  • Fashion Friday: Edition we have lived eighty-four years since January 1

    Well.

I don’t really have anything to say today except for here are some cute clothes I found this week. We’ll call that the bright side.

    1. aerie summer desert sweatshirt

I bought this sweatshirt in white and green last summer and I wear them all the time. They are super lightweight and the perfect layer when you’re inside and the A/C is blasting which is how I prefer my A/C.

It comes in a ton of colors and is on sale for $31.46.

    2. chunky stretchy stack bracelets

I have a version of these bracelets that I have been wearing all the time (or at least all the time on the days I actually have somewhere to go). They are $27.89 for the set and look great all by themselves, but I love adding them in with my allie+bess bracelets that you can find here. This is my stack after church last Sunday.

    3. universal thread leather ankle strap sandals

I’ve been looking for a simple nude, flat sandal because they are so versatile and these are a great deal for just $19.99.

    4. aerie cheetah lace cover up

If you’re looking for a cute coverup, this one is on sale for $29.96.

    5. athleta match point skirt

I have never really been an athletic skirt person because I’ve never been a tennis person, but I keep hearing rave reviews about this one. It has built in shorts underneath with a pocket and I just think it’s a cute option instead of athletic shorts.

It’s $69 and it comes in several color options and also a 15.5 length if you wanted something a little longer. This one is 13.5.

    6. sunflower graphic tank top

I’ve added a couple of graphic tank tops to my wardrobe because I’ve spent so much time walking the neighborhood and/or going to work out. They look equally cute with cut off shorts or a skirt, but I can also wear them to work out with my workout leggings. This one is $17.99.

I also love this have a willie nice day tank because, well, Willie Nelson.

    It’s $17.99

And if you need something festive for 4th of July, then there’s this have a willie nice day American flag tank.

    It’s $16.99.

    7. prettygarden plaid sleeveless dress

I think this is such a pretty, feminine dress for summer. It’s $23.89 and it also comes in other color options.

    8. hannon platform sandal

I love a platform sandal because they have such a 70s vibe and are so comfortable to wear.

These are 60% off and on sale for $39.98. They have great reviews and also come in burnt orange for all my Longhorn sisters out there. If we actually get to have a football season this year, then I think these shoes are your reward.

    9. xhiliration sleeveless lace detail tiered dress

I saw this at Target and it’s so pretty in person. It’s on sale for $19.99. It’s lined so it’s not see through and the length is 36 inches so it won’t be too short if you’re on the taller side.

    10. gap white overalls

I have denim overalls that I have loved wearing during the quarantine and now I’ve got my eye on this white pair for summer. I think they are so cute and just an easy thing to wear around and still feel somewhat put together, like a jaunty, fashionable farmer.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it’s officially summer

Well. We’ve made it to summer here.

And so far we’ve had rain and thunderstorms and even hail almost every day. 2020 continues to be the gift that keeps giving. I can’t wait until the plague of frogs shows up.

Anyway, I hope you’re all doing well and hanging in there. Here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. bp tiered ruffle skirt

I love skirts like this for the summer. They are perfect to wear as a swimsuit coverup or you can make an outfit with a cute tank or t-shirt. This one is $45.

    It also comes in white.

    2. kimmie beige multi sandals

I have these sandals in black and Caroline borrowed them the other night and said, “I can’t believe how comfortable these are!” That’s what I had been trying to say. They are so cute and yet equally comfortable. The straps are stretchy but also make your foot feel so secure.

They are $76.95 but 40% off with code SPRING40 at checkout and come in several other color options.

    3. come back crew sweatshirt

I love a good summerish sweatshirt and this one is perfect. Granted, I can only wear it inside in the A/C but it is still so cute with cutoffs. It’s $54.95 and also comes in a charcoal gray color.

    4. billabong mix it up stripe long dress

This dress. I’m in love. I have absolutely no wear to wear it and that’s just life in a pandemic, but I think it is so cute and maybe someone else out there has an occasion that would call for this bright, fun summer dress. Plus, it’s on sale for $71.96.

And while we are talking about fabulous dresses, I just needed to share this thalita stripe maxi dress from Farm Rio.

    279656

I’m mildly obsessed with it but, again, I have nowhere to wear this dress. This dress with a mask at HEB is A LOT of look for a Tuesday.

