  • Fashion Friday: Edition thank you for a long weekend, Christopher Columbus

The time in my life when I will get tired of Les Miles talking about Columbus Day?

    NEVER.

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend. I have big plans to watch two soccer games that I hope we will win. And I also plan to watch the Aggies play Alabama. I hope we win that one as well, but I’m less optimistic about it. But any team can beat any team on any given Saturday. That’s why they play.

Anyway, here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. universal thread plaid long sleeve shirt dress

If you haven’t walked through the clothing section at Target lately, then you are missing out. I feel like they are killing it this fall with all the cute things.

I especially loved this long plaid shirt dress. It would be cute buttoned up and worn with booties or you could wear it open like a duster over jeans and a t-shirt.

It’s $27.99. It also comes in a navy plaid that, honestly, looks more like a black plaid to me in person but the website is calling it navy.

    2. old navy sweater knit mock neck tunic sweatshirt

I ran in Old Navy this week specifically to see this sweatshirt in person. It is unbelievably soft and the perfect length to wear with leggings.

It’s $39.99 but I think it’s currently 30%. And if it’s not today, then it will be soon. It also comes in gray, black, olive, brown and lilac.

    3. paloma hoop earrings

I love a turquoise accessory and these earrings are no exception. They are $29.95 plus an extra 40% off because everything on sale at Anthropologie is an additional 40% off right now.

    4. old navy loose fit french terry crew neck tunic

This is another great Old Navy sweatshirt. It’s the perfect weight, soft and long enough to wear with leggings

It’s $27.00. It also comes in maroon, olive, lilac and black.

    5. prettygarden long cardigan

This popped up on the bottom of my Amazon page because apparently Amazon is my new best friend and knows me so well.

It’s $27.99 and it also comes in several other colorways. I think it’s absolute sweater perfection.

    6. imogen sheer tunic

I tried this on in Anthropologie a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it, but I had a feeling it would go on sale. And now that day is here. The colors are much more vibrant in person and you can tie it in the front and wear it long in the back. It is sheer but would look great layered over a tank or cami.

It’s on sale for $89.95 with an additional 40% off right now.

    7. loft luxe knit cowl neck sweater

I bought a cowl neck sweater that is similar to this one last winter and it was a staple in my wardrobe because I could throw it on with leggings or dress it up with jeans and boots.

This one is on sale for $30. It also comes in charcoal, gold, olive and thistle which appears to be magenta-ish.

    8. early morning camel and navy striped cardigan

So this darling cardigan is $54 and I love it. Let me explain why in a short story.

A couple of weeks ago when I was in Anthropologie, I tried on this valerie colorblocked wool sweater coat and loved it. It’s such a great coat. However, it’s $198. So I left it in the store because it’s hard to spend money on a coat when it’s still 100 degrees in October.

All that to say, this cardigan is a similar look for substantially less dollars and that’s a win.

    9. loft plaid long knit modern blazer

Blazers a big trend for fall and winter even though they have technically always been a classic wardrobe staple. I have always loved a blazer and even had one with suede elbow patches when I was in college just like I was a stately English gentleman except I was a nineteen year old with a giant perm.

This one is $140 but currently 40% off with the code FALLFEST at checkout.

    10. old navy mid-rise super skinny jeans

I have been wanting a pair of really light washed skinny jeans but knew I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on them. This is what I do when I want to try something. I buy an inexpensive starter version to determine if it’s something I want to spend more money on at some point.

So when I saw these in Old Navy on sale for $15, I figured they were worth a try. And they are so soft and comfortable and feel much better than a $15 pair of jeans would suggest. The moral of the story is sometimes the less expensive version is good enough.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it’s still hot. Thank you and goodbye.

Yesterday I went to Round Top, Texas with my friend Kim and we spent the day walking around looking at antiques and jewelry and rugs and had the best time. I ate a hummus sandwich on the front lawn of the Junk Gypsy’s place while listening to live music and had a large iced coffee that will be the reason I’m up until 3:00 a.m.

But here’s the bottom line: IT WAS SO HOT.

There’s an “alleged” cool front that’s coming in Monday and if it doesn’t happen then you may never hear from me again. It’s been great knowing you all and thank you for reading.

Here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. all this time pink multi sweater

See? This sweater is why we need cold weather. I need these bright stripes in my life. It’s just $39 and I love the length.

    2. colorfulkoala leggings

I ordered these leggings last week because I’d been wanting some gray camo leggings and didn’t want to spend $100 on the Spanx version. These are $29.99 and feel like butter. They suck you in without being constricting and that’s a win in my book.

