  • Fashion Friday: Edition it is the middle of November and why do so many people have Christmas decorations up?

I seriously looked at the date yesterday and couldn’t believe it was November 14. I mean I know it in my head somewhere but how are we halfway through November? I feel like I’m going to look up and it’ll be that time of year when I’m still writing 2019 on my checks instead of 2020.

And then the bigger question will be, “Who still uses checks?”

I’m just going to take it as a sign that life is being lived to the fullest over here because we just seem to have a million things going on and the days are flying by. Maybe that’s why I’m leaving the mums and pumpkins on my porch until the day after Thanksgiving like God intended. I’m a “let’s take one season at a time” kind of girl.

Anyway, I have a great discount code for you this week to help you with your Christmas shopping and/or shopping for yourself. You know I love The Ikat Elephant and Heidi has offered us a 20% discount off total purchase today through Sunday. Just use the code BIGMAMA20 at checkout to get your 20% off. I highly recommend this darling camo cardigan that I’ve been wearing nonstop.

It’s super soft and hits below the hips, plus it looks great dressed up over all black over with a simple white t-shirt and jeans. Ikat Elephant also has lots of other cute sweaters, holiday outfits and jewelry that would make great Christmas gifts.

Here are some other cute things I found this week:

    1. rhiannon floral mini dress

I think this dress is pretty and could be perfect for the holidays or Christmas card pictures if you haven’t taken them yet. It’s festive without being over the top and would look great with tall boots or booties.

It’s on sale for $99.95 plus an extra 25% off all sale at Anthropologie right now.

    2. sequin jacket

Gulley’s grandmother, Nena, had a sequin jacket just like this that she bought at a garage sale. It is one of my saddest experiences that none of us could find it in her closet after she passed away because who doesn’t need a sequin jacket just in case a roller derby or a party breaks out?

This one is on sale at Amazon for $29.99 and I really think I’m going to buy it. It would be so cute with jeans for a Christmas party. It also comes in silver.

I feel I should also let you know that Nena didn’t wear her sequin jacket with a tube top. That’s probably a good rule of thumb for all of us.

    3. meet me at the cabin plaid poncho cardigan

This is such a great poncho with a tie waist option. Perfect for the holidays and just $34. It also comes in red plaid.

    4. without limits boots

I’ve been looking for boots like these and this pair is a great option for $46. They are rugged without being too furry or over the top Lumberjackish. They also come in taupe.

    5. wubby fleece pullover

This would make a great Christmas gift because everyone needs at least one wubby fleeece pullover. It’s on sale for $49.90 and it also comes in gray, although I prefer this white.

    6. gulfport pullover

This is a Free People top and has great reviews. It would be perfect with jeans and booties. It’s $78. It also comes in almond and cocoa but apparently I’m all about white/cream tops today.

    7. old navy loose fit french terry sweatshirt

I bought this in black and it’s my favorite. The length is perfect with leggings and even long enough that you don’t have to worry about pulling it down. It’s warm but lightweight and I love it so much that I want it in other colors.

It comes in several color options and everything at Old Navy is 40% off right now.

    8. loft waffle hoodie sweater

Well. It’s another white top. But this one is a WAFFLE HOODIE. Who can pass that up?

It’s $59.50 but an extra 30% off sweaters at Loft right now.

    9. pink slip houndstooth plaid hooded coat

Every year BB Dakota makes a coat that I really want but can’t justify because I live in Texas and we only need so many coats and jackets. This year this is that coat. I’m in love with this pink houndstooth plaid (Is houndstooth plaid redundant? It feels that way.) It has a whole Betty Draper vibe that I adore.

It’s $138. Someone please buy it so I can live vicariously through you.

    10. bp ribbed long sleeve tee

These long sleeve tees from Nordstrom are a great layering basic for so many things. You can wear them under a sweater, a cardigan or a jacket. They are soft, a good length and come in several color options. They are $25.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

Also, it’s officially the middle of November.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition I am distracted by all the distractions

In what feels like a commentary on my entire week, I’ve spent the last five hours starting to finish this post and then getting distracted. In fact, in this time period I have baked a strawberry cake, made taco soup, helped Caroline with her hair and had two glasses of wine.

