  • Big Boo Cast: Episode 325

This week Sophie and I discuss what we talk about before we actually start recording each week’s episode (Sophie’s mama would say that it’s when we really get into the “nitty gritty”), how P has absolutely been influenced in terms of how he hosts a guys’ weekend, and how legit Texas tacos have made their way to Birmingham. You will not be surprised that we also spend a good deal of time focusing on the latest in college basketball because Joe Lunardi is apparently the boss of us right now.

We have lo, another book update because Sophie has started reading the book about the fairies, and it’s my turn for Five Favorites.

    Hope y’all enjoy!

  • Fashion Friday: Edition

    1. embroidered cap sleeve top

I love an embroidered top and this pink one is so cute for spring and summer. Would look great with white jeans or shorts.

    It’s $79.

    2. kut from the kloth Catherine boyfriend jeans

And if you’re looking for white jeans, you’re not alone. I threw mine out at the end of last summer because they had gotten old and tired. Which seems to be a theme at my house.

Anyway, these are the white version of the Kut From the Kloth boyfriend jeans that I love and look like a promising replacement.

    They’re $94.

    3. gauze tiered maxi dress

Speaking of old and tired, do I feel weird posting a dress from Chico’s? I do.

But am I going to post it anyway because I kind of love it? I am.

I love a gauze dress and this one looks really comfortable and flattering.

    It’s $139.

    4. universal thread boyfriend overalls

I realize not everyone loves overalls the way that I do, but the heart wants what it wants. I really like these white ones from Target and thing they’d look so cute with a colored tank under them or even with just all white.

    They are $40.

    5. dolce vita Pablos sandals

I bought last year’s version of these sandals and they were one of my best purchases of 2022. I wore them all the time and they went with basically everything from dresses to cut off shorts.

They are $120 and come in several different color options. And I don’t mean to create panic, but they completely sold out last year.

    6. ruffle pintuck shirt

This whole pintucked ruffled tailored look is a big trend right now and I’m a fan.

This is on sale for $45 plus an extra 20% off. It also comes in black.

    7. silky maxi shirtdress

I love a good shirtdress and this one is so cute.

It’s on sale for $60 plus an extra 20% off. It also comes in olive green.

    8. penny pull on flare jeans

Here’s a short story no one asked for. I have been wanting some light wash flare jeans, but I want them to be fitted through the leg. This has been more difficult to find than I thought, which I learned after trying several pair. So I was about to order the Spanx flares because I know they fit this description when I remembered these Free People pull on flares that I bought in black many years ago.

So I looked to see if they came in a faded wash and they do.

And they’re $78 which is about half the price of the Spanx flares. They also come in other great color options and are so comfortable on.

    9. Cotopaxi hooded down jacket

So we’ve had some cold days here and Piper and Mabel still like to go on walks no matter how cold it is. And I’ve realized I don’t have a great jacket for both running with dogs and staying warm.

Anyway, this is super cute if you are in the market for such a jacket. It’s 60% off and on sale for $110.

    10. v-neck sleeveless top

I used to have a top like this and I lost it or something. I don’t know. I can’t find it. But I really needed a longer length sleeveless top that I could wear under blazers and such. I love this one because it’s really cute by itself but also works perfectly layered under things. And it’s thin enough that you can tuck it in if you want to.

It comes in a ton of colors and is $28.99.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

Listen – you want hard-hitting issues? Sophie and I are here to deliver them this week. We discuss plumbing problems at Sophie’s house, the situation with basements in Alabama and Texas, Sophie’s run-in with a stomach bug, and our continued affection for this particular college basketball season. BREAKING NEWS, right?

We also share an update on our continued reading progress (yay for books!) and I detail why it’s so difficult to walk her dogs, and it’s Sophie’s turn for Five Favorites.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition Texas weather is broken

So this week we have had a winter storm complete with ice and school closures and it will be 70 degrees by Sunday. Welcome to Texas.

It also feels like the shopping this time of year. Would you like a new sweater or a summer dress? Boots that are on sale or some new sandals? A bathing suit or a ski jacket?

Here are some cute things I found this week that cover all the weather changes.

