  • Fashion Friday: Edition as I sit in Starbucks between soccer games

I woke up at the crack of dawn on Thursday morning because Caroline had to be at school at 5:50 a.m. to catch a bus for school soccer. For those of you unfamiliar (myself included) this means it was still dark outside. Even Piper and Mabel were looking at us like “Why are we up in the middle of the night?”

P dropped her off and then I poured an extra strength cup of coffee before I finally managed to be coherent enough to get dressed and make my way to San Marcos to watch her play in an 8:00 a.m. game. And now I’m sitting in a Starbucks right by the outlet malls because I promised myself I’d get some work done before I let myself shop. So basically I’m online shopping before I do some real life shopping. That’s a good day. Even if it did start at 5:15 in the morning.

Here are some cute things I found this week.

    1. make it fair pink dust cardigan

These color block cardigans are everywhere right now and I think they are so cute. This one is $44. It also comes in an olive green option if pink isn’t your thing.

    2. greatest embrace sweater

I love a long sweater and the red version of this one is so vibrant and pretty. It’s $44. It also comes in olive, black, cream and blush.

    3. not my fault black jumpsuit

I bought a jumpsuit last year and I wore it all the time. I like this one because it’s a more casual version of the one I already have and just looks so cute and comfortable. It also appears easy to dress up or down depending on your fashion needs. It’s $52.

    4. oversized fashion sunglasses

So a fashion blogger that I follow on Instagram posted a picture of herself in these sunglasses that I loved. They were the Celine Tilda sunglasses that run about $350-$400, which is decidedly outside my sunglass budget because I have a tendency to lose and/or sit on them.

But then I did a little internet digging and found these almost exact replicas for just $10.95 on Amazon. This is exactly within my sunglass budget and I couldn’t be happier about it.

    5. kut from the kloth wide cuff boyfriend jeans

I’ve been looking at boyfriend jean options because I really love that look, especially looking forward to spring when you can just throw on cute jeans with a t-shirt and sneakers. This pair has a great wide cuff and the perfect amount of distressing, plus I’ve always had good luck with the Kut from the Kloth brand. These are $89.

    6. bp cozy leggings

I know I keep featuring these leggings disguised as joggers (or are they joggers disguised as leggings?) but they are so dang comfortable and I love them so much. These are 40% off and just $23.40.

    7. tretorn sneakers

If you’re in the market for a comfortable but cute pair of sneakers, here’s a chance to return to the Tretorns of your youth. I think they are the perfect sneaker for just running around. They are $69.95 and come in a few different color options.

    8. old navy compression leggings

I haven’t tried these yet, but I keep hearing great things about Old Navy’s compression leggings and they do have great reviews. They are on sale for $22 and come in other patterns and colors if this is a little too much for your taste.

    9. old navy lightweight performance pullover hoodie

This is the perfect lightweight hoodie to wear with leggings and/or joggers disguised as leggings. It comes in tons of colors, it’s only $12, and I like to order the tall size because then the length is longer. You usually can’t get the tall in stores, but you can usually find it online.

    10. oh dear white acrylic earrings

These acrylic earrings are everywhere right now and I really like this white version. Sometimes earrings can get lost in my dark hair, but white really stands out. These would be great year round and are $18.

    11. miranda top

I’ve seen different variations of this top, but I think this color and pattern combo is my favorite. It’s $38.

    12. knit duster

It’s hard to beat a knit duster. It’s easy to throw on with jeans and a t-shirt or over a dress. You can wear it to grocery shop or to the office. This one is $64.50 but is 50% off right now and available online only. It also comes in light gray.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition Welcome to 2019

Well. Here we are in 2019. It’s not quite the way I thought it would look based on watching The Jetsons when I was younger, but I can get groceries delivered right to my door so there’s that.

I hope you’ve all had a good first three days of 2019. Ours has involved a lot of Netflix, a 1000 piece puzzle and sweatpants. I’ll miss you, Christmas vacation, you’ve been good to us.

