  • And while I was looking around at Nordstrom

Well, first of all, thank you for being so excited about the E-book preorder deal yesterday. By the time I looked at Amazon yesterday morning, it was already up to #88 out of all Kindle books. In fact, it was only behind the classic novel, Stud Muffin.

This really feels like the pinnacle of my writing career.

Anyway, if you pre-ordered and entered in your information, then you’ll be getting an email in the next week sometime with all the links you need to download all your bonuses. And there are going to be some more fun offers on the horizon so stay tuned for those.

In the meantime, I spent some time yesterday looking online at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale to see if I’d missed anything and thought I’d share a few miscellaneous items that might be of interest.

    1. MAC look in a box basic brush kit

Someone told me once that MAC makeup brushes are the best and I now own a few and believe that to be true. This is a great basic brush set and is $162 value for just $49.50 during the sale. This might even be a good Christmas gift for any teenage girls you have in your life because teenage girls are all about the Youtube makeup tutorials and good brushes are essential. They know so much more than I did at that age when I believed my best beauty bet was to match my eyeshadow to my outfits.

    2. jo malone cologne collection

I gave up perfume years ago. But then I discovered Jo Malone and hopped back on board. The fragrances are subtle, but so appealing. I’ve never tried one that I didn’t love. This collection is on sale for $115 which is pricey, but may be perfect if you’re in the market for a new fragrance. Or five.

    3. slip silk pillowcases

My Nanny used to sleep on a silk pillowcase every single night and I never really understood why. I just thought she was fancy. But then a makeup artist told me the best thing you can do for your hair and your face is to sleep on a silk pillowcase every night. Then I read all the reviews and I think I’m sold. This is a set of two pillowcases for $109.

    4. anastasia mini lip gloss set

Speaking of another great gift for a teenage girl. Or yourself. This set is just $28. Last year, Gulley bought a sampler of various mascaras and it was a brilliant purchase. We decided we love a beauty sampler set.

    5. revitalash advanced duo

I know everyone has gone crazy for Rodan & Fields lash booster, but this is my first lash love. It works like a charm and you can use it on your eyebrows, too. A tube of it lasts me easily six months using it three to four times a week. This is for a set of two tubes which is a $196 value but on sale for $98.

    6. clarisonic mia cleansing system

A friend texted me today to ask if I really love my Clarisonic because she was trying to decide whether or not to buy one and my answer was YES. I change products like the wind changes directions but I am loyal to my Clarisonic because I think it makes a huge difference. This one is on sale for $86.

    7. lively floral assorted note cards (set of 8)

I realize this isn’t a beauty product, but I think these floral note cards are so pretty and they’re just $9.60 for a set of 8.

    8. barefoot dreams cozy chic throw blanket

Oh my word. This throw blanket. I would like to marry it and stay with it forever. It’s on sale for $99 and feels like it’s made of angel wings. Plus, I love a good stripe.

    9. good vibes jogger pants

These jogger pants are on sale for $29.90 and come in several color options although several are sold out right now. But they are super soft and perfect for lounging around the house and watching Netflix when you’re allegedly writing a book. Ask me how I know.

    10. tory burch cat eye sunglasses

I’m in dire need of new sunglasses and keep thinking about these by Tory Burch. They are on sale for $143.90 but are normally $215. I love the modified cat eye that is trendy but not crazy. They also come in black if that’s more your style.

So there are a few things that might interest you that I thought I’d share. I’ll be back tomorrow with Fashion Friday so see you then. Happy Thursday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

So today is the first day the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open to the public and there are some good deals to be found. I’ve already ordered a few things for myself and a couple of things for Caroline’s upcoming birthday. I realize it is difficult to imagine you will ever wear a sweater or boots again when it’s 126 degrees outside, but yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And this really is a great time to stock up on things at great prices.

Here are a few of my favorites:

    1. Zella live in high waist leggings

I bought a pair of these last year and already bought another pair this year. These are my favorite leggings of all time to wear to work out or even with boots and a cute tunic. They are on sale for $35.90 and are normally $54. The high waist will make you feel so good about yourself, yet doesn’t make you feel like you can’t breathe.

    2. barefoot dreams cozy chic lite coastal hooded cardigan

I was skeptical about this at first. Do I really need another Barefoot Dreams Cardigan in my life? If your answer is no, then why do you hate yourself? I tried this on at Nordstrom the other day and was SOLD. It is even softer and lighter than the original version I have, plus it’s longer AND it has a hood.

This one is going to go fast so don’t wait. It’s on sale for $75.90 and is normally $114.

