  • An excerpt from me about Piper and Mabel

Merry Church of the Small Things Eve!

    Is that a real thing?

    Only if you care.

And apparently I do because I got home from church yesterday and spent the entire afternoon cleaning my house from top to bottom. This is not normally how I spend my Sunday afternoons. But it’s like I was nesting before my new baby arrives. I can’t explain this phenomenon except that somewhere it’s triggered by the need to control something you can actually control. I can’t make everyone buy my new book but I can dang well make sure my baseboards are clean and all the towels are bleached. The mind is a weird thing.

Today’s excerpt is by me with a guest appearance by Piper and Mabel. I’ll tell you what I learned from this experience. P and I do not have a future in dog-wrangling. Or maybe Mabel is just camera shy. I don’t know.

Today is the last day you can order and get all the free stuff for pre-ordering here. (If you have pre-ordered and never got your link with all the stuff, please email me with your order number and let me know!)

There are still signed copies available for pre-order at Barnes & Noble with exclusive bonus content and a bullet journal in the back. You can order one here.

And you can find it on Amazon here.

And you can find the book trailer and all other buying options here.

Also, if you’re in San Antonio, I’m going to be on Daytime at Nine on Fox this morning and then San Antonio Living on NBC at 10:00.

Have a great Monday. I’ll just be here probably re-cleaning my house or biting my nails.

  • An excerpt from Gulley about Autocorrect

It is now officially just one week out from the release of Church of the Small Things, which means I am doing a lot of deep breathing and hiding out in my house. I’ve had October 3, 2017 circled on my calendar and by that I mean that I’ve had it marked on my iPhone calendar for almost two years so it’s a little surreal that it’s almost actually here. I guess part of me thought maybe Jesus might come back before I had to live through another book release.

The truth is I’m excited about the book and about the message that small things matter. And so I thought it is fitting to have today’s excerpt read by none other than Gulley. The thing about Gulley that I don’t think you know unless you know her in real life is that she teaches preschool.

Every day Gulley teaches three-year-olds how to stand in line and wash their hands and share their toys and not throw sand and to make it to the bathroom in time. This is my version of hell. But she does it with so much love and dedication and every time one of her little tiny students sees her around town it is like they have seen a rock star. They can barely contain their excitement. Seeing the way she loves her students and the way they love her is proof that the biggest difference we make while we walk this earth can usually be found in the smallest acts of faithfulness.

Her other ministry is that she makes me laugh every single day.

If you haven’t ordered it already, you might as well go ahead and order now because you only have to wait a week to get your book. Plus, you can still get all the free stuff for pre-ordering here. (If you have pre-ordered and never got your link with all the stuff, please email me with your order number and let me know!)

There are still signed copies available for pre-order at Barnes & Noble with exclusive bonus content and a bullet journal in the back. You can order one here.

  • An excerpt by Bops about Bops and Caroline

Today we have an excerpt read by my dad, also known as Bops. He decided before Caroline was born that his grandpa name would be Pops, but Caroline pronounced it as Bops when she was a little over a year old and so Bops it is. He is the best.

Also, this is a picture from about four years ago that is exhibit A of how much they favor each other.

There are still a few signed, first edition copies available for pre-order at Barnes & Noble (Did I mention I signed my name until my left hand fell off and I nearly died?) and they are currently 30% off which makes them just $16.07, plus they have exclusive bonus content and a bullet journal in the back. You can order one here. Once they are gone, they are gone forever so if you want a signed copy for yourself or to give as gifts, this is your chance.

And you can find the book trailer and all other buying options here.

If you pre-order, don’t forget to go enter your order number here to get all your pre-order bonuses, which include downloadable prints by Heather Gauthier, the amazing cover artist, five of my family recipes, the first three chapters of the book and the first video session of the Church of the Small things Bible study. (If you have pre-ordered and never got your link with all the stuff, please email me with your order number and let me know!)

    Have a great Wednesday!

  • An excerpt about bangs

Last spring we filmed various people reading excerpts from Church of the Small Things for me to share leading up to its official release on October 3. There was a time that I regularly posted videos of Caroline, but those days are long gone now that she’s a teenager and not really interested in being on any kind of social media unless it’s her own. However, she agreed to read an excerpt from the book and I am probably biased but I think she’s the cutest.

I’m ignoring the fact that she already looks significantly older than this even though this was filmed just four months ago.

Bangs. I know they work for some people but we are not those people. Remember when Reese Witherspoon won the Best Actress Oscar for playing June Carter Cash in Ring of Fire? There are some people who would feel that is her greatest accomplishment, yet I believe these bangs are significantly harder to achieve.

