Fashion

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it finally feels (a little) like fall

The weather finally cooled off here just a little bit. I was able to wear boots and everything. Of course it’s going to be 90 degrees on Saturday but I’m choosing to not focus on that right now.

Maybe one day we’ll even get to wear sweaters.

Also, in non-fashion news, I was a guest on my friend Lincee Ray’s podcast this week and had the best time. She makes me laugh and loves all things pop culture as much as I do so it was basically just like having a normal conversation. You can find it here if you’re interested in listening.

Now here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. free people summer dreams hooded pullover

I love the color of this and I am always on board for any sort of hooded pullover. This is perfect for Saturday morning soccer games and running to the grocery store and just wearing around. It’s 40% off and now $76.80.

    2. life changer moto jacket

I keep looking at leather jackets and feel like it may be time to add a good black one to my closet. This one is a great price at $98 and also comes in other colors.

    3. jillian top

I love a good red and black plaid. I think this would look great with black leggings and boots.

    4. old navy extra long sweater

This long sweater is perfect to throw on over a t-shirt or a tank with jeans. It also comes in black and light gray.

    5. gap velvet skinny jeans

Velvet is such a big trend for fall and winter and I love these velvet jeans from Gap. This light pink is my favorite but they also come in gray, ivory and black.

    6. nordic nights button-down

I saw this in an email from Free People the other day and it called to me. Look how cute that lacing is up the side. It also comes in a rose color. I think both are so cute.

    7. autumnal tunic

I will never not one time not love a tunic and this one speaks to me.

    8. ruffled cuff button-down

This is on sale for $49.95 plus an extra 25% off sale and it has great reviews. It would be great with jeans but could also be dressed up with a skirt or pants for the office.

    9. j.crew merino v-neck sweater with drawstring sleeves

A v-neck is pretty much universally flattering and I love these sleeves. This comes in several colors and is 30% off with code DAY03.

    10. sam edelman camellia tall boot

I cannot quit looking at these boots. I love the suede, I love the heel, I love the whole thing. They also come in slate and black, but I really love this camel color.

    That’s all for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition with a dream and my cardigan

So I’m a little tired. Which feels like the understatement of the year. I got home from L.A. on Thursday afternoon and was driving soccer carpool by Thursday night and now I’m sitting here semi-conscious on my couch. I was in L.A. to be on the Hallmark Channel’s Home and Family morning show.

It was really fun and I even rented a car and drove on the L.A. freeway like an actual adult. And it took me an hour to drive ten miles so now I get what everyone means when they talk about the traffic there. Anyway, I’ll write more about it next week but we better get to the fashion or I’m going to fall asleep.

Here are some cute things I found:

    1. kira long kimono jacket

This is on sale for $69.95 at Anthropologie. I love the colors and it would look so great over just a simple pair of black jeans and a black t-shirt or tank.

    2. matilda button-down

This comes in several color options and Anthropologie is currently offering 20% off all tops. I happen to think this red with white polka dots is precious and I love the buttons and the tunic-length. Plus it has great reviews.

    3. glistened knit wide leg pants

I can attest that these pants are so much cuter in person than they are on the model. They are really soft and comfortable, but would be perfect for a holiday party with a simple black velvet top. They come in gold or silver.

    4. free people meadow lark blouse

Am I powerless to resist a good Free People tunic top? YES. This one is flowy, but has the best collar and looks great with black leggings.

    5. bp v-neck long sleeve sweater

This is just $39 and comes in gray also. I just like a good basic black sweater for the fall and winter and a v-neck is always flattering and feminine.

    6. morning suede moto jacket

This is pricey, but how gorgeous is this jacket? The color is perfect and it would make even jeans and a white t-shirt look amazing. It might be a good Christmas wish item.

    7. 7 for all mankind skinny jeans

I was at a book signing in Dallas this week and someone asked where I got my jeans and I remembered that I haven’t shared this secret in a while. Last Call is a great place to find expensive designer jeans at lower prices. For example, these are $89.60 but are normally $189.

