  • Fashion Friday: Edition the end of a short week

I don’t know when it will feel normal to talk about normal things because we haven’t even quit reeling from Hurricane Harvey and now Hurricane Irma is about to hit Florida. And so Fashion Friday feels a little silly, but I also think I’ve always used this space to give us all a little bit of a break from all the harsh realities of life so I’m going ahead with Fashion Friday today. But don’t forget that you can find my post here of all the ways to help people recovering from Hurricane Harvey and stay tuned for ways to help after Hurricane Irma. Let’s continue to pray for the people of Texas and for those in the path of Irma.

Here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. hailey crepe dress

Most of the reviews say this runs a little big so keep that in mind. It is also 36 inches long, so it will be a little longer than it looks on the model. I love the simple cut and it comes in tons of colors. It’s $46.

    2. knit tunic

I never really like myself in pink, yet I am drawn to pink sweaters. This also comes in beige and black.

    3. blouson top

Now this top I am all for. Love the sleeves, the length and the cut. It also comes in white.

    4. zella let’s explore hoodie

We are three weeks into the school year and I’ve remembered again that I spend 98% of my days wearing nothing but workout clothes. And, thus, it makes sense for me to invest in cute workout clothes as opposed to nicer things and pink sweaters I’m never going to wear.

    5. ribbed cardigan

I really like this cardigan. The cut, the color, the length. I’m here for all of it.

    6. veena beaded caftan

How gorgeous is this? Anthropologie has an extra 25% off sale items right now and this is on sale for $99.95. I love this.

    7. a new day bell sleeve dress

Target has a new brand called A New Day and this is one of the dresses from that collection. I tried it on in the store the other day and was prepared for it to fit weird, but it’s actually much cuter on than it is in the picture. I think it would be so great for holiday parties and that kind of thing and you can’t beat the price.

    8. a new day utility top

This is also A New Day. I have a top similar to this that I bought at Target years ago and I still wear it all the time. It’s perfect to wear with jeans. It’s $17.99 and comes in several colors.

    9. kírie beaded earrings

I love these beaded earrings from Ikat Elephant. They’d make good Christmas gifts and are $18.50.

    10. preston tunic

I love a good stripe and I love a good tunic so it makes sense that I would like this striped tunic. Plus the back is really cute.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition Tropical Storm Harvey

Well our original plan for the weekend was to head to College Station for a soccer tournament. But the tournament has been cancelled along with basically everything else in Texas. Fortunately, I went to Target yesterday and stocked up on the hurricane necessities.

And please note those are chocolate blueberries so I didn’t forget the fruit.

In all seriousness, this is shaping up to be a potentially bad one for the Texas coast so please keep Texas in your prayers and pray that the storm doesn’t gain more strength before it hits the shore.

On a fashion note (since this is Fashion Friday) I wanted to tell you about a new online shop that some girls here in San Antonio have started. It’s called The Nod Boutique and you can find them here on Facebook or visit their website here.

Right now I have my eye on this haylie white top because I can’t resist a cute white top.

And this samantha top is also really versatile and also comes in maroon.

Here are some other cute things I found this week:

    1. edgewise chambray tunic

This is such a great top to transition into fall because you can wear it with shorts or jeans. It also comes in white. It’s on sale for $59.95 plus an extra 30% off and free shipping with no code needed at checkout.

I’m not sure why Anthropologie doesn’t just offer free shipping all the time, but that’s a post for another day.

    2. pleated v-neck tunic tank

I ordered this in black and I love it. In fact, I want to order another one as soon as I decide which color to get. It looks cute by itself but is also perfect for layering under a jacket or cardigan when the weather cools off. It’s $29.95 plus an extra 30% off and free shipping And it comes in a bunch of color options.

    3. bow back bell sleeve top

The reviews say to size down in this, but I love the sleeve detail and the bow in the back. It’s 40% off and now $35.40.

    4. lenox sunglasses

If you’re in the market for an inexpensive, cute pair of sunglasses, I really like these. They are on sale for $19.95 plus an extra 30% off and free shipping.

    5. dressy lariat necklace

I’m not sure why I haven’t seen this necklace before now, but I adore it. It would be such a great addition to almost any outfit and it comes in several color options.

    6. j.crew cuffed striped boatneck shirt

I love a striped shirt. But a striped shirt with cute cuffs? I love that even more. This is on sale for $24.50.