I ordered the small for size reference and I’m normally a 4-6 in pants.

    3. aerie oversized coziest desert sweatshirt

I love this version of the desert sweatshirt that’s fuzzy on the outside. It would look great with the dark gray camo leggings up above and it’s on sale for $34.96. It also comes in a ton of color options if you prefer a color.

    4. adidas swift run sneakers

Look. Did I just put a whole athleisure outfit for you? Yes I did. These sneakers are my favorite and they would be perfect with the dark gray camo leggings and the black desert sweatshirt up above. They are $89.95 and look so cute with all manner of outfits. They also come in a pink with maroon stripes if you need that option.

    5. dunne faux leather tote

I love this tote and the fringe detail gives it a little something extra. It’s $79.95 which is a great price point for a good tote. It also comes in black.

    6. knitted open front cardigan

Well while we are all trying to unplug fall and reboot it and see if it comes on, this knitted lightweight cardigan is a good option. You can throw it on over a tank or tee for a light layer and look reasonably seasonable. It’s $25.99 and comes in a bunch of color options.

    7. square hoop earrings

I bought these at Forever 21 a while back and wear them all the time. They were a splurge at $3.99 but I believe it paying top dollar for accessories.

I also really like these star hoop earrings for $5.99.

And these rhinestone duster earrings are pretty for just $5.99.

The bottom line is Forever 21 is a great option for trendy, inexpensive accessories.

    8. blanknyc moto jacket with removeable hood

I bought this jacket last year and it was one of my favorite purchases. It’s one of the reasons I need it to cool off outside because I love it. You can remove the hood for a dressier look or leave the hood on and wear it more casually. It’s $98.

    9. traveling out west navy multicolored poncho

This just looks like fall to me. I love the colors and I think it will look so cute with boots and jeans. It’s $32.

    10. carter camo sweater

Shop Talulah is one of my new favorite places to find things online. This camo sweater is $44 and could be dressed up or down.

I’ve also learned a trick to make shorter sweaters or sweatshirts work with leggings. You can layer them over a longer t-shirt like this daily ritual longline t-shirt. It gives you length without bulk and looks cute, too.

The t-shirt comes in several color options and is $17.37.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the heat goes on forever and I need the summer party to end

    Listen.

I can’t even pretend about this heat anymore. Not that I’ve really been pretending that well.

But I’ve had it. I could barely even muster the strength to do Fashion Friday today because I have ceased to care about clothing until it gets cool enough that I can wear something besides everything I’ve been wearing for the last four months.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Anyway, here are some cute things I found that you might like if you are anywhere in the world where there is a cool breeze. I want to go to there.

    1. allie + bess bracelets

The girls at Allie + Bess sent me some bracelets about a week ago and I have worn some version of them almost every day since. Or at least I’ve worn them on days when I’ve actually left the house and needed to look presentable. They are so cute and well-made and I love how you can mix and match all the different colors and styles.

You can follow them on Instagram here and order by emailing [email protected].

    2. chuck taylor all star shoreline converse

I still love my shoreline converse and wear them all the time. They are the perfect shoe to slip on with everything from shorts to jeans to dresses. They are on sale at DSW for $49.99.

They also come in gray, navy, black, and red. You can see all the options here.

    3. sol angeles star foil tee

I love this star tee as an option by itself or worn under a black blazer or denim jacket. The stars give it that little something extra. It’s $39.95 plus an extra 20% off all sale at Anthropologie right now and they’ve added tons of new stuff to their sale items.

    4. amber tiered tunic

I think this is so pretty and would be perfect with tall boots. It’s $140 and also comes in two patterns but I adore this green. I’m always drawn to green and I’m not even sure why.

    5. aerie oversized long sleeve boyfriend t-shirt

American Eagle has a ton of things on sale right now so it’s a great time to stock up on sweatshirts, joggers, etc. but I really like these oversized long sleeve tees. They are $24.46 and come in several different colors with different things on them.

    6. a new day pullover poncho

This is a great basic from Target. It’s $24.99 and also comes in pink, burgundy and camel. It’s fairly lightweight so maybe I’ll actually be able to wear it sometime before January.

    7. chunky knit cardigan

I love a chunky knit and this cardigan is a great deal for just $33.99 It comes in a ton of color options. I will tell you that you need to order a size or two up if you want this oversized look.

