  • Fashion Friday: Edition the last one of November

    Well.

It feels like it’s already December. We bought our tree last night and it’s now in our living room waiting to be decorated. But I’m thinking I’ll get the dead mums and rotted pumpkins off my porch before I put the lights on the tree. I guess now I have weekend goals.

And since we are officially in the Christmas season, I thought I’d share a couple of good gift ideas that are on sale right now.

This Barefoot dreams stripe blanket is amazingly soft and on sale for $49.97 but normally $120. It’s only left in the navy, but I’m telling you it’s like curling up on a cloud.

And I also love this Pottery Barn cozy pom pom throw that’s on sale for $31 with free shipping.

I guess it’s an indication of how tired I am these days that I am so into various throw blankets.

Another great gift option is one of the Hummingbird Farms gift boxes. They have a deal right now where the code BIGBOO16 gets you an additional $16 off any of their already value priced gift boxes or you can use the code BIGBOO37 if you’re buying two gift boxes for $16 off each box plus an additional $5 in savings for two boxes going to same address.

And here are some cute things I found this week that might make a good gift for yourself or for someone on your list:

    1. dreamers cowl neck tunic

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and it is the perfect sweater. And I met Gulley for lunch this week and she had it on and I complimented her on how much I loved her sweater without realizing it’s the same one I own. I guess I’m true to what I like. But it’s just that great and it’s on sale for $27.90.

It comes in plum, light gray, and camel. I have the camel. Gulley has the gray. And now I kind of want the gray and the plum. It’s long enough to wear with leggings which is an added bonus.

    2. topshop brush stripe ombre beanie

I’m going to be in New Hampshire next week so I’m really into the beanies right now because I will get to see what an actual winter feels like. This cute little beanie is $22 and also comes in another color striped option.

    3. asos chunky cream scarf

My current love of a chunky scarf is also related to my upcoming trip to New Hampshire. But I love this and I think I’ll also be glad to have it during all the January and February soccer games I have coming up in my life. It’s $32.

    4. the cube weekender bag

How cute is this bag from Target? I’m in love with the sporty red stripe that gives it a little something extra. It’s $39.99.

    5. morgan sweater

Speaking of good sweaters, I have one that’s similar to this in a mocha color and it’s my favorite thing to throw on for those South Texas winter days that aren’t that cold. It’s lightweight, a great length and super soft. It’s $42.

    6. old navy sleep leggings

I love a buffalo plaid and I love these Old Navy thermal sleep leggings. They aren’t quite as good as the ones Gap had last year, but they’re pretty close and make a great gift. They are $19.99 but I bet they have a sale this weekend.

    7. j.crew factory fair isle sweater

I think a Fair Isle sweater is a great classic look and I really love this white one with the red and navy. It’s on sale for $39.50.

    8. j.crew turtleneck dress in supersoft yarn

I’ve been looking for a sweater dress. Madewell had a great one but it’s totally sold out and I can’t talk about it because I’m too sad. But I like this one from J.Crew. It’s $118 but 40% off with the code SNUGGLE at checkout and comes in a couple of other colors including an alpine green that looks interesting.

    9. bp chainlink drop earrings

I really like these earrings because they’re different from anything I own, yet simple and still classic. They are $16.

    10. toms spruce plaid felt women’s classics

How cute are these plaid Toms? They are $59.95 and also come in a red and black plaid.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it’s Black Friday

This is going to be quick because Caroline and I are in Orlando and spent the day at Universal Studios seeing all things Harry Potter related. And we have soccer early Friday morning.

Here’s what I know for sure right now. A lot of people go to theme parks on Thanksgiving Day. I had no idea.

Here’s the other thing I know for sure. There are so many great sales going on right now that will help you with your Christmas shopping and/or your personal shopping goals.

Here are some of my favorites:

    1. ABLE the merly denim jacket

I have loved this denim jacket for forever, but it’s $143 and that just seemed like a lot to pay for a denim jacket when I already have a denim jacket or three. But this one has amazing reviews and it’s distressed and a little oversized.

And right now everything at ABLE is 30% plus free shipping when you spend over $49 with the code ABLE30.