    7. maddy mule

That’s right. The mule is back. I’m not totally sure how I feel about it because they remind me of my mid-90s self who had a hard time walking quietly in a mule. But this one is super cute and comes in a bunch of color options. I especially love this magenta because go big or go home.

    8. knotted hem marled cuff tee

I think we all know how I feel about a shirt that ties in front. This one is no exception and it comes in several colors, plus it’s only $10 or $12 depending on which color you choose. I would order a size larger than what you normally wear because I think their things tend to run small.

    9. gap lattice back tank

I really like this lattice back tank for working out. It comes in several colors and is on sale for $24.

    10. hue essential denim leggings

One of the things that I think we’re all going to really want this fall and winter is a good skinny pair of black pants or jeans. These are technically neither. Yet they give the illusion of a great pair of skinny black jeans with the comfort of a legging. That’s what I call #winning.

    11. monogrammed clear stadium cross body purse

I meant to mention these last week. For those of us who plan to attend sporting events at our various alma maters, most no longer allow you to carry in a bag that isn’t clear. And it’s hard to feel very fashion forward carrying around a Ziploc bag or a big clear tote. That’s why I love this small clear cross body monogrammed bag. I got mine with a maroon monogram of course and it’s just the right size to hold my phone, cash and credit cards and lipstick. In other words, all your gameday essentials.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the last one of the summer

This is the last Friday of our summer. I realize some of you have already gone back to school and some of you have another week or so, but this is our last hurrah. We plan to celebrate by staying up late one more night, sleeping in late one more morning, and then going back to being responsible members of society like we were in May.

Here are a few cute things I found this week even though it’s too hot for me to ever imagine needing a sweater ever again.

    1. open front cardigan

Otherwise known as a winter coat in South Texas. I really like this and it also comes in black.

    2. open-stitched cardigan

I love this gold color and it’s on sale for $59.95 plus an extra 30% with no code needed. It also comes in white.

    3. siya dress

This is so pretty and it also comes in a stripe pattern. It’s $89.95 plus an extra 30% off at checkout with no code needed.

    4. artless flowers embroidered chambray dress

I really love this for a fall transition dress.

    5. gap camo skinny jeans

Camo is still a big thing for fall and it’s everywhere. On sweaters, jackets and these cute skinny jeans at Gap. I have a pair of camo skinny jeans that I’ve had for years and they are a closet staple.

I’ve worn them with a pinstripe popover and sneakers.

I’ve worn them with a chambray shirt and boots or booties.

And I usually wear them with a v-neck black t-shirt or any other black top I have in my closet and, trust me, there are many because I can’t say no to a black top.

    6. stevie cardigan

This is just $39 and those lace sleeves are a beautiful detail.

    7. old navy crewneck t dress

The other day I was looking for just a simple black casual dress that I could throw on with a denim jacket and sneakers. Or that I could wear under a sweater vest thing I have or with a kimono. And I found this one at Old Navy for $15. It also comes in other colors but I wanted the black.

    8. old navy button-front shirt dress

How perfect is this for Aggie football games? It also comes in black and olive green in case you don’t plan to attend any Aggie football games or would like a color other than maroon.

    9. loft eyelet split sleeve blouse

Loft has 50% off with no code needed at checkout right now. I really like this blouse because I could pretty much wear it year round. It’s cute with sandals and shorts now, but would look equally good with jeans and boots later.

    10. nike air zoom pegasus

These are my favorite athletic shoes ever. They come in several color options but I am loving the white and gold.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the end of summer countdown

Well here we are. Down to the last week of summer before school starts. And it’s filled with doctor’s appointments and haircuts and an orientation day for Caroline so it’s like we are going to be official productive members of society again by Monday. But it’s probably for the best because I probably need to do things like cook dinner, workout and put on real clothes.

Also, just a quick reminder that there are signed, first edition copies of my upcoming book, Church of the Small Things available online at Barnes & Noble but they are going fast. This signed edition also has bonus content and a bullet journal in the back of the book, so it could make a great gift for someone in your life. Or a great gift for yourself. Either way. You can find it here.

And then you can enter your order number here, to get all kinds of pre-order free stuff including the first three chapters to download immediately. People tell me this pre-order stuff is pretty important in terms of how the book gets placed in stores and all that stuff so thank you for buying the book and thank you for putting up with me posting reminders every now and then because it feels a little Notting Hill and I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking you to buy my book.

