Fashion

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it’s been a looooooong week

I didn’t mean to go all week without writing anything here, but I spent the first part of the week in Round Top and had zero internet. Then I got home and fell into a dazed stupor and am still recovering a little bit. I was in Round Top filming sessions for a Bible study and I’ll tell you more about it next week when I can form actual coherent thoughts.

In the meantime, here are a few cute things I found this week:

    1. j.crew western chambray shirt

It’s hard to beat the versatility of a good denim shirt. It goes with everything from jeans to shorts to a skirt. This one is just about perfect and it’s 30% off with code HAPPYSPRING at checkout.

    2. eyelet ruffle off the shoulder top

I like this top because it appears to be a little longer than some of the other off the shoulder tops I’ve seen, plus the eyelet detail is perfect for summer. It also comes in a faded coral color.

    3. stripe bell sleeve blouse

This would look great with everything from white jeans to black pants at the office. I adore these sleeves.

    4. j.crew ruffle top in clip dot

I love the ruffle detail on this top. It’s also comes in black and bright yellow. It’s 30% off with code HAPPYSPRING.

    5. leopard print genuine calf hair pouch

This is a great clutch if you’re in the market for a fun addition to any outfit. There’s a much pricier version of this that you see all over Pinterest.

    tonal stripe foldover clutch

This is also really pretty for spring and summer. It comes in several color options, but I adore this soft pink.

    6. birkenstock mayari

I pulled the trigger on a pair of Birkenstocks today. And by the pull the trigger, I mean I bought some just like this…not that I shot a pair of innocent sandals. I just decided I needed them in my life and am tired of wearing my flip-flops all summer long.

Last summer I bought these birkenstock arizona slide sandals and they are the perfect thing for the pool, beach or lake. They are made out of the same hard plastic as Crocs. Which is why we call the Birkencrocks in our family. You’re welcome for that.

They come in lots of colors and are just $34.95.

    7. steve madden kasen sandal

I searched for a good pair of lace up sandals all last year and never found any I loved, but these have potential to be the ones. They come in several colors including a soft pink.

And if you’re looking for a comfortable pair of flip-flops that are a little versatile, then these
rainbow flirty braided leather flip flop are a great option.

    8. dipped chroma swing dress

I saw this in Anthropologie and the colors are much more vibrant in person and it’s really pretty. It would make a great Easter dress if you’re looking for one.

It’s on sale for $89.95 plus there’s an additional 25% off sale items with discount automatically applied at checkout.

    9. arboretum dress

This is a pre-order item at Bungalow 123 but you might want to jump on it if you like it. The sleeves are so pretty.

    10. audrina flatform espadrille

I bought these last summer and wore them all the time. I love that they’re a wedge but the platform makes them comfortable to walk in all day long. And they even look good with shorts.

    11. old navy cutwork swing top

This is a great top with really pretty detail. It also comes in coral, navy and white.

    12. statement collar necklace

A statement necklace is a great piece for summer because you can put it on with just a tank or a -shirt and it elevates your whole outfit.

And I also love this open circle long pendant if you’re looking for something a little more simple. It also comes in silver.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition Happy St. Patrick’s Day

I’m sad to say that we have reached the end of our Spring Break and it didn’t feel nearly long enough. I was a little worried that we might get bored since we ended up just staying in town since P’s mobility is still pretty limited and he’s still recovering, but the time flew by anyway.

But I am heading to Round Top for a couple of days next week (more on that later) so that should be fun and, like I told Caroline, the sooner we go back to school just means the sooner it’ll be summer.

Here are a few cute things I found this week:

    1. free people rising sun tee

Free People tees are really hard to beat. They are super soft and the colors are always so rich. This one is on sale for $40.60 right now and comes in a bunch of color options. I think a good tee with shorts or a skirt in the summer is about the best way to go.

And if you’re looking for a less expensive option, I saw these soft v-neck tees while I was shopping with Caroline earlier this week at American Eagle Outfitters and they are just $19.95 and are buy one, get one half off.

    2. melange t-shirt dress

I tried this on in the fall and loved it but was waiting for it to go on sale. And then it never di and so I gave up on it. Then, lo and behold, here it is on sale for $69.95. It is super soft and flattering on and I love that you can wear it year round.

    3. you’re mine peasant tunic

I first saw this tunic in gray on Zappos, but then I noticed it’s on sale for $117.60 in white at Nordstrom. I adore it in either color, but the sale price makes the white more appealing. I think it’s just left in small and extra small but Free People stuff always runs on the big side.