    8. runaround french terry tunic

I know I have proclaimed my love for these runaround tunics, but they continue to be a favorite They are $33.50 but my readers can get an extra 20% off with the code RUNAROUND20 until Monday. Plus, all sweaters at Ikat Elephant are also 20% off right now.

    9. altar’d state berry dress

I wore this with skinny jeans (It is in no universe a dress on me) to my San Antonio book signing and several people asked where I got it. Here it is. I’m wearing a small and it also comes in a cream color.

    10. cashion cable knit sweater

This is the perfect soft cable knit sweater for winter. I plan to wear it on a regular basis. The length is great and the arms are extra long which I like because I can pull the sleeves down over my hands or cuff them.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a great Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition I launched a book this week

Remember that time this week that I launched a book?

    Yes. I am very tired.

And I still have miles to go. I’ll be at Royer’s Pie Haven from 11-1 on Friday signing books and then at the MSC bookstore on the Texas A&M campus signing from 2-4 p.m. before the Aggies play Alabama. I’d love to see you if you’re in the area.

I’m also super excited because I’ve partnered with my friend Mandy at Milk and Honey tees and we have the cutest t-shirts inspired by Church of the Small Things. I think they’re such a great reminder to live out the message of the book, plus I am a sucker to a hot pink t-shirt with a good pair of jeans. You can find them here.

Now here are some other cute thing I found this week presented without much comment because it is late and I need to go to bed.

    1. denmark striped tunic dress

This is $99.95 plus 40% off because all sale at Anthro is currently an extra 40% off.

    2. callie ruffled shell

This is $59.95 plus 40% off. You 2018 summer self will thank you for buying this top in advance.

    3. serafina peasant top

I adore Hemant and Nanadita clothing and this is no exception. It’s $99.95 plus 40% off.

    4. embroidered high-neck blouse

I have adored this since I first saw it. It’s on sale for $59.95 plus 40% off.

    5. vintage modern tank

These tanks have great reviews and straps that are wide enough to wear with a normal bra. They are on sale for $19.95 plus 40% off.

    6. Tie hem sweater

I love the wide tie on this. It’s on sale for $49.90 and also comes in gray or black.

    7. v-neck sweater

This comes in other colors but I love the pink.

    8. zella high waist leggings

These leggings continue to be my favorite. They are so comfortable and don’t fade no many how much I wash and dry.

    9. barefoot dreams hooded cardigan

We mentioned this on the podcast yesterday. It is so dreamy and a perfect Christmas gift for yourself or someone you really love.

There is no tenth thing today. Why? Because apparently I forgot and now I need to go to bed.

It’s also P’s birthday today so Happy Birthday, P!

Thanks for a great week, y’all.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition Please come to Boston

So I’m flying to Boston later today to speak at Gordon College on Saturday. And then I fly back home late Saturday night. This is the start of a crazy couple of weeks so I’m just planning to take deep breaths, find a glass of wine when I can and take more deep breaths.

Below is a list of the other places I’ll be over the next few weeks just in case you happen to be in the area and want to stop by and get a signed book and talk about Friday Night Lights or mascara or whatever.

10/5/17 – SAN ANTONIO – Book signing at Barnes & Noble San Pedro – 321 NW Loop 410 San Antonio, TX 7:00pm (A portion of all proceeds from any purchase at Barnes & Noble that night will go to SA Reads which promotes literacy efforts.)

10/7/17 – COLLEGE STATION – Book signing at Texas A&M at the Memorial Student Center Barnes & Noble bookstore 2:00-4:00pm

10/10/17 – DALLAS – Book signing at Barnes & Noble 7700 West Northwest Hwy Dallas, TX 7:00pm

10/28/17 – HOUSTON – Book signing at Blue Willow Bookstore in Houston, TX 11:00 am

Now, here are some cute things I found this week and I’ll be the first to say it took some effort.

    1. free people laguna thermal top

This is the top I bought this week. I’d been on the fence because did I really need it? YES. YES I DID. Now I want it in every color. It’s so soft.