    3. plaid cotton blend shirt

These bp plaid shirts are so great because they are lightweight enough to wear in the early fall, long enough to cover your bottom and on sale for $31.90. They are normally $49. I happen to love this blue, but the red is great, too.

    4. gibson tie front cozy fleece pullover

First off, this is incredibly soft and cozy. I also am powerless against a tie in the front. It’s $39.90 but normally $59 and comes in a bunch of colors including burgundy, which I made need for football season.

I also love this bell sleeve cozy fleece pullover for a variation on a theme.

    5. spanx faux leather leggings

Do you need faux leather leggings? I don’t know. I keep asking myself that same question. But then I think they could be so cute with boots and a denim tunic. Or dressed up for the holidays. These are on sale for $64.90 and normally $98.

    6. free people victorian minidress

Listen to me now and believe me later, red is going to be a big color this fall. I really love this minidress although I would wear it with leggings and boots. It’s on sale for $109.90 but is normally $168. It also comes in black or white.

    7. ruffle shift dress

This is one of the first things I fell in love with when I saw it on the sale site. I think it would look so cute with tall boots or booties for fall. It’s on sale for $58.90 and is normally $89.

    8. halogen cashmere poncho

Gulley bought me this poncho for my birthday last year and I adore it. Sadly, winter really didn’t visit San Antonio last year so I only wore it once or twice, but it is so perfect to throw on over all white or all black or whatever. It’s on sale for $98.90 but is normally $149.

I also love this wool and cashmere poncho.

It’s also on sale for $99.90. I guess you pay a dollar more for a cowl neck.

    9. madewell paint stripe leather transport tote

I love these transport totes and I especially love this stripe version. They come in several different color combinations and are on sale for $129.90 but are normally $198. Madewell never puts these on sale so this feels huge.

And if you really are in the market for a nice bag, this frye whipstitch leather hobo bag is divine.

It’s $284.90 but is normally $428 so if there was ever a time to take the plunge, it is now.

    10. nike free focus flyknit training shoe

I love these in the gray with the aqua shoelaces. They are $89.90 but normally $120. They also come in black.

And I ADORE these adidas gazelle sneakers

They are $59.90 and also come in a light gray.

And these sperry saltwater wedge reeve waterproof boot are so cute if you’re in need of a waterproof boot.

They are on sale for $89.90 but are normally $135.

    11. nature dream custom coverage bra

This is one of my favorite bras. It’s $47.90 but normally $72.

And this chantelle underwire sports bra is the best if you are in the market for a good sports bra with underwire that won’t give you a uniboob.

    It’s $47.90 but normally $72.

That’s it for today. Make sure you look around on the Nordstrom site because there are a ton of great things on sale.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition have I mentioned it’s hot?

This is going to be a little quick because I’m a little tired today because we were up repairing our air-conditioning at 3:30 a.m. And by we, I mean I woke P up so he could figure out why water was dripping profusely from the vent hood in Caroline’s bathroom.

Caroline and I noticed it about 1:00 a.m. and I wanted to think it wasn’t that big of a deal, but then I remembered how two summers ago the entire ceiling in her bathroom almost collapsed from a leak in the air-conditioner and decided I better wake P up. It took him a minute to process what was happening but then you’ve never seen someone get on his shoes and his handy headlamp so fast.

It took a little while to figure out exactly how he could fix it, but he managed it shortly before 4:00 a.m. and then we all went back to bed so we could lay there wide awake, fueled by the adrenaline rush that only comes when you think the ceiling is about to cave in. It was altogether a lovely evening.

Here are a few things I found this week: (The Nordstrom sale started yesterday for cardholders and there are some great things to be found there in case you have a Nordstrom card. Which I do. Which is why I already ordered several things. I didn’t include any of it here, but I will once the sale is open to the public next week.)

    1. quatrefoil drops

I’ve been looking for a new pair of basic gold earrings because my other ones broke. These are really cute and just $18. They also come in silver.

    2. crochet trim swing dress

I love the colors and cut of this dress. It’s $79.95 plus an extra 30% off with no code needed at checkout.

    3. stretch crepe sheath dress

I’m more convinced than ever that everyone needs a good basic black dress in their closet just in case. I really like this one and it also comes in a berry color.

    4. brooke eyelet swing dress

I have loved this since I first saw it and have been waiting for it to go on sale. That day is today. It’s $99.95 plus an extra 30% off. It also comes in pink but I think the black is stunning.

    5. reign
    top

This top is so pretty and easy to transition to fall with jeans and boots. It also comes in lavender.