    4. madelyn rae asymmetrical crepe fit and flare dress

While Caroline and I were dress shopping this week, I saw these Adelyn Rae dresses at Nordstrom and they are so cute. This is a great basic black dress if you are in the market for something like that, but there are a lot of cute options in this brand.

    5. azriel corded mini dress

I saw this on the sale rack at Anthropologie and decided to try it on, mainly because it’s just $39.95 and the color is really pretty in person. It is actually cute on and would be great with some wedge sandals.

    6. ruffled poplin blouse

I love the style of this top and this yellow color. It also comes in royal blue and white. All of them would look great with white jeans.

    7. seasons of the moon embroidered raglan blouse

I tried this on in white at Free People and was so tempted to buy it until I remembered I don’t need another white shirt. But it’s super cute and lightweight and perfect with just a pair of jeans.

    8. all american girl top

A cute sleeveless white top is always a good thing to have for summer and I really like this one.

    9. sanctuary lace trim shift dress

This Sanctuary dress is really pretty and on sale for $83.30. It also comes in white, but I kind of like the black. You know I’d wear it with turquoise jewelry because that’s what I do.

    10. panacea stacked bracelets

Or maybe I’d wear it with these darling bracelets. I love this bright pop of color as a spring and summer accessory. It’s the perfect way to dress up a simple t-shirt and jeans outfit.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition I’m still not a nurse

Thanks for making me feel a little less alone yesterday. The truth is that the majority of us don’t feel like we are cut out to be post-op nurses and even post-op nurses agreed it’s easier to take care of strangers than loved ones. So, good news, there are many of us that are providing our loved ones with marginal medical care.

Here are a few things I found this week:

    1. project social t textured v-neck tee

I am a fan of a good tee and these appear to have promise because they have a little bit of texture to them. They are on sale for $24 and come in a bunch of color options.

    2. j.crew factory white wash skinny jeans

I have spent the last few weeks trying on a variety of white jeans because I really need a new pair. I bought this really nice pair for 75% off at Piperlime when they were going out of business, but bought them in a size smaller than I usually wear because it was all that was left. And while they look great while I’m standing up, I can’t really sit down in them without feeling like my stomach is being sawed in half, which is problematic.

I had yet to find a pair of white jeans that I liked until I ran in the J.Crew Mercantile store the other day and tried these on. I’ve never had much luck with J.Crew jeans but these are the exception and I love the way they fit, plus they are on sale for $47.50.

    3. j. crew flutter sleeve tank

I also fell in love with this top. I love the color and the pattern and it looks so cute with the aforementioned white jeans. It’s on sale for $41.50.

And it also comes in this pleated shift dress if you’re in the market for a great dress for spring and summer.

    4. j.crew bell-sleeve eyelet dress

I tried this on while I was in J.Crew and really liked it but remembered I don’t really need it. I’m normally a 4 in dresses and the small fit me perfectly with a little room to spare. It’s super cute on and would be great for Easter with some turquoise jewelry and wedge sandals.

It’s on sale for $46.50 and also comes in navy but sizes are limited.

    5. say you love me minidress

I fell in love with this when I saw it at Nordstrom last fall and now it’s on sale for $64.

    6. crochet cover up tunic

This past weekend I took Caroline shopping for a new swimsuit before spring break and it made me realize that what I am really looking for this swimsuit season is some great coverups to cover up all the things. I think this is gorgeous and it also comes in white. It could also be worn as a top with a tank under it which makes it even better.

And while we’re on the subject of coverups, I think this loft beach lacy caftan dress is a great option.

It comes in black and white.

    7. loft daisy bell sleeve blouse

I’m a sucker for a great white top this time of year. This one is just beautiful and could easily transition from the office to more casual outings.

    8. vans sf slip on sneakers

Stop it. Leopard print vans? Sign me up. I cannot even tell you how comfortable my Vans are. There is a reason all the skateboarders wore them in the 80s. And these leopard print are the best ever. It’s a year round shoe.

    9. cove embroidered swing dress

I’m a little worried about the length of this but think it could also be cute as a tunic top over skinny jeans if it’s too short to be a dress for an average person.

    10. espadrille platform sneakers

I’m seeing these espadrille sneakers everywhere right now and I think they are so cute with everything from shorts to dresses.