Anyway, here are a few cute things I found this week:

    1. bp v-neck long sleeve sweater

I love this v-neck sweater because I think a v-neck is super flattering on most people and it’s lightweight. It’s $39 and also comes in black.

    2. perfect roll tab sleeve tunic

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of this roll tab tunic. I like that it’s long enough to wear with leggings but also looks great with jeans. It’s on sale for $27.90 and comes in so many colors, but I kind of like this one for fall. There’s also an olive green that I’ve got my eye on.

    3. tie knot sweatshirt

I think the tie on this is a really cute detail and this is a good addition to all the athleisure wear that seems to be my constant uniform right now.

    4. paloma cardigan

I have a cardigan similar to this and I grab it all the time to throw on with everything from workout clothes to jeans and a t-shirt. This one is $39.

    5. festive delight embroidered tunic

Chic Wish is one of those places that can be hit or miss, but I think this top is really pretty. I especially love the light blue version but the black would be better with jeans.

    6. striped wrap blouse

Love this wrap blouse and it’s 40% off with code OHYES at checkout. This would look great with white jeans or black pants at the office.

    7. celebrate everything t-shirt

A reader emailed me to tell me about One Mission. You can read more about how it works here. But the bottom line is they have all kinds of cute t-shirts, jewelry, coffee mugs, etc. and 40% of every purchase goes to support a good cause. In their words:

“Inspired by the simple goal of helping more people do more good, One Mission exists ultimately for missionaries, non-profits, and many other important groups and individuals that entrust us with their fundraising needs.”

So go check out their site. It’s a great place to find cute things and maybe even fundraise for a cause that’s near and dear to your heart. I happen to really like this Celebrate Everything t-shirt and it comes in several color options.

    8. londra layered top

I really like this because I love a layered look without actually having to create the layers myself. This also comes in white and I think either one is a great fall transition piece. It’s on sale for $39.95 and has five star reviews.

    9. moonstone axis necklace

This is so pretty and versatile. It also comes in rose and is on sale for $29.95.

    10. briella tunic dress

I like a good flowy dress and this one is perfect. It’s on sale for $99.95 and also comes in light blue and moss green. And a wine color that’s on sale for $79.95 here. You can belt it, wear a jacket over it, and pair it with boots or sandals depending on the season. It’s super versatile and is so soft that it feels like a dream.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a great Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition It’s August! And how to get a signed copy of my book

So I’m excited about this today. Not about this video of myself because I hate watching myself and, let’s be honest, that still shot is unfortunate. But I am very excited about the information contained therein.

And in case you’re all like “I do not care to watch this video”, here’s the big news.

BARNES & NOBLE HAS EXCLUSIVE SIGNED COPIES OF CHURCH OF THE SMALL THINGS: The Million Little Pieces that Make Up a Life AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER STARTING TODAY. And not only are they signed, first-edition copies, they also include exclusive bonus content and a bullet journal in the back of the book.

(Those are just stickers so you can take them off later to just enjoy the gorgeous cover by my dear friend, Heather Gauthier.)

Here’s the best part, you can preorder a signed copy (or several because – HELLO – Christmas and Birthday and thank you for being you gifts) and you receive not only a signed, first edition copy with exclusive content, but you are also eligible to receive all manner of free stuff; including the first three chapters, the first video session of my new Bible study, five family recipes and four downloadable prints by Heather Gauthier. Plus, Barnes & Noble offers free shipping for orders over $25 and they won’t bill you until the book ships on October 3.

This is the best of all the offers there will be as this new book goes out into the world so there’s really no better time to get your copy than right now before all the signed copies are gone. If only I could throw in a set of Ginsu knives to sweeten the deal.

So here’s what you need to do in an easy step by step format.

    1. Get your signed first edition of Church of the Small Things with bonus content here on Barnes & Noble.

    2. Check out all your preorder free stuff here and enter in your information and order number and you will receive an email in the next few days with access to all of it.

That’s it. Please and thank you. Done and done.

I just want to say that I am so excited about this book. I believe so much in the message and the hope that it has to offer for all of us who are just trying to be faithful in the small things every single day. I think it’s where 99.5% of us live and I wrote it for us because that usually it’s the small things in life that mean the most. I hope that’s the encouragement Church of the Small Things will bring to your life.

Now for some cute things I found this week:

    1. floral off the shoulder ruffle top

I drove by Banana Republic yesterday and noticed they had some great tops in their display window. So I went to check them out online. This darling top is on sale for $63 and also comes in olive green.