I also really love this mare handle clutch .

It’s $78 plus the 30% off with the code ABLE30. True story. I wore a fanny pack at Universal yesterday and I may never carry a bag over my shoulder again. This clutch is my version of an acceptable fanny pack.

    2. express cozy chenille cover up

I love all things chenille because they are so cozy and this yellow color is divine. I’d wear it with gray jeans because I love that combination of colors. It’s $69.90 but everything at Express is 50% with free shipping right now.

It also comes in ivory, light gray and black.

    3. loft winter bouquet sweatshirt

This is the cutest sweatshirt. It’s normally $59.50 but everything at LOFT is 50% off right now with the code THANKS at checkout. And they have some great jewelry, too, just FYI.

    4. old navy mock turtleneck sweater

I love this sweater from Old Navy. It’s normally $29.99 but Old Navy has 50% off everything with no code needed at checkout. It comes in several colorways.

    5. river island roll neck sweater in stripe

I think this sweater is adorable. And it’s 25% off everything at ASOS with the code EPIC25 at checkout.

    6. old navy cozy crewneck sweater

This is a great sweater to wear alone or to layer under a puffy vest or denim jacket. It’s $36.99
but Old Navy has 50% off everything with no code needed at checkout.

    7. halogen open front pocket cardigan

These are the best lightweight, long cardigans to wear with jeans or even to the office with pants or over a dress. They are 60% off and just $28.90 and come in gray, black, purple and red.

    8. bp cozy v-neck sweater

I’ve been waiting for this to go on sale forever and now it’s just $15.60. It is so soft and comes in gray, olive, and a striped pattern.

    9. barefoot dreams cozy chic calypso wrap

This is the perfect gift for a woman in your life. I have one of these that I bought years ago and still wear it all the time. It’s 33% off and just $65.66 which I think is the best price I’ve ever seen on them.

    10. madewell zip top transport leather tote

These Madwell totes are so pretty and almost never go on sale. This is now 25% off and on sale for $141. It also comes in navy, cabernet, linen and black with brown handles.

This original transport tote is also on sale in cocoa brown.

    It’s $126.

    11. kendra scott bethany y-shaped necklace

This y-shaped necklace is such a great accessory and now 40% off and now $74.98. It comes in several color options.

    12. gibson cozy tunic

These cozy tunics are on sale for $40.20 and come in several color options. This would make a great gift because who doesn’t love a cozy tunic? They are so soft.

    13. feliz navidad t-shirt

This is my kind of Christmas shirt because it’s festive but not over the top. It’s on sale for $29.50 but everything is an extra 40% off with the code ADD2CART at checkout which makes this just $17 dollars and some cents.

    14. j.crew factory big bow midi skirt

I actually think that Feliz Navidad shirt would look really cute with this skirt if you want to take it up a notch. I also love the way they have it paired with a simple chambray shirt.

It’s $69.50 but an extra 40% off with code ADD2CART at checkout.

    15. j.crew factory ruffle front miniskirt

It’s hard for me to resist a buffalo check this time of year. I would wear this with black tights, boots or booties and just a simple black or cream turtleneck sweater.

It’s $59.50 but an extra 40% off with code ADD2CART at checkout.

    That’s it for today.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and happy Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition the one before Thanksgiving

I loved reading your comments about Mabel yesterday and have no doubt that those of you who declared you don’t “reckon Mabel’s heart will hinder her none” are my people. I laughed out loud.

For those of you who listen to the Big Boo Cast, Sophie and I recorded the first of two gift guide editions yesterday that will go up over the weekend. I’ll post that here on Monday.

As for now, here are a few cute things I found this week.

    1. free people your girl tunic

I bought this tunic in black last year from Free People because it only came in black or white, but now it’s available in lots of color options. It’s so soft and comfortable and just perfect with leggings. It’s $78 and free shipping is available for a limited time.

(Mine is an XS so just know it runs large and you want to size down)

    2. aerie oversized chenille turtleneck

This is my favorite sweater right now. I bought it in navy and have worn it so much already because it is the softest thing ever and long enough to wear with leggings. I got a medium because I wanted it to be a little big. It’s on sale for $41.96 with free shipping and it comes in lots of color options.