    8. nike air zoom pegasus

I’m a fan of the Nike air zoom pegasus shoes and this super hot pink is so cute. They are 40% off and on sale for $70 right now.

    9. j.crew leopard drapey blouse

I realize we are all in the midst of a leopard binge and will probably OD and leopard will be dead to us for, lo, many a year after this. But a trend is a trend and this top is a good one. It’s on sale for $52.50 and I like that you could dress it up for the office or just wear it with jeans for a more casual look.

    10. gabby multi stripe cardigan

Sophie alerted me to the existence of this cardigan last week and I haven’t quit thinking about it. I love the colors. I love the stripes. I love the length. It’s $98.

And so that’s it for today.

Hope you have a good Friday.

But, most of all, I hope that maybe a cool front will be here by this time next week and the temps will plummet into the low 90s.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition I’m glad it’s the weekend

We’ve got huge thunderstorms moving through here on Thursday night as I write this so it’s going to be quick because we’ve already lost power and, thus the internet, twice already. It’s like we are pioneers.

Here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. free people penny pull on flare jeans

I wore these last weekend when I was in Amarillo for the Amarillo Angels event and was reminded of all the reasons they are my favorite. They are so dang comfortable and flares make your legs look so much longer than they really are, especially with a good pair of heels.

These are $78 which is a great price for a good pair of flare jeans. They come in several color options and there is free shipping and free returns on all Free People denim so you can try them for yourself with little to no risk. If you’re between sizes, I’d size down one.

    2. emmy microsuede western bootie

I love these little booties from Target with some Western flair. That notched v in the front makes them so much more flattering than booties that just go straight across and the heel is the perfect height. They are $37.99.

    3. angelika top

Leopard print is everywhere. So is snakeskin print. But I can’t do a snakeskin so I will just fully embrace the leopard. This top is darling and it’s $42.

    4. serafina top

Speaking of darling tops, I love this one. It’s $128 and it also comes in a cream color.

It’s actually on sale at Macy’s and you can find it here. There is a bunch of Free People stuff included in the Macy’s sale so definitely take a look if you’re a Free People fan.

    5. mark nason debbie sneakers

These sneakers have great reviews and I think they are so cute, especially for just running around town. They are $72.99 and also come in navy, black and blush. And this same brand has a leopard print that I find intriguing but figured maybe y’all have had enough of the leopard for now.

    6. balloon sleeve cardigan

This is a great neutral cardigan with a great balloon sleeve to give it a little something extra. It’s $45.

    7. i’ve got one wish colorblock cardigan

I love the colorblock pattern on this cardigan. It’s perfect for fall and is $64.

    8. miranda peasant blouse

Anthropologie had a blouse like this a couple of years ago and I debated ordering it and then it sold out. Now it’s back and I still love it so much. It comes in three different color variations and I find them equally cute. It’s $128.

    9. a new day sweater dress

I saw this sweater dress in Target the other day and it’s the perfect sweater dress. It’s not too heavy or bulky. It has a v-neck which is universally flattering on everyone and it’s just $29.99. It comes in black, burgundy, olive and brown. It would look great with everything from tall boots to booties to sneakers. And would be perfection with a denim jacket over it.

    10. leopard print pleated skirt

I know. It’s more leopard print. But I love seeing the pleated patterned skirts paired with a cute graphic tee and sneakers. This one is just $17.99 and has good reviews. I’ve found that the key to ordering stuff from SheIn is that you have to read the reviews before you buy just to make sure the sizing, quality, etc. is good.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition Amarillo by morning

As of 2:00 today I’ll be in Amarillo for an event to benefit Amarillo Angels which is an organization that supports foster care. It’ll be a combination of the Big Boo Podcast live and the Popcast with Knox and Jamie. All that to say, it probably won’t be very fun at all and we’ll hardly laugh even a little bit.

So, I still need to pack and shower and find all the travel size toiletries that I haven’t used since after I finished my last speaking event last spring and therefore this will be brief.

Here are some cute things I found this week even though it’s still way too hot for me to care what I look like at least 98% of the time.

    1. ines peasant blouse

This is a really cute top and it’s on sale for $49.95 but with an extra 40% off sale items. It comes in two other colors and I saw it in person at Anthro. The neckline is low so it will definitely need something under it, but it is very, very cute.

    2. designed to align navy multi-stripe sweater

I love a cute sweater and this one fits the bill. It would be cute with a pair of joggers or equally cute dressed up with black skinny jeans. It’s $48.