    2. v-neck blouse

I bought this exact top last year and wore it constantly under cardigans and jackets and kimonos. It’s the perfect length and looks great by itself, too. It’s only $17.99 and also comes in white and green.

    3. plaid tie back peplum top

This is so cute and perfect with jeans or dressed up for the office. It’s $54.50 but 40% off with no code needed at checkout.

    4. sole society faux leather saddlebag

I’ve been carrying my cross body bag a lot lately and I have to say it’s nice to have my hands free while I’m running errands. This one is really cute and it also comes in gray and black.

    5. layered bar charm necklace

This is only $19 and great for those of us who don’t want to have to actually work to layer our necklaces.

    6. daniella poncho

I love this striped poncho. It’s like a foolproof outfit with leggings and boots and you don’t have to worry about sucking in your stomach. It’s $32.

    7. jenna kimono

I love a good kimono. Especially one at a reasonable price point. This one also comes in a light gray and is $38.

    8. sueded knit moto jacket

I haven’t seen this in person, but it looks promising and is a great addition to any outfit. It’s $59.99 at Old Navy.

    9. long linen blend cardigan

Speaking of a great addition to any outfit, this is a great piece to throw on over a dress or with a t-shirt and jeans. Plus it’s the perfect weight for a Texas fall.

    10. pilcro corduroy high-rise skinny jeans

I tried these on in Anthropologie and they are so dang comfortable. They’re like leggings, feel and look like velvet, and they have a high waist so they suck everything in yet don’t feel restrictive or uncomfortable.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the longest week

This is just a theory I have and is no way necessarily scientific, but I believe the weeks are getting longer. It feels like it took us approximately 472 days to get from Monday to Friday. But, finally, here we are. Welcome, Friday, we are so glad to see you.

You might remember that a few weeks ago I told y’all about a new online boutique that some friends of mine have started. It’s called The Nod and they have some really great stuff and just thought I’d share two of my favorites with you.

I love this caroline top and not just because it has a great name. It also has a great back that makes it different from the other black tops I have in my closet.

And I also love this lana layered necklace because I adore the look of layered necklaces but sometimes it feels like too much work.

As for some other cute things I found this week, here we go:

    1. camo print stretch ankle leggings

I took Caroline shopping last Saturday which explains how I found myself in Express after years of not finding myself in Express. And I saw these camo jeans. I have a pair of camo jeans that I have loved but they are getting worn and are in need of a replacement. This is the perfect camo jean, not too bold and just the right amount of faded with a distressed hem. They run small so you might want to go up a size, but they are so cute.

    2. j.crew side slit sweatshirt

You might notice that I have chosen a lot of comfort clothes this week. It’s because this week has worn me down and I’m ready for clothes that feel like a warm hug. I love this because it’ll look great with anything from jeans to workout leggings to pajama pants. It also comes in navy.

    3. tiered ruffle sleeve dress

But just in case you have an occasion coming up, I think this red dress is really pretty. I love the sleeves and the simple v-neck. It would be perfect for the holidays.

    4. j.crew city coat

Every year I debate buying one of these city coats because I think they are so cute. And then I remember I live in San Antonio and I basically need a coat two days a year. But now I’ve seen it in this gorgeous green color and I might be powerless against us, plus the long term forecast is saying we are going to have a colder winter than normal. You call it justification, I call it being prepared.

    5. te amo minidress

Red is such a big color for fall and I really love this. It also comes in black or white, but this red is stunning. Clearly, I would wear this with leggings.

    6. circle knit cardigan

Anthropologie has 30% off all sale right now. This is $89.95 and I think it’s so cute and the color is perfect for winter.

    7. gap soft spun marled joggers

I ran in Gap last week because I’d seen a black jumpsuit online and I was intrigued. They didn’t have the black jumpsuit, but they did have these “joggers” that we all know is just a fancy way of saying sweatpants. They are so soft and fit great without being bulky. I bought a pair for me and a pair for Caroline and we may not take them off all winter long.