It’s $300 but you can get 15% off with the code SUMMER15.

    5. sasha shimmy ruffle hem tank

I think this top is so cute for summer and would look great with longer denim shorts or a pair of white skinny jeans. It’s $68 and comes in several color options.

    6. cavallo ruffle neck tie back tank

Speaking of tops that would look great with white jeans, I really love this one. It comes in several other colors but could totally be dressed up or down. It’s $59.

    7. wyatt straw rancher hat

The older I get, the wider the brim of my summer hats get. I need all the sun protection I can find in a portable option. Honestly, I’m a hair shy of buying one of those sun hats on Amazon that looks like a beekeeper suit.

This is a much cuter option and it’s just $39.

    8. print kimono

I really like the print on this. It would be cute over a sleeveless dress or with shorts or jeans or really with anything. It could even be a swimsuit coverup. It’s $21.99.

    9. alessandra maxi dress

This is so pretty and has great reviews if you’re in the market for a nice dress. It’s on sale for $149.95 plus there’s an extra 25% off sale at Anthropologie.

    10. universal thread sleeveless tiered dress

This dress has great reviews on the Target site and it comes in several color options. I think it would look great dressed up with wedge sandals, but you could totally just wear it with a cute pair of sneakers. It’s $34.99.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition Memorial Day Weekend

So here we are. For most of us it is now officially summer. And I have to imagine that we all started this year thinking we’d probably be wearing masks to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend while having socially distant barbecues.

    God bless us all.

Here are a few things I found this week that are cute. Maybe you’ll be able to tell that I’m over the sweatpants and joggers right now. It’s all I’ve worn for the last two months, plus it’s now officially transitioned into true Texas summer heat which means I need to pivot into clothing that doesn’t touch my body.

    via GIPHY

    1. aerie smocked midi dress

I think this is just beautiful and could be great on its own or as a swimsuit coverup. You could throw on a light sweater or denim jacket with it. It also comes in an emerald green or black but I personally love this tropical print.

It’s 50% off and on sale for just $27.47 right now.

    2. cabales 3-pack seamless wireless sports bra

This has been my best find of the pandemic. While it’s a stretch to call these bras “sports bras” unless you’re doing yoga or something else very low impact, they are actually very supportive and flattering. They are padded and unbelievably soft. I can honestly say they are the first bras I’ve ever owned that I don’t immediately want to take off the minute I can.

Best of all, they are $19.99 for a three pack of them. There is a sizing chart on Amazon and it is very true to size from my experience.

    3. crinkled cotton dress

The flowy shapeless dress is my new sweatpants. It’s easy to throw on, you can wear it with everything from dressy sandals to sneakers or flip flops. And it’s just $24.99. It comes in several color options.

    4. button front dress

I love this dress. I think it’s a great summer piece that could transition to fall later on. It’s $34.99.

    5. airy dress

This is the short version of the crinkled dress above. It’s $19.99 and could be a dress, a swimsuit coverup, or just something you wear around the house when you feel too hot to live.

    It also comes in white

    6. eyelet embroidery skirt

I love this. I love the color, I love the eyelet, I love the whole thing. Such a cute skirt that could be dressed up or down. You could even wear it with a graphic t-shirt tied at the waist and sneakers.

    It’s $49.99.

    7. blue and white striped tier dress

This is currently on pre-order, but I adore both the style of this dress and the blue and white stripe. It’s so crisp for summer. It’s $98.

    8. USA graphic sweatshirt

I realize it’s too late to get this for Memorial Day, but you could get it for July 4th assuming you live somewhere that would allow you to wear a sweatshirt on July 4th. I just love the USA graphic (and the country) and really like this sweatshirt to wear all year round. It’s $35.

    9. universal thread belted overalls

I’ve really been a fan of overalls during this pandemic. They are like an upscale version of sweatpants. These are darling and just $29.99. Perfect to wear with a tank or a t-shirt with sneakers or sandals. They come in several color options.

    10. prologue short sleeve dress

I realize this is basically just an oversize white t-shirt posing as a dress, but on the bright side it’s an oversized white t-shirt posing as a dress. I love pieces like this in the summer because you can throw it on in the morning and be comfortable all day long. It also comes in black and rust. It’s $22.99.