Here are some cute things I found this week:

    1. free people love valley hi/lo long sleeve top

This cute top is on sale for $28.80 and it also comes in black. I like that the sleeves are a little more fitted and believe it will be a great basic for either layering under a sweater or jacket or just wearing by itself.

It also comes in canary, lilac and olive green on the Free People website here, but it’s $48 there.

    2. cozy ribbed turtleneck sweater

Speaking of basics, this is the perfect sweater for your wardrobe. You can wear it by itself and dressed up or down. It’s $89.50 but 40% off with the code REFRESH at checkout. It also comes in navy.

    3. whitby turtleneck

I was working on this post late Wednesday night and saw this sweater on Anthropologie and loved it immediately but lamented that it wasn’t on sale. And then, lo and behold, all of a sudden it was late enough that it was now Thursday and Anthro added a bunch of stuff to their sale items, including this sweater. It was like magic.

It’s on sale for $79.95 plus an extra 40% off. It also comes in mint or rose and I think it’s gorgeous. Someone described it as a peasant top in sweater form and that is basically everything I’ve ever wanted.

    4. graphic scarf

This scarf is so cute and I love the bright color. It’s $49.95 but 40% off all sale at Anthropologie with no code needed at checkout

    5. ae plush jegging dress

I believe this is more of a tunic than a dress, but it looks so cozy and comfortable and perfect for just lounging or wearing around. It’s on sale for just $23.97 and it also comes in caramel or gray. The reviews say it runs large so keep that in mind.

    6. ag the abbey sateen mid-rise skinny ankle jeans

My AG jeans are my favorite because they fit so well and never stretch out at the knees. These are on sale for $99.95 plus an extra 40% off and I love the wine color because it can serve as a neutral and goes with a lot of things.

They also come in olive green here, which is another good neutral color.

    7. lou & grey striped ribbed tunic sweater

I realize this model isn’t facing forward but this was the picture that had the best view of this sweater. I love that pop of red at the bottom. It’s $54.99 but is an extra 50% off.

    8. patagonia better sweater 1/4 zip fleece

It has been cold here all week and I’ve been living in my Patagonia. It’s so warm and looks cute with jeans and boots or leggings and tennis shoes. It’s $99 and comes in a ton of color options.

    9. madewell multi-stripe scarf

on sale for $44.99 but 40% off GOBIG

    10. free people sunny skinny sweatpants

I’ve been waiting for these to go on sale and that day is here. These are 15% off and on sale for $39.99 They come in a bunch of color options and have great reviews.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition this doubles as a Christmas recap

    Well.

I hope you all had a delightful Christmas and that Santa brought you some things you wanted and/or you got gift cards to go buy those things for yourself. We had a good one at our house and I decided I should probably go ahead and recap it for posterity’s sake before it’s 2019. Also, if I don’t document it, I may forget everything as soon as I come down from the carb/sugar/wine/cheese high that I am currently on.

Although to be honest, it feels more like a low than a high. I knew our nutritional judgement had become sketchy at best this morning when I told Caroline she needed to eat something nutritious for breakfast before soccer practice and she came back to the couch with a box of chocolate Pop-tarts. Perhaps Santa should have brought us all a juice cleanse and a nutritional plan.

(Feel free to skip this recap and just scroll down to the fashion portion of this post.)

Caroline officially got out of school last Friday but she was really finished on Wednesday after she took her last two finals since she’d exempted her other ones. On Thursday night we went down to the San Antonio Riverwalk with Mimi and Bops and my sister and her kids to eat Mexican food and see the lights. We’ve done this every year since they were little and I’m just glad everyone is at the age where we can eat at a real restaurant and not go to the Rainforest Cafe.

We had a great time and Bops even let us order two tableside guacamoles even though he’d “taken a bath in the stock market” that day. His dad, my Pa-Pa, used to gather us all around each Christmas to tell us “Kids, this may be Pa-Pa’s last Christmas with y’all” and so I told my dad that maybe his own legacy will be to tell his grandkids each Christmas how much money he’s lost in the stock market. It’s like a scene out of Norman Rockwell.