All that to say, I was probably a little better five hours ago than I am now.

But a cold front has blown through complete with rain, we have no real plans for the weekend and Alabama is playing LSU on Saturday. All in all, my excitement level is about a fifteen on a scale of 1 to 10.

And I also found some cute things this week that I really love and could make great Christmas gifts if you’re the kind of person who has started thinking about Christmas shopping.

    1. classic soft knit poncho shawl wrap

I love a poncho. And I also happen to think a poncho makes the perfect Thanksgiving outfit because you can wear it with stretchy leggings and eat all you want while basically wearing a blanket.

This one is just $24.99 and comes in several color options, although I happen to like this one best and can totally picture it over all black with tall boots. It would also make a nice Christmas gift because one size fits all.

    2. chelsea 28 turtleneck sweater

This is such a great basic and it’s on sale for $47.40. It comes in several color options and is long enough to wear with leggings. It would also look great under a jacket or blazer.

    3. colorfulkoala high waisted leggings

I know I’ve featured these before but I continue to love these leggings. I have this green camo pair, a gray camo and a solid black. They are the leggings I reach for over and over again because they are so comfortable.

Best of all they are just $29.99.

    4. chelsea28 mock neck body-con dress

In case you’re in the market for a great basic black dress, this one is just $79. I love that it has the ruching on the side because it gives the figure flattering effect of a body-con dress but it also forgiving for the tummy area for those of us who like our wine and/or our pasta.

You could dress this up for a holiday party or just keep it simple for more somber occasions like work.

    5. standing tall taupe boots

Remember last year when I found my Sam Edelman boots back in stock at Nordstrom Rack and it was a miracle? I still love those boots so much.

These are really similar and they are just $66 which is a bargain for a great pair of boots. I wear mine all the time because they are a great neutral and go with almost any outfit. They also come in a chestnut color if that’s more your thing.

    6. h&m patterned oversized sweater

Okay, I love a winter white outfit. This oversized sweater would look so pretty over a pair of white skinny jeans with the taupe boots up above. Or you could just throw it on with leggings for a more casual look.

    It’s just $34.99.

    7. rosalie necklace set

This necklace set is on sale for $49.95 plus an extra 25% off all sale. It would make a great Christmas gift for someone or you could add it to your own wishlist.

    8. loft plaid tweed long blazer

Tweed oversize blazers are a big trend right now and this one would look equally great dressed up for the office or just with jeans and booties. You could wear it with a velvet cami underneath and leather leggings for a holiday party.

It’s $150 but 40% off with the code FESTIVE at checkout along with everything at Loft right now.

    9. halogen baylee platform slip on sneakers

I love my leopard print slip on sneakers and these are really similar. They are $89.95 and have a great platform heel that gives you a little more height. I’ve found they go with so many things in my closet and I wear them all the time.

They also come in snakeskin and some solid colors here.

    10. wild fable high rise liquid leggings

Maybe you remember that I have long been on the search for a great pair of faux leather leggings. I even ordered some off Amazon that were listed as “novelty costume leggings” in my desperation. But the search is over because these are so good and they are just $16.

They aren’t as compressive or thick as Spanx leggings and they may not last me past this season, but they fit like a dream and are so comfortable and cute. I ordered the small for size reference and normally wear a 4-6 or 27 in pants and jeans. They fit perfectly.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

    Well.

    It’s November.

I don’t even know how this happened.

    I’m kidding. Kind of.

You can totally wait until November 2 to think about Christmas so enjoy the next few hours of your life.

Here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. loft cowl neck tunic sweater

This cowl neck sweater is so pretty and a great length. It’s on sale for $35 and comes in several color options and is such a great basic. You can wear it alone or layered under a jacket.