    2. dolman style polo

And I love these dolman style polos because they’re so easy to throw on with everything from a pair of jeans to a cute skirt or pair of shorts. They are on sale for $25 and also come in sky blue and white

    3. bp side slit tee

This is one of those great tops at Nordstrom that’s only still available because no one has found it yet. It’s just $19 and comes in several color options. These tops are perfect because they are so soft, a great length and easy to put on for early Saturday morning soccer games.

    4. sole society amal faux leather tote

I saw this tote in person this week and it is so much better in real life that I had to feature it. I love the braided handle. It’s $69.95 and comes in cognac, black and taupe.

    5. pleated v-neck tunic tank

I bought this for myself in black last week and just got it in yesterday. I was worried it might look too maternity-ish, but it is the perfect length and weight. I can definitely wear it by itself but it is also great for layering under kimonos, jackets or sweaters. It’s on sale for $49.95 and comes in several color options.

    6. tuesday blouse

Caroline and I ran in Anthropologie yesterday and I fell in love with this top. It’s just a great basic that can be dressed up or down, but I love the blouse-y, drapey feel and I’m powerless to resist a tie in the front.

It also comes in gray and olive green.

    7. floral jacquard flutter shell

This is just a really pretty top from Loft.

    8. akola project demi necklace

I love my demi necklace from Akola so much that I’ve been seriously debating getting another one in a different color. I think I’d do a light gray with the gold star. But that’s just me. This is on sale for $59.99 and is normally $86. I wear mine with so many things and love it every time.

    9. bright spirit tunic

This tunic is on sale at Free People. I really like the blue color to pair with white jeans now or wear with either gray or blue jeans in the fall with a pair of boots.

    10. zella high waist midi leggings

These Zella leggings are a favorite and on sale for $38.90 until August 6. They are perfect for actually working out or just running errands, depending on your personal preference. There is no judgment here.

And I really like these gap fit tie back tanks if you’re actually going to work out. You can tie them or wear them loose and they look cute either way.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition I fell into a burning ring of fire

I was watching the weather last night and the weatherman seriously referred to our forecast over the next few days as a “ring of fire”. And then I lost my will to live. The end.

It is seriously so hot that it’s hard to even care about shopping right now. And just the fact I typed that sentence makes me wonder who I am and what has happened to my life. Yet I still managed to find a few things that might be of interest and might give you the desire to live another day.

    Here they are:

    1. pleated v-neck tunic tank

I really love this tunic tank because it would be great on its own or layered under a cute kimono or jacket. It’s on sale for $49.95 and comes in several color options. Plus, Anthropologie is offering free shipping and an extra 40% off all sale with no code needed.

    2. gingham flutter top

I have loved this gingham flutter top all summer. And now it’s on sale for $29.95 plus and extra 40% off and free shipping.

    3. nike essential sportswear tank

In case you’re in the market for some good workout wear, I really like this Nike tank. It’s on sale for $26.90 and also comes in black, but I’m kind of liking the red.

    4. kendra scott filigree drop earrings

These earrings would make a great Christmas present for someone and they’re on sale for $35.90.

I also love this aimee y choker.

    5. bp stripe faux leather tote

How cute is this tote? It also comes in a brighter striped pattern which is equally fun. It’s on sale for $35.90 and would make a great fall bag.

    6. androse dress

I love anything with embroidery and this dress is no exception. It’s just $39 and is great by itself or with a denim jacket over it assuming the weather ever cools off. Which feels doubtful.

    7. geo print kimono

Okay, this was a find. I was looking at kimonos on Free People and fell in love with one that looked exactly like this but it was $70. And then I found this one for $18. Is it the same quality? I have no idea. But I’m willing to take that gamble to save that much money.

    8. hue ripped denim leggings

My friend Jamie’s sister Jen had these leggings on when we went to lunch last week and I kept meaning to ask her what jeans she was wearing because they never bagged out at the knees or lost their shape, plus they fit so cute and had a frayed hem. And then she revealed that they were actually these Hue leggings. Pure genius. These also come in black and denim and I don’t know that I’ll ever wear jeans again.

And here are the essential denim leggings if you want a non-distressed version without the rips or the frayed hem.

    9. stripe tunic dress

I love nothing more than a good casual dress when the weather is this hot. This one is super cute and can easily take you into fall.

    10. we the free charleston tee

I ran in Free People last week and immediately bought this. It’s super soft, I love the long length and it’s on sale for just $29.95.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