On Friday night, P was hunting and Caroline and I went and watched “Elf” with some friends and then literally didn’t do one thing all day Saturday. Well, I guess I made some toffee and Chex Mix, but that was the extent of our activities.

Sunday afternoon, one of Caroline’s best friends came over to help us make cinnamon rolls. We all had a lot of fun, but I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that I am still sweeping up flour and cinnamon and sugar off my kitchen floor. Sometimes it’s hard to resist not throwing a handful of flour at your friend.

They look so cute and sweet, but looks can be deceiving.

Then Sunday night, P, Caroline and I went out for our yearly tradition of going to eat and then driving around to look at and/or judge other peoples’ Christmas lights. We went to dinner down at the Pearl Brewery area and it is seriously stunning at Christmas time plus the people watching is fantastic.

I highly recommend it if you visit San Antonio and you have to walk through the Hotel Emma. I basically would like to live there like Eloise at the Plaza. It is so gorgeous.

After dinner, we drove around while drinking hot chocolate and looked at Christmas lights while Caroline and P made fun of my Christmas music preferences. I tend to like a mellow playlist and they find most of my choices “depressing and sad”. Whatever. I like Mariah Carey as much as the next person, but I also enjoy a little Sarah Mclachlan “In the Bleak Midwinter”. I find it soothing.

On Christmas Eve, P and Caroline made the rounds to deliver cinnamon rolls to some of our friends while I finished cooking breakfast casserole for Christmas morning and wrapping the last of the presents. We went to church at 5:30 and then went to Mimi and Bops’ house to celebrate with my sister and her family.

After we got home, Caroline opened her traditional Christmas Eve gift that’s always new pajamas of some sort. This year it was a bear onesie. Here’s the link if you’re interested in owning one for yourself. Caroline says it’s super soft and comfortable, although our 70 degree temps on Christmas day made it a little hot to wear for more than a couple of hours.

We stayed up and watched Christmas movies until the early hours of the morning when I finally told her she had to go to bed so that Santa could come because Santa was exhausted. Mabel wanted to stay up and wait for Santa because she was feeling so festive, but I told her that her glasses didn’t camouflage her the way she thought they did.

She wrote a haiku about it:

    Waiting for Santa
    Maybe he’ll share a cookie
    Maybe I’ll bite him

The next morning Caroline woke up at the crack of 10:30 because that is what teenagers do. If you’re the mom of littles who had you up at 5:00 a.m., just hold on because there will come a day when you are dragging them out of bed to get up and celebrate Christmas.

We opened presents and P and Caroline bought me what is perhaps my favorite Christmas gift of all time, rivaled only by the Dooney and Bourke purse I got for the Christmas of 1987.

It’s a countertop ice machine that makes the good ice like you get at Sonic. My joy knows no bounds. Caroline said she doesn’t remember me ever being as excited about anything as I was about that ice machine. And I can’t say she’s wrong. It is truly the gift that will keep on giving. And I’m so hydrated because I drink water with that good ice in it all day long. I’ve never felt as seen and loved by my people. Some girls want diamonds, I want good ice.

P’s mom came over later on Christmas day and we opened gifts with her and then went over to Gulley’s to open presents with Gulley’s boys and Honey and Big.

And now we are just relaxing and enjoying the holiday. Caroline’s school soccer season starts with scrimmages over the weekend but, other than that, we plan to watch movies and hang out and sleep late and maybe take down our Christmas tree at some point.

Also, we saw “Mary Poppins Returns” and it is FABULOUS. We loved it.

So, thanks for getting through all that, (assuming you did) and now here are some cute things I found this week. There are tons of good sale items to be found.

I love this tote and it’s 50% off and on sale for $93.98 It also comes in a pale pink or a cabernet.

I am a sucker for thermal leggings. These are 40% off and on sale for $17.40.

