, we got a little impromptu concert by two of the children. This is Misael and his sister Emily and they are both Compassion children.

It was one of the bright spots in a day filled with a lot of heartbreak. I’ll be back with more later, but in the meantime if you’d like to sponsor a child you can click here.

Who is Melanie?

Melanie ShankleMy name is Melanie and, in some strange twist of fate, I’m also known as Big Mama because I started this blog in July of 2006 when my daughter, Caroline, was not quite three years old and I was in the process of convincing her that BIG girls use the potty and BIG girls don’t have pacifiers, thus she thought BIG was the highest compliment in the land and began referring to me as BIG MAMA.Read More

We will never get over all the love and fun we had We will never get over all the love and fun we had at The Big Boo Bowl. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Y’all made it a magical night. 💖
I got home from College Station a few hours ago an I got home from College Station a few hours ago and have been sitting here trying to come up with words to describe The Big Boo Bowl this past Thursday night. Here’s the short version:⁣
⁣
⭐️ MAGIC ⭐️⁣
⁣
When I looked around the venue on Thursday morning with Sophie and Retha, my brain tried to process what was going to happen that night. All I could think was, “I can’t believe this is my job and it all began because two fools met on the internet back in the year of our Lord 2006.”⁣
⁣
My heart is so full. I felt God in the Icehouse on Main that night. The fact that he brought Sophie and me together all those years ago, the fact that so many of y’all listen to whatever nonsense we share every single week, the fact that y’all completely sold out our first live show in less than 48 hours and traveled to College Station from all over, including Oregon, Maine, Wisconsin and GERMANY. What on earth? It blows my mind. ⁣
⁣
I’m so thankful for my real life people who showed up to cheer us on and keep us calm. I’m thankful that we have a community of the kindest, best listeners in the world who get our particular brand of humor, shopping on the internet, and finding the best mascara. And I’m thankful that the weekend ended with a glimmer of hope for the future of Aggie football. ⁣
⁣
WON’T HE DO IT. ⁣
Y’all have asked about merch for so long and, we Y’all have asked about merch for so long and, well, it took us a while to get here. But we are excited to introduce a pop up shop with a holiday collection of Big Boo Cast items. Everything is under $20 and you know free shipping is a lifestyle for us. Store closes on November 17th so get your orders in now. In other words, ADD TO CART. 💙 Link to order in profile.

Weekend highlights: Old friends, a football win, seeing Big march in with the Corps, and pretzels.