    3. levi’s ex-boyfriend denim trucker jacket

I believe I have mentioned my love of a denim jacket and I am especially loving these oversized versions that are in style right now. This is just a great basic. It’s $89.50 and comes in a light or dark wash.

    4. chelsea 28 turtleneck sweater

This is a great sweater for wearing by itself or a layering piece because it’s not too thick. It’s longer in the back which is always nice. It’s 40% off and on sale for $46.90 It also comes in burgundy, dark green and light gray.

    5. bp plush hooded cardigan

This looks so cozy and I actually love the white. It’s on sale for $41.40 and comes in regular and plus sizes.

    6. asos hand knitted chunky scarf

How cute is this scarf with the pom detail? I think this could be a great Christmas gift for someone. It’s $35.

    7. loft floral wrap dress

I love this floral print and it would be a fun option for the holidays. It’s $79.50 but I bet it will go on sale at some point.

    8. zella live in high waist leggings

I’ve featured these several times before but they are still my very favorite leggings. I wear them to work out and I wear them with sweater tunics and boots. They are so comfortable and I love that I can throw them in the dryer and they don’t fade or shrink. They’re $54.

    9. j.crew factory vail parka

This is the most adorable winter coat and it’s on sale for $116. It also comes in camel, green and navy.

    10. bp cowl neck sweater dress

I am really wanting a sweater dress and this one looks cute and is a great price point at $49. It also comes in red if you’re feeling extra festive.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition I’m too tired to think of a name

Listen. It’s been a long week here.

But I wanted to let you know that for whatever reason, the sam edelman camellia tall suede boots are back in stock in limited quantities in camel and black right now at Nordstrom Rack. I got mine this week and they are all I dreamed they would be. I will suggest that if you’re between sizes or not sure, I’d order a half size up.

They really are just the perfect boot in my opinion, assuming you want a suede boot with a wooden heel. Otherwise, maybe another is better for you.

Here are some other things I found this week:

    1. judy henley top

I think this is the cutest top and it’s on sale for $39.95 plus an extra 25% off. It also comes in black.

    2. always forever velvet minidress

Clearly I would wear this with leggings and not as a minidress, but I think it would be so cute for the holidays. It’s $128 and also comes in black.

    3. bp knit funnel neck tunic

I love the length of this sweater because you could wear it with leggings. It’s $49 and also comes in olive.

    4. halogen sequin pencil skirt

This sequin skirt also comes in black and has great reviews that say how flattering it is. It’s $89 and would be so cute for Christmas and New Year’s festivities. Of course most of my Christmas plans can be done while I’m in my pajamas but maybe your life is fancier than mine.

    5. j.crew merino wool turtleneck

This turtleneck would be great with the sequin skirt above. Or really with anything. It’s $44.50 plus 30% off with the code 2DAYSONLY. It comes in lots of color options.

    6. madewell colorblock sweater dress

I love a sweater dress and I really love the color-blocking on this one. It would look great with those Sam Edelman boots.

    7. bp balloon sleeve sweater

I love the balloon sleeves on this sweater and it’s a great length if you want something that isn’t a tunic, yet isn’t a cropped sweater. It’s $49. It comes in black, blue, magenta and red.

    8. the ikat elephant runaround camo tunic in gray

I have several of these runaround tunics and I live in them. They are super soft, long enough to wear with leggings and the perfect weight. This is the camo version and it’s $34.

Ikat Elephant is offering 10% off your total purchase through Monday when you use the code BIGMAMA10 at checkout.

I also love this alexis tied sweater dress.

    It’s $40.

And this fall feathers tunic is really cute.

It’s $35.50 and ships after Thanksgiving.

    9. ae ribbed boyfriend cardigan

I bought a cardigan similar to this one a while back and I adore it. It’s so soft and easy to throw on over a t-shirt or a tank with jeans. The length is perfect. It’s$49.95 and also comes in mustard and charcoal.

    10. loft pull through oval hoop earrings

I had a pair of earrings like these that I loved but I lost one. And I’d be sad about it but they were only $8.00. These are $24.50 but 40% off with the code WORKIT at checkout and they also come in silver. They would make a great Christmas gift for someone, too.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition it’s November!