    3. gillian printed kimono

This kimono is great because you could wear it now and then layer it over all black when the weather cools off. I love the pop of fuschia. It’s on sale for $79.95 but an extra 40% off.

    4. mock neck tunic shell

This is a great basic layering piece. I love that it’s long enough to wear over leggings and that you can use it to wear under a jacket or sweater or just wear it by itself. I mean, you need to have pants on but you could wear it by itself with pants. It’s $49.50 and it also comes in maroon

    5. leopard print ponte leggings

Speaking of leggings and pants, these are so cute and would look darling with the shell featured above and then later with an oversize black sweater. They are $59.50 but currently 40% off.

    6. the merly jacket

This is still my favorite purchase of last year. I wear mine all the time and it’s the perfect accessory for so many outfits. It’s $148 but it’s a classic piece.

    7. coterie embroidered tunic

This is pricey at $170 and I’m hoping it will go on sale. But this blue color is too pretty to keep to myself.

    8. parvati lace top

I tried this on in Anthro yesterday and it’s much cuter in person. I love that it’s very soft and just feels like a t-shirt, yet it’s dressier than a t-shirt. It’s also a good length if you want something that hits right below your waist yet doesn’t require a tuck in. It’s $68.

    9. bp layered chain necklace

On Real Housewives of New York, Tinsley wears this layered chain necklace that I’ve always loved. And I’m betting hers is out of my price range. But this one is $39 and it also comes in silver.

    10. crz yoga high waist workout leggings

This is a long story, but the short version is someone hacked into my Amazon account and they ordered some things that somehow still came to my address because I guess they were smart enough to hack into my account but not smart enough to change the shipping address. I don’t know. But they sent me a pair of these leggings and I kept them because it felt like it was meant to be. They are so buttery soft and comfortable and come in a ton of color options. They are $24-$26.

P.S. I sent the other stuff back after a whole lot of hassle and trying to figure things out and nothing else was as good as these leggings.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition BTHO Clemson

Current mood as I wait for the 2:30 kickoff to the A&M vs. Clemson game on Saturday.

    via GIPHY

Although in full disclosure, Caroline has a soccer game at 1:00 so I’m going to have the set the DVR and start the game late and avoid all social media until I’m caught up.

I just know that I’m ready for the weekend. This week brought a case of food poisoning, credit card fraud and two dead car batteries. It wasn’t my favorite.

But here are some cute things I found:

    1. feels for fall grey striped sweater

I realize it’s hard to think about sweaters right now, but we will all be so happy to have this cute oversized stripe sweater on that glorious day in November…okay, December…when the weather finally cools off enough to wear it. It’s $46.

    2. spanx camo print leggings

I love these camo print leggings and you know nothing sucks you in like some Spanx. These are $68 and also come in black and leopard print.

    3. noreen waterproof knee high boot

A waterproof boot that actually looks nice is a revelation for your shoe wardrobe. I bought a pair last year and wore them even more than I thought I would. These are 40% off and on sale for $143.96 They also come in black. Reviews say to size up a half size.

    4. back from the mountains fiesta red midi dress

This midi dress is so cute and the color is perfect for fall. You could wear this with booties and have the perfect fall outfit. It’s $68.

    5. aerie spring street hoodie

I’m addicted to Aerie sweatshirts because they are inexpensive and so dang soft. This one is oversize and on sale for $35. It’s long enough for leggings and comes in several color options.

    6. aerie chenille turtleneck

I bought one of these chenille turtlenecks last year and wore the heck out of it. It’s so soft, long enough for leggings and on sale for $41.96.

    7. message received tiered top

This is a great top for fall to wear with leggings or skinny jeans. It’s $46 and comes in several color options including burnt orange for my Longhorn sisters.

    8. a new day colorblock cardigan

This is so similar to a Madewell cardigan but significantly less expensive. It’s $27.99 and also comes in a navy stripe and some solid color options.

    9. avalyn microsuede laser cut bootie

I saw these booties at Target the other day and tried them on to see if they were comfortable. Good news! They are super comfortable and a perfect neutral for all your fall and winter outfits. They are $37.99.

    10. fashion classification wine top

When I saw this online I really liked it and figured after the week I’ve had that I could use a wine top. Then I realized that “wine top” referred to the color. So, whatever, I could use a wine “wine top” especially because wine is also known as Aggie maroon. This is $40 and it also comes in emerald green and black but you could still call it your wine top if you wanted to.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

I apologize in advance if I post anything obnoxious and/or dramatic on Twitter during the A&M game. Except not really.