    5. madewell variegated striped cape scarf

These cape scarfs are so cute and great to layer over a t-shirt or light sweater without being too heavy.

    6. dearcase long sleeve casual tunic

This is $9.99 and comes in a ton of color options. You could wear it over leggings with boots or wear it by itself depending on how tall you are. I like stuff like this because it’s super soft and comfortable and forgiving of the six pans of cinnamon rolls and three batches of Chex Mix you ate over the holidays.

    7. aerie oversized fair isle turtleneck

I love the colors in this. It’s 40% off and on sale for $35.97.

    8. aerie play pocket & cuff legging

These are my favorite find of the year. Seriously. And they sold out before I could buy more, but now they are back in stock in limited colors and sizes. But trust me when I say they are like butter. I want to buy a bunch of them in case they never make them again. They are 40% off and on sale for $29.97.

    9. zella cashmere wool wrap

This is on sale for 50% off and now $84.49. I think it’s gorgeous and perfect for wearing after a workout or just to run errands or whatever. It also comes in oatmeal.

    10. nike odyssey react running shoes

These Nikes are 25% off and come in several color options. I happen to love this color, but I also like the blush and the black with gold.

    That’s it for today.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you all a very Happy 2019!

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the last one before Christmas

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you are essentially just about out of shopping days left until Christmas. So if you still have gifts left to buy, I would suggest that you throw yourself on either the mercy of Amazon Prime or prepare yourself to face the hell that is your local mall. Also, I was in Walgreens earlier this week and they had a nice selection of “As Seen On TV” items that might suffice in a pinch.

    You’re welcome.

Here are a few cute things I found this week that could end up being a good use of any Christmas gift cards and/or cash you get in the near future.

It’s true. We are now just about ten days out from Christmas morning which is so hard to believe. So if you want to order things online (I did every bit of my shopping online this year and it was LIFE CHANGING) then you better get on that.

    2. lou & grey striped plushfuzz tunic sweater

    9. open front plaid vest

How cute is this vest? The price seems to range in that weird way Amazon prices things, but the average seems to be about $28.99 and it comes in several color and pattern options. I happen to really love this one or the black and red buffalo plaid.

    10. true grit soft nordic sherpa

When Gulley and I were in New Hampshire, we went into a store that sold these True Grit pullovers and I fell in love. They are so soft and I basically want to live in them. This one is $90, but Zappos has several color and price options depending on what you like.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition I have fallen in love with New Hampshire

It’s true. I spent this week in New Hampshire and parts of Maine and I’m a little bit in love with all of it. I’m sure I may not feel the same after months of temperatures below 15 degrees, but it was a great place to be for a few days in December. And I’m going to write an actual blog post about the last few weeks next week sometime, but life just hasn’t quit moving for about the last month.

But Fashion Friday goes on. Here are some cute things I found this week.

    1. cozy brushed fleece cardigan

This is the kind of thing I’d wear just about every day and it’s on sale for $49.95 plus an extra 30% off at checkout. It has great reviews and also comes in a blush color. It would also make a great Christmas gift.

    5. loft flutter flounce dress

This cute dress is $89.50 but 50% off with the code NEWNOW at checkout. They had a similar one earlier this fall that sold out really quickly and I’m hoping this one is just as good. Every closet needs a little black dress.

    7. merzouga kimono

    8. joules wellibob chelsea boots

Gulley and I saw these in a store while we were walking around Kennebunkport this week and I fell in love with them. They also have darling tall rainboots, but these little booties are something different and they come in several cute pattern options. They are $64.95.

    9. free people your girl tunic

This is one of my favorites and I’ve featured it before. It’s $79.95 plus free shipping on all orders at Free People. This comes in several color options but I love this green.

It’s hard to beat a Patagonia better sweater pullover. You can wear it with leggings and sneakers or jeans and boots. They are super soft and cozy and I know firsthand that they are great to have on a cold soccer morning. They come in several color options and are $99. I would size up because I like things like this to be on the roomy side.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