    That’s it for today.

Have a good Friday and a nice long weekend when you can just be at home with your family like that isn’t what we’ve already been doing for the last two months.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition how’s everybody doing?

    Well.

We have all basically been living in this weird new universe for over two months. And this week I actually had a mammogram, a dentist appointment, a doctor’s appointment and got my eyebrows waxed. The weird thing is how weird it feels to be back out in the real world. While wearing a mask. And seeing everyone else wearing masks.

And is it just me or does the mask make anyone else feel like they can’t see? I walked around Target today for a good hour just trying to get my bearings and figure out where everything was even though it’s the exact same Target I’ve been to 1052 times.

Also, I’m going to be a part of this fun event tonight, Friday May 15 at 7:00 p.m. CST.

You can register here and then just use this link to join live a little before 7:00. It should be a lot of fun if you happen to find yourself at home tonight which is basically all of us.

Anyway, here are some cute things I found online this week:

    1. bp cozy top

I love this set from BP. It’s soft and cozy, yet lightweight enough to wear now that it’s warming up outside. The top is $39 and it comes in several other color options.

These are the matching bp jogger pants

They are $39 and also come in several color options. Perfect as a set or as individual pieces depending on your personal preference.

    2. universal thread midi dress

I love this dress. It’s soft, it’s flattering and it can be dressed up or down. It comes in camo, black and several other options and is just $20.

    3. on the upward beach blue hoodie

If you still don’t own a tie-dye sweatshirt in some form, have you even lived through this pandemic? This one is $42 and I love the blue theme.

    4. hi sugarplum cavallo ruffle neck date dress

This is such a great dress for summer just in case you have anywhere to go at any point. It’s $69 and comes in several color options, including a basic black that is a perfect little black dress.

    5. vintage queen t-shirt

I love a vintage looking t-shirt to wear with my joggers or my denim cut offs during the summer. Amazon has a ton of options, but I’m really drawn to this Queen one ast the moment. It’s just $19.99 and comes in several color options.

One of these t-shirts with a kimono over it with jeans or shorts is the perfect boho outfit.

    6. oversized fashion sunglasses

I bought these a year ago and they are almost perfect dupes for the Celine glasses that are about $350. These are just $10.95 and are so sturdy.

    7. progressive clear blue light reading glasses

I’ve never worn my readers more than I have during this time because I’m always home and either reading or on my computer. I love these clear frames with progressive lenses so I can alternate between looking down at my computer and watching T.V. Plus, they are blue light so they help with eye strain.

    They are $22.99.

    8. universal thread sleeveless tank dress

I ran in Target today and nearly bought this dress, but stopped myself because I just don’t need another dress right now. This comes in several color options but this blue is so gorgeous in person and the perfect color for summer.

Best of all, it’s just $15.

    9. quay stop and stare sunglasses

I bought these sunglasses about two months ago and they are my new favorite pair. I love the retro 70s look of them and that they’re a good tint but not too dark. Plus, they are aviator-esque but a little more square which looks better on my face.

    They are $65.

    10. loft chambray square neck flounce dress

I think this is the cutest little chambray dress. I love that the straps are wide enough for a regular bra and the little flounce at the bottom. It would look cute with white sneakers or dressed up with wedge sandals.

It’s normally $80 but everything at Loft is 40% off with code TREAT at checkout.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition on the bright side

Happy Friday! I thought this would feel like a short week because we didn’t have school on Monday but it turns out that it still felt long because I’m in the midst of all manner of book release festivities and what not and I’m so happy it’s finally the weekend.

And let’s use that to make the transition for me to remind you that you only have until Monday to pre-order On the Bright Side and get all the pre-order incentives.

You can find out more about On the Bright Side here and pre-order to get a download of a talk I gave in New Hampshire in December about what life looks like when things don’t go as you planned, a discussion guide that you could use as part of a small group or on your own, and a 20% discount from Milk and Honey tees. And you also get the first three chapters immediately when you pre-order.

The other book coming out Tuesday is my very first children’s picture book and it’s called Piper and Mabel.

It includes some original haikus by Mabel and you can find out more about pre-order incentives, including coloring pages and an activity kit for Piper and Mabel here.