    2. j.crew factory vail parka

I have loved this parka for a long time. It’s just a great classic coat and it’s currently 30% off and on sale for $187.50 It also comes in yellow or pink which are equally adorable.

    3. loft embroidered smocked mock neck blouse

This is such a pretty blouse and would be great dressed up with some skinny velvet jeans for a holiday party. It’s $59.50.

    4. old navy boucle blouson sleeve sweater

This sweater is so soft and I love this color for fall. It’s $44.99 but 20% off with code SWEET at checkout and comes in several color options.

    5. young and free brown floral top

This is a great Free People-ish top for just $54. I love the brown floral print and the boho style. Perfect for Thanksgiving.

    6. h&m pleated skirt

I’ve seen the leopard print version of this skirt everywhere but this black and gold is so pretty and a different take on a big trend. You could wear it with a t-shirt and denim jacket or dress it up with a pretty sweater or a gold top for holiday parties. It’s $69.99.

There is also this black and gold chiffon dress if you’re more of a dress person.

    It’s also $69.99.

    7. h&m long blouse

This navy floral blouse is so pretty and perfect to wear with leggings or skinny jeans and it’s only $17.99 It also comes in black and I think the black over a pair of black faux leather leggings with gold jewelry becomes a comfortable but really cute holiday party outfit.

    8. h&m v-neck sweater

It’s hard to beat a good v-neck sweater. They are universally flattering and can be worn dressed up or down. This one is $24.99 and also comes in ivory or beige.

    9. plaid long sleeve sherpa pullover

North Face had a buffalo plaid pullover similar to this one last year that I really wanted and never bought. And now I’m kind of glad because this one looks cozier and it’s just $36.99. It comes in several color options.

    10. ae chenille oversized striped sweater

This is such a bright, happy sweater for winter, plus the chenille is so soft. It’s on sale for $34.46.

I also love this ae cable knit crew neck sweater.

It’s also on sale for $34.46 and comes in an oatmeal and pink colorway.

    That’s it for today.

If you need me, I’ll be here digging through the leftover Halloween candy looking for the chocolate.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition we’re on the road this weekend

So I’m writing this from Honey’s couch in Bryan/College Station right now. We are here because Caroline is doing an official tour of A&M today which is so weird since she’s still in Kindergarten in my mind. But apparently college is a real thing and it’s right around the corner and denial isn’t going to change that.

Then we’re headed to Dallas for a soccer game on Saturday and then back home Saturday night where hopefully Perry, Piper and Mabel will be waiting with Mexican food.

Here are a few things I found this week:

    1. airy shirt dress

I really like this and it appears to be the perfect length. This is perfect to wear with boots or booties. It’s $34.99 and also comes in olive green or black.

    2. we the free arden tee

I love the length of this tee and it’s so soft. Great to wear with leggings. It’s $58 and comes in a ton of color options.

    4. ae velour leggings

I also loved these leggings. They are velour and so unbelievably soft. They are on sale for $29.96 and also come in other patterns and a solid black option.

    5. burnout pattern blouse

I think this is so pretty and could be festive for the holidays. Maybe you could wear it to Thanksgiving lunch with a pair of stretchy pants. It’s $49.99 and also comes in black.

    6. prancer cable knit sweater dress

I think this is such a pretty sweater dress and I love the coziness of the cable knit. It’s $68.

    7. daily ritual supersoft terry long sleeve shirt

This is a great basic and it’s just $28.

    8. chelsea28 cowl neck sweater

The cuffs on this sweater are my favorite. It’s $79 and it also comes in a charcoal gray and rouge heather.

    9. set the tone cream and blush cowl neck sweater

This is such a pretty sweater and it’s $48.

    10. daily ritual supersoft terry funnelneck dress

I have a daily ritual dress that I bought this summer and wore it constantly. It was practically my uniform. And now I think I need this long sleeve version. It’s $28.90 and also comes in black, navy, light gray and charcoal.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