    1. run towards love maxi dress

This is the kind of dress I love. It’s flowy, it’s bright and it’s easy to wear.

This is $64. It also comes in other colors.

    2. milania dress

This is another really pretty dress for spring and summer.

    It’s $112.

    3. Bernadette maxi dress

This dress has great reviews overall and the long shirtdress trend is really in right now. You could wear this with boots or booties now and sandals later.

    It’s $148.

    4. chambray puff sleeve ruffle top

I love a chambray top and this one is so cute with the ruffles.

    It’s on sale for $39.50.

    5. gathered sleeve jacket

I bought this jacket last week and it’s even better than I hoped. The length is great and the color is perfect. Plus, the gathered sleeve is so cute.

It’s $49.99 and comes in black and navy also.

    6. oversized tunic sweater

This is such a great oversized sweater. It’s soft and long enough to wear with leggings. I love the hot pink and yellow options moving into spring. Would look great paired with white or lighter wash jeans.

    This is $42.99.

    7. gauze vacation shirtdress

If there is a material I’m drawn to right now it’s gauze. It is so forgiving, breathable and just holds its shape so well.

This dress looks really cute and it’s $89. It comes in a mint green and a stripe also.

    8. luna convertible maxi skirt

I saw this skirt in Nordstrom and it stopped me in my tracks. This skirt with a cute tank and denim jacket is the perfect spring outfit.

    It’s $148.

    9. free people jayde cord flare jeans

These corduroy flares are one of my favorite purchases of the year. They are super high waisted but narrow through the legs so an oversized sweater looks great with them.

They are on sale for $68.60.

    10. sabine suede belt

Belts are back. And I love this one from Free People. The buckle is so pretty and the suede is super soft.

This is $38 and comes in other colors.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the last one of January

January is a weird month because it has both seemed to last forever and to have flown by. I’m not sure how that’s possible. But I’m always glad when it’s over because it’s kind of a nothing month in general.

No offense if you love January. I just always think it’s filled with a lot of pressure to start the new year off great and I prefer February when everyone is just more like “well, I gave it a good try”.

Here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. Maeve colette cropped pants

I love these colette pants and I saw this blue color in person this week. It is stunning.

    These are $120.

    2. Aubrey top

It’s hard to beat a cute top that can immediately make jeans look like a great outfit that you pulled together.

    This is $62.

    3. Laney top

I think this is really cute and great to transition into spring.

    It’s $68.

    4. cotton poplin shirt

The oversized button down is my home now. This is a great one from H&M.

It’s $24.99. It comes in several color options and a blue and white stripe which I ordered immediately.

    5. free people dream team hooded cardigan

Well, this is just a great sweater if you’re in the market for a fun, striped sweater. Free People sweaters are typically amazing and I have several in my closet that I’ve owned for years.

This is normally $198 but on sale for $102.97.

    6. Marion eyelet shirt

Yes, I have a white shirt problem. But this is eyelet. And it’s just so pretty.

It’s $118. It also comes in pink.

    7. kut from kloth Catherine boyfriend jeans

I have an older version of these jeans and they are a closet favorite. They look great on and are just a great style.

    They are $99.

    8. 1/4 zip slouchy ribbed sweatshirt

If you’re in need of a good pullover to wear with leggings or jeans, this one is really great.

It comes in a ton of color options and is just $39.99.

    9. billabong free fall wide leg pants

I have been on the hunt for a pair of pink wide leg pants because Old Navy had a pair that completely sold out before I could buy them.

These are really great, have really good reviews and are $85.95.

    10. linen shirt

This is another really pretty shirt from H&M. Love these florals for spring. Groundbreaking.

    This is $49.99.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Big Boo Cast: Episode 322

Sophie and I didn’t intend to sound like we’ve given up this week, but we do talk about the frustrating state of empty nest cooking as well as our ability to remember detailed song lyrics from the 80s while having absolutely no idea where the scissors are. Plus, I share about my weekend in College Station, and Sophie may or may not recite a classic Amy Grant song like it’s a poem.

We also discuss what we’re looking for in the next fiction book we read (epic! sweeping! preferably in an air conditioned setting!), and it’s Sophie’s turn for Five Favorites.

    Enjoy, everybody!