    6. plaka sandals

So many of you bought these sandals the first time I posted them and have emailed with rave reviews. They are cute, comfortable and so affordable.

    7. gap linen sleeve popover shirt

Gap is offering 40% off your purchase with code SOGOOD at checkout. I really like these linen popovers. They also come in a stripe pattern.

    8. maria print blouse

Now this just jumped out at me on the Nordstrom website. I really love it. The color, the style, the whole thing. It’s lovely.

    9. we the free charleston tee

Free People is offering free shipping through Monday and this tee is just $29.95. I love the soft muted colors and the long length.

    10. ruffled handkerchief hem top

This top is still one of my favorite summer purchases. It comes in several colors and is even better in person.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition so I guess I took the week off

Yesterday morning I woke up early because I had to drop Piper and Mabel off at the vet for their annual vaccinations. It was as peaceful as you might imagine. And then I came home to sit on my couch and work on a few projects and realized it was Thursday. I’m not sure where the week went. Yet, here we are and here are some cute things I found this week while I was celebrating America’s independence.

    1. smocked swing top

Anthropologie is still offering an additional 30% off all merchandise that’s already on sale and that includes this super cute swing top. It also comes in white, turquoise, and brown (although the brown looks a little more dark orange to me.)

    2. tie-cuff tee

This t-shirt is on sale for $29.95 plus an additional 30% off. It comes in multiple colors and the reviews are exceptional. The thing that stood out to me is that the reviewers say it’s longer than a normal t-shirt. Between that and the cute tie sleeves? LOVE.

    3. dayla tie-front tunic

I’ve been waiting for this to go on sale. It comes in several color options but I think I’m partial to black because it’s so versatile. I also think it will transition nicely into fall. It’s on sale for $39.95 plus an additional 30% off.

    4. christel ruffled-sleeve top

This is another sale top at Anthro and I am in love with these sleeves and the yellow color.

    5. beaded tassel drop earrings

I saw these in person at our J.Crew Mercantile store and they are so cute. They also come in navy and hot pink and are on sale for $20.50.

    6. up and away embroidered blouse

This lovely top is 40% off and now $100.80. I can totally picture it with jeans and boots in the fall. I love it.

    7. j.crew factory embroidered crosshatch shell

I saw this in person and it is so cute and the perfect top to get you through these incredibly hot, soul-sucking days of July and August. It also comes in yellow and is on sale for $29.50.

    8. old navy embroidered swing dress

Speaking of things to get you through the super hot days of late summer, this dress qualifies as one of those.

    9. geo print tassel wrap

This is so pretty and could be so great to throw on over a t-shirt with jeans or a tank and some shorts or even as a swimsuit coverup. It’s 40% off and now just $22.80. It also comes in black and white.

    10. old navy tie-front swing dress

I’ll be honest, I had concerns about this based on how it looks in this picture. But when you watch the video of the model actually walking in it, I think it’s a winner. It also comes in white.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition Happy fourth of July weekend!

Well we got home from the road trip about 6:00 p.m. last night and I think we all agreed this may have been the best trip ever. Mabel and Piper were there to greet Caroline and me at the back gate and, of course Mabel had written a haiku in my absence:

    “Some dogs like road trips
    But I wasn’t invited
    I see your dark heart”

But she’s curled up next to me right now on the couch so I guess all has been forgiven.

Also, we made it through the entire road trip without any kind of a car sick incident, but Gulley just texted me a few minutes ago to let me know that Jackson appears to have a stomach bug and has been throwing up for the last few hours. You know I blame the blue water from yesterday for this and now I feel like we are all ticking time bombs.

So let’s focus on some cute things I found this week:

    1. briella tunic dress

Anthropologie is now offering an additional 30% off all their sale items with no code needed at checkout. This great dress is now just $55.97 with the discount. I love the cut and the color. It’ll transition to fall perfectly with a denim jacket over it.

    2. plaid tie-front blouse

I’ve loved this top since the first time I saw it. It’s still available in this blue color and also a more neutral palette. I really like them both and it’s on sale for $34.97.

    3. lianna embroidered blouse

Speaking of tops I’ve loved since I first saw them, this one is so gorgeous. That red embroidery just pops on the blue background. It’s on sale for $55.97.

    4. island fare v-neck coverup tunic

This swimsuit coverup is so pretty and is 40% off and now $59.40. It also comes in white and a pretty turquoise blue.

And it comes in plus sizes here.