I feel like I blinked and October was over. And now that we are past Halloween, you know that it’s time to turn our thoughts toward the upcoming holiday season. I am a purist and fully embrace Thanksgiving and all that November brings before I focus on Christmas. I like to take my months one at a time.

But I did want to tell you about one thing I’ll be doing for sure in the next few days to make my holiday season both easier and more festive. I’ll be ordering some personalized items from Two Funny Girls.

Look at some of their cute options for Thanksgiving. I’ve decided that personalized paper plates and styrofoam cups are the new crystal and china. Plus, think of all the time you’ll save not washing dishes.

I get more joy than I should out of leaving my house with a paper coffee cup with a lid and cute seasonal coffee sleeve. I blame Starbucks for this.

You can find all those and more here.

And for those of you already thinking ahead to Christmas, look at some of these cute things.

And who wouldn’t want to drive around and look at Christmas lights with one of these cups filled with hot chocolate?

You can find everything from personalized plates to cups to napkins for Christmas here.

And there are a ton of pre-packaged plastic Christmas cups, styros and coffee cups here.

I happen to think they make a great hostess gift if you’re going to a Thanksgiving or Christmas get together. In fact, I just thought about how excited I get over some cute seasonal styrofoam cups or coffee sleeves and have just realized it’s my love language. Give me cups or a new pair of pajamas and it’s really all I want out of life.

I am a simple girl with simple taste. As long as it’s in a cute cup.

This isn’t an ad or anything, just honestly sharing something that makes me happy.

Now for the cute things I found this week:

    1. hermosa sweater coat

This is at Anthropologie and it’s a little pricey at $138 but I think it’s one of those pieces you’d wear over and over again. I have something similar that I bought years ago and I still wear it every winter.

    2. oversized thermal button-front top

These tops are $44 but currently 25% off and come in several color options. They are so soft and are great for wearing alone or as a layer. I also like that you can tie them up or wear them loose depending on your preference.

    3. bobby boyfriend striped sweater

I think this striped sweater is darling. It’s $69 and comes in a few other colorways. I kind of like them all, but maybe like this one the best? I don’t know. I can’t decide. I just know this is perfect with jeans and sneakers for cold Saturday morning soccer games.

    4. adidas swift run sneakers

I love these Adidas sneakers because they are retro and comfortable. They come in several color options, but I really love this pink. They are $85.

    5. treasure and bond menswear blazer

If I have learned one things from following Meghan and Harry while they were on their Royal Tour of Australia, it’s that a menswear blazer is something I need in my life. She and Duchess Kate have both worn one in the last week and every time I see the pictures, I swoon a little. It’s an easy way to dress up a pair of jeans, yet you can also wear it to the office.

    This one is $89.

    6. commando perfect control faux leather leggings

My friend Heather posted about these leggings this week and I’m intrigued. Apparently they feel much more like leather than the Spanx version and the price is the same at $98.

I also like these commando control top velvet leggings because nothing says holiday season to me like something velvet. And also cute personalized cups apparently.

    7. loft criss cross wrap dress

This dress has great reviews online and I love that it’s a good basic to have in your closet, yet can be dressed up or down depending on your fashion needs. Pair it with a leather jacket and boots and you’ve got a fun outfit for a night out. Wear it with a menswear blazer and heels and you’ve got something for the office. Throw on a denim jacket and Converse and you can go run errands all day.

It’s $69.50 but 40% off right now and is sold online only.

    8. st. jubileens hoodie sweatshirt

I saw a sweatshirt like this somewhere but it seemed like too much to pay for a hoodie sweatshirt. But then I found this one on Amazon for $27.99 and it comes in several color options. It has great reviews and I think it’s a great casual basic with a little flair to it.

    Quit talking about my flair.

    9. chelsea mock neck tunic

I posted this last week but now have gotten mine in and I love it. It’s lightweight but warm and a great length to wear with leggings if I want. It’s $78 and also comes in black, camel and a gorgeous blue.