    11. leya mock shirt with tied sleeve

This top is great because it can be dressed up or down. I love the tied sleeve detail and like that it’s a feminine top without being overly girly. I adore all the ruffles I’m seeing in various tops but it’s a little too precious for me personally in real life.

    12. tularosa wyatt embellished tunic

Now this is everything that is good in a top. I love the embellishment. I love the cut and I love the color.

It also comes in pink here if that’s more your style.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday!

  • Fashion Friday: Edition in like a lion

You know the old saying that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb? Well, that is my life right now.

P had knee surgery on Wednesday to kick off the month. His recovery is going to be a little more extensive than I think we had envisioned and he is fairly immobile. Also, he can’t drive for at least the next ten days.

And on Wednesday night, after a long day of surgery and listening to post-op instructions and trying to get settled in back at home, I fell into bed and was completely exhausted. Then I woke up at 3:30 a.m. with cramps and got up to take an Advil. Right about that time, Caroline starts yelling, “MOM!!! MOM!!!! PIPER JUST THREW UP EVERYWHERE!” and so I ran in her room to discover she wasn’t exaggerating. It looked like someone had dumped a bucket of water and dog food on the floor of Caroline’s room. I blame the cat poop.

Just as I finished cleaning that mess up, P called from the bedroom and needed more pain meds and help getting up. So what I’m saying is March has come in like a lion around here. And you know what makes me feel better? Shopping.

Here are a few cute things I’ve found this week.

    1. sun & shadow tiered gauze skirt

I love a skirt for spring and summer. This one appears to be a winner because it not only has an elastic waistband, but appears to be soft and comfortable. Put it on with a tank or tee and a pair of sandals and you are good to go. So much better than shorts.

    2. phase 3 faux leather tote

This is great tote and I love this soft pink color for spring and summer. But it also comes in cognac and black.

    3. sam edelman espadrille flat

This is a great transitional shoe. The espadrille is a huge trend right now and I love that these have a good size platform because nothing makes you look better than a little added height.

But if you aren’t a fan, then there is the toms classic espadrille slip on which is the same idea but more like a classic espadrille. And Toms are always so comfortable.

    4. dolan plunge tunic dress

These dresses by Dolan are so great because the fabric is dreamy and they are really flattering. This one is on sale for $79.95 plus free shipping and also comes in wine, slate and holly green.

I actually have this lola cocoon tunic in black and it is a go-to dress in my closet because it can be dressed up or down.

It’s only left in this holly color, but I can’t recommend it enough.

    5. mona plaid dress

This is on sale for $69.95 plus free shipping and has a ton of great reviews. I actually just ordered it myself because did I not just tell you about the dog throw up and the surgery? This dress is giving me a reason to live.

    6. free people lini babydoll dress

I really like this. I’m not sure if it’s long enough to be a dress because Free People is so tricky about that, but it could also be a great tunic. And it comes in sky blue which would look so great with white skinny jeans.

    7. fresh start top

This is a perfect top for spring and summer. Easy to wear with jeans or shorts.

    8. boden linen shirt

I bought a shirt from J.Crew last summer that has stripes like this and it was one of my favorites.

    9. j.crew flutter sleeve tank

This is a great top for summer and it also comes in coral and navy.

    10. j.crew factory schoolboy blazer in linen

I think a white linen blazer looks so great in spring and summer with everything from jeans to dresses. This one is on sale for $82.50 also comes in a french blue and a seaside coral, plus there is a striped version and a gingham version.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition I’m just going with it

    Listen.

This has been a long, busy week and I’ll be so happy to sleep in my own bed on Friday night. And I really didn’t think I’d do Fashion Friday this week, but apparently I can’t help myself no matter how tired I am.

Also, please note that I’m sticking with Fashion Friday for now. We’ll see what happens, but loved all the advice and suggestions last week.

Here are some cute things I’ve found:

    1. french terry ruffle sweatshirt

I love a french terry sweatshirt because it’s basically the perfect material. And this one has a ruffle which gives it such a great touch. It also comes in black, grey, and navy but this pink feels so spring-ish to me.

    2. stripe cable sweater

I adore a good navy stripe on anything. This sweater makes me wish I summered in the Hamptons and could wear this with white shorts as I stroll down the beach. If you wore this on a Texas beach, you would want to die.

It’s on sale for $59.40 and also comes in coral.