I carried this photo around for years in the mistaken belief I could achieve this. Never mind that I look nothing like Reese Witherspoon in any way, shape or form. Oh, and I also don’t have a team of stylists to fix my bangs every day.

Anyway, you can read another excerpt from the book here about my grandparents that was featured on Country Living this week.

There are still some signed, first edition copies available for pre-order at Barnes & Noble and they are currently 30% off which makes them just $16.07.

Thank you for pre-ordering and for accepting me even though I suffer from bangs insufficiency. I’ll see you back here tomorrow for Fashion Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition It’s August! And how to get a signed copy of my book

So I’m excited about this today. Not about this video of myself because I hate watching myself and, let’s be honest, that still shot is unfortunate. But I am very excited about the information contained therein.

And in case you’re all like “I do not care to watch this video”, here’s the big news.

BARNES & NOBLE HAS EXCLUSIVE SIGNED COPIES OF CHURCH OF THE SMALL THINGS: The Million Little Pieces that Make Up a Life AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER STARTING TODAY. And not only are they signed, first-edition copies, they also include exclusive bonus content and a bullet journal in the back of the book.

(Those are just stickers so you can take them off later to just enjoy the gorgeous cover by my dear friend, Heather Gauthier.)

Here’s the best part, you can preorder a signed copy (or several because – HELLO – Christmas and Birthday and thank you for being you gifts) and you receive not only a signed, first edition copy with exclusive content, but you are also eligible to receive all manner of free stuff; including the first three chapters, the first video session of my new Bible study, five family recipes and four downloadable prints by Heather Gauthier. Plus, Barnes & Noble offers free shipping for orders over $25 and they won’t bill you until the book ships on October 3.

This is the best of all the offers there will be as this new book goes out into the world so there’s really no better time to get your copy than right now before all the signed copies are gone. If only I could throw in a set of Ginsu knives to sweeten the deal.

So here’s what you need to do in an easy step by step format.

    1. Get your signed first edition of Church of the Small Things with bonus content here on Barnes & Noble.

    2. Check out all your preorder free stuff here and enter in your information and order number and you will receive an email in the next few days with access to all of it.

That’s it. Please and thank you. Done and done.

I just want to say that I am so excited about this book. I believe so much in the message and the hope that it has to offer for all of us who are just trying to be faithful in the small things every single day. I think it’s where 99.5% of us live and I wrote it for us because that usually it’s the small things in life that mean the most. I hope that’s the encouragement Church of the Small Things will bring to your life.

Now for some cute things I found this week:

    1. floral off the shoulder ruffle top

I drove by Banana Republic yesterday and noticed they had some great tops in their display window. So I went to check them out online. This darling top is on sale for $63 and also comes in olive green.

    2. dolman style polo

And I love these dolman style polos because they’re so easy to throw on with everything from a pair of jeans to a cute skirt or pair of shorts. They are on sale for $25 and also come in sky blue and white

    3. bp side slit tee

This is one of those great tops at Nordstrom that’s only still available because no one has found it yet. It’s just $19 and comes in several color options. These tops are perfect because they are so soft, a great length and easy to put on for early Saturday morning soccer games.

    4. sole society amal faux leather tote

I saw this tote in person this week and it is so much better in real life that I had to feature it. I love the braided handle. It’s $69.95 and comes in cognac, black and taupe.

    5. pleated v-neck tunic tank

I bought this for myself in black last week and just got it in yesterday. I was worried it might look too maternity-ish, but it is the perfect length and weight. I can definitely wear it by itself but it is also great for layering under kimonos, jackets or sweaters. It’s on sale for $49.95 and comes in several color options.

    6. tuesday blouse

Caroline and I ran in Anthropologie yesterday and I fell in love with this top. It’s just a great basic that can be dressed up or down, but I love the blouse-y, drapey feel and I’m powerless to resist a tie in the front.

It also comes in gray and olive green.

    7. floral jacquard flutter shell

This is just a really pretty top from Loft.

    8. akola project demi necklace

I love my demi necklace from Akola so much that I’ve been seriously debating getting another one in a different color. I think I’d do a light gray with the gold star. But that’s just me. This is on sale for $59.99 and is normally $86. I wear mine with so many things and love it every time.

    9. bright spirit tunic

This tunic is on sale at Free People. I really like the blue color to pair with white jeans now or wear with either gray or blue jeans in the fall with a pair of boots.

    10. zella high waist midi leggings

These Zella leggings are a favorite and on sale for $38.90 until August 6. They are perfect for actually working out or just running errands, depending on your personal preference. There is no judgment here.

And I really like these gap fit tie back tanks if you’re actually going to work out. You can tie them or wear them loose and they look cute either way.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