Thanks so much for all the love and encouragement. I hope you will love the new books.

Now for some cute things I found this week:

    1. shine on peepers reading glasses

I posted a story on Instagram and I was wearing these reading glasses because I occasionally like to look like Harry Carey and also be able to see. They are $24.45 and come in several great color options.

    via GIPHY

    2. miranda peasant blouse

I love this blouse in all its many variations and color patterns. This is a new one for spring and it’s normally $128 but they have 25% off tops at Anthropologie for a limited time so it’s $96.

    3. steve madden rubie silver glitter sneakers

Steve Madden messaged me on Instagram last week and offered to send me some shoes for spring. I chose these and got them on Monday. I cannot stress how darling they are and so comfortable. They are $102.95 which I realize is a little pricey but look at the glitter!

    4. sydney lace blouse

I love this top. It’s so pretty and would look great with everything from cut off shorts to being dressed up with a skirt or pants. It’s $98 but Anthropologie has 25% off tops for a limited time so it’s on sale for $73.50.

    5. cecily ruffled maxi dress

I think this dress is so pretty if you have some occasions coming up this spring or summer. It’s $148.

    6. h&m airy shirt dress

This is just a great basic dress that you could wear with boots or booties now and then sandals or sneakers later. It’s $34.99.

It also comes in olive green and dark yellow

    7. embroidered tiered maxi dress

I’ll be patiently waiting for this dress to go on sale. I love it so much. It’s $168.

    8. ae oxford button up shirt

I have a hard time resisting a simple white oxford shirt. You can wear it with shorts or tied up with a long, pretty skirt. It’s $44.95.

It also comes in light blue and black.

    9. ae long sleeve babydoll top

This is a great basic but with a little length. But you could also do a front tuck if you want. It’s $44.95.

It also comes in black, blush and olive.

    10. aerie sunday soft quarter zip sweatshirt

This is the softest, easiest sweatshirt to throw on over workout wear or just to wear with leggings or sweats or even shorts. It’s on sale for $37.46 and comes in several color options and a faded camo.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition happy valentines day

That’s right. It’s Valentines Day. We have zero plans to celebrate other than having friends over for dinner and that’s because it’s Friday night and not because it’s Valentines Day.

I may also eat some chocolate. And maybe buy myself the earrings that show up later in this post.

Here are some things I found this week with the disclaimer that there just isn’t much out there because we are in between seasons and it’s a weird time to shop.

    1. natural sights overalls

I really like these and they come in several color options. They are a more feminine overall version and would look so cute with a tank or tee and sneakers or sandals. A perfect outfit to just run around in. They are $128 so I love them but will be waiting for a sale.

    2. joylab cozy jogger pants

I saw these at Target the other day and they are a great jogger option. I wear a small. They remind me of very similar ones at Lululemon except these are just $34.99.

    3. j.crew d-frame sunglasses

These are really cute sunglasses and on sale for $17.50.

    4. classic trench coat

You can’t beat a classic trench coat and this one is a great deal for $98.50.

    5. sky is the limit sandals

Love these sandals for summer. They come in several color options and are $26.

    6. tie-dye knit drawstring sweater

Tie dye is a huge trend right now and this is really cute and appears to be soft and long enough to wear with leggings. It’s $49.97 It also comes in pink

    7. reece gold hoop earrings

These are my favorite earrings I’ve seen in forever. I think they are perfect for spring and summer and the perfect pop of color to any outfit. They are $68.

    8. bp octagonal sunglasses

The BP brand at Nordstrom has an abundance of inexpensive, stylish sunglasses right now. These are just $19. I love a pair of sunglasses that don’t cause me stress.

    9. daily ritual terry cotton sweatshirt

Anyone else remember the SNL skit with Adam Sandler when he sings the Red Hooded Sweatshirt song? This is like that. I enjoy a hooded sweatshirt. This comes in several color options and is around $16 depending on color and size.

    10. adidas ultraboost running shoes

I bought a pair of these Ultraboost running shoes on sale after Christmas and they are my favorite workout shoes I’ve ever owned. They fit my feet perfectly and are so comfortable. I highly recommend if you’re in the market for a new pair of running shoes. They are pricey at $180 but you might be able to find last year’s version on sale.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