    3. leith shawl collar cocoon cardigan

I have this in charcoal gray and it is a go-to in my closet because it’s the perfect weight to throw on over t-shirt or a tank. It’s almost sold out now that it’s on sale for $44.40 but still available in burgundy.

    4. greenwich tunic dress

I really like this because I think it could be a tunic or a dress depending on your age and/or condition of your legs.

    5. sevilla saddle bag

At Smart Barre, saddle bags are what we are trying to target and get rid of. However, in fashion, a saddle bag is desirable and this one is on sale for $46.80.

I don’t know why I’m so drawn to pink this week, but it also comes in a tan color.

    6. old navy cutwork embellished shift dress

It’s hard to beat an Old Navy dress for spring and summer. This one also comes in black, white and hot tamale (otherwise known as bright coral/red) and it would look great with everything from sneakers to sandals.

    7. old navy pin tuck swing dress

I also love this sleeveless dress because it’s so easy to put on and look totally put together. It also comes in black and olive green.

    8. max studio lace trimmed peasant blouse

There’s an extra 25% off all spring arrivals at Last Call, so this top is just $44.25 and it also comes in black. But there are tons of cute things so it might be worth it to look around.

    9. sorel joan of arctic boots

If you are like me and a little in love with Sorel boots but feel that they are hard to justify if you don’t live in Colorado or somewhere cold and snowy, they are now having a big winter sale. These are normally $180 but on sale for $109.98 and there are tons of other styles on sale right now, too.

    10. j.crew factory striped tunic shirt

I actually ordered this top as soon as I saw it because it’s the perfect top for this time of year in Texas. It’s on sale for $29.50 and also comes in white and a chambray blue.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Friday Fashion: Edition so here are some things I think are really cute

So remember last week when all the buzz was about the correct placement of a colon? That was such a sweet, innocent, carefree time.

Because you know what happened this week? I received an email from a law firm with a cease and desist letter for what my Friday blog post used to be called. Apparently someone trademarked it and so I can’t use it anymore. True story.

And so can I call it Friday Fashion instead? I HAVE NO IDEA. Yet that is what I am doing today. However, I am open to any suggestions you may have for a new name for this weekly fashion post.

    Day after Thursday Fashion?

What to Wear before the Weekend?

Sartorial Suggestions to End the Week?

This Used To Be Called Something Else for Ten Years but I Didn’t Know I Should Get It Trademarked?

    Feel free to weigh in.

Here are some cute things I found this week when I wasn’t being served with legal documents.

    1. thea ruffled peplum top

This top is perfect with shorts or jeans. It comes in several colors but sizes are running out because it’s just $29.95 plus an extra 40% off with no code needed at checkout.

    2. clarinda tiered dress

I think this dress is so pretty. I loved it the first time I saw it and now it’s on sale for $129.95 plus an extra 40% off. It also comes in wine.

    3. karen kane wrap top

This comes in a few different colors but I think this blue is gorgeous and will be so great with white jeans for summer. It’s on sale for $59.40.

    4. vans striped slip on sneakers

I love my slip on Vans so much and this striped version is divine. They are the perfect casual shoe and would look great with everything from skirts and dresses to shorts and jeans.

    5. gap denim embroidered blouse

I ordered this right after I featured it a couple of weeks ago and it did not disappoint. I love the way it fits and it looks equally great with blue jeans and white jeans. It’s on sale for $59.46 plus an extra 25% off with code MORE at checkout.

    6. steve madden bselena bag

Why is this called a bselena bag? How do you even pronounce that? I have no idea. I just know it’s a really cute bag and would be great for spring and summer.

    7. gap embroidered swing jersey dress

Gap usually has a great jersey dress for warmer weather and this year is no exception. It comes in navy, gray and a royal blue. The navy would look great with the striped Vans up above.

It’s $35.37 plus an extra 25% off with code MORE.

    8. sole society faux leather shopper

This is a great, less expensive version of the Madewell transport tote. It’s $64.95 and also comes in black.

    9. tory burch t-stripe leather drawstring tote

Is this bag expensive? Yes. Do I adore it? Yes. I just felt you needed to see it.

And speaking of things that are expensive, yet I adore. There is this hemant and nandita maxi dress.

Seriously. I love it so much.

    10. cleopatra necklace

I bought a version of this necklace from Anthropologie last spring and I adore it. It looks great with everything from t-shirts to sundresses. It’s a great piece that adds the perfect pop to a lot of outfits.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