    8. hailey crepe dress

I ordered this a few weeks ago because I needed a simple dress that I could dress up or down. I was skeptical as to whether or not it would work, but it is so cute. I think you’d need something under the lighter colors, but the darker ones are great.

    9. asics gel-fit sana sneakers

Look at these Asics that were made with Liberty of London patterns. I DIE. I need these to wear with my sweatpants. I mean “joggers”.

    10. gap striped ribbed leggings

While I was in Gap I went to look at their pajamas because Gap pajamas are usually a win. These leggings are perfection. They are super soft, fit like a dream, don’t get all bagged out at the knees and are lightweight but warm enough that I’ll wear them all winter long. They are on sale for $25.

I also love this sleep graphic pullover. I have been needing a sweatshirt type thing to wear at night because I always get cold before I go to bed. I’ve had the same on that I bought at Anthropologie years ago and it is so worn down that the material on the inside was starting to scrape my elbows to the point that they’d get raw. How embarrassing is it to say you have an injury from wearing a sweatshirt too long? That’s a low.

And these gap mix and match sleep shirts are super soft and on sale. Some combo of all these pj pieces would make great Christmas gifts.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition if ever there was a Fri-Yay, this is it

Maybe it’s because we are a month into school at this point or maybe it’s because last week was a short week and this week was a full on five day affair, but I am so ready for the weekend.

Super quick note before we get to the fashion portion of this post. I have a guest post on Ann Voskamp’s blog that is an excerpt from Church of the Small Things. You can read that here if you’re interested. I’ll tell you that it’s one of my personal favorites from the book.

Also, you know how much I love all things Hummingbird Farms lavender and I wanted to share their September special with you because it’s too good not to share. While supplies last you can get a bottle of their 12 oz lavender hand soap free when you purchase an 8 oz lavender lotion. And they also have specials on their heavy cream and body wash. You can find them all here. These would make great hostess gifts or Christmas presents or just a little happy for yourself.

And now for some cute things I found this week:

    1. outfield v-neck tee

This is a great basic v-neck tee with a great length. It’s on sale for $39.95 plus an extra 25% off all sale at Anthropologie right now. It comes in several color options and is perfect by itself or to layer under cardigans and jackets for the colder months ahead.

    2. monroe oversized button down

This is so cute and $49.95 plus an extra 25% off all sale. It also comes in a muted red and white stripe. I can’t decide which one is my favorite.

    3. laguna thermal top

This is one of those tops that I will debate buying and then will finally cave and it will be on my body for five out of seven days every single week. I love the length, the cut and it comes in several color options.

    4. tie bell sleeve sweater

Love the sleeves on this sweater and that it is a good length. As you can tell, I’m all about the length on things right now. I think this is because I ordered a shirt last week and it came in and barely hit my waist and I was all like “NICE TRY BUT I AM FORTY-SIX YEARS OLD.”

This also comes in other colors.

    5. gap fit hoodie

My conservative estimate is that I own five of these hoodies in various colors. They are the perfect weight for a Texas fall and great for just running around or actually working out.

    6. plaid flannel boyfriend shirt

Plaid is still everywhere this fall and these Old Navy boyfriend shirts are fairly inexpensive and come in cute color combinations.

    7. tie front cozy fleece pullover

You can’t appreciate how soft this is just by looking at this picture. These are 40% off and just $35.40 and it would be worth getting one even if you just wear it around the house. They are super comfortable.

    8. lace up lounge hoodie

Speaking of super comfortable, this is 40% off and $51.60. It also comes in black and would look cute with jeans and sneakers.

    9. flutter sleeve shift dress

This dress is so pretty, but simple. I’m a fan of that combo. It also comes in black or red and is on sale for $41.40.

    10. superga sneakers

I ordered a pair of these last year and decided they were too wide for my feet. But I still love them so much and Duchess Kate wears them and surely her feet aren’t wider than mine. That would be very un-princesslike. So I think I may have to try them again because the gray color is all I want in a sneaker.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