    10. glen plaid jumpsuit

I was looking around on the Nordstrom website and saw this picture and thought those were the cutest pants, but then realized I’m never great at figuring out what kind of top to wear with pants like that and it just gets complicated. Then I realized this is a jumpsuit. They have done the top work for you and I think this is just perfect. You could easily wear a sweater or jacket with it now and then wear it as is during warmer weather. It’s $149.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.

  • Fashion Friday: Edition you won’t even believe what is back in stock

I don’t know that I’ve ever loved the internet more than I did yesterday when I had no less than twenty people message me on Instagram to let me know that they noticed that Nordstrom Rack had the Sam Edelman Camellia boots in stock. If you’re new here or don’t listen to the podcast, then maybe you don’t know that I have spent the better part of a year lamenting the fact that I didn’t buy these boots before they sold out. I had such deep regrets.

And so I searched high and low. I searched on Poshmark. I searched on Ebay. I debated emailing various fashion bloggers who owned the boots to see if they might be interested in selling them. And, finally, I gave up.

But the lesson here, kids, is never give up on your dreams. Because I have now ordered the Sam Edelman Camellia boots for myself and they are 35% off the original price. Dreams still come true. And apparently sometimes procrastination pays off.

Here are the boots along with other cute things I found this week.

    1. sam edelman camellia tall suede boots

These are the boots. There are similar versions out there, but none that also have this wooden heel which I believe is the key to their success. They are 35% and $129.97. They also come in black.

And sizes are already selling out and that’s an indicator of how fabulous they are. It hasn’t even occurred to me that they might not fit or be comfortable. I’m believing they are the boot of my dreams.

    2. chelsea28 mock neck tunic

I’m showing this tunic in this blue color because I think it’s gorgeous. It would look great with black leggings or pants or even with white skinny jeans and perhaps some tall camel colored boots like the ones above. It’s $79.

I love the length, the side slits and it appears to be very soft. It also comes in a camel color which is such a great neutral and, also, would look great with the boots. I will henceforth plan my entire winter wardrobe around those boots.

    3. paisley belted dress

I saw this dress in person at Anthropologie this week and it’s even better in person. It’s a heavier fabric that will drape beautifully and not wrinkle or pull. It would be great for the office or even for a holiday party. It’s $148.

Also, it would look great with the Sam Edelman Camellia boots.

    4. bp dolman sleeve ribbed top

This top has great reviews and is just $39. It also comes in ivory, navy and rust (although the rust is almost sold out)

    5. caslon cowl neck sweater poncho

I featured this a few weeks ago because I love a good transitional poncho that can be worn by itself of with a long sleeve top under it. And now it’s 33% off and on sale for $45.90. It comes in black, tan or gray

    6. sole society stripe ruana

How cute is this? It would be perfect for the office or worn casually with jeans. It’s $69.95 but I’m pretty sure you can get a discount if you sign up for Sole Society emails.

(This is me thinking how great it would look with those Sam Edelman Camellia boots.)

    7. sole society navajo chunky cardigan vest

    I really like this. It’s $64.95.

    8. j.crew western chambray shirt in vintage indigo

I bought this denim shirt a few weeks ago when it was on sale and I’ve worn it an embarrassing number of times since I got it. I have tried for years to find the perfect denim shirt, but they always were either too short or too tight or too big through the shoulders or the denim was weird. Not this one. It’s perfection.

    via GIPHY

I’m normally a 4-6 in tops and I bought this in a 6. It’s $88 but 30% with the code CHILL at checkout.

    9. j.crew tie neck button up shirt in leopard

Does something about this remind me of the blouses my grandmother wore in the 1980s when she was an important real estate saleslady? Yes. Do I still kind of like it anyway? Yes. Leopard is so in right now and I think this is a pretty cute version of it that would work great dressed up or down.

It’s $85 but 30% off with the code CHILL at checkout.

    10. sole society harbor booties

I realize not all of us want a tall boot. Or maybe you already have some tall boots. These booties are on sale for $49.98 and I love this chocolate brown color because it’s a little different from the norm. They also come in taupe. I always think Sole Society shoes look more expensive than they actually are and these are 50% off which makes them a steal.

    That’s it for today.

    Have a good Friday.