    5. knit shift dress

This does comes in several color and stripe options. I think it’s super cute and is 40% off and now $35.40.

    6. j.crew factory gingham shirtdress

I have this shirtdress in blue and white gingham, but I think this green and white is so cute. It also comes in black and white and is on sale for $53.50.

    7. tree swing sleeveless tunic

This sleeveless tunic is so pretty and comes in several color options. I happen to love this blue.

    8. plaka sandals

These sandals are so cute and have great reviews in terms of comfort and they are super affordable. I have plans to get a pair as soon as I figure out what color option I like best.

    9. j.crew embroidered linen-cotton top

How pretty is this top? It’s on sale for $69.99 but an extra 40% off with code SUMMER at checkout. It also comes in navy and green. I adore it.

    10. lace appliqué top

This is a great top for the rest of summer and even into fall. It comes in gray, olive and a rose color but I think I’m partial to the gray.

    That’s it for today.

I hope you all have a good Friday and a great fourth of July!

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it’s officially hot

I believe the heat index for today is going to be somewhere around 108. It really doesn’t matter what the specific number is because I’m out when it’s anywhere in the 100 range. I will spend my day in the air-conditioning, thank you very much.

This week has been busy because I’m still trying to wrap up a bunch of projects, but you know I found time to do some online shopping around. Not to mention that Anthropologie’s summer tag sale started yesterday and they have a bunch of cute stuff on sale.

    1. pin tucked sleeveless blouse

This is a great summer top and I’m really liking it in the green color. It’s on sale for $39.95 and comes in two different floral prints, black and green.

    2. forum v-neck tee

At first glance I thought this was just a regular white v-neck t-shirt, but then I realized it has these beautiful lace sleeves. It’s on sale for $29.95 and I think it’s such a great elevated version of a wardrobe staple.

    3. roxie striped tank top

This is also on sale for $29.95, that must be the going rate. I love stripes so, naturally, I love this.

    4. eveline ruffled top

This caught my eye immediately because it kind of encompasses all the current top trends, but can be worn with a normal bra and it isn’t off the shoulder. I love off the shoulder in theory but it’s just not a look that really works for me. I also like that this is a little bit longer than normal. And reviews say it runs large so you may want to size down. It’s on sale for $49.95.

    5. chrissy embroidered tunic dress

If I didn’t already have too many summer dresses, I would totally order this one. IT HAS POCKETS. And I love the embroidery. It’s on sale for $99.95.

    6. nadiya caftan

This caftan is sheer but it is so beautiful. It catches my eye every time I walk in Anthropologie and I wasn’t going to pay full price to wear it as a swimsuit coverup, but now it’s on sale for $49.95 which changes everything.

    7. superga lace sneaker

How cute are these? Lace sneakers! They are 50% off and now just $47.95 but sizes are going fast.

    8. ruffled handkerchief hem top

I ordered this top back in April and it was backordered. And I had forgotten all about it until it showed up like magic on my doorstep this week. It was totally worth the wait even when you factor in that I forgot I was waiting for it.

It’s just $42 and comes in black, blush, green, royal blue, hot pink and bright coral. It fits perfectly and isn’t too short in the front like some of these tops tend to be, plus the fabric drapes really well. I got it in the green because I feel like that makes it a year round top.

    9. lightweight tie sleeve cardigan

I can’t even think about wearing a sweater right now, but this one is really cute and would look so great thrown over a simple tank or tee with a pair of jeans. The tie sleeve gives it a little something extra and it comes in a bunch of colors.

    10. jersey drop-waist dress

I think this dress is super cute but see above statement about how I don’t need any more summer dresses. It also comes in black, chambray and gray.

    11. striped ruffle v neck tank top

This feels like the perfect summer top to me. You could wear it with everything from denim shorts to colored shorts to white jeans.

    12. gap leather flip flops

These have been a staple of my summer wardrobe for years because the price is right and they go with everything. They’re on sale for $23 right now plus I’m sure Gap is offering some kind of additional discount.

    13. gap denim shorts

Speaking of gap, these are a good pair of denim shorts if you’re still looking for a pair. The length is the perfect blend of not too short and not too long.

    14. birkenstock gizeh flip flop

Um. They have made a flip-flop version of my beloved Birkencrocs. I may have to get these. They are only $34.95 and come in several colors.

    birkenstock granada leather sandals

While we’re on the subject of Birkenstocks, Caroline has these and they are so cute because that little detail on the side makes them a little more feminine.

    15. capella tassel necklace

This is a great summer accessory because it’s versatile enough to wear with a lot of different outfit options.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
